Blood wasn't an unfamiliar smell for Minjeong.
The tangy metallic scent has been burned into her brain since childhood. It didn't matter if it was hers or another; Minjeong knew the smell of blood.
That's why she is not fazed when she's on her walk home late at night, and as she wipes her face, the familiar scent is all she can smell. Her shoulders ache, and her left pinky is most definitely broken, but that doesn't matter. She just needs to get home so she can shower and rinse away the day's activities.
Two men, she had to take on two grown men. It was hard, almost frustratingly difficult. But it was worth it; they had badmouthed Jimin, and she asked Minjeong to take care of them. Minjeong is nothing if not keen to fulfill Jimin’s requests, no matter how dangerous.
Jimin is her driving force, her true reason to get up every morning. She was beautiful, her hair long, silky corvine. Her eyes were sharp and piercing. The quirk of her lips was almost always hiding something, frequently pulled into a smirk, sly, and warning to those around her. She was a god; at least she was to Minjeong.
She was waiting in Minjeong’s apartment by the time she had gotten home, lounging on her couch, looking nothing short of beautiful. Lips pulled into that teasing smirk as she stood to greet Minjeong, gently slipping her bag and jacket off Minjeong’s shoulders. Minjeong just sighs and lets her head hang, resting gently against Jimin’s shoulder. The older girl's delicate fingers gently run through Minjeong’s short, overgrown mullet, and she gently guides Minjeong’s eyes to her own. Effectively pinning them to the door, Jimin leans in and just barely whispers against Minjeong’s lips, “Did you take care of them for me, baby?” All the shorter girl can do in response is nod before Jimin pulls away abruptly.
“Good,” Jimin smiles sweetly before gathering her things off the couch. “I'm staying at Jen’s tonight. You don’t mind, right?” Minjeong shakes her head softly as she pushes off the door and walks up to Jimin. The taller girl takes Minjeong’s face in her hands and strokes her cheeks softly. “You're so helpful cutie,” she says with a sickly sweet smile before she pats her on the cheek twice and walks out the door.
The night is quiet and dark; well, it's not quiet . The walls of Minjeong's apartment are almost frustratingly thin; she can hear every word out of her disgusting neighbor's mouth. God, the way that man talks to his girlfriend is vile. Minjeong has half a mind to take care of him and give the poor girl a chance to live.
Nevertheless, she gathers herself before heading to the shower so she can finally fall asleep for the night.
Jimin is kind; she always has been. Ask any of her friends, and they’d tell you she was the kind of person who'd give you the jacket off her back if you were cold, shed spot your meal if you didn't have enough cash, and insist you didn't have to pay her back. So ask anyone, and they'd tell you Jimin is kind, but she's also calculating . Everything she does is with her best interest in mind. Every step she takes has a purpose; every piece of clothing she owns she's bought for a particular reason; and every smile she's shared was calculated to best benefit her.
Maybe that's why she and Minjeong are such a good pair; they both do everything for a reason they both do everything with Jimin’s best interest in mind.
That's why she doesn't flinch when Jimin spits insults at her and calls her a sick, vile, and violent creature. Minjeong knows that Jimin says these things because she's kind. She just wants what's best for herself, and who could blame her? It's a good quality to have.
When the door slams behind Jimin, leaving behind a trail of her sweet scent and the memory of her beautiful face, Minjeong isn't phased. Jimin will come back when she needs Minjeong. She will always need Minjeong.
They met when Minjeong was 18; Jimin had walked up to her in physiology class, her beautiful full lips pulled into that signature smirk, and she asked to sit next to the younger girl. Of course, rumors spread like wildfire instantly. Why was the beautiful, popular, kind Jimin hanging out with a dangerous person like Minjeong?
If you asked Jimin, she would tell you that Minjeong was cute, a nice plaything who was willing to do whatever Jimin wanted. She was useful to Jimin.
But if you asked Minjeong, she would sigh wistfully and say, “Because we are in love.” Don't be mistaken; Minjeong isn't fully deluded. During that first year, Jimin would always tell her, “You know I love you right?” after they argued.
She’d smile as she sat in Minjeong’s lap and whisper sweetly “You're my favorite
The first time she ever asked Minjeong to take care of someone, she said so sweetly, “You’ll do it because you love me right?” So of course Minjeong helped; she loved Jimin, and Jimin loved her.
The first time Minjeong brought up her situation with Jimin to her best friend Aeri, the older girl seemed concerned. Mainly about the age difference, but Minjeong would argue that it's okay. 18 and 25 weren't that big of a deal, plus Jimin treats her so sweetly. Aeri was just jealous, single, bitter.
Minjeong was exhausted; Jimin wasn't answering her texts or her calls. The younger girl was stressed; what if something bad happened? No, everything was fine. There was a reasonable explanation for everything. Jimin would explain everything soon.
“I'm sorry it had to be like this puppy. I still love you; you know that, right?”
Married, Jimin was getting married to some ugly rich man who probably didn't even love her. Not like how Minjeong does. Couldn't Jimin see that? No one would ever be able to treat her like Minjeong does.
“What?” Her voice cracks, and she hates herself for it.
“It’s out of my hands.” Jimin’s voice sounds pitying, almost mocking. Minjeong feels sick. Her hands tremble, and she almost drops the phone pressed to her ear. “My parents want me to marry him; you understand cutie. But you’ll be good for me while I’m gone, won’t you?”
Jimin must take her silence as confirmation. The gentle click of the call ending is nauseating, rage-inducing, and deadly.
Minjeong hates police stations; the first time she came to one was when her father died and her mother had been arrested; the second time was when her brother was arrested, and he called Minjeong crying, begging her to bail him out. Police stations meant someone she loved was being taken away from her. So when she sits in the interrogation room, two concerned-looking officers questioning her about Jimin's disappearance, her skin crawls.
They ask her unhelpful questions. ‘When did you see Miss Yu last?’ When she left Minjeong’s apartment at midnight 3 days ago, ‘Did you talk to anyone else that night, anyone who could confirm your alibi?' She had gone to see Aeri right after Jimin left; they got drinks. ‘Did you ever meet Miss Yu’s fiancé?’. Don't call him that; he was an ugly, weak man who didn't even put up a fight ; no, Minjeong didn't even know his name.
She didn't need to know his name; all she knew was he was bad for Jimin, so Minjeong took care of him. Jimin had become bad for herself, so Minjeong took care of her too.
Jimin had always told her she looked good in red, especially after minjeong fulfilled one of her requests. She’d sat with her knees bracketing minjeong fully pressed against her she whispered against Minjeong’s lips “You look so good dripping in blood baby” Jimins delicate fingers ran through Minjeong’s hair gripping tightly before she yanked backward hard, exposing her supple neck, “You’d steal for me right cutie?”
“Yes,” the younger girl's response is breathy and airy,
“You’d kill for me right?” MInjeong’s hands fall to her waist gripping tighter, “Please,”
“Do it again”
Blood wasn't unfamiliar to Minjeong.
The deep red color has been so present and consistent in her life for so long that it was almost comforting and beautiful. Jimin always looked good in red.
She looks so beautiful right now, her face still, peaceful. Her body was covered in that beautiful crimson color. Minjeong hopes she looks beautiful right now. Her clothes covered, stained by the blood of her lover.
Sitting next to Jimin she smiles looking over her, the cigarette between her fingers burns and fills the air, filling her lungs with smoke.
Minjeong looks down at Jimin’s lifeless body, she runs a hand through her long black hair as she smiles, and whispers, “I’ll always kill for you baby”
