1: Wounds

Workers were moving in and out of the crime scene, their faces hidden behind masks, gloves covering their hands as they avoided touching anything directly. The air was thick with the smell of rot, a stench so foul that even professional officers were visibly struggling.

Naruto entered the scene, a wave of nausea hitting him like a punch. The smell was suffocating, clawed at his senses. He pulled the mask tighter over his face, though it barely helped.

Three bodies lay sprawled on the floor in unnatural positions. One victim was missing a leg entirely, severed with a brutality that spoke of a deep, personal rage. The other two were lying on the ground, neat bullet holes in their skulls, their eyes wide open, frozen in terror. Blood pooled around them, thick and dark.

Naruto swallowed hard. He had seen his share of brutalities, but this—this was different. There was a cruelty to it, a message hidden within the carnage.

“What happened here?” he asked, his voice low and steady as he approached Gaara, his partner who stood near the doorway, pale under the flickering overhead lights.

Gaara’s voice was barely above a whisper. “We think it’s The Ripper again.”

Naruto's chest tightened. This killer was different. Calculated. Precise. Merciless.

“Any clues?” Naruto asked, hopeful for even the smallest thread to pull.

Gaara’s tired eyes met his. “Nothing. No fingerprints, no DNA. The guy’s a ghost.”

Lee awoke with a sharp intake of breath, his vision swimming in a sea of blurred shapes and harsh, flickering light above him. His body was heavy, his limbs stiff. Blinking rapidly, the blurriness began to fade, revealing the cold, filthy tiles of an old bathroom.

But what snapped him into reality wasn’t the smell of rot in the air—it was the body. A man lay crumpled on the floor, blood thick around him, a gun loosely clutched in his lifeless hand.

Lee’s heart pounded in his chest, each beat like a drum in his ears. Panic clawed at his throat as he forced himself to tear his eyes away from the corpse. His gaze darted across the room, landing on the familiar face of someone else.

“Shikamaru?” Lee’s voice was uncertain, as if he didn’t trust his own eyes.

Shikamaru, on the other side of the room, let out a long, exhausted sigh. “That’s me,” he confirmed, though his voice lacked its usual dry tone. His face was pale, his eyes dark with fear.

“Where are we?” Lee asked, his voice trembling as he took in their surroundings—the dirty, cracked tiles, the rusted bathtub, and the damp ceiling. His breath hitched when he looked down and realized that a heavy iron chain was attached to his ankle, linking him to a rusted pipe on to the wall.

“I don’t know,” Shikamaru replied, his voice low, thick with unease. He was trapped too, the metal chain heavy as he shifted against the wall. “I just woke up here.”

Lee yanked at his chain desperately, but it didn’t move. His heart raced as he checked his pockets, hoping for something—anything—to help him get free. His fingers brushed against something hard. A tape.

Written on the tape, barely readable in the dim light, were two words: "Play me."

“Shikamaru,” Lee said, his voice strained with urgency, “do you have something to play this?”

Shikamaru quickly searched his own pockets, his movements frantic. His hand closed around something—a small tape recorder.

“Here.” Shikamaru threw it across the room, the recorder skittering across the grimy tiles. Lee fumbled but caught it.

With shaking hands, Lee inserted the tape. As soon as it clicked into place, a voice crackled to life from the recorder—low, distorted beyond recognition.

“Hello Lee. I see you’re awake. The room you're in now could very well be your grave. For years, you’ve stood in the shadows, watching others live their lives while you linger in the background. Today, you won’t have that luxury.”

Lee’s blood turned to ice. The voice paused, leaving an silence that hung in the air like a curse.

“And you, Shikamaru,” the voice continued, more deliberate now, “you’ve spent your life delivering death sentences without a second thought. Now, you will be the instrument of death. You must kill Lee. You have until six o’clock. If you fail, your wife dies.”

The recorder clicked off, leaving the two of them in suffocating silence.

╾╾╾╾╾╾╾

Naruto crouched by the bodies, his gloved hand hovering over the pale, lifeless forms. Their skin clung to their bones, sickly white, as if they had been drained of life for days.

He reached for one of the bodies, his breath shallow behind his mask. As his fingers touched the corpse's arm, the skin peeled away unnaturally—soft and wet, like it had been rotting from the inside. A shiver ran down Naruto’s spine, his instincts screaming that something was very, very wrong.

Beneath the peeling flesh, something caught his eye—a small, blood-soaked paper folded into the wound.

Naruto’s hands trembled as he unfolded it, the blood staining his gloves as he read the chilling message scrawled in dark, uneven ink: “I am closer than you think.”

His heart thudded in his chest. "Closer?" His mind raced with possibilities. The Ripper always had a way of making his work personal, but this—this felt intimate, like the killer was watching him.

Naruto stepped away from the bodies, dread sinking deeper into his bones. He passed the note to Gaara, his voice steady despite the cold sweat forming on his back.

“Check for fingerprints,” Naruto said, though deep down he already knew what Gaara would find. Nothing.

As Naruto walked back to his car, the words echoed in his mind. "Closer than you think." For reasons he couldn't explain, a chill ran down his spine.

2: Us

Naruto knocked on the house door, his movements slow and heavy with exhaustion. The door went open, revealing Sasuke’s sharp gaze, taking in every detail of Naruto’s tired expression.

"You look tired," Sasuke said, his voice soft. His lips quirked into a smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes. "How was work?"

Naruto sighed and stepped inside, taking off his coat and tossing it carelessly over the nearest chair. "Like always. Dead bodies and a killer to catch."

Sasuke chuckled, though the sound was low, sending a chill down Naruto’s spine. "I made you dinner. It might help you relax." His hand brushed lightly against Naruto’s arm as he leaned in to kiss his cheek, the touch lingering just a moment too long.

Naruto’s muscles tensed, but he smiled, trying to let the warmth of being home remove the unease from the day. "Thanks," he murmured, though his thoughts were far from calm.

As Sasuke led him to the dining room, Naruto noticed how the atmosphere in their home felt different tonight—thicker. The flicker of candlelight brightened up the table where two plates were set.

Sasuke gestured for him to sit, pulling out the chair with care. "I made your favorite—ramen with extra pork," he said with a teasing smile, sitting down across from Naruto.

