Work Text:
Simon is just trying to enjoy his virgin mojito.
Even through the sunglasses sitting on the top of his nose, he can still see the vast beach stretching in front of him, can hear the faint whoosh of the waves crashing against the shore, can feel the slight breeze encircling his body gently. He’s on vacation. He’s allowed to want peace and just to relax with a drink in hand and the sun on his face.
But well, apparently, he’s not.
Because on the sunbed next to him, there are Felice and Wille, and the man hasn’t shut up for basically the last hour.
No, Simon doesn’t mind conversations. Usually, he loves conversations but firstly, he’s not involved in this one and secondly, all he’s hearing are complaints. About Wille's demanding job, his family, his mother being a bitch or whatever. And it’s not like he doesn’t feel for this guy, he does, it sucks that he must endure his homophobic, perfectionists parents but… they are on vacation. They’re supposed to be relaxing and letting loose. Don’t get him wrong, Simon’s all for talking out worries but… that’s literally all Wille’s been doing since they arrived at Felice’s beach house last night. Constant complaining. Simon has not heard a positive word leave his mouth since the beginning of their holiday.
What also doesn’t help, is the fact that he’s never really been a fan of Wilhelm himself.
Simon can… endure him. He doesn’t really have a choice, not when his sister is dating Wille’s best friend. Of course, their paths cross, quite frequently even. But the man is just so… stiff and reserved. Simon has tried striking up a conversation with him, many times, but all he got in return was some half-answers and overall, he made Simon feel as if he preferred to have a conversation with literally anyone else. So Simon stopped trying at some point. There’s also the fact that each time someone manages to start a talk in their friend group that somehow interests them both, they literally always end up at opposite ends of the stick, always disagreeing. And Wille’s takes are so fucking stupid. How the monarchy is good or that tax evasion is more moral than welfare. Well, Simon has really heard enough to judge for himself that Wilhelm is just that kind of a person he won’t get friendly with.
Still, he can tolerate him. For his sister’s sake. And Felice’s too actually. Felice is very cool.
Patient too, as she’s been listening to Wille yap for the past hour.
Now, although he is on the beach, basking in the sun, it is far from Simon’s dream place to be now. Not only because of Wilhelm but because of… everything.
He’s been having a tough time. His teaching job is always demanding but still, it’s fulfilling and he wouldn’t change it for the world. There’s nothing he loves more than working with kids and with music. Still, it gets exhausting and Simon was really looking forward to the summer break to finally get some rest, maybe travel a bit with his boyfriend.
But the thing is, he doesn’t have a boyfriend anymore.
And it’s for the best, deep down he knows it. Marcus was a piece of trash, which everyone tried to communicate to him almost right away when they started dating. But Simon got too into the I can fix him mindset that now he ended up being the broken one. First, by the man himself and all the bullshit he put Simon through during their time together, and now with their breakup.
It was Simon who ended things but it doesn’t mean it didn’t hurt. It always does when you devote a few months of your life to someone. Now he deeply regrets these months but it’s the time he can never get back.
And it’s only been like two weeks since they ended things so, as much as Simon hates to admit it, he’s still feeling somewhat fragile and just simply low.
That’s why Sara suggested he join them for the vacation. So he can get some rest, relax, and forget about his shitty ex.
Usually, it’s only Sara and Felice spending the first week of summer at Felice’s beach house, or that has been the case for the last two years since the two started dating. But this time, and no matter how much Felice denies it, Simon knows it was kind of done to accommodate him, Feice decided to go all the way and invite their friends for the holiday. For Sara, friends include Simon himself, as well as Rosh and Ayub, and for Felice, that means Wille and their best friend Maddie.
Overall, quite a good team. Well, maybe besides Wille.
While the rest is still inside the house finishing on some snacks and refreshments, Simon decided to go ahead and hang out at the beach. Sunbathe a little, maybe read a bit, just do all the bullshit beach activities to take his mind off the obvious things that are bothering him.
