Work Text:
Some say it's taboo when fall comes around. Others say it's a blessing. Some don't know what to think and prefer to just go along with others.
In the colder times, the flowers wilt and trees loose their leaves. The birds all fly south while the rabbits dig their burrows. The wind blows the clouds in and out of view. The weather does not have a set path, merely going however it pleases. Schools come back together, welcoming new students, new friends made, and new opportunities open.
The people go back and forth between clothes, the styles changing and decorations emerging. It's a festive time, despite the lose of color. While some may see dreariness, others see opportunity.
When the Spooky Season approaches, we remember our pasts but do not forget to look towards the future. People allow themselves to divert from the path of adulthood and become a child again. Dressing up and eating candy, watching scary movies and listening to holiday music. Telling spooky stories and playing in the leaves.
Eating food while seeing loved ones after a long time. Catching up and promising to see each other again soon. Telling the tales of old and songs of new.
And when the season ends, a new one begins, and the pattern is repeated.
But it is not something to be sad about. Not when the weather grows colder and the trees more bare. Not when the sun disappears for days or when the ground turns white. Not when the clouds cry and the fires stutter.
For celebration is around the corner. A warm time that invites all to join. Family once again joining together to honor ancestors and celebrate the times. Gifts exchanged and love told. Movies watched while setting up trees, photos snapped to capture beautiful moments in time. Sacrifices appreciated and told. Hello's and Goodbye's said, tears shed, and laughter spread.
For then the season changes once more. The sun comes back to say hello before disappearing just below. Birds fly back and animals emerge. Flowers begin to poke through the ground, proving with hard work anything can be achieved. Leaves grow back and crickets fill the night. Showers of rain provide the joy of puddles and mud.
The sun begins to visit more and more, the air growing warmer and the days grow longer. Schools are out and the rivers and lakes filled with people all having fun. Adventures are set in place and quests are in motion. New hobbies emerge and talents are shared with the world. Friends meeting up to hang out and catch up, little ones playing with others outside in the sun. Trips are taken and vacations welcome. Beaches filled and malls walked.
But then the air grows colder, winds coming in before settling back down. And so the cycle begins anew.
Much joy can be found within it if you only know where to look.
It's the way of life, and it's a promise that is kept.