Naruto’s lips went up in a smile. "You always know how to make things better."

They started eating, but Naruto found it hard to focus on the food. The silence between them, once familiar and comfortable, now felt oppressive. His thoughts kept drifting back to the case—the bodies, the note, and the way everything felt like it was closing in around him.

Sasuke watched him with a quiet intensity, as if waiting for something.

"Still thinking about the case?" he asked, his voice cutting through the silence. He leaned forward slightly, his eyes gleaming in the dim light. "You don’t talk about your work much at home."

Naruto hesitated, his grip tightening on his chopsticks. He rarely shared details of his work with Sasuke, not wanting to taint their home with the blood and violence he encountered every day. But tonight, that boundary felt blurred. "Yeah... it’s been a tough one. The killer—it feels like they’re inside my head. Today, the scene was... especially strange."

Sasuke raised an eyebrow, a small smirk playing at the corner of his lips as he sipped his drink. "Strange how?"

Naruto rubbed the back of his neck, the unease he had been trying to suppress rising again. "Three bodies. Another note. This one said, 'I’m closer than you think.' It’s like they’re taunting me, like they know something I don’t." His voice was tight, the frustration evident in every word.

Sasuke’s smirk deepened, his eyes gleaming with something almost predatory. "That’s weird. Find anything else? Anything that might give you a lead?"

Naruto shook his head, suddenly feeling drained. "Not much. One of the corpses—his skin started peeling off when I touched him. That’s when I found the note, hidden underneath." He pushed his plate away, his appetite long gone.

For a second, Sasuke’s hand paused and his fork stopped mid-air. His expression didn’t change, but his voice dropped to a quiet murmur. "Starved, huh?" he said, his tone strangely intimate.

Naruto’s heart skipped a beat, his brows furrowing. "I didn’t mention that they were starved."

Sasuke blinked, his smirk slipping into a mask of confusion before his lips curled upward again, softer this time. "But you did." he said, his voice so calm, so smooth it felt almost rehearsed. "You must have. You’re exhausted Naruto."

Naruto’s frown deepened, his mind racing to retrace his words. Had he said that? The exhaustion made everything feel blurry, but something about Sasuke’s response didn’t sit right. "Maybe..." Naruto muttered, trying to ignore his feelings since he was too tired to confront it.

Sasuke’s hand reached across the table, fingers brushing lightly over Naruto’s wrist. "You’ve been working too hard. It’s no wonder things are starting to blur together." He rose from his seat, his movements slow and deliberate as he circled the table. His fingers trailed across Naruto’s shoulders, down his back, sending shivers through Naruto’s already tense body. "Let me help you forget about it."

Naruto closed his eyes, exhaling slowly as Sasuke’s hands kneaded the knots in his muscles. He needed to relax, to let go of the weight of the day, but something about the way Sasuke touched him—firm, possessive—felt different tonight. "I am overthinking again." Naruto thought and pushed his thoughts aside.

Sasuke’s lips ghosted over Naruto’s neck, warm breath against his skin. "You don’t always have to be the hero," Sasuke whispered, his voice low. "Let me take care of you."

The heat from Sasuke’s lips sent sparks of desire down Naruto’s spine. He leaned back, his pulse quickening as Sasuke’s kisses trailed along his jawline, featherlight but burning with an intensity that left Naruto breathless.

Sasuke’s hands slid lower, brushing over Naruto’s chest, each touch more tense than the last. His lips found Naruto’s ear, his voice a hushed murmur. "Come with me," he whispered, his breath hot against Naruto’s skin. "Let’s forget everything else."

Naruto didn’t resist as Sasuke pulled him from the chair, guiding him down the dimly lit hallway to their bedroom. The silence around them was thick, their footsteps muffled by the tension building between them.

As soon as the door closed behind them, Sasuke’s hands were on him again, more demanding now. Naruto’s back hit the wall, and Sasuke’s lips crashed against his, urgent and hungry. The kiss was filled with a dark intensity, a hunger that left Naruto dizzy, his breath coming in sharp, shallow bursts.

Sasuke’s hands roamed over his body, fingers digging into his skin with a possessiveness that made Naruto’s heart race. There was no space for thought, no room for murder and the creeping suspicion that had been gnawing at the edges of his mind. All that existed in this moment was the heat between them, the needs to lose himself in the feel of Sasuke’s body against his.

Naruto’s hands tangled in Sasuke’s hair as the kiss deepened, their breaths heavy and uneven. Sasuke’s lips moved down to his neck, biting and kissing in a way that sent electricity through Naruto’s veins. The feeling was overwhelming, consuming—almost enough to drown out the unease beneath the surface.

Almost.

"I love you," Naruto whispered between gasps, his voice barely audible.

Sasuke’s eyes flickered with something dark as he pulled back slightly, just enough to meet Naruto’s gaze. His lips curled into a slow, dangerous smile. "I know," he murmured before pressing his lips against Naruto’s once more, the kiss harder this time, almost punishing in its intensity.

And in that moment, Naruto let himself fall into it—into Sasuke’s touch, into the warmth, into his words.

3: Message

Sakura’s eyes snapped open, her heartbeat pounding against her ribs. The metallic taste of blood was on her tongue as she gasped for air. Her vision swam, adjusting to the dim room that smelled of decay and something worse.

A loud, mechanical click was able to be heard in the silence, followed by a steady, ticking noise.

She tried to move her head but found that something cold and heavy was strapped to her skull. Her hands flew to her face, trembling fingers brushing against the sharp edges of a steel contraption locked around her mouth and head—a bear trap. Panic went through her as she clawed at the device, feeling the metal bite into her skin.

Her breathing quickened, the ticking growing louder and louder, echoing in her skull like a countdown to her death.

Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock.

Suddenly, a screen flickered to life in front of her, casting a glow over the room. A distorted voice spoke through the speakers, cold and indifferent.

“Hello, Sakura. You have spent your years letting others suffer while you stood by, never stepping in, never taking responsibility. But today, you’ll have to act. The device strapped to your head is a reverse bear trap. When the timer reaches zero, the trap will spring open—tearing your jaw apart.”

Sakura let out a choked sob, her hands shaking violently as she gripped the cold metal of the trap.