What he didn’t expect, was Felice and Wille joining him, to which he stupidly said yes when they showed up. Because first, he thought that they are here to do all the beach activities just like Simon, second, he didn’t want to be rude (Felice is the host after all) and third, maybe he hoped a bit to be included in the conversation. Until he found out it was another one of Wille’s monologues of complaints that is. He should have seen it coming though.
With a heavy sigh, that he actually hopes isn’t that audible and that the swoosh of the wind carries it away, Simon takes off his sunglasses and drags himself up from the sunbed.
“I’m going for a swim,” he informs. Time for another beach activity, one that will take him away from Wille’s yapping for a while.
“Okay!” Felice calls out with a smile and waves him away, meanwhile, Wille looks as if he’s just interrupted him mid-word. He actually probably did but there’s not too much time to ponder on that as he just decides to step away.
Only when he eventually dives under the water, he feels free from Wille’s agitating voice.
Sara corners him after dinner.
They’re still in the kitchen since Simon signed up for dishwashing duty and his sister decided to help him. But as soon as she declared herself to do so, Simon knew that she probably wanted to talk about something. She’s his sister after all.
“What’s up with you and Wille?” Sara asks as he hands her a pan to dry with the tea towel she’s holding.
“What do you mean?” Simon replies with a question as he turns back to the sink to continue with the washing.
“I mean,” his sister begins in that tone of hers she uses when she explains something to him, “That you’re being weird to him.”
“I’m being weird?” Simon almost snorts.
“Well, Felice said so.”
“You know I’m not his biggest fan.”
“Yeah but,” Sara sighs. “You promised you wouldn’t be weird and-”
“Sara, I’m not being weird,” Simon urges and turns to her. “Besides,” he lowers his voice although the others are probably out on the beach anyway “all he does since we got here is complain. It’s just annoying. I’m here on vacation, not to listen about his horrible, corporate job. If he hates it so much maybe he should quit!”
“You know it’s not that easy for him, it’s his parents’ company,” Sara offers sympathetically and yeah, she’s right. Simon doesn’t really know the details, he usually tunes everything out whenever Wille talks, so maybe he shouldn’t speak on it. Eventually, he just ends up letting out a heavy sigh. “He’s just been having a tough time,” Sara tries and Simon almost snorts. As if I haven’t, and I’m not ruining everyone’s holidays because of it , he thinks but, thankfully, bites his tongue and just shakes his head.
There’s silence but it feels like Sara is still waiting for him to say something,
“I’m sorry if I came off weird,” Simon says eventually. “I’ll try to do better, I promise. And even if he annoys me, I just won’t let it show.”
“Thank you,” Sara smiles at him and squeezes his arm gratefully. “I just… I don’t want any drama here, you know? I want all of us, and especially you, to have a great, relaxing vacation, okay? And just… yeah, Felice is important to me. And so are you, so of course I want you to get along with her and her friends.”
“Felice is great, I’ve never said a bad word about her.”
“I know because there are no bad words to be spoken when it comes to my girlfriend,” Sara retorts. Almost threateningly but Simon just chuckles.
“So you do agree that there are some bad words to be said about Wille then?” He arches an eyebrow.
Sara opens her mouth but then just closes it and slaps him away with the towel.
“Just finish up quickly so we can join the others,” she says instead and Simon notes that with an amused chuckle.
Still, he does as he’s told and soon, they make their way outside.
The sun is close to setting now when they reach the little circle their friends have settled in on the sand. In a few short skips, Sara goes to join Felice, sitting down next to her and pressing closer to her side till her girlfriend gets the hint to wrap her arm around her. Simon smiles at the scene. There’s nothing that he loves more than watching her as happy and in love as she is when she’s with Felice. This time though, he can’t help but feel a little pang in his heart, at how he now won’t be able to entertain such little gesture. Not that he actually did, Marcus wasn’t much into PDA.
