Work Text:
It had been a few months since kyoko had given up her humanity in order to be with Celestia, and she had never been happier. The order and monotony of her old life was shed in favour of the comforting, yet hectic, existence of being the queen's bride.
"Kyo, I'm boredddd." The nickname had started a little while ago, a symbol of Celeste's affection.
The vampire in question was sprawled on a chaise longe, one arm over her eyes. It took everything Kyoko had to not beam at her wife in this state, the state only Kyoko could see her in.
"What do you want to do?" Kyoko's disinterest was just for show, and they both knew it. She awaited her answer patiently, until a realization hit her. she knew what would happen now-
"Shopping!!!!!" Celeste trilled.
Damn it. If there was one thing Kyoko hated more than anything, it was shopping.
"...Fine." Celeste's melodic chime of a giggle resounded at her resentful tone.
Minutes later they arrived at a shopping district, owned by monsters, for monsters. As reproachful as Kyoko was, she had to admit the architecture was stunning. It was more grandiose than any shopping district she'd ever visited, plus it was more crowded and lively too. That didn't make it any less boring to be dragged around to shops by Celeste, who was likely not going to buy anything. The day felt like a blur, seconds inching by with snail's pace.
Celeste is lucky I love her.
If she didn't, Kyoko would have killed herself by now.
Yawning as she leaned against a wall, Kyoko waited for Celeste to try on yet another outfit.
"Kyoko?"
That voice...
Kyoko turned around.
"Byakuya!" She blurted, losing her composure slightly and snapping out of her bored daze.
And it was him. Slightly different, but then again, so was she.
Wolfish ears sprouted from his head - dirty blonde like his hair, and his canines were sharp and protruded from his mouth.
You're kidding? He didn't...
"Your eyes... I'm assuming your mission didn't go according to plan?" His tone was snide and his smirk was just as insufferable as Kyoko remembered.
"Shut it, Mr 'I am apparently a werewolf now but still feel like I can rib my friend for getting turned into a vampire', you don't have the moral ground here." Kyoko's voice still carried that sharp indignation that characterized her so well, Byakuya noticed, his smirk fading to a soft smile that showcased his relief to see her again. " Plus, I only got turned because the queen drunk my blood and I attempted to use my blood bond by stabbing myself." Kyoko could feel her eyes darkening to deep abyssal purple like they always did when she was frustrated, until she looked at the man she was addressing and all her pent up anger seemed to melt at his familiar face.
"Hey 'kuya, who's she?" A voice Kyoko didn't recognise, soft and lilting, but withholding an extreme amount of power. She could physically feel how powerful he was just from the way his voice carried. Another werewolf, with light brown hair and sage green eyes that twinkled in the moonlight.
"Remember how I told you I was in an arranged marriage? This is the girl I was set to be married to. She is my....dear friend, as well as the..." Byakuya hesitated, looking from her eyes to her fangs, before turning back the the brunette. "Well, I'm not sure, but I'm assuming the ex heir to the Kirigiri line: Kyoko Kirigiri."
"Ah. Nice to meet you, the name's Makoto, Makoto Naegi! A friend of my husband is a friend of mine!" At the shorter man's words, Byakuya blushed slightly and turned away from him. At this Kyoko smirked.
"OoOo~ you finally pulled, huh?" The light tease brought a sense of familiarity to them both, and the bespectacled blonde smirked, to respond with:
"Ha- from what I've observed, so have you, we all know you wouldn't be caught dead shopping unless someone dragged you here."
"That would be me." Celeste walked out of the changing room in her usual attire- just as Kyoko knew she would- and her melodious voice joined the conversation seamlessly.
"Running into each other like this must be fate! We can't separate now!" Makoto exclaimed, to be met with 3 pairs of rolling eyes, and, after a moment, an eventual sigh of resignation from all three.
The rest of the day was spent traipsing around the shopping district, Makoto and Celeste leading the ex hunters to wherever caught their eye.
The two realized something, as they felt the warm hold of their respective spouses.
Kyoko hadn't felt this happy in years.
Neither had Byakuya.
