Chapter Text
"UA high school! That's the best hero school!" Her teacher widens her eyes at reading the school admission sheet but quickly gives her a smile. "But if anyone is going to join it'll be you, Hoshino!"
"Hehe, you flatter me, Sensei." Ichika answers with a wide smile. The class is soon dismissed and as Ichika is walking out of the classroom she receives a nudge from her best friend, Rika.
"Wow~! You weren't kidding when you said you wanted to go to UA." Her blue haired friend said with a smile.
"Of course not, you know how much I've been wanting to go to UA!" Ichika answers back, with even more excitement.
"You did say you wanted to be a hero since elementary! Who knew you would be one of the lucky few to actually reach there!" Rika said with a wistful smile.
"I was lucky to get my quirk, but don't forget I've also trained hard." Ichika told her friend. "Besides I haven't been accepted yet, I still need to pass the entrance exam."
As they walked, Ichika waved to different schoolmates. Even as she walked she could hear the excited whispers from different students as they gossiped that she had applied to UA.
"Yes, yes I know! I've had the displeasure to be your sparring partner." Rika said, sarcastically.
"Hey, you volunteered." Ichika replied with a grin as she remembered those trainings and how fast Rika gave up. "You know how important it is for me to become a Pro hero."
Rika rolled her eyes, "Yeah, yeah. Well instead of thinking about being a hero or whatnot." She began to grin excitedly. "You should be thinking of your soulmate~!"
The dreaded words made Ichika's smile disappear in an instant, with it the happiness and joy she had felt, instead being replaced with anger and frustration.
A soulmate, the person who is destined to be my ideal partner. The one that is bound to bring me unbelievable happiness.
Or so they say, but I call bullshit.
Less than 10% of the population had a soulmate mark. It wasn't something common, it was even rarer than being born quirkless. People around her always told her how lucky she was. But she had never felt lucky, on the contrary, all it did was bring her shame and frustration from having it.
All because of the first words her soulmate will say to her.
Don't get in my fucking way, loser!
Those demeaning words have been etched on her skin since she was but a child. Those words were written on the lower side of her stomach, the crude words written in pretty cursive.
She has loathed the words that her 'soulmate' will say when they first meet.
Many envied her when they find out she has a soulmate but that envy soon turns to pity, shock, or both combined when they read the words.
She has tried to keep it a secret as much as she could. Her best friend Rika, being one of the few who knew about it.
Her soulmate has pretty much dwarfed her view of romance. Well romance for herself anyway, she still enjoyed watching romance drama and listening to her friends' love life.
"Ugh, and why should I be thinking of that jerk?" Ichika said with disdain in her voice.
"Don't talk like that about him! You haven't even met him." Rika scolded her.
"His first words to me tell me everything I need to know about him." Ichika scoffed. "He's a rude, arrogant jerk."
"Don't assume! Maybe your first meeting led him to say something like that." Rika kept defending Ichika's soulmate much to her annoyance.
Easy for you to say, you're not stuck with him.
Ichika rolled her eyes but kept her thoughts to herself.
Rarely anyone had to deal with a soulmate so it was easy for others to fantasize on the idea of a soulmate.
Soulmate marks appear the same year the quirk manifests, Ichika has had her soulmate mark since she was four years old.
There were different types of soulmate marks, some had a timer that would stop once they met one another, others had a tattoo of a splash of colors that would darken or lighten depending on their mood; some were only able to see the world through a lens the color of their soulmate's eyes—up until they met and they were able to see the world the way it actually looks, others can write and draw on their skin which will magically appear on their soulmate's skin and others dream about their soulmate before meeting them.
In Ichika's case, she had the writing of the first words that they would say to each other.
Unfortunately for Ichika, her soulmate's first words to her are mean and rude and she's had to live with those words etched to her skin since she was a toddler. Because of that she's had mixed emotions of meeting him. A part of her is curious about who her mystery soulmate is and what kind of person he is but another part of her just wants to beat him up for saying those things to her and she having to live with a tattoo that read, 'Don't get in my fucking way, loser!'
