Chapter 1: prologue 1/3
Chapter Text
August 18, 1988
Six stood there, watching as the way back to his home world slowly closed with Rachel while he held his sleeping son. He looked at the TV, then at his son Adam, who was sleeping soundly, unaware of what had happened to his mother, Lynn, who was dead because of him. He heard the way back home closing, leaving him, Rachel, and his son at the mercy of the humans. "I thought that could have gone better," Rachel said, annoyed. He looked at her, his eye slightly twitching. "How do you think I should handle it?" he asked her. "Well, I thought you could have explained it better, six!" Rachel responded, walking away from him. He continued to stare at the TV, hoping it would reopen again. Maybe Rebekah or Nicolas convinced Gabriel to let them back, but it never opened back up. All he could do was stare at the black screen of the TV. "SIX! Come on! It's not safe here anymore!" Rachel yelled from downstairs. "Coming, Rach!" he yelled back, going downstairs where Rachel was waiting for him.
After hours, they ended up finding a small shack to stay at; it looked like it was about to rain, which was bad. Once they opened the door, they saw it was completely abandoned. There were holes in the roof, causing water to leak through, and they also saw some small creatures running around. "Are we staying here?" Rachel asked. "We have to! We can't stay out here; we'll be spotted," Six explained. Rachel sighed in annoyance. She turned on the light and looked around the shack. There was nothing but boxes filled with pictures, old clothes, shoes, and a bunch of other human belongings. Rachel dug through the boxes, trying to find something nice to steal, such as a nice necklace or a nice ring. "Why did you do that?" he asked her after she found something she liked. "Do what?" she responded, holding something in her arms. "Why did you stand up to him?" he asked again. She turned her head towards him, giving him her attention. "I had to! Nicolas or Rebekah would do nothing, so I had to," she responded. "Anyway, here! A blanket; Adam needs it!" Rachel said, passing it to him. Six quickly grabbed it and wrapped it around Adam; he didn't want his son to become cold.
Six sat down so that he could rest his legs as Rachel looked for more stuff to steal. He looked down, resting his head against the wall, watching Adam. He laughed to himself quietly. Adam was a heavy sleeper, just like him. Adam had blonde hair, just like his mother. He also had blue eyes, just like his current host, his first and only victim. Jude Murray was an orphan and had no parents, no siblings, no one. He was honestly a perfect target; he knew no one would ever miss him. After stalking him for months, he went to the alleyway by the man's workplace and mimicked a cat. Jude walked down the alley to help the poor 'cat', and when the man came close enough, he immediately attacked him, slamming his head with a large hammer and killing him. After a few more minutes to make sure he was dead, he possessed his dead body, completely replacing the orphan man. Anyone wouldn't miss this man. He smiled to himself, happy that he finally got a host and formed. That smile quickly disappeared when he got back to the man's apartment and found out that the man had gotten a human woman named Lynn pregnant. He didn't know the human was engaging in courtship or had fallen in love with her. So he kept up the act of pretending to be Judas Murray to help her raise the human man's child and to turn him into an alternate. He only got halfway done when Gabriel found out he had fathered a child with a human woman.
The next morning, Rachel awakened him by throwing him some clothes. "You better change! We're looking for a house; I'm not staying here and risk getting burned by the water." Rachel said. He just realized she was in her human form; she looked like the same human that she killed. Her skin was dark, but that was normal since there were some dark-skinned humans around here. Her hair was no longer covered; it was actually quite long, reaching past her shoulders. She was wearing green pants, a shirt with a 'Metallica' logo, and her old nun's outfit in a duffle bag. "While you were sleeping, I found an abandoned house; it used to belong to a wealthy family who left it behind." Rachel said. He quickly handed Adam to Rachel, who went outside to check the area and make sure there were no other alternates or humans who were trying to find them and his son. He quickly changed into the clothes Rachel threw at him. Now wearing a shirt with a logo called 'Green Day' and pants, he stuffs his old clothes in a bag that he found. Following Rachel outside, he quickly changed into his human form; his skin was much lighter, his hair was black, and he had gray eyes. Once he stepped out, he saw Adam was awake, but he wasn't crying or screaming; he was staring while Rachel was gently cooing to him. He walked over and saw that his son had some unusual features, such as horns; his skin had black spots on his face; and he also had a tail. "Hello, little Adam!" she gently cooed, and he giggled back a bit, reaching his hand towards her. She smiled a bit, booping him on the nose. "I can't believe you actually made this!" Rachel said, grinning at him. "So, where's the house?" He asked. "Just follow me! It's not that far." She said this, readjusting Adam in her arms. Adam saw him, but instead of fearing him, his son just kept looking at him, not showing fear or whatever humans are supposed to feel about them; he was just full of fascination and wonder, reaching for him with his small hands.
After hours of walking through the woods near Mandela, Rachel had brought him to a house, which was almost in the middle of nowhere, with the nearest neighbor being 40 minutes away. "This is okay," he said, looking at the house. "I also thought so. If we are going to live here, we have to act like a normal human family. Adam needs a normal family," she said. They opened the door, and it was completely empty, without a single sign of life. "There is also another exiled alternate here. I was friends with them before they were exiled from our home world. They should be around here, somewhere." Rachel said, entering the house. Adam looked around the house with his big blue eyes. "Don't worry, my child! This will be your new home!" she said. Six sat down, resting his feet on the coffee table, finally glad that they had a place to stay without getting spotted or burned. Rachel handed him his son back, stretching her arms out and hearing her bones pop. "I'm going to see if there's any food around," Rachel said, walking towards the kitchen.
Six felt something climbing onto his shoulder, which caused him to jump. He looked and saw a huge black cat, like they were the size of a tiger cub, with big yellow eyes. "Ummm..." Six quickly pushed it off of him and held his son away from them to protect him, just in case this thing had any plans to attack. "Rachel! There's a strange cat here; it looks extremely fucking weird!" He yelled, which caused the woman to poke her head out of the kitchen. She looked at him, then at the cat. "Oh! That's just a cat! Don't mind them; they are the alternates of this house and area, since the Torres' family abandoned it!" Rachel said before turning back to the kitchen. "Oh..." He looked at them. Not only was it a lot bigger than a normal cat, they also had two tails. He also just realized that the cat has over two eyes; it has other eyes around their body and much larger teeth. "Hello there, cat." He said, reaching out his hand to it. The cat immediately rubbed up against his hand, purring like a normal cat would. He looked at Rachel, who was grinning at him, then at the cat, who was making eye contact with him. He then looked at his son, who was reaching out towards the cat. "Maybe this won't be bad after all." He sat his son down on the couch with the cat. Cat immediately sniffed his son out of curiosity, while Adam just giggled, clapping his hands. The cat rubbed up against Adam, purring affectionately. "Perhaps Adam is safe here!" He thought to himself.