Shaking his head a little, Simon just squeezes himself between Rosh and Ayub as his friends welcome him with open arms. On the opposite side of the little circle they’ve formed, there’s Wille, then next to him Maddison and then Sara and Felice.
“We decided we’re playing truth or dare!” Maddie announces then cheerfully.
“Who exactly decided that?” Wille asks, sounding sort of panicked.
“Me, just now.”
Wille throws her a deadpan expression but she just shrugs.
“How are we going to choose the people?” Rosh questions then and Maddie seems to think for a second, before reaching for her half-empty beer bottle with a victorious smile, drowning it in one go and then placing it in the middle between them. Rosh gives an approving nod. “That’ll do.”
“I’m spinning first,” Maddie proclaims herself the starting player then but nobody seems to have any objections. The bottle lands on Rosh who throws her hands helplessly in the air as the rest of the group chuckles. “Truth or dare?”
“Dare,” Rosh doesn’t think long and just as Simon expects, she chooses the dare.
“Hmm,” Maddie thinks. “I dare you to… finish your drink,” she gestures to her still mostly full glass but Rosh only rolls her eyes.
“Easy,” she states, accepting the challenge and executing it with no further troubles.
They keep going and next the bottle lands on Sara, who chooses truth so Rosh asks about the last thing she googled (it was something about flowers, not anything juicy as Rosh maybe was hoping). Sara dares Felice to kiss her, which is, in Maddie’s opinion (which Simon kind of agrees with) lame. Then Ayub chooses a dare as well, so he’s tasked by Felice with finding a perfectly shaped seashell (he succeeds). Wille chooses truth so Ayub asks if he has a crush on anyone now. Very typical question so they all call him out on his lack of creativity. The answer is a shy yes accompanied by Wille’s cheeks flushing, which causes a wave of curious murmurs to travel over their group. Since Maddie kept complaining the most about all the dares being mid, Wille dares her to run into the sea with her clothes on. She easily complies. And next, since Simon is apparently feeling bold too, he chooses a dare as well and regrets it instantly when he realises it’s Maddie who’s supposed to come up with a challenge for him.
“I dare you to…” she must be weighing some options as she eyes him curiously. “Remove a piece of clothing.”
Simon arches an eyebrow.
“Only if you’re comfortable with that!” Felice adds quickly and elbows her friend in the ribs not so subtly.
“Okay…” Simon trails off with a chuckle. Unfortunately, they’re on the beach so he’s not wearing socks to play it off with that. For the lack of better choices, he chooses to remove his overshirt, leaving him in just a tank top. Thankfully, it’s a surprisingly warm night.
Everyone claps at the completed dare and Simon offers a dramatic bow. Before the other round can start, Maddie begins to complain that she’s cold since her clothes are still wet, so they decide to set up a bonfire to keep warm. Once they’re all gathered around the fire, they seem to kind of forget about the game and just dive into some light conversations. The sun has now set over the horizon but the stars in the sky are a no less beautiful view. It’s so nice to watch them here, not disrupted by the city’s landscape, Simon realises.
Soon enough, Madison decides that the bonfire is not enough to keep her warm and retreats for the night. Same with Sara and Felice, who has to drag a half-asleep Sara back to the house. Not long after that, Ayub yawns and retorts it’s time to go too. He takes a slightly tipsy Rosh with him and Simon’s sure Wille’s going to leave too since basically everyone is gone. Simon debates moving himself but the stars are looking really pretty so he chooses to give himself a few more minutes to gaze at them.
He feels far from at peace though, when he realises Wille hasn’t left with the others and is actually still sitting opposite him and staring at him. Simon completely tears his eyes away from the stars above to offer him a questioning look. It feels like he wants to say something.
Wille keeps looking for a while longer, making Simon both impatient and slightly irritated, but then he clears his throat and finally speaks.
“Truth or dare?”
Simon bursts out a chuckle, not really expecting them to return to the game but he retorts he can let himself be entertained.