“But,” the voice continued, “there is hope. The key to your salvation lies in the body of someone you once called a friend.”

Sakura’s eyes widened in horror as a spotlight flickered on, lightening the other side of the room. There, sitting against the wall, was Ino’s lifeless body. Her face was pale, her eyes open and glassy, staring into nothingness. Blood had pooled beneath her, and her stomach was cut open—a wound that revealed her bloody insides.

The voice on the screen continued, calm and unfeeling. “The key to your survival is inside her. You have sixty seconds. Make your choice.”

The timer on the trap began ticking faster, and Sakura’s mind went blank with panic. Her hands trembled as she looked from Ino’s body to the ticking device around her head. She wanted to scream, to cry, to wake up from this nightmare—but there was no time.

Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock.

Her body moved on instinct, controlled by raw survival. She crawled toward Ino’s body, feeling like vomiting as she stared at the gory mess before her. Her hands hovered over Ino’s abdomen, shaking violently. "I'm sorry... I'm so sorry," Sakura whispered, tears streaming down her face. But she had no choice.

Her fingers went into the wound.

The sensation was overwhelming—the warmth of Ino's blood, the slickness of her insides as Sakura’s hands searched desperately for the key. Her breath came in ragged gasps, mixing with her sobs.

Thirty seconds.

The ticking grew louder, faster, the sound drilling into her mind as the trap tightened slightly around her head. She could feel the sharp points of the metal pressing into her skin.

Her fingers brushed against something hard—a small, metal object deep inside the cavity.

Twenty seconds.

With a gasp of desperation, she yanked the key free, her hands slick with blood as she fumbled to fit it into the lock on the trap. Her vision blurred from the tears, her body trembling violently as the seconds slipped away.

Ten seconds.

The lock clicked.

With a final gasp, Sakura ripped the bear trap from her head and threw it aside just as the timer hit zero. The trap snapped open with a terrifying clang, the sound echoing through the room like a death knell.

For a moment, she just sat there, her body shaking as she stared at the blood-soaked floor beneath her. Her heart was still racing, her breath coming in shallow bursts. She had survived. But the weight of what she had done—what she had to do—hung heavy in the air.

Her eyes slowly turned to Ino’s body, and the reality of the situation crashed down on her like a wave. She let out a sob, collapsing onto the floor, her bloodstained hands covering her face as she cried.

The distorted voice crackled to life again. “Congratulations, Sakura. You’ve proven you’re willing to do what it takes to survive.”

The screen flickered off, sending the room back into darkness.

Sakura’s sobs were the only sound that remained before a door opened behind her.

╾╾╾╾╾╾╾

Naruto and Gaara stood in front of the old building, its once-white paint was now peeling like dead skin. The surrounding area was cordoned off, yellow police tape flapping in the wind like a warning. Inside was the place where Sakura had barely escaped with her life—and where someone else hadn’t been as lucky.

The air was thick with the stench of rot, blood, and fear as they entered. Gaara’s face was sharp, his green eyes scanning the room with the detachment of someone used to death. Naruto, though equally hardened, couldn’t shake the sense of dread that had clung to him since he had walked through the door.

Sakura had been found barely conscious outside, talking about a trap, a key, and the body of her friend, Ino. Her story wasn't complete, disjointed by the trauma of what she had endured. But one thing was clear—whoever they were after was getting bolder and more twisted.

As they stepped deeper into the room, the crime scene got worse before them. The reversed bear trap was on the floor, its sharp metal teeth shining in the dim light. Ino’s body was slumped against the far wall, her torso cut open with brutal precision.

Gaara’s mouth tightened as he approached the scene. “This is beyond anything we’ve seen before.”

Naruto nodded, swallowing hard against the bile rising in his throat. “She said the key was inside her... Ino, I mean.” His voice was low, filled with disbelief and disgust. “How can someone do this?”

Gaara didn’t answer. Instead, he kneeled beside the body, his gloved hands carefully inspecting the wounds. “This wasn’t just about killing. It’s sadistic—forcing someone to make that kind of choice.”

Naruto’s eyes scanned the room, every detail imprinting on his mind. The bloodstains on the floor. The scratches near the door where Sakura had tried to claw her way out. The walls, covered in grime and filth, seemed to close in on him as if the building itself was suffocating him.

But something else caught his eye.

Near the corner of the room, just out of sight, was a small piece of paper pinned to the wall. His heart raced as he approached it, his breath shallow as he unfolded the note.

It was a single word, written in almost mocking letters.

"Soon."

Naruto’s hand tightened around the note, his pulse quickening. He passed it to Gaara, who read it with a frown. "What the hell does that mean?" Gaara asked, his eyes narrowing.

Naruto shook his head, his thoughts swirling. “It feels like another taunt. Like... they’re always one step ahead of us.”

Gaara stood up, his face unreadable. “Let’s get this back to the lab. Maybe we’ll find something. I don’t like where this is going.”

They left the room in silence, the gravity of what they had seen weighing on both of them. The Ripper’s games were getting more dangerous, more personal. And Naruto couldn’t shake the feeling that they were walking right into another trap.

As they got into the police car, a cold shiver ran down Naruto’s spine. Something felt wrong, though he couldn’t place what it was. He settled into the passenger seat, staring out the window at the bleak, deserted street as Gaara started the engine.

"Think we’ll get anything out of Sakura when she calms down?" Gaara asked, his voice breaking the tense silence.

"Maybe," Naruto replied, his mind still turning over the note. "But I don’t think she knows much more. She’s just another piece in their game."

Gaara’s hand tightened on the steering wheel, his expression grim. “Whoever they are... they’re enjoying this. It’s not just about killing. It’s about control.”

Naruto nodded. "And they’re always in control."

The car’s engine roared to life, but before Gaara could pull away, the doors suddenly clicked—locking all at once. Naruto’s hand shot to the door handle, but it wouldn’t budge.

“Gaara... the doors...”

Gaara’s eyes widened, his hand quickly moving to unlock the doors from his side, but the mechanism was unresponsive. A soft hiss filled the car, and Naruto’s stomach dropped.

Gas.

Naruto’s pulse spiked as he realized what was happening. His hand flew to his mouth, but it was too late. A burning sensation was already creeping through his lungs as he inhaled the noxious fumes. "Gaara—!" he gasped, his voice strained, but Gaara was already coughing, his vision blurring.