Chapter 2: prologue 2/3: HIM
Chapter Text
19 years later.
7/24/2007
Adam opened his blue eyes and saw the familiar roof of his room, with the ceiling fan on like always, feeling the cool air on his sweaty skin. He got up, rubbing his eyes and looking around. He looked down and saw Cat, his trusty companion, who was currently sleeping at the foot of the bed. He could hear it purring quietly. He got off the bed, stretching his bones out. "Meow?" He looked down and saw cat who was looking at him, stretching their body out and hearing their bones crack. "Good morning, Cat. "Are Dad and Rachel downstairs?" He asked. The cat nodded, jumping off the bed and walking towards the door. They clawed at the door, as if they were asking him to follow and hurry. "Yeah, yeah, just let me get ready!" He said, shooing them away. He grabbed a black shirt and a pair of brown jeans, matching his reality. You see, Adam was the son of a human woman named Lynn Smith and an alternate named Six. He had never known his mother; he can barely remember her. All he could remember, based on the photos he had gathered, is that she probably had blonde hair just like him, since his father didn't have blonde hair; he had black hair and blue eyes. He was raised by his father and a female alternate named Rachel, along with a cat who was the main alternate of this house and territory. Cat was a very nice alternate; sure, they act like a typical cat, such as stealing their food when they aren't looking, sleeping on their clothes, demanding pets, or just being a lazy house cat. But they alert his dad and Rachel when there's an unwanted alternate or humans in the area, stealing new stuff for Adam, such as board games, clothes, shoes, socks, and a hoodie. Overall, Cat was a cool alternate to live with, even though all they do is sleep, eat, and shit on the front porch.
After getting ready, he walked downstairs and saw his father sleeping on the couch, while Rachel, his father's best friend, was reading a random book that she probably stole from a nearby store. "Morning, Adam!" she said, looking up from her book and then looking back down at it. "Morning Rach! Good morning, Dad," he said as Cat jumped onto the coffee table and hit their paws against his father's face, causing him to wake up and sit up, looking around. "Meow!" Cat said to him. "Yeah, yeah! Good morning, Cat," he said, pushing Cat away from him. "Ahhh, Adam, my kid! You're up early!" his father said, waving at him, which caused him to roll his eyes in annoyance. Six only laughed and grinned at his son. "Oh, come on! You can't greet your old man properly!" he asked. "Nah! I just want to eat something," he said, grabbing an apple and eating it. "Six, we need to head into Bythorne today. We have to scout out stores to steal from!" Rachel said, looking up from her book. "Okay, let me just change my form!" he said, laying back down on the couch. Adam looked at his father. Sometimes he feels ashamed that this man is his father. He knew that this wasn't the normal life a 19-year-old man should have. Heck, he has never been outside of their territory. It was too dangerous since his father had pissed off a lot of alternates outside of their territory. So going out as the son of an exiled alternate was not a good idea. "When are you going out?" he asked. "Soon! If you are going out of the house, don't go further past the payphone. That's where our territory ends," Rachel warned. "Yeah, yeah, yeah, you've told me that thousands of times," Adam said, tossing his apple around and rolling his eyes.
Six slowly transformed into his human disguise. He felt his old bones moving around, his flesh slowly conforming to his skin, his tone becoming more and more pink and human-like, while his son cringed at the sight of flesh and bones moving around on their own, while Six let out some hisses of pain and gritted his teeth together. "Adam! We are leaving now. Cat is in charge; please make sure they are well fed and have some snacks just in case they get into another fight with other Alternates." Rachel said, opening the door. "Yeah, yeah, I'll just stay here!" Adam responded, rolling his eyes. "We'll be back in an hour. Remember, if you are going out of the house, don't go past the payphone!" Six said this to his son, who sat down on the couch. "Whatever! You told me that thousands of times, and I have never gone out past the payphone!" Adam said. Cat appeared out of nowhere, stretching out their bones. They climbed onto the couch and took their seat on Adam's shoulder, purring happily. Six closed the door and locked it behind them, then they both walked towards town.
They live in a remote part of Bythorne County, which is very close to Mandela County, very lonely and isolated, but unlike Mandela County, it was very close to the city. Many of the alternates around here act like animals and are extremely feral, so they have to be extremely careful not to accidentally step into their territory or else they could get attacked. "You know that's not normal for a boy like him!" Rachel said after a long silence. "You know, after everything we have been through, I think you are right! Adam shouldn't be living like this. He needs to go out on his own by now," Six responded. "I'm glad that you are finally agreeing with me," Rachel said. "I hope we could finally allow him to be on his own soon!" Six said. They made it to the main town of Bythorne County, which was completely quiet. There were only a handful of humans outside, and they all seemed to be afraid of him and his species. Everywhere Six could sense their fear; everywhere he could see the fear in their eyes, which made him feel so strange. It made him sick. But he tried to keep his composure, and he could tell Rachel was also trying to keep herself composed as well.
They entered a small store; the store was full of chairs, tables, picture frames, lamps, pots, pans, and other stuff. Which was not all that impressive. Six wanted more pillows for his back; despite what humans may think, they could age; sometimes their bones become weak and frail. He started to feel some of his bones becoming frail, causing him to feel a lot of pain. "Hey, Judas, my friend, look, what do you think?" Rachel said, holding up a pillow. "NAH! I need something that covers my whole back!" Six, aka known as Judas, respond. "Okay, okay, my friend." Rachel said placing the pillow back where it was.
He sighs as Rachel walks away from him to spot some beautiful jewelry and clothes. So that she could steal tonight, she always went to the more risky options. He didn't like when she stole more of the nicer objects because they could get caught stealing. But she always argues that she loves the more luxury objects. He walked around the store, only hearing the whispers of the townspeople. The few people that were here were quietly whispering to themselves about everyday normal stuff like bills, work, new government regulations, school, or just gossiping about the rumors. "Do YOU really think the things from the broadcast are everywhere? Watching, waiting for us to drop our guard!" One woman whispered to her brother. "Yes! You saw what happened to the Torres' and the Heathcliff's sons?! They killed one, while it's rumored that one of them got kidnapped and taken for its own pleasure." Her brother whispered back. "What! You mean the kidnapped boy from Mandela County?! Brother! Why did you mention such a crime? I heard he was violently taken from his house, and there was nothing left of him but his blood, gun, and video camera, which recorded his kidnapping." She said. Their voices were full of paranoia and urgency, looking around at the store, seeing who was watching them, and eavesdropping on their conversation. "Oh, come on, my sister! You know what happened to him? He was just taken as if he were a bride given to the thing by his uncle or father!" Her brother whispered back. He walked away from that conversation, knowing about his full involvement in how he helped that one alternate and human hybrid to kidnap the Heathcliff boy to be his new mate or, in human words, his new husband.
As he was spotting some objects to steal, he passed by two workers who were whispering to each other. "So, what's the organization called again? I think my parents need it!" The worker said barely above a whisper to his co-worker. "I think it's called the Bythorne... something... society. Yeah! Bythorne paranormal society! But I can't remember the names of the two people who came to my parent's house," he responded. "What do you mean you don't remember their names?" His coworker said, almost laughing at him. "Sorry! It's not my fault they are wanted by the MPD and the FBI!" He responded to his coworker. He pulled out a paper, pulling it close to his face. "I think their names are Jonah Marshall and Sarah... Heathcliff! Yeah, Sarah Heathcliff was her name." He said. "The daughter of Jane Heathcliff, the mother of that missing boy from Mandela County." That last name made him stop, now fully eavesdropping on their conversation. "Yeah, apparently, her daughter is trying to find her son, but hey, seventeen years have passed and there's not a single trace of him." He said, leaning against the counter, pulling out a cigarette and lighting it. "But hey, they're really cheap and help me and my parents understand the difference between a haunted and an alternate invasion and how to prevent it." Six immediately walked away after the conversation ended, keeping the Bythorne Paranormal Society in the back of his head.
Rachel waited for Six, hanging around the entrance. She didn't want her life to be like this; she always thought she would be higher up in Heaven's hierarchy; she imagined she had her own army, her own everything, but here she was all because she defended her friend and his son. Six finally started to walk up to her, with thankfully nothing in hand. "Okay, ma, you too gave a good one!" He said to the store clerks. "Come along now! I want to rest my bones!" She said to him. They started to walk towards the house; she hoped the cat didn't get into another fight with another alternate or Adam getting spotted by an alternate or a human. Once they made it out of town, she immediately knew that he had stolen something. "Six! My friend, what did you do?" She said, after entering their territory. He immediately grinned, pulling out a beautiful necklace of amethyst. "I saw you looking at it, so I got it!" He said, handing it to her. "Oh," she looked at the crystals and the gold; she quickly took it, taking a good long look at it. "It is beautiful, my dear friend!" Rachel said. She immediately put it on, "Let's go home; hopefully Adam doesn't..." She was cut off as Six looked around as if he heard HIM, then she heard it a laugh, a very horrifying and familiar laugh, ringing throughout her ear. She looked at him, her face completely horrified. "Do you think it's..." "Yes! It's... Him.."
Adam was lying on the couch with Cat resting on his shoulder when he heard it—a laugh coming from somewhere nearby. Startled, Adam immediately got up, quickly grabbing a metal pipe that he always kept within reach. He walked around, lifting the pipe high as if he were ready to confront the intruder who had likely broken into the house. Cat followed closely behind him, attempting to protect him from the perceived threat that had entered their territory; their backs arched, resembling a typical house cat. "Don't worry, kitty. If something happens, we can drive them out of the house and reclaim our territory," Adam reassured Cat. He found himself at the back door, feeling confused until he heard the laugh again. Suddenly, Cat began to hiss and growl at the door, even swatting at it. "What's going on, Cat?" he asked. Cat responded only with a sharp growl, not taking their eyes off the door. Adam peeked out of the window, trying to see who they were growling at. By the edge of the woods, he spotted a tall gray figure dressed in a white tunic that reached past his ankles, emanating a bright light. The figure had long golden hair that cascaded past his shoulders and wore a wide grin that stretched from ear to ear, staring directly at him. Adam opened the door, trying to get a better look. "Hey buddy! I think you're lost. You'd better leave, or else," Adam warned, lifting the pipe and pointing it directly at him. Cat bolted outside, hissing and growling, their backs arched, revealing sharp teeth in a display of aggression. "Hey buddy, you're scaring my cat. Leave!" Adam shouted, struggling to maintain his composure. The man laughed, sending a chill down Adam's spine. He stepped back, suddenly feeling that he had made a grave mistake. Just then, he felt a hand grip his shoulder and throw him backward into the house. "Adam! Oh my goodness!" Rachel exclaimed, supporting him by his shoulder. "Rachel... how... where is..." he began, but was cut off when his father stormed out, slamming the door shut behind him.
Six shut the door behind him. He felt his horns growing on his head and his teeth sharpen at the sight of Gabriel, the fallen one, the one who took the real shepherd's place. "Lucifer!" Six yelled the false God's real name, which caused his grinned to fade quickly; the angel's face contorted in anger by his real name being yelled at. "You're not welcome here!" Six yelled. The angel responded with laughter at the demon's anger. "Leave! You already exiled me, Rachel, and Cat." Six shouted at him. He only laughed in response to the sight of the demon's anger. He disappeared in a bright light, which blinded him and Cat for a moment. He looked around, trying to find him. "Where are you? Show yourself, you fucking false shepherd!" He only heard a loud laugh. "Oh, it's your son; you shouldn't be worrying about! It's someone else who should be worried!" That was the last thing he heard from the fallen angel before the laughter stopped, and it was all quiet. Six looked around; he looked at the door where Rachel and his son were currently at, while Cat was hissing and growling by his feet. He immediately went inside and saw Rachel and his son talking to each other. "Adam!" Six said, getting his son's attention and ending his conversation with Rachel. "Listen closely, please! What did that man tell you?" He asked. "Nothing; I just opened the door and saw him; he just laughed at me and Cat." Adam responded, shrugging. "We need to talk!" Rachel chirped up; she looked at Adam and said, "All of us! We all live here; we need to prepare if or when Gabriel attacks!" Rachel added, looking at the Alternates in her clan.
This was the first meeting that Adam could attend; in the past, when they had these kinds of meetings, he was always sent to bed. "Rachel, should he be here?" His father asked. "He's old enough; besides, he lives here! His opinion is needed!" Rachel said. His father sighed, while Cat got comfortable on the table. "Why would Gabriel show up now?" His father asked. "That man... is Gabriel?" Adam asked. The two Alternates looked at Adam as Cat opened one of their eyes and immediately closed it, deciding that it's best to pretend to sleep. "The one I always heard you talking about!" Adam added. They both looked at each other, then at Adam; this time, Cat opened both of their eyes to pay attention. "Unfortunately, yes!" Rachel confirmed. "That's him; why does he look so angelic? Like how angels are usually portrayals?" Adam asked. "Ummm, actually, that's his fake name, an identity he took to mock his twin brother," his father said, leaning backwards against his chair. "His real name is Lucifer, the fallen one, the first demon, the one who betrayed his father, brothers, and sisters!" Rachel added. "Why now? Why appears now after 19 years?" He asked. "I'm not sure, but if I have to guess..." Adam saw the gears in his father's head turn, standing up and digging through his pockets. "Bythorne something society..." His father interrupted, continuing digging through his pockets for something. He pulled out a paper, unfolding it and placing it on the table. "Bythorne paranormal society...?" Rachel said. His father pulled two other folded papers, revealing a young man and girl about his age of 18-20. "Jonah Marshall and Sarah Heathcliff!" The last name of the girl caused Rachel to frown, knowing what happened to the Heathcliff boy. "The FBI wanted the two people who founded this organization," his father said, gesturing at them. "I have a feeling that several people in high places are now Alternates." Rachel added, looking at the two young people.
After the meeting was done, he went to his room to rest his bones, trying to understand what was going on. He was currently lying down on the floor after stuffing things in his backpack. There are two kids about his age running around, chasing his species. This makes Adam think, could he find them and watch over them, like the angels he heard about in legends? He heard a knock on the door, causing him to look up and see his father leaning into his room. "Hey dad, do you need something?" he asked. "What are you thinking?" his father asked. Adam shrugged as Cat rubbed against his face. Six looked at the backpack that was hiding underneath Adam's feet and immediately knew what his son was going to do. "Are you leaving to find them?" Six asked. "I'm not." Adam responded, kicking his backpack underneath his bed. Six sighed in annoyance, feeling a sharp pain in his lower back. "If you're going to go looking for them, please try to keep Rachel and me informed about their activities," Six said, leaving him to his thoughts. Adam immediately got up, grabbed his backpack, opened the window, and crawled out onto the roof. Now he was standing on the roof. He wrote a note to Rachel, his dad, and Cat, explaining where he was and not to worry. He left it on the window and climbed off, walking towards town for the very first time in 19 years.

Chapter Text
Human civilization is extremely bright and active, Adam thought. They had bright lanterns and Christmas lights everywhere, which is making him uncomfortable. He didn't understand why humans needed these. Adam thought as he entered a small human community called Baythorne County. He looked around, hearing them talk, and whispered amongst themselves. He could hear their conversations, their gossip, their rumors, and their lives. Now that he was thinking of it, he could smell their happiness, their sadness, their anger, and their fear—the fear of something pretending to be human. He sighs and pulls up his hood, hiding his face, continuing to walk down the sidewalk, the fresh summer air blowing through his blonde hair. He saw a few older people gossiping to each other, something about a teenager from another human civilization called Mandela County going missing and blaming his 'friend' for his disappearance. Adam continued walking, deciding to ignore them. Maybe that information wasn't important. He overheard another conversation about a woman and her baby being killed by her ex-boyfriend. He continued to walk, thinking that maybe that information wasn't important. Adam saw two uniformed officers. He knew what police looked like because his father and Rachel had taught him what to do when he saw them. So, he just avoided eye contact. They couldn't be trusted. He felt his stomach start to growl, so he pulled out his wallet. As he opened it, he raised an eyebrow. There was about $333 in it, along with a small folded note sticking out. He unfolded it and saw that it was from his father.
"You're going to need it," from Dad.
Adam smiled to himself, putting the note in his pocket. He walked into the store wanting to buy something—maybe some food or supplies for himself. He bought bread, bologna, cheese, and chips and carried them to a woman who was behind a desk. "Hello there, my name is Amanda. How are you?" she asked, smiling at him. Adam shrugged in response, not knowing how to talk to a human woman. As she was checking his items, he saw something called Sprite, a clear liquid in a bottle. He grabbed it and placed it on the counter. "So where are you heading?" she asked. "I'm not sure," he responded. She shrugged and bagged up his paid items. "And your total is $8.34," she said. He handed her a $10 and got back $1.66. "Have a nice day," she said as he left the store.
He saw two police officers sitting on the hood of their car. One of them was an average-height black woman with green eyes and long black hair tied in a ponytail. She was wearing the familiar police uniform that he always saw when Rachel and his father taught him who to trust and who not to trust. Her name tag reads “Ruth Weaver.” The other officer was a tall, thin white man with green eyes and light blonde hair tied in a low ponytail. His name tag read 'Thatcher Davis." He didn't make any eye contact; he learned that would make him suspicious. He sat on a bench and began making his sandwich, but he couldn't help but listen to their conversation. "So, why are we here again?" Ruth asked. "You said I needed a break, so I'm taking one!" Thatcher replied. He saw Ruth laugh and shake her head. "Yeah, I meant take me out, like to a puppet show, golfing, or even just a dinner hangout!" Ruth said as she ate her donut. "I don't want to go around Mandela; this town is quiet!" Thatcher said, taking a drink of a black liquid in a bottle called Dr. Pepper. The two sat together and talked about trivial matters such as bills, crime, other threats, or a new dress that Ruth had her eye on. He continued to eat, pretending not to listen to them.
"I also know the other reason you came here!" she said, suddenly changing the topic, her face turning serious. Thatcher nodded his head in agreement. "You used to bring him here to visit Steve's sister!" Ruth said. Thatcher nodded rather quietly, "Yeah! Susannah will always be careful to see him!" Thatcher said Adam could see a small smile form, but he could smell something that wasn't happy. This is the grief of losing a loved one. "That's the store you used to bring him to when he was about 5-6 years old, remember?" Ruth said, pointing to the store that he was in earlier. "He would always want to touch the radio, talking to the other officers through it!" Thatcher said, laughing slightly, chewing down on a donut. "Remember when Dave was fixing the TVs, he would try to help, but Dave would explain that he couldn't because he could get shock!" Ruth said. Adam saw tears in their eyes; he felt that Thatcher had definitely lost someone close to him. "Today would have been his 33rd birthday." Thatcher said, his voice breaking into tears. He quickly covered his face with his arm. Ruth pulled him into a hug, while Adam continued to pretend that he wasn't listening to their conversation. He could sense the loss of him losing a child; maybe he lost his little brother, a son, or his nephew. After finishing his sandwich, he left them to their grief. He quietly left, not noticing him.
After walking around in town for about an hour or two, he realized he couldn't find BPS or their headquarters. Hell, he didn't know what he was doing? Or where to go? He couldn't ask because it could reach the police, and he had no idea what to say to them or what to give them. He saw an alleyway, which caught his eye. He looked and saw some humans who were drinking or smoking. He walked down the alleyway; maybe he could find them here. He kept his head down, trying not to attract attention. Adam saw a few guys talking to each other; they were drinking. Due to the way they walked, he noticed there were a bunch of glass bottles. They were a lot more muscular than him, so he just kept looking down. As he kept walking, he accidentally bumped into one of the men. "Keep walking, punk, or else I'll pop you in your fucking mouth!" he threatened. Adam simply kept walking, deciding not to get into a fight. "Yeah! Pretty boy! Keep walking!" the other guy sneered at him. He let out a sharp growl, feeling half of his face darken, but he just kept his mouth closed.
After getting far away from the drunken men, he saw a young man about his age smoking up a storm. Maybe he could help. But as he approached him, Adam realized he looked familiar, as if he had seen him before. "Hey!" he called out to the dude, looking at him and raising an eyebrow. "Can I help you with something, man?" he asked. Adam stopped, inspecting him, and then at the wanted poster of one of the founders, a man named Jonah Marshall. Then he looked at the man, finally making a connection. "Are you Jonah Marshall? From Bythorne Paranormal Society!" Adam asked, showing the flyer to him. The dude smirked and laughed, holding his hands up. "Okay, okay, okay! Fine, I'm Jonah! You caught me? Are you part of the MPD?" he asked, almost laughing. "Umm... No?" Adam looked at him and replied. "Ummm... The FBI..." Jonah guessed again. "No!" Adam said, looking at him completely confused. "Oh!" Jonah said, taking a drag from his cigarette before blowing out the smoke. "Then what do you want?" Jonah asked, raising an eyebrow. "I just want to know if there's a position for me. I'm well experienced in tracking and observing alternates!" Adam lied; only half of it was true. Jonah took one good look at him and laughed, shaking his head in response. "Nah, me, Sarah, and Evelyn don't need anyone else. Besides, we have enough people who are already aiding us!" Jonah said, taking another drag of his cigarette. "Beside, I think you don't have the guts to survive what I have seen." Jonah joked, taking another drag from his cigarette. Adam growled in annoyance, walking away from Jonah. He had just wasted his day and left the safety of his home, just to get rejected.
Adam walked away from Jonah, still pissed off at being rejected from joining his group, and walked back home. He felt his horns growing on top of his head, highlighting his anger. He accidentally bumped into one of those drunks again. "Hey! You wanna fight, boy?" the taller man yelled. This caused Adam to turn around, looking at them. "How about you all go fuck yourselves!" Adam growled out. One man laughed at him, while the others just sneered at him. He walked over to them, his hands curled up into fists, looking at all of them. He felt his alternate side coming out of him a little, such as half of his face darkening and his teeth sharpening. They immediately dropped their drinks and ran away from him. After they left, he groaned, feeling that side of him re-entering his body. He took a deep breath, feeling around, feeling the smoothness of his skin. He turned around and saw Jonah Marshall stomping his cigarette out on the ground. Thanks for putting them in their place for once! They are assholes!" Jonah said. "I could tell!" Adam retorted annoyingly. He noticed that his right hand was still in alternate form, so he quickly hid his hand in his hoodie pocket. "Y'know what? Forget what I said earlier; I think Sarah would like to have you around."