She had never been spoken to with such disrespect, her family loved her and treasured her, her classmates and friends liked and admired her, her teachers liked her and respected her.
How could someone that's supposed to love me more than anyone in the world, treat me like that?
That saddened Ichika, but she preferred to turn that sadness into determination to complete her goal.
And that was to become a Pro Hero.
I want to make the world a better place, I want to save people, just like I was saved in the past.
I'll show him! I'll become one of the best Pro Heroes and I'll make him eat his words.
"Uh... Ichika? Why are you clenching your fist?" Rika asked, puzzled.
Ichika blinked before unclenching her fist and lowering it.
"No reason."
Ichika decided to get her soulmate out of her mind and instead focus on the UA Academy entrance exam.
Months passed and before long it was time for the UA entrance exam. Ichika had trained hard, in order to prepare for the test. She had studied both her mind and body to prepare for both the physical and exam portion.
Ichika planted both feet firmly on the ground, stopping in place to gaze up at the colossal building that stood before her. She felt her heartbeat running rampant in her chest, with no sign of slowing down.
So this is U.A Academy...I'm so excited!
Ichika headed over to the auditorium, where she was to be debriefed. She tried to remain composed, and keep her excitement contained, but it was impossible. Ichika had dreamed of this day. She hummed gleefully, hopping joyously into the school grounds.
As Ichika neared the building, she began to see more and more students, collecting into large throngs as they too headed over to attempt the entrance exam. Some of them seemed fairly confident, while others looked more nervous.
Ichika waves hello at her schoolmates that also decided to apply before sitting down next to them.
Not long after, a blonde man with a flashy hairstyle and loud voice began speaking. It only took a few seconds for her to recognize him as Present Mic, a Pro hero.
After Present Mic's overly-dramatic explanation of the relatively simple rules, she along with the rest of the applying students were taken to the examination grounds, gaping in awe at the sheer size of the city replica where the fighting of giant robots for points was going to take place.
No wonder UA is the top hero school...
But not long after the amazement, came worrying thoughts. Mainly, the expected anxiety that proceeded any important event. As much as Ichika tried to rationalize it, it was simply too important for her not to feel jitters.
I can do this.
I've trained long and hard for this, I can't give up now...!
"AAAnd... Start!!"
With only winning in mind, Ichika shot forward, not minding the rest of the students' confused expressions.
"What's wrong? The exam has begun!! Run! Run!!" the Pro hero exclaimed.
Only then did the rest of the students run as well. Ichika let out a smirk at having the slight speed advantage.
Before long, she noticed a large, hulking mass of metal making its way towards her. The plating on its front held a large number 2 etched across it, indicating that it was worth two points.
She narrowed her violet eyes at her target before magenta orbs surrounded her palms and with a jump, she raised her arms and threw multiple magenta orbs towards the robot, impaling its sturdy frame. It halted abruptly in place, toppling to the ground with a large clunk.
Ichika let out a victorious cry. "Gotcha!"
Without missing a beat, she quickly spotted another robot coming at her from the side. She dashed towards the robot before putting her palms together, and creating a much larger magenta orb, and releasing it at a close enough distance. The robot barely had time to raise its hand before it received the attack and fell in one swoop.
Before she can cheer at the fast victory, she hears a cheer behind her.
"Wooow! You're awesome!" A boy with spiky black hair and a friendly smile gushed.
"Thanks!" Ichika grinned.
"Wow, that's a pretty cool quirk you got there! Almost as cool as this other guy with an explosion quirk." He smiled.
An explosion quirk? That does sound pretty cool.
"Thanks, my quirk is called plasma manipulation." Ichika says, opening her palm, and a magenta orb soon materializes on top of it.
"Wow, such a nice flashy quirk!" He complimented. "My name is Kirishima Ejirou, how about you?"