And actually, he kind of appreciates Wille starting the conversation. It’s always been the other way around.
“Dare,” he replies, only because he wants to see what Wille can come up with.
“Hmm,” Wille sighs, looking around as if a dare was to appear out of nowhere for him. “I dare you to put on your shirt.” He gestures to the abandoned piece of clothing Simon disregarded during the game.
“Really?” Simon arches an eyebrow but Wille shrugs. He could have asked him to do anything, even some embarrassing stuff and this is what he uses his dare for?
“It’s getting cold,” Wille just states and yeah, only then Simon realises that the breeze is indeed cooler, so he actually gladly completes the challenge.
“Truth or dare?” He shoots back then.
“Truth,” Wille doesn’t hesitate and Simon rolls his eyes. So predictable.
“Do you have any weird hobbies or obsessions?”
Wille seems surprised at such a question, chuckling a bit nervously.
“What? It’s a normal question,” Simon deflects.
“What do you mean by weird?”
“I don’t know, whatever. Just apply your own definition.”
“Okay…” Wille trails off and thinks for a moment. “I like… frogs. Like, frog-related stuff. I have this little snow globe with a frog prince in it and some other items. It’s silly, I know,” he drops his gaze and chuckles, as if trying to hide his embarrassment.
“No, it’s interesting,” Simon retorts. It really is the single most interesting thing he’s found out about Wille so far because it’s unique and not dull. It’s something more personal that actually lets him see some glimpse at the person Wille is.
Wille nods slowly, the corners of his lips quirking a little, as he clears his throat again.
“Truth or dare?” He carries on.
“Truth,” Simon chooses to switch things up a bit.
“Why do you not like me?”
Well, it was a bad choice then.
Simon lets out a long exhale.
“I don’t dislike you, Wille-”
“I just want to know because if it was something I did or-,”
“No, it’s…” Simon cuts in but doesn’t really know how to formulate what he wants to say. He doesn’t even know what exactly he wants to say yet. “I just don’t really know you, Wille. But every time I try to get to know you, you just seem… distant, reserved.”
“I know,” Wille nods as he drops his gaze again. His knee is bouncing nervously as he continues. “I just… I struggle. With anxiety and stuff. With people, in general. Social interactions, it’s just… not really my thing.”
Simon offers a sympathetic smile in answer.
“Ever since my brother died, it’s just been worse.”
His words startle Simon a little.
“I had no idea. I’m sorry,” he admits genuinely because yeah, no one has ever mentioned it to him. Not that Simon expected Wille himself to admit such a thing, especially considering how they’re mere acquaintances at this point. But Simon kind of curses Sara for never mentioning such a fact to him since she probably knows. Then he realises it’s not her thing to tell and he’s actually glad to hear it from Wille.
“It’s been a few years,” Wille says. “But it’s still… tough. I think it always will be. But since he’s gone, Felice is literally the only person I feel like I can talk to. I feel so bad about constantly moping to her, no matter how much she assures me it’s fine, but I just… it’s hard to keep it all in and she’s my best friend.”
“I’m sure she doesn’t mind listening to you,” Simon states. Now he sort of feels bad for bitching about Wille’s constant complaining with Felice. It seems like she really is the only person he can open up to, of course, he’ll grab such a chance as soon as it appears, and he should. “Hell, I’m sure she wants to do it, that’s what friends are for.”
“Yeah, that’s exactly what she said,” Wille throws him a smile.
The conversation dies down a little then, both of them seemingly taking in the newly acquired information.
“Truth or dare?” Simon then remembers it’s his turn to ask. Wille’s smile widens a bit at the prospect of returning to the game it seems.
“Truth.”
“Why can’t you quit your job? It seems like you hate it,” well if Wille can ask bold questions, he decides to ask one himself too.
“I wish it was that simple,” Wille retorts regretfully. “But it’s a family business. One my brother was supposed to take over but now that he’s… now it’s my job, to preserve the legacy and stuff.”