Chapter 4: Eyes
Summary:
Sorry, for the short chapter, but a lot of these will be short.
Chapter Text
8 months later.
3/25/2008.
Jonah noticed how creepy Adam was when he was alone with him; he had a varied-putting look, like a psycho would have. Sure, Adam was a nice enough guy, helping when needed, like loading stuff in vans and stealing money from stores around town, which is bad, but some people needed it more. He didn't creep out any of the girls here; in fact, some of them think he's a hottie, nor did he ever do anything to cause alarm—to say he's a psycho killer on the lose. He was just a normal 19-year-old guy who lived in a world full of alternates. He was leaning against the van, smoking a cigarette and blowing out smoke into the air. "Jonah? Do you have everything?" Sarah asked as she poked her head out of the van. "Yeah, we do!" he responded as Adam walked up to the van and hopped into the driver's seat. "Yo! Jonah, come on, we have a job to do!" Adam yelled. Sarah moved out of the way as Jonah hopped into the passenger seat of the van. "Bye boys stay safe!" Sarah yelled, waving goodbye.
When he opened his eyes again, he heard someone banging on the car window, which caused him to jump up and rub his eyes, trying to shake off any sleep. He saw Adam giving him an annoyed look while the homeowners walked inside of their house. Adam loaded their equipment into the car and tossed the keys at Jonah. "You drive, since you got more sleep!" Adam growled. "Geez, sorry!" Jonah mumbled as Adam crawled into the backseat and laid down. "Wake me up when we get to Bythorne!" Adam said, yawning. Jonah got into the driver's seat and started the car, driving towards Bythorne. Jonah looked at Adam; he looked so peaceful, but it was also too weird. His eyelids looked too off; the way they were closed was too unreal, like someone was pretending to sleep. He could swear that he could see Adam's eyes, even though they were closed. Now that he was thinking about it, Adam's eyes looked faked and uncanny. They were deep blue, like the ocean—deep and dark. Jonah hated the ocean; he was completely scared of it. Looking into Adam's eyes always creeped him out. There was something not right about Adam in general, but maybe it's just him.
Sarah knew that the moment she met Adam, she immediately knew that something wasn't right with him. Jonah just brought him to her, explaining how he managed to intimidate some thugs in an alleyway. Sarah only hired him because they were lacking people who were willing to do the investigation, but he was eager to get a job, so she hired him. She decided if this guy creeps her out, then she'll keep an eye on him if he's a creep towards any of the women in here, but to her shock, some of the women don't think he's a creep; in fact, it's the exact opposite: some of them think he's cute. Some of the men think he's just a normal guy who's helpful, especially with some of the heavy lifting. In the past 8 months, Adam was taking jobs, fixing cars, preventing Jonah from smoking himself into a stoned wall, or loading stuff into the van. But there's one thing off about him that she realizes she can't ignore anymore: Adam's eyes. His eyes were honestly so beautiful; in fact, Adam was a very beautiful man in general; she could tell he could easily get a girl. His eyes, however, were creepy; they were deep blue, like the deep, dark blue eyes of the ocean. Sarah could swear they looked almost doll-like; they never showed any emotion. She saw Adam laughing at one of Jonah's jokes; Adam's eyes never reflected joy or happiness; they just showed a deep, dark blue void. Should she bring it up to Jonah or Evelyn, that something isn't right with him, or maybe she should be happy that she finally has a new person to help with the investigation; she couldn't do it alone, not after what happened to her brother.
Chapter 5: Not a dog fan?
Summary:
Adam and dogs don't mix will.
Notes:
Don't worry, nothing bad happens to the dogs or they cats.
Chapter Text
Jonah had a pet dog. She is the only family that he has left; he hadn't talked to his parents for over a year. Her name is Laika; she was named after the first dog in space. She is a one-year-old Yorkshire Terrier. She is an extremely hyper dog; she is very playful and constantly wants to play. Some of the other members would give her some of their leftover bacon, and she would eagerly take it. But as soon as Adam came through that door, she had completely changed. Whenever he went around her, she would go from whining to growling and barking at him. Jonah also noticed that she would sit on his feet growling at him, as if she could sense something was off with him. The first time she met him. She kept whining and hiding underneath the table as if she saw a ghost. As the weeks went on, if Adam went near her, Laika would whine, running away from him. Jonah brushed it off at first. He thought it was because she didn't know who Adam was. But as the weeks went on, Laika growled. After four months of Adam being hired, her eyes would become wild and crazy. She would sit on his feet, growling and barking. Jonah again thought it was nothing, just Laika not trusting him. She had been a pretty shy dog even before he came to BPS, but now she is more aggressive, especially towards Adam. He tried to train her again; maybe she was acting out because of the new change. However, even after that, she still growled and barked at him. Adam didn't seem to mind; he just walked away from her, looking at her with complete disgust and annoyance at the dog, his face almost darkened. One day during a meeting, as soon as Adam entered the room, Laika immediately started growling and barking at him, jumping at him, trying to bite him. Sarah stopped talking, looking at Laika. Adam looked down, almost looking disgusted at the dog. "Do you mind controlling your damn mutt?" Adam asked. "Yeah, yeah," Jonah picked her up and took her out of the room. He sat her down in his room, petting her. He didn't understand why she would act like this unless Adam wasn't a real human. He's an alternate who's a spy, but that is too far-fetched to even suggest.
Sarah was writing in her journal when one of her cats walked over to her and brushed his head up against her. "Marko! Stop!" she said, pushing him away and putting him on the other side of her work desk, where he had previously been. Marko is a 3-year-old male calico cat; his fur color is a mix of black, orange, and some white, causing his fur to look like someone was trying to draw a cat from memory. She adopted him when she was 18; he was a skinny and wet kitten she found on her way back home from school. She brought him home, hoping that he would live to the next day. She had to bottle-feed him until he was strong enough to walk, and ever since that day, he never left her side. He walked over to her again, purring happily, and flopped onto his side, waiting for her to give him attention, rubbing against her arm. "Marko, go play with your sisters and brother!" she said, petting his ear. This moment somehow got her thinking about her parents and uncles. Do they think she's okay? Do they ever wonder what happened to her? Are they still looking for her? If they find her, what will be their reactions when they find out that she started an organization that's dedicated to proving and researching alternates? The same things that did something that caused her brother to disappear into thin air. She wonders if her brother was still here. Would he help her in her cause, or would he refuse to join her but help her from afar, or would he disown her on the spot? She looked at her cat, Marko, who looked back at her, blinking and meowing. "Okay, I guess you could stay here!" Sarah said, finally giving in. She went back to writing on the most recent report. They knew more about Alternates than even the government and the police did. Now, she knows more about alternates and what they possibly did to her brother. She walked over to the writing board and looked at it, along with some tapes. She hesitated a bit about playing it, knowing that what she heard made her sick. She looked at the VHS player, then at the tape. Should she play it? Should she find out more about what they did to her brother? She almost gave in and played it until Adam walked in.
"Yo, Sarah!" Adam said, poking his head into her office. "Yeah?" She answered, looking up, quickly hiding the tape. "Jonah and I are about to leave! We are going to a house in uptown Madison!" Adam explained. "Does he want me to pet sit Laika?" She asked. "Yeah, I think his mutt is in his room!" He said. Marko walked up to him, purring happily. Adam quickly petted his head, which caused her cat to flop onto his side, meowing and purring; it caused her to grin a bit, almost laughing. "I guess you're not a dog fan?" Sarah joked, laughing. "Yeah, just tell Jonah to keep his mutt under control," he growled, rolling his eyes. He slammed the door, walking away towards the van. "Man, he really hates dogs!" She thought. After getting Jonah's dog from his room, she excitedly ran over to her cats: Marko, Mango (a 9-month-old orange female kitten), Luna (Mango's twin sister and a white female kitten), and Loki (her youngest cat, a 6-month-old tabby). She played with the cats, wagging her tail happily. Before Adam came, she used to be quite playful but extremely shy. That changed after Adam came to work here. Maybe he really hates dogs, and they don't always get along with them.
After a two-hour drive, Adam and Jonah finally reached uptown Madison. They got a call from a young woman with an infant. She wanted to make sure that her house is secure for her infant; her husband is apparently deployed overseas, and she doesn't feel safe. Once they got to the house, a huge Rottweiler greeted them, wagging his tail happily. "Oh, what's your name?" Jonah asked, walking up to the house. "His name is Lukas. Don't worry, he doesn't bite," the owner said, walking out of her house and holding her new baby daughter. "Hello! My name is Jonah, and this is Adam. We are from BPS!" Jonah greeted. "Hi, my name is Janet, and this is Millie!" Janet responded. "Do you mind if we come in?" Jonah asked her. "Of course! Come in, come in, come in!" she said, ushering them inside. Once Lukas saw Adam, the dog immediately stopped wagging his tail and let out a sharp growl at Adam, while Adam just rolled his eyes and walked away from the dog. "Okay, ma'am, are you going to stay here, or are you going to leave?" Jonah asked. "Oh yes, I'm leaving my house for the night. Do you mind if my dog stays, or do you want me to take him with me? I don't want him to be a problem during your investigation!" She asked. "Yeah, I think it's best for you to take him. I don't like dogs," Adam mumbled, glaring at Lukas. "Okay, I already booked a hotel nearby. They thankfully allowed pets," Janet said. Lukas got near his owner while making eye contact with Adam. "Thanks, like I said earlier. I don't like dogs," Adam says. "Oh, I'm sorry, but maybe one day you'll love dogs." Janet responded happily. She called out to her dog, and Lukas immediately went back to being too goofy and lovely, walking towards the door with his owner. "Thank God that mutt is gone." Adam mumbled.
"Let's set up the cameras and investigate the house. You're on van duty, and I'm on house duty!" Adam explained, gesturing around the house. The two boys went from room to room, setting up cameras in the living room, dining area, and two of the bedrooms; in two hallways; and a camera on Adam, and making sure they were connected to Jonah's laptop. "Are they all connected?" Adam asked. Jonah noticed how Adam seemed to look and see how the laptop works. "Yeah, they're working. Now, see you in the morning!" Jonah said, closing his laptop and getting up. He walked towards the door, opened it, and hopped in the van. Midnight came, and Jonah had been sitting here for three hours, waiting for something to happen. Then he got a silly idea that made him grin. "Hey Adam?" Jonah said through the walkie-talkie. "Jonah, what do you want?" Adam responded. "You're not a dog fan, are you?" Jonah asked, laughing. He saw on the camera Adam flipping him off, annoyed. Jonah laughed. He could get used to this.

