Chapter Text
“Thanks for having me. It’s… quite the place you have here, very different from Mr. du Lac's in Dubai.”
You stared at the old man, face remaining in a smile despite his insulting remarks. “Mr. Molloy, I do apologize– I haven’t been able to unpack. I’ve been moving from place to place rather frequently,” you explained, helping clean off the seemingly endless stacks of papers from the coffee table. “Set up your equipment wherever you want, or wherever you can. It doesn’t matter to me.”
Mr. Molloy placed his laptop on the ottoman in front of him, his hand clicking through different files and apps on the screen. You focused on his thoughts. The vampire’s mind was like a railway station with different trains coming and going at different times. This journalist held no fear for being in your presence, but he displayed intrigue. Memories from his previous vampiric interview were magnetic to you. You read the book, of course, but you still wanted to know more.
“You finished reading my mind, yet?” Mr. Molloy snarkily commented, breaking your trance. “Whatever is in my book is all I know about you. You're not going to find anything of importance in my head.”
“I apologize, Mr. Molloy. That was rather invading of me—”
“Please, call me Daniel.” Mr. Molloy cut you off. "Let's try to remain outside of each other's thoughts for the rest of this session."
“Of course, Daniel." You paused. "I was only wondering about your interview with Louis de Pointe du Lac- how was I described?” You sat at the edge of your seat.
The old man looked at his computer, setting it up to record the following session. “The sit-down was insightful, toxic, dreamy, whatever online teens would call it– and, from my experience, unreliable. As you know, Armand had been mind-fucking with Louis for quite some time.” Another click of whatever Daniel was doing on his device. “You were brought up occasionally. From my experience, you're not that popular in the vampire world.”
“What did they say about me?”
“They didn’t say much, you were an afterthought, honestly– a barely articulated jumble of syllables uttered once every other session. Louis talked about you the most, but Armand was always there to change the discussion.”
A sharp pain pierced your chest. If it were not for your post-mortem state, you would have believed that your heart had failed right then and there. Your questions began to grow more desperate. “What did Louis say?”
“Well, he didn’t talk about you much. If you read the book–”
“Daniel,” you retorted. “What. Did. Louis. Say.”
The vampire shook his head in disbelief. "I don't know what more you want from me. At the end of my book, I pointed out every single one of the inaccuracies in his story; you were one of them. I set up this interview, specifically, to get your side of the story, the missing piece of the puzzle."
"Louis sent you here, didn't he?" You crossed you legs.
Mr. Molloy sighed. "That's part of the reason, yes. It seems Armand cut you out of Louis' head." His face changed to one of sympathy. "Listen, Louis just wants his mind to be whole again."
You took a collective pause.
“Well, alright then. We'll set the story straight, once and for all."
"Right." Daniel let out an annoyed breath. “I believe we are ready to start this interview, shall we?”
You nodded your head in approval, indigo irises maintaining eye contact with the vampire a few meters before you.
“Okay, then.” The journalist clicked his laptop once more. “Monday, March 13th, 2023- 9:45 pm. I am interviewing vampire number three here in George Town, Malaysia.” He continued, stating more information such as your name and the intense state of your shitty apartment. You did not have any reasons to be mad at him, though; Daniel was an honest man, more transparent than any other vampire you had ever cared to know. “So, tell me, what was your life like before you became a blood-thirsty monster?”