“Okay, but it’s still your life. If you don’t want to do it, they can’t force you,” Simon tries to reason.
“You clearly don’t know my parents,” Wille chuckles bitterly. “They have a lot of expectations when it comes to me. Ones I don’t really have a choice not to fulfil.”
“But there’s always some choice-”
“You asked why I can’t quit. I said that it’s too complicated. Can this please be enough of an answer?” Wille asks with a pleading note in his tone, making it clear he doesn’t want to discuss it anymore.
“Sure,” Simon easily drops it, not wanting to ruin the tentative thread of understanding that’s being shaped between them.
“Truth or dare?” Wille picks back up then.
“Truth.”
“Why are you here?” The question causes Simon to frown and Wille must now realise that it came out weirdly as he rushes to clarify. “I mean like, why did you decide to go on the vacation?”
“Because Felice invited me,” Simon shrugs although he knows it is not the exact, whole reason.
“Yeah, I know but…” It seems Wille knows something more too. Simon holds his gaze for a moment, daring him to confess and eventually, Wille gives in as he sighs. “Sara said you weren’t doing well. That you need to relax and get away from things.”
Damn you Sara.
“She didn’t go into any details, I promise, I just… sorry, I was curious but I understand if this is not my place-”
“It’s fine,” Simon assures before Wille can completely spiral. There’s no point in hiding anything, not when Wille knows so much anyway. And when it seems to be the night of honesty. “I broke up with my boyfriend. So yeah, I’ve been doing a bit shitty.”
“I’m sorry,” Wille says sympathetically. “Were you together for long or…”
“A few months,” Simon replies. “But it’s for the better. He wasn’t… a good person, exactly. I mean, there was a lot of shit going on between us. Some of it, it took me way too long to notice.”
“Like what?”
“Like how manipulative he was, for example.”
“I wouldn’t,” Wille says, a bit more to himself but Simon manages to hear anyway and his eyebrow knit in consternation again. “I mean I-, I just mean I’ve been manipulated to so I… yeah, I know how it feels and I would never… do that to you. Or anyone else, for that matter, you know.”
Simon nods slowly, taking in his rambling. It’s kind of cute though, how he seems to stumble over words and how his cheeks visibly flush pink, even in the light of the bonfire still burning between them.
“Manipulated by who?” Simon can’t stop himself from asking.
“My parents,” Wille winces at his own answer and yeah, after what Simon’s already found out about them today, his answer kind of makes sense. He decides to cut this subject short, not to let Wille dwell on it and sink into a more sombre mood.
“Truth or dare?”
“Truth.” Wille seems relieved at the swift change.
“Who do you have a crush on?”
Wille almost chokes on his laugh, the sound of which comes out incredibly nervous though.
“What?” Simon finds himself laughing along. His laughter is just contagious like that.
“You don’t want to know,” Wille shakes his head.
“What? Come on! I do!” Simon urges. “Is it a coworker? A friend or…”
“I don’t think I can call him a friend, actually,” Wille states, his tone turning a bit more serious now. “Although I’d want to.”
“Why not then?”
“Because just a while ago, I was convinced he hated me. So now I don’t want to get ahead of myself.”
Simon frowns. Damn, that seems like a confusing story. Although something about it sounds familiar. It’s a shame Wille feels like this though, so unsure of what he stands on or-
Fuck.
Simon feels his eyes widen.
No, but it can’t be him. Can he?
Wille can’t mean him, it would be insane. It just must be someone else with a similar story because there is no way.
When his eyes meet Wille's, it seems like there is a way after all. He’s looking at Simon in a manner that sort of answers all of his questions but it feels unreal. It just really can’t be.
“Truth or dare?” The words leave Simon in a rush, eager to get his final answer, although he knows it’s not his turn to ask now.
“Truth,” Wille rolls his eyes, probably seeing what’s coming.
Well, Simon will either completely embarrass himself now or solve the mystery that has been racking his brain for the past minute or so.