Chapter 6: Adam's childhood. 1/4
Summary:
Adam's childhood.
Chapter Text
2 months after exiled.
October, 1988.
Six came to realize that maybe raising a child will be harder than he first thought. Why, you might ask? Well, it's because Adam's screaming and crying startled him, causing him to drop his third ice cream. He ran towards the room where Adam's crib was located. He swung the door wide open in a panic; his eyes scanned the darkness of the room. He could only see the crib, a few toys, and the locked window; he took a sigh of relief. He walked up towards Adam's crib. "Hey, hey, shh, shh, it's okay!" he said. "It's okay! Your papa is here!" He whispered, and Six gently picked him up, cradling him. Adam stopped crying, only sniffling quietly. "It's okay, my sweet boy! I'm here, and you are safe," Six said. He rocked Adam back and forth in his arms and continued to comfort him. "You're doing well, my old friend!" He turned around and saw Rachel and Cat. She had Adam's blanket in her arms, while Cat had a bottle in their mouth. "It was dirty, so I washed it," she said, walking up and giving him the blanket. He wrapped the blanket around his son, then gently put Adam back in his crib. "How did you even meet his mother?" Rachel asked, raising an eyebrow. "Um... It was after I took a host..." Six laughed awkwardly. Rachel looked at Adam, then at Six. "So biologically, he's related to you?" she asked. Six nodded in response, gently ruffling Adam's blonde hair, which caused Adam to coo happily. "Cat has a bottle; he might have been hungry. Relax; we've got it from here!" Rachel said, as Cat jumped into the crib and curled up next to Adam. "Okay Rachel, wake me up when he cries again," Six said, walking towards his spot on the couch.
4 years later, January, 1992.
Six was sleeping on the couch when he heard a scream coming from Adam's playpen, which he definitely didn't steal from a nearby store. He immediately got off of the couch, rushing towards his playpen, and saw that Adam was screaming and crying; his arm had turned completely black, and his hand had transformed into three large claws. 'Shit!' he thought as he picked up his son, trying to fix his arm. "Don't worry, little bean, I'm here!" he said. He used his power to reverse and heal his son's arm back to a human-looking arm. Adam stopped screaming and looked at his arm, then at his father. "See, there was no need to cry!" Six said, booping him on his nose. Adam continued to shake in fear of what had just happened to his body. "Papa, what happened?" Adam asked, barely above a whisper. Six didn't know how to explain to Adam that he could change his body at will and transform into his alternate form or how to explain that his alternate side had just kicked in. "Umm... You see... umm..." Six didn't know how to explain his shape-shifting abilities. He looked at Rachel and Cat. She was reading one book that she stole from a store while Cat was sleeping on her lap, purring. "Hey, Rach, Cat!" "No! Teach him yourself. I advise you to get some ice from the refrigerator! Judging by his cry, it's going to be painful," Rachel said, still not looking up from her book. "Thanks for nothing," he mumbled before grabbing a sandwich bag, filling it up with ice, and going to the living room without making eye contact with Rachel or Cat.
"Well, Adam, it appears that your powers have finally manifested," Six said while seating Adam on the ground of his playpen. So I think it's best to teach you right now how to control them before they can get out of hand." He clapped his hands together. He didn't know how to begin or how to explain it. He looked at Adam, noticing how much he closely resembled his mother. He has her blonde hair and a bright, beautiful smile. "You, umm... you can change some parts of your body," Six awkwardly explained. Adam looked up at him, confused. "You can switch from being normal like this." Six held up his hand as an example for Adam to see how his shape-shifting works, "to this!" Six turned his hand into a grey, pale, human-looking hand with five fingers and three sharp black claws. "See, this was your hand earlier. I don't think it would hurt," Six explained. He quickly took one of his son's hands and squeezed it, just in case Adam screamed in pain. Adam held up his left hand, trying to copy his father. Six immediately heard the sounds of bone cracking, but Adam didn't scream or cry. He just looked at his hand as his hands transformed into three black claws. "Wow, it looks like a dragon's claw!" Adam says, looking at his hand. He had a rather curious look; he moved around his hand, taking a good look at it. Six looked up and saw Rachel. She was apparently standing right behind him the entire time. "My lord, I can see his form is going to be more reptilian or possibly cat-like," Rachel said. "Nah! I think it's more bird-like, much like my own!" Six said, grinning, pointing at himself. "But we sadly don't know if he would even inherit yours or develop one on his own, because this has never happened!" Rachel said. "Auntie Rachel! Look! I'm a dragon," Adam said, lifting up his altered hand to act scarily. Rachel let out a giggle, ruffling Adam's blonde hair. "I know, Adam, you did a good job today!" she says, the edges of her face making a small smile.
Later that night.
Six was awakened to see Rachel sitting on the couch, while Cat was lying down on her lap, not so far from him. "What do you two want?" he asked. "Since Adam got his powers, I think it's best to start teaching him other things to survive in this world!" Rachel said, as Cat nodded their head in agreement. "What do you mean?" he asked, sitting up. Rachel gave him an annoyed look, while Cat swung their tail around. "Like teaching him how to provide for himself, because I just realized that maybe we won't always be here for him." Rachel finished as Cat looked up at him with their big yellow eyes. "Look, I'm teaching him how to control his power, which is important right now, but teaching him how to act human could be dangerous. What if he let him in one day?" Six said. "Yes, he does, Six; we need to! What if one day..." Rachel looked around, making sure no one was around to hear them. "What if HE shows up and decides to get rid of us!" Rachel said. Six looked at her. Does Adam really need to learn this? But yet again, humans do have to teach their offspring before they leave. "Look... maybe..." He was cut off by a window breaking near his son's room. Six immediately grabbed a baseball bat from underneath the couch, while Rachel's hands sharpened. Cat immediately ran upstairs, and the two of them followed. "Who is it?" Rachel asked. "I don't know, but if it's him! Get Adam, and run as far away from here as possible!" Six said. Once they reached the top of the stairs, Six saw that there was a broken window with glass scattered around, and Cat was growling and hissing into Adam's room. Six rushed towards the room with the bat still in hand, Rachel following behind him. Without hesitation, he turned on the light and found Rebekah and N hovering over his son, who was asleep.

Chapter 7: Adam and EVElyn, part 1/2
Chapter Text
7/24/2007.
The first time Evelyn saw Adam; she immediately found herself attracted to him. He appeared to be a handsome young man of about the same age, standing tall with his hair tucked away under a hoodie. She immediately looked away as she was working on something. He was immediately rushed into Sarah's office, who was currently working on some tapes that Jonah took. From what she heard from their conversation, Sarah was asking where he had heard about their organization, if he could handle alternates, and if he knew how to drive. Adam answered all the questions with flying colors, and he was hired the next day. She also realized how he was actually pretty cute. She was in love with his deep blue eyes; they reminded her of the ocean—deep, dark, and mysterious. But she kept her head down because he was totally out of her league. Plus, she was always out because she was also a spy. BPS had sent her to spy on the Mandela Police Department to see what Thatcher and the other officers were planning so that they could be several steps ahead of them.
As soon as Adam walked into BPS headquarters, he spotted Evelyn right away, even while Jonah continued to chatter about the building. She was wearing Capri pants and what looked like a little denim jean jacket. Jonah greeted her, and he learned her name was Evelyn. He was rushed into Sarah's office, where she was watching some tapes. After the interview, he was given a tour around the warehouse, where he was mostly greeted with smiles and waving hands, which confused him. Smiles sometimes mean a sign of aggression. Unfortunately, he has limited understanding of humans and the way their culture operates. Over the next few weeks, he keeps seeing Evelyn around the warehouse. She had quite beautiful brown hair and green eyes. He felt some kind of weird attraction towards her. He guessed this was what they called being in love. He was thinking he should pursue her; However, he was extremely hesitant to even talk to her. Moreover, other than Rachel and sometimes Rebekah, he hadn’t engaged with many women before, particularly human women. But yet again, maybe he should focus on his mission.
Two months later.
9/24/2007.
Adam was in the storage room on the ladder gathering stuff that he needed for his investigation today. He wasn't really paying attention when someone walked into the storage room, nor did he hear footsteps walking into the small room. But he heard someone call his name. "Oh! Hey, Adam.Without hesitation, he sprang up and directed his gaze at the doorway of the storage room, where he noticed Evelyn carrying a box packed with empty VHS tapes. "Oh, umm..." Adam stammered because she completely caught him off guard. "Sorry! I didn't mean to scare you," she said, slightly giggling. Adam just stared down at her; he was trying to process how she, a human woman, sneaked up on him, an alternate. "Don't worry about it!" He said, trying to act too cool around her. Evelyn softly giggled and placed each tape on a shelf as Adam continued to collect the stuff that he and Jonah needed for their investigation, such as extra empty VHS tapes, cameras, chargers, and film. "I was thinking, maybe I could come along with you and Jonah!" she said. This caused Adam to let out an awkward laugh. She actually wants to risk her life just to see if his species is real. He jumped off the ladder, holding all the stuff that they needed. He glanced at Evelyn, a slight grin on his face, as she shot him with an irritated look, and Adam understood that she truly wanted to join him and Jonah. "No, I'm serious!" Evelyn added. Adam just stared at her, completely confused. He could feel himself getting amused at the thought. "Sure, I guess just tell Sarah!" he mumbled.
Time skip...
"Are you sure you want to go with the boys for an investigation?" Sarah asked as they walked towards the van. "Yup, I think I can handle it!" Evelyn said. Sarah looked at her for a moment before shrugging. "Okay, just be careful; you're still needed for your other assignment!" Sarah said. Evelyn opened the van's door and hopped into the backseat. Once she got in the van, she saw the backseat had a lot of batteries, chargers, cameras, and two laptops. "So you're really tagging along with us?" Jonah asked, who was sitting in the passenger seat. "Yeah, I don't mind. I can handle alternates!" Evelyn said, settling into the seat. "I mean, we could really use the extra help, anyway!" Jonah said, pulling back his seat. Adam opened the driver's door and hopped into the seat. "Yeah, yeah, Sarah, we'll look after her; don't worry!" Adam said, closing the door. "So, where are we going?" Evelyn asked. "I think it's a house 20 minutes away from Bythrone," Adam explained as he started the van. "When will we be back?" she asked. "About 4-5 hours, but it depends on how the investigation goes," Jonah added. Evelyn found herself sitting there, painfully aware that she had probably overestimated her abilities yet again.
Once they pulled up to the house, Adam parked the van in front of the house, and then a young man about their age stepped out. Adam and Jonah jumped out of the van, holding cameras. The two boys walked up to him; they talked to him, and he let them both inside. Evelyn just sat there in the van, waiting for them to come back out. After a while, they walked out of the house with the owner and his wife and shook hands with them. They were talking to the two investigators and gestured around the house. The family walked towards their car, and with two small children, Jonah walked up to the van and sat in the driver's seat, grabbing his laptop and opening it up. He clicked around on his laptop, trying to connect to the cameras inside. "Jonah? Is everything working currently?" Adam asked through the walkie-talkie. Jonah grabbed his walkie-talkie and said, "I'm checking right now." After a few more minutes, he grabbed his walkie-talkie again. "Everything works now; go in, Adam!" He sat inside of the van in the driver's seat, placing his laptop on the dashboard. "Hey, Evelyn! You need to go inside the house with Adam!" Jonah said. Evelyn looked at him, then at the house. "O... oh..." she said. As she stared at the house yet again, a heavy sense of dread settled in; she feared she had definitely overestimated her abilities.

Chapter 8: Adam and EVElyn, part 2/2
Chapter Text
Evelyn was just sitting there, looking forward to an event unfolding. Adam set her at the front of the house, ready for any potential appearances at the door. He gave her a camera and told her to stay there until he gave a signal to capture something on camera to show to the homeowners. She waited and waited and waited, but nothing happened in the two hours she was sitting there by the front door. Evelyn slumped against her chair, completely bored out of her mind; maybe it was better to stay at the front desk of the Mandela Police Department. The entire time she was just hearing the clock tick by, the wind from outside the house, Adam's footsteps walking through the house, and the meowing from the homeowners' cat. The animal kept meowing, probably looking for its family, walking around, scratching. "Yo, Evelyn! How are you doing?" Jonah asked, his voice crackling alive through her walkie-talkie. "Well, I'm bored, Jonah!" she responded. Jonah let out a giggle, hearing him over the radio, lying back in his seat. "Yeah, sometimes they are false alarms, but they pay pretty well!" Jonah responded, laughing. Evelyn groaned, hearing the cat's meowing get even more distressed.
Evelyn followed closely behind him. She felt much safer near him. He was the other being in this house who was still alive and breathing. Once the two of them were at the front door, Adam immediately stopped all movement once he saw the dark void ahead of them. She looked at him, then at the dark ahead of them; a chill ran down her spine just by looking at it. The meowing got even more aggressive, now sounding like a man screaming in pain. Adam just stared at the darkness, not moving an inch. "Adam, what's going..." He quickly placed his hand over her mouth, silencing her. She looked at him in confusion, not sure why he did that before hearing from the dark void, "Adam. Adam. Adam. What's going on? Noise. Evelyn. What's that? Adam! What's the noise?" A voice crackled alive in the darkness, sounding like a mix of her voice and Jonah's, which made her skin crawl. How long was it there, listening and watching her? Was it here the entire time? Was it waiting for her to fall asleep to get her, Adam, and Jonah? Did it come in the house just to get them and not the owners? So many questions ran through her head as she heard it speaking in her voice.
"Board. Cat. Dog. False. Alaaaaaaarmmmmmssss." That quickly made her walk backward, feeling sick at how the last word was drawn out. But after a few minutes, it stopped, and she heard it walking down the hallway, towards a window and jumping out. After a few minutes, Adam moved his hand and said, "They can mimic voices. That's why you aren't supposed to talk when one is around!" She nodded before turning on her walkie-talkie, causing static to fill the silence. "Hello? Jonah?" she asked. "Yeah! Evelyn? Adam? Are you alive?" Jonah asked. "Yeah, we're alive; it looks like it's left!" she responded. Jonah cheered before pushing his seat back. "I'm going back to sleep; see ya in the morning!" he said through the walkie-talkie. It was currently 2:30 a.m., and this was honestly the latest she had ever stayed up before. "You know, Evelyn, you look like you could use some rest!" he said. She looked at him, then at the spot where the alternate had been. "Really? Are you sure?" She asked. Adam nodded his head, his blue eyes now really intense. "Yeah, I could guard you while you sleep!" he said. Suddenly, Evelyn felt tired, now wanting to go somewhere and rest her head. "Plus, you look like you seriously need it more than me," he added before grabbing her hand and guiding her towards the couch. As soon as the pillow hit her head, she immediately fell asleep.
Adam looked at Evelyn; he smiled softly at her. She was so interesting; she was kind and loving towards everyone, including Jonah's ugly mutt, Sarah, the cats, and even Benjamin. He looked at the hallway, which was now covered in darkness that he knew wasn't there before; he saw nothing but a black void; he knew he was here. "Come out, I know you're here!" he stated as N walked out, grinning widely. "Hello, Adam." Adam got up, shielding Evelyn's sleeping form; anything can happen with N around, so he can't let his guard down; he wasn't even sure if he had a plan to attack them. "Why are you here, Nick?" he asked, feeling his alternate side come out, his ears pinned downwards. "I'm not here for the human that you are courting; I'm just trying to talk to you," he said. Adam calmed down but still protected Evelyn, keeping his eyes on N. "I was going to get the family, but then I saw you and the two humans," N explained. "Why are you here? Why do you need to talk to me?" he asked. "It's about your father and Rachel." "What about them?" he asked. "Well, we all haven't seen you in a while, and you need to update them about the group," N responded. Adam calmed down, realizing he hadn't been communicating with his father or Rachel. "Okay, I will just talk to them; just don't hurt them!" he responded. With a nod, a mischievous grin emerged on his face, suggesting he had information that Adam was unaware of. "Well, good luck, Adam," N said before disappearing into the shadows. Adam looked at Evelyn before sighing; he hoped she would never find out what he really was.
After the investigation, they both grew close, very close; they would eat dinner together every day after work. Evelyn even taught him how to play Mario Kart because he actually kind of sucked at it from the very beginning, but after some time he got quite good at it, even beating Jonah and Benjamin in some rounds. They even found out more about each other; he, unfortunately, had to lie to her about his past to not blow his cover. He explains he is an orphan and has no parents, so he joined BPS to make a life out of himself. Adam found out that Evelyn had three older brothers and loved animals, especially cats. She would volunteer at the animal shelter. Since no one knew she was a BPS member, she would often work in the MPD; she was a spy, just like him. But everyone in BPS knew, and she was spying on the Mandela Police Department to gather information on the sergeant named Weaver and a lieutenant named Davis, so they wouldn't find them and to stop them from finding their headquarters. He loved everything about her: her eyes, hair, kind heart, and smile. Then one day, she asked him if he wanted to go on a date at her favorite coffee shop. Since no one yet knew Adam was in the BPS, there was no problem. Following several dates, their connection deepened, and they nearly fell in love, leading to Adam and Evelyn officially dating by early 2008.