The gas filled the car, thick and fast. Naruto’s head throbbed, his body sluggish as he drifted between consciousness and the black void that pulled at him.

Before he passed out, he heard a voice—a cold, distorted voice that sent a chill down his spine.

“You thought you were getting closer. But I’m always one step ahead, Detective.”

The words echoed in his mind, pulling him deeper into a slumber as darkness consumed him.

4: Sins

Naruto woke up in a dark, smelly room. He squinted his eyes a couple of times before it adjusted to the room lights. He noticed that he wasn't alone in the room, some unfamiliar faces and some familiar. Sakura was lying on the floor sobbing, and Gaara was standing near the metal door that was shut closed.

Naruto quickly stood up. "What is going on?" he asked. "We have been kidnapped." Gaara said, and as soon as those words left his mouth, his mind thrifted back to the car and the gas. They walked right into the Rippers trap.

"Somebody open the damn door!" Temari said as she walked towards the metal door and delivered a kick to it, but it didn't budge. Naruto knew her since she was at the police station before, had to get called in because of the death of her husband.

"I don't think anybody is listening," a girl with long black hair said, her voice quiet.

"Well, somebody is listening," a guy with long brown hair said, pointing to the camera. He had similar eyes to the girl before.

"No, these types of cameras don't have a sound." Gaara said.

Sakura started panicking as she stood up. "Calm down." Gaara said to her, but it didn't help much. "Where am I?" Sakura asked. "We don't know, we all just woke up here." Temari answered.

Sakura hit the wall "Not again.. this is one of his traps."

"The Rippers?" Naruto asked, and Sakura nodded her head.

"Who is that?" The girl with the black hair asked. "You guys don't watch the news? That's a serial killer." The brown haired guy replied.

"Greetings and welcome. You all must be wondering where you are, but I assure you that the location is not important. What these walls have to offer is important." A voice started to say, or better yet, the Rippers voice.

"Three hours from now the doors to this house will open, but you only have two hours to live. You have been breathing a toxic gas since you got here." The killer said, and that is when Naruto looked up and noticed a hole in the corner of a wall.

"If you don't find the antidote that is in a safe somewhere in this house, you will die. You all possess the combination to the safe. Think clearly, the numbers are all in the back of your mind. Let the game begin." Just as the killer finished his audio, a bullet hit Temaris head as she stood in front of the door. The sound echoed through the room as her body hit the floor and blood pooled around her. Screams were able to be heard as pits of Temari's brain were on the floor.

Naruto's eyes widened as he took a step back. Just like that, they had lost one person, a life that could have been saved. Suddenly the creaking of the metal door was able to be heard. Everyone stepped far away from the door as it slowly started to open.

Everything went quiet. No one came.

As Gaara saw no threat, he stepped forward and looked out of the room.

"No one here," he said. The other quickly followed him and went out of the room, not wanting to see the ugly scene anymore. Naruto, before leaving, crouched down next to Temaris body, and with shaky hands, he closed her eyes. "Rest in peace," he said before leaving the room.

╾╾╾╾╾╾╾

"Don't." Sasuke said, and Naruto let go of the door handle.

"Why? What is in there? You never let me go in that room." Naruto said, turning around to face Sasuke. "It is private." Sasuke said as he stepped closer to Naruto, almost chest to chest.

"So private that you can't even show it to your own husband?" Naruto said with a frown. Every time he tried to enter that room, Sasuke wouldn't let him.
He would spawn out of nowhere and get angry at him for sticking his nose into his buisness.

Sasuke sighed. "I told you once, and I will tell you again, in there are only drawings of buildings that I am making. That's it." He said harshly, obviously annoyed at Naruto's behaviour.

"Then you wouldn't mind me seeing it." Naruto said and turned around, opening the door to Sasuke's office. As he stepped in and went towards his desk, a bad feeling filled his stomach. Regret.

On the desk were only drawings of buildings, but for some reason Naruto expected something different.

"Happy now? Is this how little you trust me? You think I would lie to you?" Sasuke said, disappointment evident in his voice. "I... I am sorry." Naruto said, turning around, looking at the ground. He was too ashamed to look Sasuke in the eye.

╾╾╾╾╾╾╾

The group stepped into the dark hallway, the flickering lights overhead casting long shadows along the peeling walls. Each creak of the floorboards beneath their feet could be their last, and every breath was a hard effort as the toxic gas continued to invade their lungs.

Sakura’s breathing came in short gasps, her hand over her mouth as she walked, trying to suppress the rising panic in her chest. Naruto kept glancing over at her, wanting to offer comfort but feeling helpless. Gaara led the group with eyes forward, his mind racing for any clue or sign that could lead them to the antidote.

“This is sick,” the girl with the black hair muttered under her breath. Her name was Hinata—Neji’s cousin, Naruto had learned. Her eyes were wide, pupils filled with fear. Neji was walking beside her, his jaw set in grim determination.

“We need to find that safe,” Gaara said, scanning the empty rooms they passed. His voice was steady, but Naruto could hear the tension beneath it. "Two hours isn’t much time."

“How are we supposed to figure out the code when we don’t even know what numbers to look for?” Neji muttered, his frustration spilling over. He ran a hand through his long brown hair, visibly on edge.

“It’s in the back of your mind,” Naruto recalled the Ripper’s words. "Whatever that means."

Just then, Gaara stopped in front of a doorway, his sharp eyes catching something—a staircase that went into a darkened basement. The air that came up from the bottom was heavy, with a faint metallic scent that hung in the air.

"We should check down there," Gaara said, looking back at the others. The door creaked open wider, revealing the staircase leading down.

"I don’t like this," Sakura whispered, inching closer to Naruto, her face pale. "The air feels... worse down there."

Hinata's fingers clutched Neji's arm tightly, and even though she didn't speak, her fearful expression said enough.

"We don’t have a choice," Gaara said, his voice tight.

The group hesitated, their eyes exchanging silent, fearful glances, but one by one, they followed Gaara down.

