Chapter Text
“And there he goes again! Kageyama Tobio with his flawless service ace! Maaaan, Schweiden Adlers really had a great start today. Both Ushijima Wakatoshi and Hoshiumi Kourai seemed to be doing great too, following their setter’s lead. What a combination!”
Confidently holding out the ball, Kageyama smirked. It’s been a few years since he’d entered the big leagues in Japan’s volleyball scene, and it’s been amazing. As a celebrity in the sports scene, Kageyama was quickly held up as a star setter. Taking a deep breath, he threw the ball in the air. He ran up to the ball and jumped, putting his energy onto his fingertips as he hit it across the net. The crowd went wild with cheers as the ball flew over. Kageyama ran to the front, getting ready to set the ball towards one of the wing spikers available.
“Kageyama is going up front! The wing spikers are already in position for a spike! Which one is it? Is it a left, or a right?!”
Kageyama set to the left, and the ball was slammed onto the opponent’s side of the court with a loud sound. The setter grinned, hearing the whistle signal the match’s end.
"What a fierce fight coming from the Adlers today! Once again, the rising star of the volleyball scene showed us exactly what it meant to be a professional. Now, let's head down to our reporters by the court and see what today's players think of the match—just after this ad break."
“I’m in a really good mood today.” Kageyama exhaled in bliss. He looked down at his hands, red from receiving the ball's impact but leaving a satisfying sting behind. "Ushijima-san, nice kill."
"Nice set," Ushijima replied, grabbing his towel and wiping his face. "You seem very excited today. You've been restless since morning. Is it because we're heading back to Miyagi this afternoon?"
Kageyama put down his water bottle, giving Ushijima a thin smile. "Is it that obvious?"
"As clear as day." Hoshiumi perked up from behind them. "What, you homesick?" He joked, packing up with the three. Kageyama looked up at him, raising an eyebrow. "Aren't you excited about going back to Nagano too?"
"I guess." The white-haired male shrugged, grinning. "Come on, everyone's waiting."
After the match ended, Kageyama found himself surrounded by interviewers for all sorts of sports-related content. He gave them an awkward smile, not yet used to the spotlight, unlike Ushijima and Hoshiumi. The camera flashes were so bright, that you would mistake them for the stadium lights in Tokyo’s Orange Courts.
“Don’t be so tense! Look, they’re waitin’ to talk to you!” Hoshiumi said, hitting Kageyama’s back. The setter stumbled forward from the force, the air knocked out of his lungs. Kageyama took a moment to regain his footing, straightening himself up for the cameras. “Hrk—O…Okay…” Hearing Hoshiumi's cue, the reporters started getting up close, holding up their microphones.
“Kageyama-san, congratulations on today’s win!”
“Oh… thank you very much,” Kageyama replied with a bow and a smile. “Today was a great match."
As he bowed down, the silver necklace underneath his shirt made its way outside. Kageyama proudly wore his necklace, letting it out for the world to see—a ring hanging by the thin silver chain. The setter paid no mind to it as he continued answering the reporter’s questions until one of them perked up and commented on it.
“Forgive me if this sounds intrusive but... Is that... an engagement ring?”