Sarah was just sitting down at her desk, looking at paper after paper, report after report, signing them and placing them in the folder, and then reading the other report, thus repeating. Once her task was complete, she put all of the papers in a folder, placing it on the top shelf. She sighed and walked over towards her very own evidence board, where she researched all possible links to her brother's disappearance. She examined both potential leads and every piece of evidence available to her, including his last known location near Mandela, but soon realized he led a rather mundane life; he went to school, worked at his uncle's tech store, and then came back home, making his efforts seem fruitless. She glanced at who was thought to be his boyfriend, but unfortunately, he also vanished, leaving a sense of distance. It was like they both disappeared into thin air, never to be seen again.
She grabbed a small box underneath her desk; it was full of pictures of her brother that she managed to get her hands on. This was sadly the only thing she could get that reminded her of her missing brother before she left Mandela. It had been a long time since she had been at her childhood home; she ran away after her uncle Davis found out what she had been doing behind his back, and it broke her heart that she couldn't see them again. She knew she could sneak into her hometown and visit her childhood home and talk to her uncle Lee; however, she feared she could get arrested by Thatcher, who has been looking for her for the past 2 years. She looked at the picture of his alleged boyfriend. The police think that his boyfriend was the only link to her brother's disappearance, but with him gone, there's no way to ever know. She started to cry, thinking about what those things did to him and how scared he was, judging by the recordings and the writings in the notebooks. She saw a photo of her brother and her when they were younger. She grabbed it and looked at it for a really long time. It was taken on her first birthday, so around 1990. Her brother was holding her, and her uncle Lee was holding a very bright pink birthday cake. They all looked so happy. She wondered if her brother would be angry with her about the career path she had taken or if he would encourage her and join her in finding out what these things are. But whatever he was, whether he was alive or dead, she would find him and bring him home.
Thatcher looked at the photo of his missing and dead nephew; when he was about five or six, a picture was taken of him at the police station, wearing his police hat, alongside his brother and sister (the mother of his nephew and niece), all smiling at the camera. They looked truly delighted and full of hope for the future, oblivious to the fact that their family would be broken apart; his sister died giving birth at the age of 33, and his nephew succumbed to an unexpected attack at 17, never having the chance to enter his twenties; in 2006, at the age of 18, his niece left home, and his younger brother ceased communication with him following the passing of his nephew. He couldn't believe it had been 16 years since his nephew passed away, and he was disgusted with himself. If he had only answered his calls the day before it happened, maybe he would still be here. Maybe if he had punched the chief in his face and allowed his nephew to be inside the department, maybe his niece wouldn't have run away from home to find him. But once he finds her, he will try to convince her to stop, stop messing with these things, stop trying to find him. He's dead; they killed him, and he's no longer with them. He wants her to give up, but he's afraid to even look her in the eyes. She hates him, and she thinks he hates her. He doesn't; he doesn't hate her. He just hates her career path and wants her to stop because of the danger that it poses to her. So if she does end up in a random holding cell somewhere in America, he will bail her out.
"Davis!" Ruth said, snapping him out of his thoughts. "Yeah?" He responded, quickly looking at his friend. "You're good, man?" She asked. When she saw what he was holding, she frowned at the photo. "Are you thinking about…" He nodded; she knows that he's still grieving his nephew; sometimes she has to bring him back to reality and not dwell too long in the past. "Man! Has it really been that long?" She asked. He shook his head in response, still holding the photo. "I should have let him hide in the station, or responded to his calls, or..." Ruth sighed before hugging her friend. "Don't beat yourself up on what you should or could have done; it's the past, and there's nothing we can do about it. We just need to move forward and hope we can find her." She responded. He smiled a bit from the comforting hug; she was his best friend and right-hand woman, the person who was here to support him throughout the years, and he was here for her. "Don't worry, my good friend. We'll find her; we have to; it's for her own safety." She said. "Ruth...?" "Yeah?" "Do you think she hates me?" He asked. Ruth let out another sigh, ruffling his hair, "Nah, she doesn't hate you; she's just scared of what you think of her." Ruth reassured him. "Ruth! She thinks that her brother is still, which he probably isn't, I told her...." "Don't! She doesn't hate you, and you don't hate her! Remember, when we do find her, let's talk to her and tell her the truth!" She said. He wrapped his arms around her, trying to block out the reality of his nephew's passing, but a nagging feeling told him that his nephew was out there, somewhere.

Chapter Text
Six rushed towards the room with the bat still in hand, Rachel following behind him. Without hesitation, he turned on the light and found Rebekah and N hovering over his son, who was asleep. "What the fuck do you want?" Six asked. The two snapped their heads towards them and looked at them; N grinned widely at them while Rebekah waved at them friendly, too friendly. "Ah! Six! Rachel, just the two we need to see!" Rebekah said cheerfully, which made him pin his ears back; they were acting all buddy-buddy after all these years. These two had done nothing but watch him, Rachel, and his son get exiled, and now they had the nerve to show up four years later. "Get the fuck out!" he said, trying not to raise his voice due to his sleeping son. "But—!" "Out!" He grabbed them both, almost dragging them to the door. "Ow!" N complained. "Oh, come on! Man, don't be so mean!" Rebekah said. Upon reaching the front door, Six threw it open with a loud bang against the wall, eager to throw them out of his house. "Wait, please, it isn't about your youngest son! It's about Mark, the Heathcliff boy! The older one you befriended years ago." N realized that maybe mentioning the now 16-year-old wasn't the smartest move.
Six released them, his body shaking in anger at the mention of his oldest. He stared at them, and he felt his jaw unhinging from the bones, slowly turning into his true form. How dare they mention that boy to his face as if they were trying to get underneath his skin by mentioning him? Before he could attack them, Rachel immediately stepped between them, hoping they wouldn't fight and wake up Adam. "Calm down!" Rachel said. Six looked at her, then at them, his body shaking in rage. Rachel looked at him with a stern gaze as Six calmed down, feeling his bones moving right back in place. "How do you know the Heathcliff boy?" Rachel asked. N looked sheepish, rubbing his neck as Rebekah stared daggers into the back of his head. "It's about the kid you befriended a couple of years ago!" Rebekah explained. Six raised an eyebrow, confused; he looked at Rachel, who shrugged. "Our lord... Gabriel... He's after Mark..." N said. Six's eyes widened; he wondered if what they were saying was true. Was Gabriel really after Mark? If so, why? Now, 11 years later. "So we are here to warn you and have a place to stay; we got exiled," Rebekah explained, adding the last part sheepishly. He looked at Rachel, who just gave him a look, deciding that they would stay here for now. "So, can we please talk? I don't want to fight!" N said. Six came to an agreement, albeit with some reservations.
"Talk! You have ten minutes to explain, or else you're both out of the territory, permanently," Six growled. N started taking a deep breath. "A while ago, Gabriel sent us..." He just looked at him, his ears pinned down, almost growling at the mention of Gabriel. He sent us to spy on the Heathcliff family. I did, but I caused an accident!" N admitted, sinking into the couch, after seeing Rachel's burning eyes glaring at him. "I got inside the car by the radio; he panicked, and the car crashed, but it was an accident. I swear, I didn't mean it!" N said, their voice cracking at the end. Six slumped against the couch, pondering whether to believe them. "And how are we supposed to know to believe you and that you're still working for him?" Rachel asked. N and Rebekah looked at them, then at each other. "Well, if we were, we would take Adam already. But we didn't; instead, we left him there in his bed," Rebekah pointed out. Six looked at Rachel, who was reading a book. "They are right, you know! If they wanted a problem, then they would have done something to Adam already," Six pointed out, deciding it best to believe them both and allow them to stay here in the house, but only to save Mark. Rachel closed her book, looking at N and Rebekah. "Fine! You can stay here, but never go near Adam," Rachel said. Six got up, stretching his back, and he asked, "Okay, what's your plan, N?"
Chapter 11
Summary:
Lake day for the our favorite BPS boys and girls, ft. Benjamin Torres the brother of Cesar Torres, but something went wrong ;)
Chapter Text
May 3, 2008.
Jonah realized the moment they arrived at the lake. Adam hated swimming and was probably afraid of huge bodies of water; it was May of 2008, and Sarah found a lake not that far from headquarters. So she invited him, Benjamin (who had recently joined in early March), Adam, and Evelyn to relax and have some time off from work. Once they arrived at the lake, he looked at Adam; his face went white, and Dam looked around from side to side, panic forming in his eyes. He grinned, almost laughing, "Is he afraid of water?" he thought. Benjamin ran towards the lake, taking off his t-shirt and shoes, just leaving him in his swim shorts and muscle shirt. "Benny! Slow down; you're going to trip on rocks, dumbass!" Sarah shouted out to him. Jonah ran towards the water after Benjamin. He removed his shirt, wanting to feel the fresh summer water. "WO!" he shouted, diving into the water, as Benjamin laughed his ass off, falling backward, his black hair floating. "Jonah, watch it; your fat ass is going to cause a tsunami!" Benjamin teased. "Man, fuck off, you little shit!" Jonah retorted, splashing water towards the teen, who splashed back at him. This was fun; it was relaxing and nice, taking a break from all the stress of work, investigations, and the alternates.
Sarah, Adam, and Evelyn watch as Jonah and Benny splash around in the lake and start trying to drown each other. "Should we stop them?" Evelyn asked. "Nope! Let them be!" Sarah said. She lifted her sunglasses and lay back down on the blanket they'd brought along. Sarah was wearing a full-body black bathing suit, which showed off her curves a bit. While Evelyn was wearing a bikini, her long brown hair covered her back. Adam stayed behind, looking at the water; he looked nervous, panicked almost; his hands were shaking, almost looking like claws at the tips of his fingers. Sarah sat up, looking at him; she raised an eyebrow in confusion. "Hey, is something wrong, Adam?" Sarah asked. Adam looked at her, his eyes much darker than his usual blue. Adam spoke before saying, "Oh, I'm just nervous; I don't like swimming in large bodies of water because of germs." "Okay!" she said. She lay down and decided to have a tan underneath the sun; maybe he just has thalassophobia.
Benjamin Torres had an idea, and Jonah knew it was stupid, and he knew that Adam would probably kill them; Benjamin suggested that they grab a bucket of water and throw it on the top of Adam's head, who was taking a nap, next to Evelyn and Sarah, on a blanket that he took with them to the lake. So here he was standing over Adam, tipping the bucket over; he looked at Benjamin, who was grinning widely. "Are you sure you want to do this, Benny?" He asked the teen. The kid just laughed and grinned, "Come on, Jon! Don't be a pussy." Benjamin teased. Jonah took a deep breath before letting some water fall down on Adam's side. That small action caused his eyes to fly open, and he let out a loud shout; he stumbled away from them, accidentally disturbing Sarah and Evelyn, who was taking a tan, letting out a sharp hiss, gripping the sand out of pain. Jonah raised an eyebrow. Did Benjamin boil the water? Because that would be fucked up if he did. But yet again, the bucket would have felt hot since he was currently holding it. Adam was letting out grunts and huffs; they didn't even sound like a human; they sounded much like an animal. Suddenly, he noticed some black spots where the water hit his skin. He slowly approached Adam, hoping he was okay. "Hey, Adam! Are you alright?" He asked.
Adam stopped huffing, going quiet for a while; there was only the sound of his heavy breathing. Jonah slowly walked towards Adam, reaching out to him. "Hey, are you..." Jonah was surprised when Adam snapped his head towards him; Jonah stopped in his tracks, and his eyes widened as Adam looked at him dead in the eyes. His blonde hair was partially covering his face, but he could still see some of it; he quickly noticed how half of it had darkened, with two blank eyes staring right at him. He took a glance at Adam's side and saw small black spots where the water had hit Adam. Jonah felt uneasy looking at him; something was wrong with Adam; that’s not from this planet. He made eye contact with Adam again; he quickly noticed that the once ocean-blue eyes were now gone; they had been replaced with two blue voids. Jonah stepped back in shock and fear. Was he even human? And what is he? "Adam!" Evelyn shouted, which caused Adam's face to transform back; he looked at her, his face turning into a humanoid form, looking as it had before. Evelyn ran towards him, helping him up. "Are you okay?" she asked. Sarah grabbed Benny by the ear, dragging him away towards the car. "We are leaving!" she growled, leading the angry teenager to the van.
Jonah started to gather their belongings with Adam and Evelyn, who was still asking him if he was okay, which he responded to with a quick nod and a shaky grin. He couldn't stop thinking about the black spots on Adam's skin; what were they, and what the fuck was going on with Adam? Even after they left and went back to headquarters, he couldn't stop thinking about how terrifying those eyes were and how they looked back at him with pure hate and rage, like how a predator looked at its prey. It was only after he had processed everything that he realized that eyes had also grown out from his skin and were staring directly at him, right into his soul, which, now that he thought of it, freaked him the fuck out. But as he looked at Adam, he wondered, is Adam even human?