5: Fun

The rain fell in slow, heavy drops against the window, each one rolling down the glass, blurring the darkening sky outside. Naruto stood in front of the window, his arms crossed over his chest, staring at the distorted city beyond. The air inside the house felt thick, almost oppressive. He didn’t know if it was from the tension between him and Sasuke or from something deeper—something he couldn’t quite put his finger on.

Behind him, Naruto could hear Sasuke moving around the kitchen, the soft clinking of dishes a strange contrast to the stillness that had settled over them. The silence was heavy, uncomfortable, like a storm waiting to break.

“I don’t like it when you stay out so late,” Sasuke’s voice finally broke through the quiet, low and calm but laced with a familiar possessiveness.

Naruto turned, his eyes meeting Sasuke’s across the room. Sasuke stood by the counter, his dark eyes watching him closely, as if measuring every breath Naruto took. His arms were crossed, his lean body tense, though his face remained impassive, a cold mask of indifference that Naruto had grown used to over the years.

“You know why I was out,” Naruto said, his voice steady. “I was working on a case.”

Sasuke’s lips curved into a small, humorless smile. “Yes, but it doesn’t take all night, does it? You could’ve come home earlier.”

Naruto felt a flicker of frustration flare in his chest. It was always like this with Sasuke—everything came back to control. The way he watched Naruto’s every move, the way he always seemed to want him closer, never letting him stray too far from his side. It was suffocating sometimes, this possessive love that wrapped around him like chains.

“I told you before,” Naruto said, trying to keep his voice calm, “the case is complicated. I can’t just drop everything and come home when you want me to.”

Sasuke’s eyes darkened at that, a dangerous glint flashing through them. He took a step closer, his movements slow and deliberate. Naruto’s heart quickened, the familiar tension creeping back into his veins.

“Are you sure that’s what it is, Naruto?” Sasuke asked, his voice low, almost a whisper. “Or is there something else? Someone else?”

Naruto’s eyes widened slightly, shocked by the accusation. “Sasuke, don’t start this again. There’s no one else. You know that.”

But Sasuke didn’t stop. He took another step closer, closing the distance between them until he was standing just inches away from Naruto. His hand came up, fingers brushing against Naruto’s cheek.

“I don’t like the thought of you being out there,” Sasuke murmured, his fingers trailing down to Naruto’s jaw, gripping it lightly, almost possessively. “Without me. I know what kind of danger lurks in this city. I know the kind of people you’re dealing with.”

Naruto swallowed hard, feeling the pull between them—the magnetic, dangerous tension that always seemed to hover beneath the surface. His body responded instinctively to Sasuke’s touch, a mixture of desire and unease swirling in his chest.

“I’m not a child, Sasuke,” Naruto said, his voice softer now, though there was a bite to his words. “You don’t have to keep me on a leash.”

Sasuke’s eyes narrowed at that, his grip tightening just slightly on Naruto’s jaw, enough to send a clear message. “I’m not keeping you on a leash,” Sasuke replied, his voice smooth, almost too calm. “I’m keeping you safe.”

Naruto’s heart thudded against his ribs, his pulse quickening under Sasuke’s intense gaze. Sasuke leaned in closer, his lips brushing against Naruto’s ear as he spoke, his breath hot against his skin.

“You belong to me, Naruto,” Sasuke whispered, the words sending a thrill down Naruto’s spine. “No one else gets to have you. Not the job, not the cases, no one. You’re mine.”

Naruto closed his eyes, his breath catching in his throat. There it was—the possessiveness, the dark side of Sasuke that he both craved and feared. It was intoxicating, this dangerous game they played, but it was also suffocating. Sasuke’s love wasn’t soft or gentle. It was fierce, consuming, like a fire that burned too hot.

“Sasuke…” Naruto whispered, unsure of whether he was pleading or warning. He felt Sasuke’s hand slide down to his neck, his thumb brushing over the pulse point there, feeling the rapid beat of his heart.

“I don’t care if you hate me for it,” Sasuke continued, his voice dropping even lower, filled with raw intensity. “I’ll protect you.”

Naruto’s eyes fluttered open, his gaze meeting Sasuke’s, and for a moment, the tension between them shifted. Desire mixed with frustration, anger melted into something more primal. Sasuke’s lips were so close now, and Naruto could feel the heat of his breath, the way his body leaned into him.

But before Naruto could respond, Sasuke’s lips crashed against his, hard and demanding. It wasn’t a kiss born out of love, but out of need—a desperate need to claim. Naruto’s hands instinctively went to Sasuke’s shoulders, gripping him as the kiss deepened, tongues clashing, breaths mingling in a heated exchange.

For a moment, Naruto let himself get lost in it, Sasuke’s touch, the way their bodies seemed to mold together. But then, as quickly as it began, the kiss broke, and Naruto pulled back, panting, his chest heaving with the effort to catch his breath.

Sasuke’s eyes were dark, his lips parted slightly, still swollen from the kiss. He looked at Naruto with that same dark gaze, like he owned him, body and soul. And in that moment, Naruto didn’t know whether to push him away or pull him closer.

“I love you, Sasuke,” Naruto whispered, his voice raw with emotion. “But you can’t keep doing this. You can’t control every part of my life.”

Sasuke’s expression softened just a fraction, but the darkness didn’t leave his eyes. He reached out, cupping Naruto’s face gently, his thumb brushing over Naruto’s cheek. “I know,” he said quietly, though there was still that edge of control in his voice. “But I can’t help it. You’re everything to me, Naruto. Don’t you get that?”

Naruto’s heart ached at those words. He knew Sasuke loved him—fiercely, protectively—but that love came with strings. Strings that wrapped tighter and tighter the more Sasuke tried to protect him.

“I get it,” Naruto replied softly. “But I’m not something you can lock away.”

Sasuke’s hand lingered on his cheek for a moment longer before he let it drop. There was a flicker of something in his eyes—guilt, perhaps, or regret—but it disappeared as quickly as it came. “Just promise me one thing,” Sasuke said, his voice low. “Promise me you’ll come back to me. Always.”

Naruto nodded, feeling the weight of that promise settle heavily in his chest. “I promise,” he whispered.

The basement was cold. Faint, rust-colored stains were on the floor—a reminder that they were far from the first people to walk in here. The flickering lightbulb hanging from the ceiling illuminated barely more than a few feet in front of them.