“Is it me?” He asks.
Wille looks at him with his bottom lip between his teeth, Simon feels inexplicably drawn to that view, and nods.
Simon lets out a breath. His head is spinning a bit.
But when he looks closely at this whole thing, it kind of makes sense. Wille’s hesitance around him, the nervousness, the weird push and pull between them… this is totally how Simon would feel if he had a crush too.
This is totally how he feels now, he realises. And it doesn’t feel as scary as it should.
Wille chuckles a bit self-deprecatingly.
“Truth or dare?” He prompts, almost as if trying for his reveal to go unnoticed. Well, it's not so easy and Simon doesn't think they should let it. Not when he realises he feels a similar way about him.
“Dare.”
Wille’s eyes widen at that, he opens his mouth but nothing comes out for a moment and Simon kind of prays within himself. Just ask me, dare me.
But maybe he doesn’t want to. He has every right not to want to.
“I’m sorry, I don’t have any dares,” Wille shakes his head with a laugh.
“I have one,” Simon says and stands up, rounding the bonfire to get closer to Wille and sit down next to him, so their thighs are pressed together. The man keeps looking at him, startled. The emotions reflect in his eyes now, the light of the fire only adding some depth to the hope, hint of fear but also some sort of sense of calm present there. Simon lets out a trembling exhale and gently lays his palm on Wille’s thigh. The feeling is electrifying. From up close, he can hear how Wille’s breathing quickens, can feel his own heartbeat rising. Especially when Wille’s palm finds its way to rest above his.
“I…” Simon starts, feeling almost breathless at the sudden closeness between them. It’s probably stupid. It’s way too soon and Simon should stop and think before he does something he will regret. But something tells him that when it comes to Wille, there will be no such thing as regrets. Maybe this is what he needs but even if it isn’t, this is what he wants. And it’s all he can think about. “I dare myself to kiss you.” Wille’s breath hitches in his throat audibly. “If that’s okay.”
Wille clears his throat, his eyes dropping to Simon’s lips as he speaks.
“I choose truth. And to answer you, it’s very much okay.”
Simon can’t help but smile but then his lips are occupied with something else as they press to Wille’s.
Wille kisses him back like he’s never been kissed before. It’s soft but thorough, deep and intense, yet gentle. His palm goes to rest tenderly against Simon’s cheek, tilting his head delicately to get a better angle and damn, Simon almost moans in the back of his throat for how good it feels. It’s like his whole body lights up with some sort of desire, burning for Wille’s touch. It’s like nothing he’s ever felt before.
When they pull back, they are both breathless and giggle at how much the kiss seems to have affected them. Wille still keeps him close and Simon doesn’t even think of wanting to pull away. His thumb strokes delicate lines against Simon’s cheek as they’re both still trying to catch their breath.
And it feels good, being like this with him. So good Simon has trouble believing it’s real, that everything between them has really happened. He doesn’t know what it all means yet, is afraid to ask and ruin the moment because this… this is the best he’s felt in a long while. He wants to hold onto that.
“I think maybe we should…” Wille starts then and clears his throat as his voice comes out hoarse “head back,” he finished a bit distractedly, almost as if he got lost in Simon’s eyes as he keeps staring at him.
“Okay,” Simon agrees, trying to bite down on his grin.
Then Wille takes his hand and gently laces their fingers together, glancing at Simon with a questioning gaze, as if trying to ask if it’s okay. Simon instantly gives a nod and lets Wille lead them back to the house with a silly, giddy smile stretching on his lips.
The walk is short but they seem to chuckle each time their eyes meet for a brief moment. It’s cute and Simon definitely feels his stomach flutter with pleasant warmth at such a little action. It’s a feeling he’s been missing. One that maybe he wasn’t even sure he was capable of feeling anymore but suddenly, here’s Wille proving him wrong.