Chapter 12: Chapter 12: Fingerprints
Chapter Text
Sarah was working late when Benjamin walked into her office. She still couldn't believe that he had found her after she had run away from home, a year after she had run away from home, apparently all the way from New York City. "Hey, Benny," she said, turning around and quickly greeting him before getting back to work. He pulled out a chair and sat next to her, looking at what she was working on; he immediately frowned once he saw it. She was writing about all the connections about Mark's disappearance. He looked at her, then at the report. "Why?" he asked. Sarah looked at him, raising an eyebrow. "Why, what?" she asked him. He pointed towards the report and asked again, "Why are you looking into..." "Because maybe Thatcher missed something, something that could lead to him being found," she said. Occasionally, he questioned whether she was delving too deeply into the search for Mark, pondering if he was alive or lying dead in a ditch somewhere and if she might uncover the knowledge that remained hidden from humanity. "Look, even if they were, by some magical miracle, still alive, don't you think he would have appeared somewhere?" Benjamin asked," Sarah just rolled her eyes before getting back to reading the report. "I suggested you leave, Ben; I will find him." She whispers before dismissing and gesturing for him to leave her office.
Meanwhile, across town in Mandela County.
Thatcher finally made it to his brother's house. He quietly jumped out of the car and walked towards the door. He slowly opened the door and was surprised that it was unlocked, even after what happened in 1992. Once he walked into the house, he immediately saw a multitude of boxes and papers strewn about, particularly on the couch and the floor. He looked up and saw his brother, Dave, sleeping at his desk, snoring loudly. He quietly snuck upstairs and into his room, pushing the bookcase that was blocking Mark's room. Once he opened the door, he saw nothing had changed: the bed was still in the same spot, along with the desk, notebooks, clothes, and posters on the wall, and the window had been replaced. Even after 17 years since his nephew's disappearance, it seemed to remain the same.
He put on his gloves, ready to look for evidence or something that he had missed—maybe a clue like a piece of hair that wasn't Cesar's or Mark's, perhaps belonging to the person who took him or a fingerprint that didn't belong to them. But as he looked, he found nothing, just the same eight fingerprints he had found 17 years ago: the two from Mark that were on his desk or the window and the two from Cesar that were both on the doorknob. He would look into the last four that weren't from them but were from two—one from a 30-year-old man named Nicolas Beringer, one from a woman named Rachel Magdalene, and two from an unknown man and woman. He would question them, but Nicolas and Rachel had been dead a long time before Mark disappeared, and he couldn't locate the last two people who were possibly connected to his disappearance.
Thatcher got out of the house before Dave woke up. Once he made it to the door, something quickly caught his eye. He walked up to it, picked it up, and looked at it; he frowned. It was a photo of him, Mark, Cesar, Dave, Ruth, and baby Sarah. It was taken before Jane passed away, back in 1988. They weren't smiling, just looking at the camera, nervous and scared, unsure about Jane's fate, whether she was going to live. Sarah was wrapped in a blanket and was held by Mark, who was only 13 years old, while Cesar was about 14. He set it down before walking towards the door. He quietly closed it, attempting to avoid waking Dave, and set the bookcase back where it belonged. Thatcher walked downstairs only to see Dave fully awake now, stretching his back. They made eye contact with each other, looking at each other for a moment before Dave just glared at him and went back to work. "Leave, Thatcher," Dave whispered to him. He wanted to talk to him, just sit down and talk to each other just like the times before the 1992 incident. But he walked away, closing the front door behind him.
Once at the station, Thatcher promptly reexamined the fingerprints, and ultimately, they all matched those of his nephew, his nephew's boyfriend, the two deceased individuals, and the two people who were unwilling to step forward. "He's gone, and he's never coming home," Thatcher thought. He was about to place everything back when he realized something. He picked up the fingerprint evidence and realized that the third fingerprint from the desk didn't belong to Mark; it belonged to the unknown man, who was possibly an alternate. He quickly scanned through the database, hoping to find something—anything—and he did. He read it, hoping this could be the clue leading to him finding Mark, but his jaw dropped: the unidentified man was Jude Murray, who had gone missing after killing his wife, and he was present in Mark's room that day in 1992.

Chapter 13: Chapter 13: He knows now ...
Chapter Text
October, 2009.
Jonah continued to work on investigations with Adam, but this time, he knew something was wrong with him, something wasn't right with his co-worker. His eyes. His eyes looked more fake, more doll-like. They were still ocean blue eyes but seemed more watery and less emotionless. Like whenever Adam laughed, smiled, or showed any emotions, his eyes showed nothing; they just looked like two dead voids trying to look and act human. Jonah couldn't even look at him without feeling nauseous. He wondered: Who is Adam, really? Was he just a strange guy who had just joined BPS because he lost someone to an alternate attack? Or was he curious about alternates? But he was wondering if he was even human in the first place since all the strange habits that he does could be explained, but yet he doesn't look nor act like an alternate; plus that seems too far-fetched to him to even believe, because Alternates are violent and monstrous beings who would kill anyone human in an instant while Adam is rude, but a caring friend and boyfriend. Maybe Adam was just a normal, weird guy.
Winter Break 2009.
He knew it was a crossing of boundaries. He knew Adam was probably going to punch him later. But Jonah got curious about his best friend's past, so one day he looked him up online, maybe to find something, anything, to explain Adam's behavior. He wasn't trying to be a stalker. As he was searching for any information about him. After searching for hours, he eventually found it. The piece was about Jude Murray and a homicide case that took place in 1988, and his jaw dropped the moment he clicked on the link. Jude Parkson-Murray, a 19-year-old man, was responsible for the murder of his wife, Lynn Smith-Murray, and potentially also his infant son, Adam. As he read, he continued to feel even more sick and nauseous. He saw the photo of them: Lynn, a blonde with green eyes, donned a stunning white dress and flashed a radiant smile, while Jude sported a black suit paired with a red tie; he had black hair and striking blue eyes. Jude was holding a two-month-old baby with blonde hair, just like Adam. He immediately closed his laptop, feeling his blood run cold. Was this baby Adam? If so, how the fuck was he alive? Was his father hiding from the law, or...? Jonah didn't want to believe it; he really didn't want to believe that Adam was an alternate. But was he...?
Jonah immediately printed out the article and rushed towards Sarah's office; he had to discuss this with her. He knocked on the door in a hurry. "Come in!" she responded. Once he opened the door, he could immediately tell she hadn't slept in days, judging by the bags underneath her eyes and her messy hair. "What is it, Jon?" she asked. He gulped, trying to find the courage to speak to her about Adam. "I... umm... you see... I don't... don't want to go on these... investigations... anymore," he said. Sarah stopped writing, turned around in her chair, and looked at him. Her eyes widened. "What? Why?" she asked. Jonah bit his lip, seeing her reaction. It was hostile and angry. "Why do you want to stop now? Why now?" she asked again. Jonah took a breath before explaining his reasoning. "It's Adam; something isn't right with him," he said. Sarah just rolled her eyes angrily. "Well, I'll talk to him; I don't want to do it, and I'm not going near any of those houses that you or Adam go in!" she growled out rather angrily. "But—!" "Plus, Evelyn doesn't want to do it anymore. Just do it," she added before dismissing him and going back to work. Jonah wanted to show her his proof that something wasn't right with him, but he knew she wouldn't believe him. "Just do the fucking investigation, Jon; besides, YOU wanted to do them in the first place!" she said. He walked out of the office feeling defeated; maybe after this investigation, he would show her his proof— just after investigating a house in the countryside of Mandela County.

Chapter 14: .....
Chapter Text
Winter break, 2009.
After three hours of driving, they finally made it to Mandela County, and as soon as he saw the house, Jonah instantly felt uneasy; he felt sick; something was wrong with this house and this investigation. They had gotten a call from his hometown, Mandela County, in the countryside. Some woman had called them, explaining that she kept hearing meowing, even though her cat had passed away 5 years ago. He thought she was high; maybe she had schizophrenia, but Adam told him to shut up. He didn't want to go, but then she mentioned the $500 per night, so they agreed, and Jonah now regretted it as he looked at the house. It seemed alive, living, staring back at him, right into his soul. He looked at Adam, who just smiled, and he turned to him. "I don't see her," he mumbled. Adam just rolled his eyes. "Maybe she just left; relax, Jon; I'll set up everything, and you just stay here," Adam said, grabbing the cameras and opening the van's door, walking up to the house. Once Adam walked inside the house, Jonah immediately opened his laptop, waiting for the cameras to connect to his laptop. Slowly, one by one, the cameras connected to his laptop, and he saw inside the house: the living room, the kitchen, two bedrooms, the hallway, and the front door. "Are they ready?" Adam asked through his walkie-talkie. "Everything is good on my end!" Jonah responded. He looked at the house, then at his laptop, and now he has to wait. He groaned, knowing this was going to be a long night ahead of them. Jonah ends up falling asleep in the front seat watching the cameras; he ends up dreaming about his father and wondering if he's even alive or not and if so, if he is even looking for him right now.
Then, at three o'clock in the morning, he was awakened by one of the camera's motion detectors alerting him that something was moving throughout the house. He immediately sat up, logged into his laptop, and then looked through each camera. He saw nothing until he got to the room where Adam was sleeping and saw a tall figure in the room's corner; because of the camera's blurry lens, he could only see the mouth of the Alternate, which was full of razor-sharp teeth as it looked down at Adam. He instantly grabbed his walkie-talkie and activated it. Little did he know this would get the Alternate's attention.
Thirty minutes later, a screaming match broke out between them, Jonah wanting to leave since this house was probably infested with Alternates and the woman was most likely an alternate herself who tricked them into coming, while Adam wanted to stay since maybe they could get proof that Alternates exist; meanwhile, he kept hearing meowing, which was from the alternate trying to lure them into a trap; as the meowing got louder, it sounded like the wails and cries of an infant. Adam's voice became threatening and angry as he continued to argue with Jonah. He pushed some buttons, like making fun of his dad and mom, which caused Jonah to snap and yell, "I will forever give MY dad fucking shit for basically trying to turn me into the fucking cops, but hey, at least my dad didn't murder my mother!" As soon as he said that, Adam went quiet. He said nothing, but he heard something—a low and very sharp growl. "WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU FUCKING SAY, JONAH!" he yelled, and he knew he should have never said that. But he was too mad to think or calm down. "You fucking heard me, bitch!" he shouted. He pulled out of the drive-through and sped down the road, leaving Adam behind.
Jonah sped past down the road, trying to make it to Bythrone and out of this hellish town. If he made it to Bythrone, then he could warn Sarah, Benny, and Evelyn of what happened, revealing Adam's past and hopefully firing him. Then, out of nowhere, the radio started to change channels, going from sports to music to the weather; it was like something was trying to talk to him. He couldn't make out anything, just a few letters and phrases: "Y.O.U. L.E.F.T. H.I.M. B.E.H.I.N.D.!" Jonah started to drive down random roads and streets, barely missing trash cans and animals. He just wanted to go back to Bythrone and warn his friends. He looked at the passenger seat and saw Adam or something that was pretending to be him, judging by the person's blacked-out skin and face and the horns that were going out of its head; he froze just looking at the thing; it was even creepier in person. The thing turned its head around, and the only visible thing was two cold, dead eyes. Before he could scream or call for help, the van veered off the main road and crashed into a tree. His vision blurred momentarily, filled only with leaves and branches, and he struggled to think clearly. The next thing he knew, someone was dragging him out of the van and onto the cold grass. Two hands tightened around his neck, choking him. He desperately wanted to fight back, kicking, yelling, punching, and screaming for help to escape this assailant. Unfortunately, the attacker was too strong; he couldn't even shift away from him. The last thing he saw were two cold, lifeless blue eyes.

