Darkness Over The Gorge

Summary:

This fic is a redo of The Bush, The Rain, and The Gorge. I planned on continuing that last fic but re-reading it there were so many changes I wanted to make which I would have to completely delete and rewrite the only vague chapters I had. So this is a new fic which follows the same premise of the three clans existing outside of the main five, just with tweaks to the plot, name changes, and designs. I hope you enjoy it.

If you are new here. It's basically a fan clan fic.

Chapter 1: Introduction and Lore

Chapter Text

Explanation / Summary:
This fic is a redo of The Bush, The Rain, and The Gorge. I planned on continuing that last fic but re-reading it there were so many changes I wanted to make which I would have to completely delete and rewrite the only vague chapters I had. So this is a new fic which follows the same premise of the three clans existing outside of the main five, just with tweaks to the plot, name changes, and designs. I hope you enjoy it.

If you are new here. It's basically a fan clan fic.

Major Changes:
Apart from the plot (which I will not write because the last fic barely started) a few major differences have been added.
Branch’s kit name has been changed to Newt. His original adult name was going to be NewtSpeck but that's been changed and writing an apostrophe (‘s) on Branch was getting confusing.
Many design changes and the addition of new cats (I may draw some MC designs so you know what changed)
GrimStar’s name has been changed to GrimSky
GorgeClan’s name has been changed to DarkClan

What's the deal with DarkClan? (GorgeClan)
In my last fic, The Bush, The Rain, and The Gorge I briefly explained why GorgeClan follows a different code than the other two in the forest. I have edited it slightly so I will go into more detail here.
Sometime between Dawn of the Clans and Into the Wild a rogue named Perch joined ShadowClan. Perch stayed with ShadowClan for many moons and fell in love with a she-cat, SpottedPelt. Another warrior, DarkMoon was resentful of Perch for many reasons. DarkMoon loved SpottedPelt ‘more than any cat ever could’ and loathed Perch for stealing her. So he killed Perch’s apprentice and framed Perch for their death. The current leader banished Perch from the forest, gaining support from the other clans as he announced the news at the gathering. Perch was left to wander outside the forest territory and made many friends on his way. With Perch out of the way, DarkMoon tried his luck with SpottedPelt at the same gathering where Perch’s exile was announced. DarkMoon confessed to her but she did not feel the same. In an act of desperation DarkMoon admitted to killing his clan mate and framing it on Perch. SpottedPelt in anger, lashed out at DarkMoon. The commotion stirred up an audience DarkMoon was scarred and exiled for his crimes. SpottedPelt left her clan behind in search of her mate Perch. When she found him he had become a noble leader of rogues and kitty pets. He’d introduced them to the ways of the clans and established himself as leader of the informal PerchClan. SpottedPelt and Perch were overjoyed to have reunited and joined Perch as a warrior and soon to be mother of his kits.

Many moons had passed and their three kittens were growing well. Outside of PerchClan’s established territory DarkMoon had been lurking for moons, collecting his own following. He too had started his own unofficial clan and was planning his revenge on Perch. DarkMoon and his warriors ambushed PerchClan’s camp and killed one of Perch’s daughters in the process. To Perch this meant war. He sent out a huge patrol to find the location of DarkMoon’s camp and attacked. The battle left DarkClan scattered and weak so the remaining warriors fled into the Gorge where PerchClan couldn’t find them. DarkMoon couldn’t stand to uphold the same code as he once did and began to change it to fit own standards. Each day he would shout out to his warriors ‘The DarkClan code’ his own twisted version of the warrior code, one he thought would make his clan strong again. And it did. Many moons later, after DarkClan had recovered, an ex-RiverClan warrior found her way to DarkClan. She protested that the new code wouldn’t make them a clan and rather a group of vengeful rouges. DarkMoon resented this but to his surprise many of his warriors agreed. DarkMoon made them choose between his code or what he called the ‘code of our enemy’. DarkClan was now split in two, the cats who chose DarkMoon became known as DarkClan and those who chose the original warrior code became known as RainClan. (PerchClan later changed to BushClan in honor of Perch’s deceased daughter.) Since then a sort of war has been going between DarkClan and BushClan.

The DarkClan Code

Distraught by his loss, DarkMoon started to question his ancestors and his code by which his warriors fought. Realizing both had failed him he decided to make up his own. The ‘DarkClan Code’ still follows the same rules as the regular warrior code with a change to the naming system and roles.

Roles:
DarkClan has two leaders. One leader focuses on warrior duties, assigning patrols, leading battles, and hunting. The other leader focuses on healing clan members and keeping the camp clear. Apprentices are trained mainly to hunt and lead battles but can opt for training under the healing leader. Leaders still receive their 9 lives but if a leader dies the other will take over their duties until a new leader is selected. If both die two clanmates will be selected by the current healers.

Naming System:
Typically cats are given a set prefix and their suffix changes with age and role but in DarkClan it's different. Kits are given a single name by their parents (ex: Newt or Dawn) they are referred to as that single name all throughout their kithood and apprenticeship up until their earn their warrior name. They then gain both a new prefix and a suffix. (Ex. Dusk → GrimSky). Very sudden change in name, a little hard to adjust to, but warriors hold their new name with pride. Both leaders help to select names for their warriors, one choosing the prefix and the other the suffix.