As they moved deeper into the basement, a strange, mechanical hum filled the air, growing louder with each step. The atmosphere thickened with an overwhelming sense of dread, and every breath became shorter, their lungs starting to burn from the poisoned air.

“There,” Neji whispered, pointing toward a large, metallic contraption built into the wall on the far side of the room. It was some sort of furnace. A faint glow from inside hinted at what lay within: a sealed compartment.

Something was inside it. Something important.

“We need to check it out," Neji said, moving toward it without hesitation.

“Neji, wait—” Hinata began, her hand reaching out uselessly.

Neji ignored her. His eyes were locked on the furnace, on the compartment within it. He moved quickly, dropping to his knees and peering inside. Sure enough, he saw it—a clue, a piece of paper tucked into the small compartment. He could make out a few numbers scrawled on it. Maybe a part of the code.

“I found something.” he called back to the group, his voice sharp with urgency.

But as soon as his hand reached for the compartment, a deep click echoed through the room, and without a warning, flames came out from the base of the furnace, trapping Neji in a sudden and violent inferno.

Screams ripped through the basement as the fire came to life. Neji’s eyes widened in horror, his hand quickly pulling back, but it was too late. The flames licked at his body, consuming him.

"NEJI!" Hinata screamed, her voice breaking as she lunged forward, but Gaara grabbed her, yanking her back as the heat from the fire grew unbearable. The stench of burning flesh filled the basement, choking them all.

Neji’s body writhed in agony, his screams mixing with the fire. His skin melted. He tried to pull himself out, but the furnace door slammed shut with a finality, trapping him inside. His screams echoed in the small, enclosed space, growing weaker and weaker until they faded to nothing.

Hinata collapsed to her knees, sobbing uncontrollably. Naruto’s heart pounded in his chest, bile rising in his throat at the horrific sight. Neji was gone—burned alive in front of them.

Sakura turned away, retching as she covered her mouth with her hands. Even Gaara, his face usually so serious, looked pale and shaken.

The basement was silent now, save for the faint crackling of the dying flames.

Naruto stepped back, feeling the cold, hard wall behind him as his mind spun. They were running out of time, and the Ripper’s cruel game had claimed another life.

But before Neji had died, he had found something. The clue. The part of the code.

Naruto’s eyes shifted toward the furnace. Through the glass window of the compartment, he could still see the slip of paper, unharmed by the flames. It sat there, mocking them, behind the seared remains of Neji’s body.

"We need that clue," Gaara said grimly, his voice strained but clear. His gaze met Naruto’s, and in that moment, they both knew what had to be done.

But no one moved. No one wanted to face the remains of his dead body.

Hinata’s sobs echoed through the basement, and Naruto clenched his fists. His heart ached for her, but they couldn’t afford to hesitate. Not now.

He stepped forward, feeling the oppressive heat of the furnace still radiating from the metal. With a deep breath, he forced himself to pull the door open. The smell was overwhelming, but Naruto pushed past it, his hands trembling as he reached into the compartment and pulled out the paper. The numbers were smudged, barely readable, but they were there.

A part of the code.

Naruto turned to Gaara, holding out the paper with shaky hands. "We... we need to get out of here," he whispered, the weight of Neji’s death pressing down on him.

Gaara nodded, his face hardened with determination. "Let’s keep moving."

6: Bound

"I found another door, but it's stuck on something," Hinata said, her voice faint as she led the group to another door upstairs. The air was filled with the toxic gas, making every breath a struggle. Their steps were slow as the poison took away their strength, leaving them weaker with each passing second.

"If it's stuck, it's a trap," Sakura coughed, her voice hoarse and strained. Her body was trembling, her skin pale, but she pushed on.

"This whole house is a trap," Gaara said, his tone weak. The exhaustion weighed heavily on him. They reached the door, and Gaara raised his foot, kicking it hard. The wood groaned under the impact but didn't give way. Another kick. And another. Finally, on the last kick, the door swung open with a loud creak, revealing a dimly lit room with another metal door at the far end.

Naruto squinted as his eyes adjusted to the sight before him. Above the metal door, a timer flashed—counting down.

Three minutes.

It was ticking down at an unnerving pace, each second slipping away like sand in an hourglass. Panic surged through the room as everyone realized that their time was almost up.

"I offer you hope," the voice of the Ripper suddenly echoed, though no one could locate where it was coming from. "I want you to be worthy of the life you are given. Now you can prove it."

╾╾╾╾╾╾╾

The soft sound of silverware echoed in the quiet dining room, the only sound punctuating the tension that hung between them. Naruto stared down at his plate, pushing food around but not really eating. His eyes were distant, like his thoughts were far away from the quiet dinner he was sharing with Sasuke.

Sasuke, on the other hand, sat across from him, watching. His gaze was intense, unyielding. He had noticed Naruto’s shift in mood over the last few days—no, weeks. It wasn’t obvious at first, just little things. A sigh here, a distant look there. But lately, it had grown into something more. Something that gnawed at Sasuke’s patience.

Finally, Naruto broke the silence. "I’m tired," he muttered, barely above a whisper.

Sasuke’s fork paused midway to his mouth. His black eyes narrowed, watching as Naruto slumped further in his seat, resting his chin in his hand. "Tired of what?" Sasuke asked, though his tone hinted that he already knew the answer.

Naruto sighed deeply, running a hand through his hair. "This life. The endless cycle. I don’t even know what I’m doing anymore. Every day feels the same, and—"

"Stop," Sasuke interrupted, his voice sharp, cutting through Naruto’s words. Naruto looked up, surprised at the sudden harshness in his tone. "You're saying you’re tired of this life?" Sasuke’s eyes darkened, an unsettling calmness washing over his features as he set his fork down. "You have me. What more do you need?"

Naruto blinked, not sure how to respond at first. He wasn’t sure if Sasuke was trying to comfort him or if there was something more sinister beneath those words. "I know I have you, Sasuke," he said, his voice soft, "but it’s not just about us. It’s my job, the constant pressure, the feeling like—"

"Then quit your job," Sasuke said, his voice lowering but no less intense. His eyes were locked on Naruto’s, refusing to look away, refusing to let Naruto’s words stay too long. "If it’s your job that’s making you feel this way, stop. You don’t need it. You have me."