As they climb up the stairs inside to reach the wing where the bedrooms are, Simon ponders on how much he’s never noticed. How cute Wille is, how pretty, how even if he struggles, he still tries. It’s like all of this hits him now, that he’s kind of misinterpreted everything that went down between them until today. Simon also can’t say that for the last few months he was at his best, so it has clearly affected his judgement too. Well, enough of that. Enough of Marcus succeeding in making him miserable. It’s high time he takes the matters of his happiness into his own hands.
They reach Simon’s bedroom then, stopping at the door. Simon leans back against it but still refuses to let go of Wille’s hand, playing with their fingers now.
“So… this is me,” he says, gesturing slightly to the door behind him. As if Wille didn’t know it’s his room. He for sure does though.
“Uhuh,” Wille just hums and the way he bites his lip is definitely stirring something in Simon.
His other hand wanders to rest on Wille’s chest and he swears he can feel the quickened beat of his heart. He won’t call him out on it though, not when his is just the same.
Simon leans closer, so close he barely resists touching his lips to Wille’s again.
“I don’t want this night to end yet,” he admits in a whisper.
Wille inhales sharply.
“It doesn’t have to,” he answers, equally as quiet and his words prompt Simon to grin.
“Yeah?”
“Yeah.”
He’s done holding back and he just kisses him again.
Soon enough, Simon feels himself being pressed to the door behind him, Wille’s body covering his with the need to get even closer. Simon easily lets him crowd him into the space as his own hands eagerly reach to dive into Wille’s hair, running through the silky locks. He sighs into the kiss, again growing breathless quite quickly, and fumbles with his hand to find the doorknob. Once he does, they stumble into the room in a fit of giggles.
Not wasting more time, Simon steers them towards the bed in the middle, making Wille sit on the edge with a gentle push, so he can climb into his lap. Wille’s hands slide against his back, climb beneath his shirt and make Simon gasp at the slight coolness of his touch, contrasting with his own hot skin. He tries to give as good as he gets, reaching for every scrap of Wille’s body he can with his indecisive hands.
Things start to grow heated rapidly, as they begin to shed clothes, creating a collection of them on the floor. But just then, Simon notices some hesitance in Wille’s movements.
“Simon, wait,” he pants out. His hands still rest on Simon’s hips and he’s rubbing soothing circles on his hipbones. Simon’s not sure for whose comfort actually. He looks back at the man and sees a question in his eyes.
And Simon can’t really blame him for his hesitance, for stopping and trying to check in. It’s actually sweet that he does. Considering that Simon basically just dropped a bomb on him that he’s still kind of recovering from his breakup. Wille might be worried, rightfully so, that this is just some sort of distraction for him, just scratching an itch. But he couldn’t be more wrong because this? This is something Simon’s burning for, something he wants and for once, he lets the want take over.
“I’m over my shitty ex, I just want to be with you.” He states in a rush, still breathless.
The breath that Wille lets out sounds relieved.
“Are you sure?” He still inquires.
“I am.”
That seems to be all the confirmation Wille needs, as his lips curve into a smile again before he dives in for another kiss. They tumble back on the bed, Simon’s arms bracketing Wille’s head as neither of them wants to stop kissing. It’s addictive, getting lost in each other like this. It’s like the world stops to exist and it’s only them.
“Wait,” Wille stops again then, pressing gently on Simon’s chest to stop him from chasing after the kiss.
“What?”
“It’s just…” Wille trails off and Simon restrains from rolling his eyes but he is getting impatient. He lowers his voice as he continues. “Our friends are basically right behind the wall. And your sister.”
Simon arches an eyebrow at him, in a manner that’s trying to say seriously, this is what you’re worried about? But then he only smirks, leaning in closer till his lips almost brush against Wille.
“Are you scared you won’t be able to keep quiet?”
“Maybe I’m scared you won’t?”
Oh, Simon is definitely up for a challenge.
“Let’s find out then, shall we?”
