Naoto finished buttoning up their shirt, and gave one last look in the mirror. There was a certain shared sentiment with their partner about going out. Naoto hated bar-hopping, which was something that Rise had insisted doing that evening. Kanji entered the room, looking them up and down, and gave a sneer.
“Damn, lookin’ good as always.” He buttoned his own shirt, which was slim-fit. Naoto couldn’t help but admire their partner's physique. beneath the fabric were gorgeous muscles that they never could keep their eyes off of.
Naoto looked to the mirror again, attempting to find some sort of quality in their body. Their shirt was simple- a black cuffed shirt with little light-blue patterned arrows. Their tight-fit brown trousers complimented their flats, ones that remained gender neutral. While Naoto questioned their physique, Kanji couldn’t help but wrap his hands around their hips.
“Lookin’ amazing, Nao.” He rested his chin on top of their head, with a goofy lopsided grin. “Damn I love this shirt on ya.”
They smiled at that, their insecurities fading for the moment. Suddenly, the phone rang. It was Rise. Kanji answered, setting the phone down to the nightstand. “‘Sup?”
“Umm…. Might need to take a rain check tonight.” There was a cough. Naoto and Kanji both looked to each other, one that signaled “RELIEF!”
“I'm… I'm sick. I think I have COVID.”
Naoto clicked their tongue, “Oh, I'm sorry to hear that, Rise-san.” But behind the voice was a relieved smile. “I hope you feel better.”
“Ye~eah, Rise. Hope ya feel better!” Instantly, they both shed their clothes, going right for the first comfortable thing they could put on. She started to cough uncontrollably through the other line.
“I'm so sorry. I know you both were-” COUGH. “looking forward to it!”
“Oh~ yeah, we kinda were!” Kanji tied the ties of his joggers around his hips. “Damn, sorry you're feelin’ sick, Rise!”
“Yes, Rise-san!” Naoto cocooned themselves in one of Kanji's hoodies, and went to grab the fuzzy socks- “it's such a shame. Please work on feeling better.”
Rise sniffled through the line. “Thank you two. I knew you'd understand.” When she hung up, they both cheered, knowing they get to stay home. Naoto quickly padded down the stairs to make cocoa. Kanji grabbed the dog. They both quickly made their way into the living area, plopping onto the couch, with their white pome-shibe in Kanji's arms.
“I have ACHED to finish this show!” Naoto cheered, Quickly pulling up the one they wanted to watch on Netflix. “This last case has made it so difficult!”
“Heh. Think Rise caught on that we were happy that she canceled?”
They quickly brushed it off, forgetting about Rise's evening plans. In the end, they didn't have to go anywhere, and damn did it feel good.