Naruto shook his head, frustration creeping into his tone. "It’s not that simple. You think I can just walk away from everything? What am I supposed to do then? Just rely on you for the rest of my life?"

Sasuke leaned forward slightly, his elbows resting on the table as his lips twisted into a faint, dangerous smile. "Yes," he said, voice low and dark. "You can rely on me. Why wouldn’t you? What’s out there that you need more than me?"

Naruto felt a shiver run down his spine at the way Sasuke’s voice wrapped around him like a vice, making it hard to breathe. There was a time when Sasuke’s possessiveness made him feel safe, like nothing in the world could touch him as long as Sasuke was there. But now, it felt... suffocating.

"It’s not that simple," Naruto said again, his voice quieter now, uncertain.

Sasuke stood up suddenly, his chair scraping against the floor. He walked around the table, closer to Naruto. He stopped when he was next to him, his hand resting on Naruto’s shoulder, fingers tightening slightly. "You don’t need anything but me, Naruto. I’m the only one who understands you. I’m the only one who can protect you. You don’t need your job. You don’t need any of that."

Naruto looked down, biting his lip. His skin prickled under Sasuke’s touch. He wanted to argue, to tell Sasuke that he couldn’t just give up his whole life like that, but the words wouldn’t come out. Sasuke’s grip on him, his presence, it was like a web that Naruto was caught in. And no matter how hard he tried to pull away, part of him couldn’t help but get tangled deeper.

"I’m tired of living like this," Naruto whispered, his voice barely audible.

Sasuke’s hand slid up to the back of Naruto’s neck, his thumb brushing gently against his skin, but the pressure of his grip was unmistakable controlling. "You’re tired of living like this?" Sasuke’s voice was soft now, almost tender, but there was an edge of danger beneath it. "Then let me change it for you. Let me take care of everything."

Naruto’s heart was pounding as Sasuke’s hand slid lower, trailing down Naruto’s arm, sending a wave of weird emotions through him. He could feel Sasuke’s breath against his ear now, his lips brushing lightly against Naruto’s skin.

"You belong to me, Naruto," Sasuke whispered, his voice laced with desire and something darker. "I’ll give you everything. I’ll be everything. Isn’t that enough?"

Naruto’s breath hitched, his body tense, torn between the pull of Sasuke’s words and the weight of his own thoughts. He wanted to break free from this suffocating feeling, but part of him... part of him felt trapped in Sasuke’s gaze, in his touch. A part of him almost craved the way Sasuke consumed him, the way Sasuke’s presence filled every corner of his life.

But it wasn’t enough. Not anymore.

"Sasuke," Naruto said, his voice trembling, "I need more than this. I can’t keep living in your shadow."

Sasuke’s eyes darkened further, his grip tightening slightly, and Naruto winced at the pressure. "You think you need more?" Sasuke hissed, his voice dangerously low. "You don’t even know what you need. I know you better than you know yourself, Naruto."

Naruto clenched his fists, trying to stand his ground, but Sasuke’s presence was overwhelming. He swallowed hard, his heart racing. "You can’t control everything, Sasuke," Naruto said softly, but there was an undercurrent of defiance in his voice.

Sasuke’s lips curled into a cold smile. "I don’t need to control everything, Naruto. Just you." His hand slipped under Naruto’s chin, tilting his head back slightly, forcing Naruto to meet his gaze. "And I’ll make sure you understand that soon enough."

╾╾╾╾╾╾╾

The countdown continued to tick down.

The survivors were growing weaker by the second, the effects of the gas taking a greater impact with each passing moment.

"Another game," Gaara muttered under his breath, frustration and fear evident in his tone.

Sakura took a deep breath, ignoring the burning in her lungs. "We have to figure this out," she said, her voice steady despite the chaos swelling around them. Her eyes flickered to the countdown—two minutes and thirty seconds now. "There's always a way out. There has to be."

Hinata, leaning against the wall for support, looked around the room desperately. "What does he want from us? There has to be a clue, something we’re missing."

Before anyone could respond, the ground beneath Hinata suddenly gave way with a crack, and she let out a scream as she fell down into a hidden pit. The group rushed to the edge, their eyes wide in horror as they saw what awaited her below.

Hinata had fallen into a pit filled with needles—thousands of them, sharp and glinting under the dim light. Her body was sprawled among the deadly points, several already in her arms and legs. The needles were filled with a toxic, greenish substance.

“Hinata!” Naruto’s voice was filled with panic as he reached out to her, his hand shaking. She was sobbing, her body in pain, and her skin pale. “G-get me out of here!” she cried, her voice barely more than a desperate whisper.

Naruto stretched his hand toward her, but she was too far down. The pit was deep, and every movement she made caused the needles to go deeper into her flesh. “Hold on, Hinata, I’m going to get you out!” His voice cracked with desperation, his mind racing for a solution, but there was nothing within reach to help her.

Gaara glanced at the countdown—two minutes left. His face was pale, the effects of the gas taking their toll on him as well, but his voice remained serious. “We need to pull her out now or it’ll be too late. The poison... it’s already in her system.”

Hinata’s breaths were shallow and ragged, her eyes fluttering shut as the toxins began to take over. “I…” she whimpered, her voice barely audible. She tried to reach for Naruto, but her strength was fading fast. “I... I don’t want to die…”

Naruto’s hand remained stretched out, trembling as he realized he couldn’t reach her. Couldn’t save her.

Sakura’s voice was shaking as she stepped closer. “Naruto... there’s no time.” Her eyes were filled with tears as she looked down at Hinata. “We can’t save her.”

“No!” Naruto shouted, his voice filled with pain. “I’m not leaving her!”

Hinata’s body shuddered one last time, her eyes flickering shut as her breaths grew slower and slower. “I’m sorry…” she whispered, her voice so faint it was almost lost to the ticking of the countdown.

Then her body went still.

Naruto’s hand remained stretched out, frozen, as the weight of the moment sank in. He clenched his fist, his whole body trembling.

Sakura gently tugged on his arm, pulling him back from the edge. “We have to go,” she said, her voice soft, yet firm. “There’s nothing we can do for her now.”

Gaara turned away from the scene, his face tight with pain and frustration. “One minute left,” he muttered. “We need to move.”

