Jimin's Umbrella

Summary:

Ever come up from the subway and seen rain and felt the dread of inevitable drenching? Now you know how Jimin feels. Don't worry though! You have an extra umbrella and are about to make this man's day.

Notes:

I've returned to give you 900 unedited words that i wrote at work and immediately posted. Sorry not sorry! Gotta take that impulse to write and run with it while it lasts. I haven't been up to date on BTS content at all I have no idea what's happening while they're in the military, but I've been thinking about them recently so here is this. Enjoy...?

Work Text:

The train doors closed behind you as you hopped off at your stop, following the stream of people headed downtown. After a long fun day out with friends, you were definitely ready to have a quiet evening to yourself at home. You limped your way up the steps to the exit, shrugging your bag higher on your shoulder as it threatened to slip off. The exit to the subway was crowded as you came up to it, and it wasn’t hard to tell why. During the time you had been underground, the looming clouds had decided to finally start raining. Not wanting to fight through a crowd, you decided to wait off to the side for the way to clear.

As the crowd dispersed, some opening umbrellas, others just making a dash for it, you saw someone with honestly really stunning hair pacing anxiously against the opposite wall. He was wearing a mask, so you couldn’t see much of his face, but from his shoes and clothes you assumed he was some sort of… fancy businessman? When did business guys start doing hair treatments? You wondered to yourself. Weird, but not really something you needed to worry about. You decided to finally pull out your umbrella and get ready to leave, but your attention was caught when the pacing man hissed something into his phone in a distinctly upset tone of voice. Taking a little step back, you felt just the slightest bit nervous. Angry men were definitely not your forte, and although he seemed focused on your phone, you didn’t really want to risk walking past him and potentially catching his attention.

“Yes I understand, but I didn’t expect rain until later tonight, and I left all my things- I’m sorry!” A pause. “I don’t think there’s a way for me to make it in time. No, there isn’t. I don’t know. I guess I’ll wait it out then.”

You didn’t like to eavesdrop, but it was safety first, always. Though this man didn’t seem aggressive. Honestly, he sounded more sad and frustrated than anything. Understandable, considering he was dressed like he was headed to something important, and clearly had no umbrella with him. What if he was trying to close, like, an important deal? Oh, what if he was a new employee and this was his first important presentation to his bosses and it was important for him to make a good impression and now with the rain-

Yeah, ok, let’s relax a little. You took a deep breath and tried to realign your thoughts. You had an overactive imagination, a history of anxiety, and bad habit of feeling like other people’s problems were now your own. Fortunately, this was one problem you could actually help with.

“Excuse me… sir?” You tentatively walked up to him.

“Ah, yes?” He asked guardedly. Smiling nervously you pulled your extra umbrella out of your bag.

“I couldn’t help but notice you’re dressed very nicely, and with the rain and all… Um.” You trailed off as he just stared at you. The only way to finish this social interaction was to push through. You reached down for some social battery. “I have an extra umbrella if you want it! I always carry two just in case somebody else needs one. It’s not very good, I just got it from the dollar store but it does the job and it seemed like you needed it andit’syoursnowgoodbye!”

You attempted to push the umbrella into his hand and flee but before you could, he shook off his shock and beamed at you as he accepted it. Even through the mask his eye-smile was so evident it made you relax.

“Oh thank you so much!" He bowed apologetically "I’m sorry I was just distracted. Thank you very much!”

You sighed in relief and waved him off “Oh no it’s no problem! I’m just glad I could help haha! I’ve been carrying that extra umbrella so long I’m glad I was finally able to use it.” The beautiful man laughed and repeated his thanks before rushing off at a fast walk with your umbrella raised above him. You shook your head and headed off in the other direction towards home.

Good luck, business guy! I hope your presentation or whatever goes well! He definitely looked familiar, so maybe he was a reporter or something…

By the time you got home, you were still thinking about it. He was so familiar… Dropping your things by the door to sort through later, you flopped down on the couch and decided to check social media.

The first thing to come up on your public feed was a message from Jimin of BTS saying “Received a surprise help today! Please remember to be thankful for the people around you, and take care of each other well.” Mysterious. Who ever knew what that man was thinking. The second thing you scrolled to was some shots of Jimin from BTS rushing through… the rain…. With a very familiar umbrella…… NO WAY.

I am going to take a nap and everything will be normal again when I wake up, you decided.

Well. You were glad to help anyways, you thought despairingly. Hopefully you hadn’t acted like too much of a fool… It seemed like he was thankful anyways! It really had been worth it to carry that umbrella for so long in the end.