Chapter 15: Chapter 15: Rebekah and Jonah
Chapter Text
Jonah thought he was dead; he thought the Alternate that was wearing his friend's skin killed him, but he was wrong. When he regained consciousness, the first thing he heard was voices, one of them Adam's; they were all speaking in an unknown language that he couldn't understand. But it took a few more days, or maybe it was hours, for him to open his eyes again. When he finally regained consciousness, the first thing he saw was a ceiling fan, so he knew he was in a living room or a house. Maybe someone had found him and brought him back to their home. All he thought was, "Wait! Am I dead? I'm in heaven!" He thought. Then he heard the sounds of growling and scratching; it was like a trapped animal trying to escape. He immediately sat up and looked around and saw a girl with long brown hair that was tied into a bun and pale white skin; she was wearing Hello Kitty everything (a shirt, PJ shorts, socks, and slippers). She was sitting on the TV, which was facing downwards; she painted her nails, looking at them before adding a clear cover. The growling was clearly coming from the TV that she was on; the TV moved around; something was clearly trying to knock her off of it. He instantly knew she was an alternate, judging by the two pairs of horns coming out of her head and her face—or lack thereof. She had no face, no nose, mouth, or eyes, just a blank surface where her face was supposed to be. He froze, hoping she didn't see him. He looked down and saw his foot was tied to the couch post, meaning he couldn't run and was stuck with an alternate.
When Jonah looked back at where the female alternate was sitting, he saw that she was now looking directly at him. She now had a huge black cat lying down on her lap curled up into a ball. "Oh, hello! You must be Jonah!" she said, waving at him. He scooted away from her, and she just kept 'looking' at him. "How do you know my name?" he asked. "Adam told us, of course!" "Us?" he replied, slightly panicking. Was Adam one of them, a spy all along? Was he pretending to be their friend just to get into BPS to do God knows what to him, Sarah, Evelyn, and Benny? She nodded her head. "Yup! Me, Cat, Rachel, Six, or Jude, and underneath the TV that I'm sitting on is N, or Nicolas, who is trying to kill you." He looked at the TV; he felt nervous with the knowledge that something was trying to kill him underneath the TV that she was sitting on, which kind of explained why she was sitting on the TV, lying down on the screen, and the sounds of growling—it probably hated being trapped and wanted out. "Wait, where's..." "Adam! He's with Six and Rachel. They will be back soon to hopefully sit on this!" she said, pointing at the TV, where the alternate underneath was still growling. Jonah realized if she really wanted to do something to him, she would have done so a long time ago. So maybe he could let his guard down for a bit.
It turns out Rebekah wasn't that bad to hang out with for an hour or two; she and Jonah ended up talking for hours; they had a lot in common; they both loved Star Wars, memes, comic books (especially Marvel), and going on internet websites like 4chan, Tumblr, and AO3. She revealed that the alternates had clans and friendships that sometimes last a lifetime. Sometimes, they would also eat things like apples, almonds, grapes, figs, pomegranates, olives, cattle, sheep, and human flesh. "Wait, you eat what?" He asked, drinking the apple juice that the Cat alternate brought him, apparently named Cat or Johnny. "Oh no! Don't worry about me, Rachel, Six, Cat, and Adam! We don't eat human flesh! We only eat fruits. And here is another story!" She explained, pointing to the TV. "Oh!" Jonah replied, looking at them nervously. 'That probably explains what happened to Mark.' He thought. "Wait, how do you even eat?" He asked, gesturing where her mouth was supposed to be. "Oh, like this!" She said quickly, grabbing a fig, "Wait, what are you...?" He immediately stopped mid-sentence as her face slipped open from the middle, revealing alligator-like teeth, sharp and pointy, which immediately chomped down on the apple. "WHAT THE FUCK?!?" he shouted. Her face morphs back into what it was before her face slipped open. "That's how I eat!" She said. He looked down at the basket before gesturing to Cat to get more fruits; that thing grabbed the basket and dragged it away. "Your..." "Yup, this isn't my true form. It's just my human form; all alternates have their forms." She explained. Jonah looked at her with sickening horror at her vague statement. What he was looking at right now wasn't how she really looked, meaning whatever was hiding underneath must be terrifying. He realized that he needed to quickly change the subject.
"What do you mean by 'clan'?" He asked. She looked at him before stretching her arms up; he immediately cringed at the sound of her bones moving underneath her skin. "By a family unit, a group decides that they are home to each other. I and N used to live in our home world before getting exiled from it, and now we live here!" She explained. "So what you're telling me is that, like humans, you found another alternate to live with and become a clan or family of some sort?" he asked. "Yup, I and N just joined actually, like around 17 years ago," she added. The large black cat suddenly appears again carrying a basket of fruits; it lays the basket down on the floor. It then turned to Jonah; it suddenly started to cough, making gagging noises much like a cat, before it finally coughed up several comic books still in a bag. "Keep them and read them, so you won't be bored; we are keeping you hostage after all," she said, pointing toward the comics. When Jonah grabbed a Captain Marvel one, he quickly processed what she had said to him. "Wait, what do you mean 'hostage'?" he asked. "Oh, we are keeping you here. I don't think it's best for BPS or HIM should find you yet."

Chapter 16: Adam's childhood. 3/4
Chapter Text
6/4/1987.
Six raised himself up on two shaky feet, supporting himself on a nearby wall. He was thankful that he lured the young man into an alleyway to steal his identity. After some stretching, bending, and kicking to make sure that his legs worked correctly, he immediately stole some clothes that were nearby and put them on, and boom, he was now Jude Murray. He looked down at himself and saw skin as white as milk. He moved his fingertips around the clothes, feeling his new skin and hair. He had finally found a proper human host and a new body; the lord would finally rule this world as his own. He looked at the man's wallet and ID. He knew his name was Jude Murray, and he worked at an old store that was owned by a man named Felix Torres. He loved cats, birds, and snakes and had a huge fear of dogs, and most importantly, he was an orphan. He also saw he lived up the street from here. Once he cleaned up the blood and ripped it from the alleyway, making sure no one would ever find the skeleton, he walked back to his house, which appeared to be smaller than a normal house but in one building. He opened the door, feeling all-powerful and overjoyed. He had ultimately returned to Earth, a world crafted by the creation of Michael and Gabriel's father. Now that he has successfully opened the gateway for his lord, the time has come for him to enter and permanently alter humankind. Hell, he might decide to pay Mark, a human he adopted, a visit; given that it had been six years since they last saw each other, he thought it would be a good idea to take this opportunity to meet again.
As soon as Six, or Jude, closed the door behind him, a blonde woman came out of nowhere; she immediately threw her arms around him, catching him off guard. She pulled him into a quick kiss, which caused him to freeze. She broke the kiss and just smiled at him; her smile was so bright it could light up the whole world in a matter of seconds. "Hey honey, you're back!" she said, smiling at him. He froze, unsure what to do; he glanced down and realized that she was pregnant. He didn't know his host had a mate, nor had he known she was pregnant. "Jude, I didn't know you were coming home early," she said happily. Six didn't know what to do with her: should he kill her and the fetus, or keep her alive and turn the potential life inside into one of them? "Come on, my love, I just ordered pizza; let's talk about your day!" she said, smiling brightly. "Ummm, okay..." he said, his voice cracking at the end as he was dragged away toward a table. 'I hate my life so much....' he thought.

Six got up, stretching his back, and he asked, "Okay, what's your plan, N?" He was hoping they actually had a plan to save Mark by either intervening or something else, but N just smiled at him instead, meaning he probably did, but it was stupid. "Oh, my plan is simple! My old friend!" he said happily. "Okay, here's the plan: We stalked him for a while before acting out a quick drugging and kidnapping; we'll learn everything about him: what time he goes to school, works, and hangs out with his family," N said. Six looked at Rachel, then at N. "What? That's your plan?" he asked in unbelief. "Your plan is just being a crazy, stalking ex-husband who's trying to get their ex-wife back?" Rachel said. N and Rebekah looked at each other and then at them. "Well, that's all that we could think; it's not just him that he's after," N responded, a bit embarrassed. "Yeah, it's kind of stupid!" Six, said laughing. Cat suddenly appeared, holding something in their mouth. "Oh, Cat! My friend! What do you have there?" Rachel asked. Cat put the paper down, and it was a photo of Mark and another boy with black hair and tan skin. Mark and the dude held each other in a loving embrace; the tan-skinned guy was kissing Mark on the cheek. "Who's this?" she asked. "Oh! That's a human he's been dating/courting!" Rebekah answered. "What's his name?" Rachel asked. "I think his name is Cesar Torres...."
Six was playing with his son in his playpen with the few toys that Adam owned, which Six definitely and 100% didn't steal from random stores around Mandela and Bythrone. He and Rachel decided to let N and Rebekah settle down in their rooms since this house has about 8 rooms and three bathrooms before planning their next move and saving his oldest son. Rebekah called the room right next to Rachel's, while N called the basement because, of course, he called the weird room that the Torres family barely used. Adam was stacking blocks while Six was coloring in a cool coloring book that he definitely bought. "What are you making, Adam?" Six asked. Adam looked up and smiled cheerfully. "A rocket ship! Like the ones on TV!" Adam responded with a wide grin. Meanwhile, N somehow managed to slither into the pen and was now standing right next to him. "Your son does look a lot like you!" N said, looking at Adam and then at Six. "Nah, he looks a lot like Lynn," Six responded. "Papa, look, I made a cool rocket ship!" Adam said, grinning widely. He showed off the rocket ship, seemingly being proud of it. "Wow! I'm very proud of you, kid," Six said, ruffling his son's blonde hair. After a while, Adam fell asleep. Six laid him down on the couch while placing a blanket on top of him. Six walked over to where Rachel, Rebekah, N, and Cat were sitting. "Okay, ladies, gentlemen, and weird cat thing, here's the plan."
8 months later... 9/15/1992, 5 hours after Mark disappears.
Dave pulled into the parking lot of the Mandela Police Department; he didn't care if he parked incorrectly; his nephew called him, and he was there. He quickly jumped out, running toward the police department. Once he entered the building, he saw utter chaos: police officers were trying to call Bythrone and other neighboring towns, and Ruth was trying to hold back Thatcher, who was yelling and trying to kill his boss, Chief Scott. "YOU FUCKING LEFT HIM OUT THERE TO DIE!" Thatcher shouted, trying to get to his and Ruth's boss. Dave looked around and saw his niece, Sarah, sitting in a chair. He knelt down to her level. "Hey! Sarah! Where's your brother?" he asked her. She didn't answer; her brown eyes were teary, and she was visibly shaking; she had clearly seen something that horrified her. "He took him..." Sarah said, crying. "Who did, sweetie?" "The man in Markie's closet," she said, tears now falling down her face. He looked at the unfolding chaos as Thatcher kept yelling at Scott. "Sarah? I'm going to need you to stay here while I talk to Aunt Ruth and Uncle Thatcher, okay, sweetie?" She nodded her head, still crying and clearly traumatized from the night's events. He approached his brother and best friend, Ruth.
Ruth was still holding back Thatcher, who was trying to get at the chief. "Davis, I did what was on the protocol issued by the state of Wisconsin for each police department!" Scott argued back. "He was my nephew, and you still left him out there!" Thatcher shouted back. Ruth turned to him while still holding back Thatcher. "David?" Ruth asked. "Ruth, I got a call from Mark! Where is he? Why is Sarah all alone?" he asked. "If you help me hold back your brother from committing an aggravated battery, I'll explain everything," Ruth said. He immediately pulled his brother back, who was still trying to kill the chief. Scott looked at the three of them and gestured for some of the on-duty officers to get to their cars; they nodded and immediately rushed out. He looked at them dead in the eyes. "Thatcher, for tonight you are dismissed for disorderly conduct," the chief said. "Ruth, make sure he doesn't leave this building," he added before walking out of the department. Dave looked at his brother and asked, "Thatcher, where's Mark?"
Hours later.
Six watched as N played with Adam, allowing him to pull and chew on his fingers. N was smiling, judging by the little bit of light that was in his eyes; he definitely gets along better with younger kids than with teenagers. N was calmer than he had been hours earlier, when they were dragging the boy through the TV. "Ummm, thanks, man..." he said. N looked at him and shrugged. "No worries!" he replied. Six sat next to him, just enjoying the quietness that remained, despite the night's chaos, headaches, and the begging and screaming for help from the boy. He looked at N. It had been years since they had just sat down and enjoyed a moment of silence after a rough night. Rachel suddenly appeared, holding a tray with broken plates and trash food. She set the tray down on the table. Six looked at the tray, then at her. "Is he..." "Yes!" she responded, removing the carrots and chopped-up lamb from her dress and head veil. "Unfortunately, he threw the food at the wall and started to yell and scream for help," she said. She tossed the broken plates in the trash, then Rachel turned to them and said, "You deal with your son, Six." He nodded, deciding that maybe it was best to deal with the boy himself. He got up, stepping out of the playpen. "Hey, N! Keep Adam distracted for a bit; I have to talk to the kid!" He said. N nodded; he was just happy to bond with Adam. He walked towards the small room where the kid is now, the same room where they kept Cesar, the human that was partly transformed into an alternate.
Six opened the door and saw his oldest son, Mark, now 17, who had been promised to Cesar, looking at him, his ankle handcuffed to the couch, which was the only piece of furniture that was able to fit in the room. Mark has changed a lot. He was six when he had last seen him; now, almost 11 years later, Mark has changed so much. His hair is shorter than it was before, and his eyes don't reflect his age; they look a lot older. Mark glared at him, anger and hatred burning in his brown irises, and he backed away from him. Mark didn't recognize him, and his son didn't know him. Six stepped into the room and sat across from him. He allowed his bones to start moving underneath his skin, transforming into something that he will recognize. "Mark, my son, do you recognize me?" Six said, smiling, hoping that Mark could at least recognize the face. As soon as his son made eye contact with him again, Mark's eyes lit up. "S-Stanley?"

