Chapter Text
I was at a camp and there was to be an audition of some sort. I chose to represent a monarch butterfly. I danced and did something with little objects in my hand, and the judges loved it.
I later was standing in front of a cave with a tunnel that dropped almost straight down, though the tunnel was filled with water. I glanced at the small spirit resembling a kwamii at my side. She was colorless, and I don't mean black or white or gray, I mean she didn't have color. We humans weren't supposed to see them, and we haven't for centuries.
"You can do it!" The spirit had already told me of my true self and about the others, and how to come to physically be so.
I dove into the pool, smiling and trusting myself as I did so. I felt as I transformed, and it felt wondrous. I was a mermaid, and though I looked like the terrifying siren of myths, I could not sing. In this form I had incredible night vision and you would not BELIEVE how fast I could swim!
I kept swimming. The ice cold water rushing around my face didn't feel ice cold, just a little chilly, though no heat was snapped from my insulated mer-body. I was already in love with the feeling.
I swam for a little longer, my spirit guiding me through the tunnels. We soon came to a water-filled cavern with a small hole a little smaller than my head. "Uhh, little one? There was NO WAY I could fit through the tunnel."
I sensed the kwamii smile. "You can do this! Wipe off that makeup! Wipe it all off! Be true! You will fit!"
I nervously grinned. I trusted my spirit familiar with my life, though I haven't known her for more than a few hours. "No makeup in this house!"
I squeezed my eyes shut and became even truer to myself. I swam through the hole. The water was filled with the magic of the Accepted as I swam through.
It felt odd, I could feel reailty bending around me. I had grown more used to the chilled water the longer I was in it, it had almost been to a point where I could call it warm, but now the water was cold again, but not temperature-wise. Cold as in I could feel the magic. The magic I called up.
The Accepted could bend reality, almost SHAPE it with enough practice, time, and trust. I felt scared as this was my first time Changing.
I laughed in glee and opened my eyes once the sensation was over. Being one of the Accepted was amazing.
After a few minutes, I came across an Accepted Wolf. It was not only possible for humans to Accept themselves and become another, but for any other creature to do so. Unfortunately, any Accepted creature can only become Human as their alternate form. The wolf had scouted me out at the auditions, though he was in his human body as to not stand out amongst the lying humans.
I recognized him from those auditions. He grinned at me. "Hey," he greeted. "Wanna race me?"
I sent a challenging look to him. "Yeah!"
He was about as far ahead of me as the length of a very tall tree, but that space was not far to a mermaid, I could catch up in a second or two if I tried. I locked my speed to that of a normal Accepted—one that was not a creature of water, as you could probably guess that fish and such were faster in water than chickens or dogs, and swam as fast as I could, a determined look on my face.
I was breathing hard, but when we got to the end, he was still in front. A few feet closer, but still in front.
The wolf of some royalty in the Accepted. A prince. There were stairs leading up to a kitchen with another Accepted cleaning a dish with a rag. The water stopped here, right at the top of the stairs. I heard the prince hide behind the maid, feigning fear. "Oh no! Look, it's a chaos bringer! Get rid of it!"
I could hear the smirk in his voice. The accepted water creatures had great hearing so I heard him as I rounded the corner. I sent him an Oh Really? face, his own expression a shit-eating grin.
The maid was truly calm and amused as I surfaced. It seemed the Accepted could sense one another. She knew I was not a creature of chaos. These built-in memories from becoming Accepted prevented me from being surprised at that fact, like I had known it all along.
Sadly, my spirit familiar had disappeared sometime during the race, no longer being needed to guide me. I smiled.
The world of the Accepted was amazing.
I would always and forever be Accepted.
I would always and forever be Me.
