Summary:

“I’ve never been out of the city before,” Izuku said quietly to Hitoshi and Shouto one night. They’re in their new apartment, sleeping on the big mattress that they had brought together until their furniture is delivered the next day.

When their boyfriend mentions that he'd like to see the stars properly, Todoroki Shouto and Shinsou Hitoshi decide to grant Midoriya Izuku's wish.

Notes:

This is for LadyElemental, who asked for "something about stars".

It's soft boy hours, folks!

Work Text:

“I’ve never been out of the city before,” Izuku said quietly to Hitoshi and Shouto one night. They’re in their new apartment, sleeping on the big mattress that they had brought together until their furniture is delivered the next day.

Neither his boyfriend says anything in response to that. In the year of their relationship, that last blissfully perfect year of UA, they learned that Izuku needed time to really share things. That sometimes he just needed to be heard, especially after going so long without.

Both Hitoshi and Shouto knew the feeling.

“I always wanted to see the stars. Properly. Light pollution in the city makes it really hard to see them, but I’ve heard in some places you can see the Milky Way. I want…I want to see the stars one day. I want to go somewhere quiet in the woods. I don’t think we got to enjoy that because of everything.”

Because of training, because of the League, because of All for One.

Hitoshi and Shouto made sure to catch each other’s eye and nod.

They’ll get Izuku to those stars.

Like many things in life, this is, of course, easier said than done.

They have started their jobs as Pro Heroes. And while their infamy of being members of Class A helps, it doesn’t stop them from the hard parts of hero work. Izuku led the way, of course he does, becoming a Symbol in his own right: of Hope, of Compassion, of Kindness. Of those things that people can so easily forget in their day-to-day lives.

But Shouto and Hitoshi are nothing if not patient.

It took a year after their debut to be able to carve out enough time for the three of them to go up to the mountains. The agency is stable. Izuku is doing insanely well in the charts while Shouto and Hitoshi have established themselves enough.

Shouto is the one who found the Airbnb in the mountains, far away from any light pollution that would ruin the view of the sky. Hitoshi was the one who went out to buy a telescope and sneak it into the car. Izuku cried when they told them of their relaxing week-long trip, just the three of them so that they could celebrate their first year as Pros.

All three of them put their phones on Do Not Disturb, and make the trip up to the mountains together. Izuku, cap pulled low, dozed on Hitoshi’s shoulder while Shouto held his hand.

They could almost all feel themselves relaxing as they went further from the city and no one recognized them outright.

The mountain home was extremely pretty, which is why Shouto booked it. After spending so long stuck inside, he loved places that had a view. He spent his childhood looking at the same four walls that he wanted pretty things to look at instead.

“Wow, Shouto,” Izuku squeezed his fingers. “This is gorgeous.”

“Not bad,” Hitoshi agreed. “I feel like a fancy man.”

He was wearing his favorite pair of old jeans with the frayed hems and the wear at the knee along with his gigantic sweatshirt that Shouto was pretty sure Hitoshi borrowed from Kirishima in their second year and never returned. He looked the opposite of a fancy man.

“Only the best for my fancy men,” he said, making Hitoshi laugh and Izuku grin.

He loved that: cataloging every smile and laugh from them. Shouto felt his heart soar when they did such things around him.

It felt like a victory every single time.

Look at this happy life that he had made with his own two hands. Look at these wonderful men in his life who he loved so hard that it made him breathless at times.

He was not a weapon or a masterpiece.

He just was.

Once night had fallen, the three of them headed outside. The turn from spring into summer was on the air, but not as close as they would have liked perhaps. It got cold enough in the evenings that hoodies were a must and Izuku hovered close to Shouto’s warm side in case of any aching joints from the growing pains of using his quirk.

Hitoshi carried the telescope, humming under his breath. He broke through the treeline first to the observation spot that the home’s owners recommended.

“Not sure if we need it.”

Hitoshi had never seen so many stars in his life. They sparkled against the black void of space, glimmering and glittering almost like gemstones or, like, a particularly sparkly geode. It’s absolutely gorgeous.

“Oh!” he heard Izuku gasp.

Hitoshi turned and smiled at the sight.

Izuku’s green eyes looked impossibly wider as he took in the sight. It was almost like seeing him as a little first year: all fluffy hair and big eyes. Hitoshi caught Shouto’s eye and smiled, his other boyfriend doing that pleased eye crinkle.

Meanwhile, Izuku reached for Hitoshi’s hand, still holding Shouto’s.

“I love you both,” he said softly, reverently. His eyes darted from the endless sea of stars in the sky to their faces. “Thank you so much for bringing me here.”

Hitoshi kissed Izuku’s temple and Shouto kissed Izuku’s wrist. Izuku kissed them both on the cheek.

And then they sat together, watching the endless stars, feeling small yet comforted within the grasp of each other.