Chapter 18: Jonah in the house 1/?
Summary:
We now get back to Jonah and see how he's holding up!
Chapter Text
To say that Jonah was angry would be an understatement of the year, worthy of getting a reward. HE. WAS. PISSED. Why? He unknowingly and willingly invited an Alternate into the Bythrone Paranormal Society. He endangered his friends and dog, along with the fact that he was kidnapped by said Alternate and taken back to the house he tried to run away from. God, he wished he had seen all the warnings and red flags about Adam before allowing him to stay at the warehouse and get near Sarah, Evelyn, Benny, Laika, and possibly Noah if he could even be bothered to visit the warehouse instead of doing whatever weird, crazy-rich things he does nowadays. He also wonders if anyone noticed that he was gone: Sarah? Evelyn? Benjamin? Maybe even Noah? But sadly, it appears that no one is coming to save him from this place.
So here he was, stuck in this house, sitting in the living room, his ankle tied to the couch, bored out of his mind; he wished he had brought his laptop. He tried to break the handcuffs to escape, but when he attempted to do so, he quickly found out they were pretty strong. One day, after three weeks of being stuck in the house, Rebekah tried talking to him. She showed him a meme on Twitter, but he gave her the cold shoulder, refusing to even look at her. "I understand that you might be emotionally distressed right now, Jonah, but I hope we can talk again soon," she said. He wouldn't talk, especially to her or Adam; he'd get out of here soon. He'd escape and run all the way back to Bythrone to warn Sarah.
Surprisingly, they didn't let him starve because they kept giving him food to at least have something in his stomach. He was given food like soup, rice, lamb, potatoes, or eggs; sometimes they would give him water to drink. But he didn't want anything from them, so he ended up throwing the food against the wall and then screaming for help at the top of his lungs. They would walk away completely annoyed with him and not give him food for the rest of the day, or the intruder, who ended up being Adam's father, would threaten to cut off his tongue if he didn't shut up. The last time he threatened Jonah, the Alternate actually held a knife while bringing it close to his face. After that threat, he decided not to anger the Alternate; he was pretty sure that if the Intruder followed up on that threat—and there was a possibility that he would—Jonah couldn't warn the other BPS members about Adam being an Alternate the entire time.
It had been a week since he had last eaten anything, but even before being trapped, he hadn't eaten anything since Adam didn't want him to eat, as there was so much money on the table, even for an investigation around Mandela County. His stomach was constantly growling, and he couldn't find the strength to keep fighting. He felt like he was going to throw up, even though there was nothing in his stomach anymore. He really wished he could just break the chain so that he could go to the kitchen, steal some of their food, and just leave this shithole of his own hometown. He knew it was a mistake, a mistake to come back here again; he was afraid that he would see his own father again or, worse, accidentally blow Evelyn's cover at the police department.
“Meow.” When Jonah opened his eyes, he was surprised to see the large cat Alternate looking at him. It was huge, like the size of a tiger cub, but it still had the look of a normal domestic house cat; it even acted like one. Jonah looked at it and immediately backed away from the thing; he wasn't sure what it was going to do to him. “Um....” The cat dropped something; it was a piece of bread, pawing it towards him. "Meow." It kept looking at him, blinking. Jonah grabbed it, his hunger winning over, and he took a bite out of it. He was hungry; he hadn't eaten in weeks since he was kidnapped. Maybe he shouldn't have been throwing shit at the Alternates. “Thanks,” he said. The cat started to purr, rubbing up against his leg and making biscuits. “You're not going to...” He was cut off as the cat sat on his chest and started to purr, rubbing against his face. “Oh, okay, calm down; I don't like...” “Cat! Get off of him!” Rebekah said, which scared the shit out of him because she came out of nowhere. She walked into the living room carrying a bag of chips that was obviously stolen from a nearby corner store. She opened the bag and handed it over to him. “You want some? I don't think the small amount of bread will fill your stomach,” she said. He hesitantly took the bag from her and started to eat the chips.
Rebekah then sat near him with a laptop in hand. She showed him a meme that was posted on Twitter. It was poking fun at the president's current scandal. A large number of Republican lawmakers, the president, and the rest of the House are talking about the TV Act, and it should be overturned. One side is denying the existence of Alternates, claiming Americans should have TVs back in their homes, while the other side is pointing to the proof of Alternates, and therefore it should never be overturned. “He's trying to overturn the TV Act!" Jonah said, letting out a laugh. “Yeah, he's trying and failing,” she replied. Jonah looked at her; maybe they could be friends despite her clan kidnapping him. Then he saw something going around her neck; it was faint, but it was very visible. It took him a moment to realize that it was a rope burn, and the REAL Rebekah took her own life, and this thing replacing her took her place.
"Hey, Rebekah... umm...." "Yeah? Jon? What is it? Do you need anything?" she asked. "Do you ever think of your victim? Like... the real... Rebekah?" he asked, but the atmosphere quickly changed; a terrifying silence had fallen over them. Rebekah froze, looking at him, then at herself. She closed the laptop and walked away. "I think it's best to sleep, Jon. Let's talk in the morning; you need rest for tomorrow," she said, walking back to her room. He got up, now annoyed at her. "Hey, you don't get to walk away from this conversation," he shouted. "Jon, be quiet! If you value your tongue, then I'll advise you to keep your mouth shut," she responded. "YOU killed that woman, then stole her identity, didn't you?" he asked. She stopped walking, her body shaking for a bit. "Jonah!" "You did! Didn't you?" "Jonah! Shut up and go to fucking sleep!" she growled, seeing her body shake more. "What? It's the truth, is it not? You killed her, didn't you?" "Jonah!" "You took her identity, caused her to take her own life, and then…” Jonah was cut off as Rebekah lost her humanity, transforming into a terrifying inky shadow figure with a face split open, revealing sharp, pointy teeth. "SHUT THE FUCK UP!" Jonah shut his mouth, backing down. She stormed out, leaving him alone with his thoughts. He heard a door slam, which echoed throughout the house. He sat back down, his mind racing with many questions, and wondered if he had pushed her too far.

Chapter 19: Chapter 19: A traitor.
Chapter Text
Six dragged Jonah through the woods behind the house in his territory. He was grateful that this kid wasn't that chubby for a human, making it much easier to drag him by his hoodie. Once he saw the house, he quickly sped up, not wanting to run into another Alternate, or worse, Gabriel. He definitely didn't want to run into the bastard right now, due to him having a human that they needed alive and breathing; he also no longer had the strength he once had back in the late '80s to early '90s. After getting the call from Rachel that they had managed to catch a BPS member, apparently the lead recruiter that people would meet in an alleyway somewhere to get recruited into their organization, taking him and hiding him in their territory would greatly weaken BPS before capturing the last three members. He smiled to himself; so far, no other Alternates and no Gabriel. "Hello!" Six froze, recognized that voice, and he turned around and saw Gabriel not that far from the house. "Speak of the devil and he shall appear," Six said, dropping Jonah's unconscious body and stepping in front of the young man, shielding him from Gabriel. "What the fuck do you want now?" he asked. Gabriel just smiled, looking at Jonah. "Oh Judas, Judas, Judas, I don't want anything from you or this little clan of yours, at least not yet. I'm just observing," the devil responded, laughing. Six looked at the house, then at him; he bared his teeth, knowing well that Gabriel was now gunning for his sons and the rest of his clan. "Don't even think about it, you bastard," Six growled. "I'm not, dear, but you should really be careful; your oldest is really interesting to me," Gabriel said. He walked away, disappearing into the tree line. Six quickly picked up Jonah, ran to the door, opened it, and then locked it as soon as Jonah and he got inside safely.
Six walked through the hallway and into the living room, hoping to see Rachel or N, but instead, he saw his son sitting on the couch; his entire face was blackened, and his right hand had turned into three claws. "Adam!" he shouted his son's name as he sat there looking at the TV, which was playing static on the screen. "RACHEL!" he shouted. He quickly sat Jonah down on the couch, trying to get his son's attention. "Rachel! Get down here, I need help!" he yelled. He turned to his son, trying to shake him awake from whatever was controlling him. He heard footsteps, and Rachel and Rebekah appeared in the living room. The two looked at him, then at Jonah, who was thankfully still unconscious. "Six, what the heck? Who is this kid?" Rachel asked. "This is Jonah; he is the main recruiter for BPS. Rachel, can you check him for any injuries?" he explained. "Of course, my friend. Reb, get the first aid kit," she said. Rebekah immediately went to the kitchen, grabbed the kit, and then tossed it to Rachel, who was checking on Jonah. "Adam! It's me, your father. It's okay," Six called out, trying to get his son to snap out of it. Adam's eyes slowly started to regain light in them again until he finally appeared more human-looking. His son looked at him, then at himself. "What..." "You attacked your little friend here, but relax, if you didn't attack, then the organization wouldn't be weakened," Six explained. Adam looked at Jonah, his face unreadable. "Is he hurt?" Adam asked. "For now, no; you just made him lose consciousness when you attacked him in the woods," Rachel explained. "It's best we..."
Just then, Mark walked into the living room half asleep. His brown hair was disheveled as he rubbed his eyes, but he fully woke up when he saw the scene in front of him: Jonah was passed out on the couch, with his ankle handcuffed to the couch by Rachel, while Adam looked like he was on crack, and Rebekah and Six froze in place, looking at him. "You know what! I'm not going to ask, whatever." He gestured around at whatever scheme Six was pulling now. "This is..." He immediately turned around, walking back to where his room was. "I'm waking up Cesar, and we're dipping," Mark said, leaving to go to his room where his husband was sleeping. The two seemed to have finally settled into the house. Cesar walked out of the room wearing a dress shirt and pants, hurrying out the door while trying to put on his shoes. Mark followed behind him, now wearing a simple shirt, pants, shoes, and his favorite coat. Cesar walked up to a TV, touched the screen, and static appeared; the portal to the other side was open. "We're heading out, Six, but we'll be back soon," Cesar said, grabbing Mark's hand and guiding him into the alternate realm.
Six thanked his lucky stars that they had decided to leave the house to go on whatever adventures they were on as a married couple. After getting Adam to calm down and chaining Jonah to the couch, they got the full story from him. Jonah fell for the trick but freaked out when he saw Rachel's true form. Then a screaming match broke out between them, which ended with him driving away and Adam chasing him down. Still, he has mountains of proof that BPS was committing the crimes they were accused of doing, and he's ready to go where Six didn't want him to go, but it's the only way to corner them and then trap them. "Are you sure you want to go there?" Six asked as Adam put his foot through the TV. "I don't like them since she works with them, but it's the only way to trap them," Adam said. He looked at his father and then sighed. "Don't worry, I'll do it, and I'll be careful," Adam added.
Time skip.
The TV in the basement of the Mandela County police department had flicked on, and then static appeared. It took a few minutes because he had to make sure he didn't drop anything, and he had to make sure his bones were snapping back in place. Adam crawled out of the TV, with a box in hand, and into his very first police station that he had ever visited in his 19 years of living. After he fully got up, he quickly stretched his back, feeling all his bones snapping back in place. He looked around, then at the box of evidence against his girlfriend and friends. He wasn't comfortable with doing this, but he knew he had no other choice; he had to make them stop, he had to keep them safe, especially from him.
He moved his hand around the wall, hoping to at least find a light switch to see where the exit of the basement was, so he could just drop off the evidence at the front desk and leave this building. He didn't trust the police, not after what they did to Mark. He groaned, finding it difficult to locate something. ‘You'd think if I'm a half-bred Alternate, I would have inherited something to help me see in the dark,’ he thought. Once he found the light switch, he immediately flicked it on, the light filling the room too quickly, causing his eyes to burn. "Fuck! That hurts," he mumbled, rubbing his eyes. His eyes scanned the basement, and he saw the stairway leading up to the rest of the department. He immediately went upstairs, slowly opened the door, and then peeked through. No one was here, not Evelyn, especially not her. He walked into the station, and his jaw dropped; this was the first time in all his years of living that he had seen a police station, let alone a part of the town. Adam grew up in isolation in the more rural part of town and was never allowed outside of the territory. It was just him, his father, Rachel, Rebekah, N, Cesar, and Mark for all his life. He saw multiple photos of the police officers, rewards, and missing persons reports, mainly children. One caught his eye; he walked up to the photo and saw it was a female police officer holding a reward, smiling happily. Her name was Gabriella Ana Torres, the sister of Cesar and Benny. 'Huh, so this is your sister, Benny? Now that will be interesting once she finally catches you,' he thought, walking away from the photos and toward the front desk. Adam quickly left, going down into the basement and quickly entering the TV again.
Adam appeared on the other side of the TV, clawing his way through the screen. He fell into the alternate dimension, landing on his ass and letting out a surprised yelp, but he got up, swallowing his pride. He looked around, trying to find a screen to hopefully claw his way through; he really needed to get out of here, and he wasn't in the mood to fight another Alternate. He searched for any screen that was not near Mandela County. He walked for a while, looking for anything and keeping an eye out for the more aggressive alternates, since he was in a territory that wasn't his father's. Then he saw something in the distance that caught his eye. the van's GPS screen. He frowned, looked at it, then back at the TV from the police department. He weighed his options of getting caught by the police or enduring three hours of pain for crawling through a small screen and getting his insides crushed. There was a pro, and there was a con. Until he realized that it wasn't worth getting caught by the police so soon. He took a deep sigh before pressing his hands against the screen. He bit his lips; this was going to be painful. Once he started to press through, he felt his body immediately flatten and felt his organs getting mixed around underneath his skin. After some crawling and a lot of screaming, he landed in the back seat of the van with a thud. He lay down on the seat, trying to catch his breath; he gritted his teeth as his bones slowly stitched themselves back together. 'That was fucking stupid of me!' he thought. After a few minutes, he was finally able to sit up again. The driver's door was wide open, with the keys in the same spot where he had strangled Jonah into unconsciousness. He quickly grabbed them, turned on the van, and pulled out of where Jonah had crashed the van. He drove back to the main road. Some minutes later, he saw BPS headquarters coming into view.
