Eyes the color of death

Work Text:

Silence...

Breath...

Steps...

Wonderful day. The fire crackled merrily in the fireplace. Mrs. Potter was sitting on a large sofa with little Harry in her arms. Her beautiful eyes, the color of fresh grass, followed the text in the book she was reading. Her son listened carefully to her words.

Mr. Potter stood in the doorway to the living room with a smile on his face, observing this wonderful painting. After a moment, Harry noticed his presence. So he pulled his mother's hair, attracting her attention. The woman stopped reading and looked into her son's eyes. Into blue eyes, the color of a cloudless sky...

James laughed. Lily and Harry turned towards him. The woman was already opening her mouth to say something to him when they both heard the door banging open.

- It's him Lily... Take Harry and run!

James called, already running towards the door. The woman grabbed her son in her arms and ran into his room.

She wanted to be here when she died. She knew there was no help for her, but she wanted to do everything to save Harry.

When heavy footsteps sounded on the stairs, she knew that she only had a moment, a few seconds, to say goodbye to her son and... she didn't know what to say. Each subsequent step was like the ticking of a clock.

Tick Tock...

She turned sideways to the door so she could look at her son's face one last time.

- We love you, Harry, and mommy and daddy... We love you very much, son...

She said kissing his forehead. The door flew off its hinges, hitting the wall next to her, but Lily didn't move, still shielding the boy with her body.

-Get away, girl!

Voldemort ordered, standing in the doorway. But she didn't seem to notice him, she was still standing in front of the bed, like a living shield.

-Not, Harry.

She whispered.

- Just not Harry. Take me. Kill me. Spare Harry.

She spoke over and over again, repeating it like a mantra, as if it could stop the monster that was coming for them.

-Stupid girl.

He said, raising his wand. After a moment, a green beam of spell left its end. Lily fell dead next to her son's bed.

- Avada kedavra.

Voldemort said as he watched the beam fly towards the child. At that moment, his entire plan fell apart. The boy didn't die. The spell beam was absorbed by the transparent barrier. When Voldemort came closer to look at her, he looked at the boy first. At the boy who was also looking at him. At the boy in whose eyes he saw exactly the same color as in the Avadas he shot.