"My name is Hoshino Ichika." Ichika smiled back. "Well gotta get back to it." Ichika said and began turning away.
"Oh! Don't go that way, I just came from there. The explosion guy is there and he's destroying any robot in his path. This other guy took down a robot that he was fighting with and the explosion guy yelled his head off." The black haired boy warned.
Damn, the last thing I want is to fight over a robot with some hothead.
"Gotcha, well thanks, I'll head this other way then." Ichika thanked, and turned the opposite way.
"No problem!"
Hmm, I might be able to see more robots that aren't being attacked from up than if I stay on ground.
With that last thought, Ichika activates her quirk, and plasma shoots off from under her feet and soon she is lifted off the ground.
"Whaaaat?? You can fly too?!" Kirishima gasped.
Ichika giggled from his shocked expression before shooting him a smile. "Good luck!"
Ichika barely heard his reply, "You too!" Before flying ahead and inspecting the situation from above.
I made the right move, there's a lot of people fighting robots this way.
Her eyes soon widen when she sees a blonde boy using explosions to get ahead all while destroying a nearby robot.
"What? I thought the explosion boy was in the other direction. He must have already finished the robots from that side, if he's here." Ichika mumbled to herself.
"This robot is mine! Out of my way, extra!!" She heard him yell at another boy.
"Ugh, yeah I definitely don't wanna deal with that guy. I really hope someone gets him off his high horse though." After shooting the blonde a disapproving glance, she flies ahead until she finds a mostly desolate area with 3 robots nearby.
Jackpot!
Ichika puts her palms together making a magenta beam come out of her hands, hitting the robot in the center. Ichika's feet touch the ground in the same second the robot crumbles down.
She hears a noise behind her and sees the 2 robots coming her way. A smirk forms on her face, magenta plasma orbs form on her palms.
Come at me!
Minutes passed and after finishing off countless robots, time was up.
Ichika crumpled weakly to the ground, letting out pants of exhaustion. She wiped the sweat off her forehead before letting out a relieved smile.
If my math is correct, I should have about 55 points.
She wasn't sure of her exact score but she knew she had defeated enough robots to pass.
"Thank you again!" A girl waves at her before walking ahead.
"No problem!" Ichika replied while waving back.
During her exam, there were two instances where students were having trouble with robots and she finished the robots off before anyone could get harmed.
Phew, thankfully I had a good pace defeating robots that helping others didn't get in the way of my exam.
Besides, I'm trying to be a hero. And heroes save others!
A week later, her long-awaited letter U.A letter arrived at her home.
"Ichika! Ichika! It's here! It's finally here!" Her Mom shouted excitedly as she waved the letter up and down.
Ichika's violet eyes brightened and an excited smile appeared on her lips.
"Gimme, gimme!"
She takes the letter from her Mom and begins opening it but is stopped by her Dad's voice.
"It's here?! Kaito! Get over here! Your sister's acceptance letter arrived!!"
She chuckles and smiles at her Dad, "I still haven't been accepted but thank you for the vote of confidence, Dad!"
He flashes her a thumbs up and a second later her younger brother Kaito appears with a relieved expression.
"You got accepted?!"
"I don't know, Dad's getting ahead of himself." Ichika sighed. "Okay! Everyone, sit down I'm about to open it!"
Her family quickly joined her on the couch and waited eagerly.
Ichika opens up the letter but to her surprise, a small projector chip falls open. This activates a hologram to display itself above her lap.
"I CAME HERE AS A PROJECTION!" a gruff voice exclaims and Ichika jolts in place, not expecting to see the face of All Might.
"Wow! It's All Might?!" Kaito shouts, excitedly.
"Shhh! Let All Might talk!" Her Mom says shushing her brother.
"Young lady, you are probably wondering why I'm here in this hologram!?" All Might says.
"Heh, well yeah?" Ichika says with a slight smile, her heart still thumping from the surprise.
"Actually, I came to this town to work at U.A.," he explains. "So there's no doubt you'll be seeing me as a teacher!"