Simon wakes up to the sound of seagulls echoing from the outside and to the soft breeze making its way inside from the open balcony doors. He yawns as he opens his eyes, trying to adjust to the brightness of the sun with which the room is glowing now.
Just as he comes to, he realises he’s not alone in his bed. Wille is right next to him, with his arm thrown around his middle, still sleeping soundly.
So Simon didn’t dream last night. At some point, he was scared that he did because how could it really feel that good? He smiles only at the flashes of it that run through his head now. Glancing behind himself, he can see Wille’s peaceful face as he’s sleeping. The freckles on his face look even more prominent in the morning sun, his hair is all messy, some of it falling on his face and Simon reaches to gently sweep it away.
Carefully and quietly, Simon makes his way out of the bed. He throws on some clothes, only his boxers and a shirt that he then realises is Wille’s, not even bothering to button it. It’s a warm morning anyway and he still has the memories of last night to keep him warm as well.
He makes his way to the balcony yet can’t help but steal a glance at Wille back in his bed, so peaceful and adorable as he snuggles closer to Simon’s pillow.
He needs a moment of clarity though, one that he knows he won’t be able to reach with Wille right next to him. He’s grown to get way too easily distracted by him.
The whoosh of waves from down below welcomes him as he steps onto the balcony and it’s like Simon can already feel its calming effect. The steady, natural sound is like the best kind of music now as he lets his head clear.
He doesn’t regret last night. Not one bit of it. Not their breakthrough when it comes to communicating as well as… other things. What Simon struggles with is… what now? What does everything that happened between them really mean? Where do they go from here? Are they even ready to head in the same direction?
“There you are,” Wille appears in the balcony doors then. Simon turns and greets him with a smile as he steps closer. “I thought you left,” Wille admits a bit shyly.
“No,” Simon shakes his head and tugs him closer till Wille wraps his arms around him from behind. He also has foregone much of the clothing, only with his boxers on.
“What’s up?” He questions as he nuzzles his face in Simon’s neck. The action makes him smile.
“Just thinking.”
“About?” He can feel a series of kisses being pressed to his neck and tilts his head a little.
“Us,” he replies brethily.
“And what did you come up with?” Wille asks in a whisper but his voice sounds a bit shaky.
Simon pulls back enough to be able to twist in his embrace and look him in the eyes. Thankfully, that doesn’t make Wille let go of him. Actually, he seems to be holding him even tighter.
“That… this is nice, us,” Simon retorts.
“It really is,” Wille agrees, his eyes shining hopefully in the morning sun.
“So I was thinking maybe we could…” Simon braces himself with an exhale “keep it going? Just being… us, together?” He bites his lip, tracing Wille’s face as he waits for an answer.
Wille doesn’t keep him in the dark for long though, as his face immediately breaks into a bright grin.
“Yes,” he agrees giddily “I’d love that.”
“Good,” Simon retorts and presses a kiss to his lips, as if sealing a deal. It leaves them both chuckling. “There’s just one thing.”
“What is it?” Wille frowns worriedly.
“How do we break this news to our friends?” Simon questions because… well, he expects it will be quite the news for them.
Wille seems pensive for a moment before a tentative smile returns to his face.
“I don’t think it will be much trouble,” the smile swiftly turns into a smirk.
Simon frowns at the elusive answer but just then, he notices that Wille is looking down from the balcony and follows his line of sight.
And just there, right below them, their friends are gathered, all looking up with big grins. As they now must notice that Wille and he spotted them, they also begin to cheer and applaud them. Simon still feels slightly confused but he just has to smile at such a view.
“Finally!” Felice shouts and Simon can feel Wille hiding his blushing face in the back of his neck. He lets himself laugh, offering their friends a tiny bow, almost as if Wille and he were staring in some sort of rendition of Romeo and Juliet up here on the balcony.
But as he burrows himself more into Wille’s side, he can already tell that their story will be way less dramatic. Right now, it feels very much like a fairytale, that kind that for sure has a happy ending.