"Oh my god!" Ichika shouts.
"You'll have All might as your teacher?!" Kaito exclaimed. "Lucky!"
"This aside, I'm here to discuss the results of your entrance exam," All Might clears his throat. "Hoshino Ichika! You passed the written exam with nearly perfect marks, and you scored 55 villain points in the physical exam!"
Ichika's heart was beating miles a minute as she waited for All Might to continue. Her family waiting with bated breath right besides her.
"55 villain points, as impressive as it is, still wouldn't put you in the top 10," All Might continues. His words make her heart sink but he continues, "BUT!"
But what?!
"The entrance exam was not only graded on villain points! How can a hero course reject students who save others and do the right thing!? Now, of course, this leads to rescue points!"
Ichika blinks.
T-that makes sense! We want to be heroes, we need to save people!
"There were two instances where fellow students were saved by you. One when you saved a young girl from being mauled from a robot and another when you saved a young man that was distracted and was about to get hit by a robot!"
"You're amazing, sweetie!" Her Mom complimented her.
"I expect nothing less from my little girl!" Her Dad exclaimed.
"Shhh! Let All Might talk!" This time it was Kaito's turn to shush his parents, which made Ichika chuckle at the sight.
"They're given by a panel of judges. This is the other basic ability we at U.A. look at! Young Hoshino Ichika, I'm exceedingly proud to say you've scored in second place with a total of 75 points!"
Ichika along with her family gasp loudly.
Second place?!
She notices that someone named Bakugo Katsuki was named right above her, beating her for 2 points.
"So, young lass..." All Might leans in closer to the screen. "Welcome to your hero academia! You'll be in Class 1-A. Good luck!"
The projection closes, and a squeal bubbles up in her throat as Ichika hugs her family close.
"Congrats baby!" Her Mom squeals.
"You deserve it!" Her Dad exclaimed.
"Aghhh, can't breathe...!" Kaito chokes out.
"Thank you, thank you!!" Ichika gleefuly thanks her family.

This is a Bakugo Katsuki x OC fanfiction, but you can easily read it as an X Reader if that's what you prefer, just replace the name Hoshino Ichika with whatever you want.I made another My hero Academy fanfic! This time centered on everybody's favorite bad boy Bakugo! I was excited to write about the entrance exam as I didn't write about that in my Shouto story as Akari got in through recommendations.
Anyway, Ichika and Bakugo will meet in the next chapter, hope you're excited for that! I know I am!
So plasma manipulation, if you wanna have an idea of what her quirk is like it's kind of like Starfire's from Teen Titans and Sheego's from Kim Possible. Something like that. I also found some cool moves online that go with her quirk. Either way, you will learn more about her quirk in the upcoming chapters.
Plasma manipulation can be kind of hard to explain so here's a wiki that can explain it much better than I ever could. https://powerlisting.fandom.com/wiki/Plasma_Manipulation
Also if you're wondering how she even got this quirk, her Mom has a quirk called Ionization and her Dad has a quirk called Gas manipulation.
Put it together and you get plasma manipulation!

For anyone coming from Quotev wondering why my story is no longer there anymore is because Quotev deleted it.
Shortly before Quotev deleted it, some commenters made me aware that some parts of the fanfic have excerpts from a fanfic called Speak by Kikyo851. After reviewing it, I confirmed this, and I have rewritten/changed/deleted all of those excerpts of my fanfic and made changes to some other parts as well.
Now I'd like to explain, I have a friend who helped me co-write my fanfiction, she wrote those parts and I hadn't realized they were from Kikyo's story as it has been a long time since I've read it. I did take inspiration from her wonderful story but never plagiarized from her myself. Since this is my story It's still my responsibility, I do want to apologize to Kikyo for this happening.
As previously mentioned, I've rewritten/changed/deleted all of the parts written by my friend, even those who have nothing to do with Kikyo's story, just for good measure.
Again, I apologize, and this will not happen again.