Naruto hesitated, his heart aching with the weight of yet another loss. He couldn’t save her. He couldn’t save Hinata.

The group stumbled forward, pushing through another door, their bodies growing weaker with every passing second as the gas went deeper into their systems. Naruto’s lungs burned, each breath a struggle as the poison took its toll. His vision blurred, but they had to keep moving. They had no choice.

7: Betrayal

Naruto sat on the edge of their bed, his head in his hands. His chest felt tight, emotions swirling inside him that he could barely put into words. He couldn’t shake the heaviness, the feeling of being trapped.

Sasuke stood near the doorway, his arms crossed, watching Naruto in silence. His eyes were dark, and though his face was expressionless, there was a tension in the air that made it hard to breathe.

“I can’t do this anymore,” Naruto muttered, his voice low and strained.

Sasuke’s eyes narrowed. "What do you mean?" His tone was cold, calculated, as if he already knew but was daring Naruto to say it aloud.

Naruto raised his head, meeting Sasuke’s gaze, and for the first time in a long while, he didn’t look away. “This... this life we’re living. It’s suffocating me. I feel like I’m losing myself.”

Sasuke's lips curved slightly, though the smile didn’t reach his eyes. He took a slow step toward Naruto. “Suffocating?” he echoed, his voice laced with an edge of disbelief. “You have me, Naruto. You have everything you could possibly need.”

Naruto’s fists clenched. “I’m tired, Sasuke. I’m tired of the control, the expectations... everything.” His voice cracked. "It’s like... you’re pulling me into your world, and I’m drowning in it.”

Sasuke’s smile vanished. In an instant, his expression darkened. He moved closer, stopping just in front of Naruto, his presence dominating the space between them. “You’re tired?” he repeated, his voice lower, dangerous. “You’re tired of me?”

Naruto shook his head, frustration boiling over. “No! That’s not what I’m saying! I’m tired of how I’m always walking on eggshells around you, tired of feeling like I have to prove myself all the time. I’m—”

Before Naruto could finish, Sasuke grabbed his wrist, pulling him up from the bed. The movement was sudden, sharp, but Sasuke’s grip, though firm, wasn’t painful. He held Naruto close, their faces inches apart.

“You belong to me,” Sasuke growled, his voice a dark whisper.

Naruto’s heart raced, not out of fear, but something deeper. The possessiveness in Sasuke’s eyes, the way his hand tightened around Naruto’s wrist—it sent a shiver down Naruto’s spine. There was tension between them, as always, a mixture of anger and frustration.

Naruto stared at Sasuke, his breath quickening. “I’m not a thing you can just own, Sasuke...”

“Then what are you?” Sasuke’s voice softened, but his grip didn’t loosen. He stepped even closer, his lips brushing against Naruto’s ear. “Because I’ve given you everything. Without me, what are you?”

The words stung, cutting deeper than Naruto expected. Sasuke’s hand slid from his wrist to his jaw, tilting his face up so their eyes met again. Sasuke’s touch was firm but not rough, his thumb brushing Naruto’s cheek. There was an intensity in his gaze that Naruto couldn’t break away from, as if Sasuke was searching for something inside him—something that would keep him tethered.

“You’re not tired of me,” Sasuke whispered, his breath hot against Naruto’s skin. “You’re just lost. And I’m the only one who can keep you from falling apart.”

Naruto’s body betrayed him, his pulse quickening as Sasuke’s hand lingered on his face. He hated how Sasuke always managed to do this—turn everything around, make him doubt his own feelings. But deep down, Naruto knew Sasuke wasn’t entirely wrong.

“Don’t do this,” Naruto whispered, his voice thick with emotion. “Don’t make this about you...”

“It’s always been about us, Naruto.” Sasuke’s other hand slid around Naruto’s waist, pulling him closer, their bodies pressed together now. “I don’t care if you’re tired. You’re not going anywhere.”

Naruto’s breath hitched, torn between the desire to push Sasuke away and the pull of their undeniable connection. “This isn’t healthy...” he murmured, his voice betraying the conviction he was trying to hold on to.

Sasuke’s lips grazed Naruto’s, not quite a kiss, more of a reminder of how close they were—how close they always would be. “You think I care about healthy?” he whispered, his breath mingling with Naruto’s. “I care about you. About us.”

Naruto’s heart pounded in his chest as Sasuke’s lips hovered just over his, the promise of a kiss but never quite delivered. It was always like this with Sasuke—always a battle, always a push and pull. And no matter how hard Naruto tried to resist, he always ended up right here, in Sasuke’s arms.

“Let me go...” Naruto breathed, his voice barely above a whisper.

But Sasuke didn’t let go. Instead, he pulled him closer, his grip tightening as he whispered, "Never." And before Naruto could respond, Sasuke closed the space between them, pressing his lips against Naruto's.

╾╾╾╾╾╾╾

Finally, they reached a small room, and in the center stood a steel safe. A dim light flickered overhead, casting a sickly glow on the metal surface. Naruto’s eyes looked around, searching for any traps, but there weren't any.

Gaara stumbled forward, his strength fading with each passing second. “The combination,” he gasped, his voice barely above a whisper. “The numbers… they’re in our minds.”

Sakura knelt beside him, her breath shaky. “The killer said... the numbers are in the back of our minds.” She coughed, struggling to stay conscious. “What could it be?”

But Gaara’s body was already too far gone. The gas had gotten into his system, his strength failing with every breath. He knelt beside the safe, his fingers trembling as he tried to turn the dial, but his hands were shaking too much.

Naruto crouched beside him, placing his hands over Gaara’s. “Gaara, we can do this. Stay with me!” But Gaara’s eyes were glazing over, his breath shallow.

“Too late... Naruto,” Gaara whispered, his voice weak and strained. His body slumped against the safe, his head falling forward as his last breath left him.

Naruto’s heart shattered as Gaara went still, his eyes closing for the final time. “No... Gaara, don’t...” But it was too late.

Sakura’s sobs echoed softly in the room as she leaned against the wall, her own body growing weaker. They had lost him—another person.

Naruto, his heart heavy with grief, turned to the safe. He knew they were running out of time. With shaky hands, he closed his eyes, thinking hard, trying to recall the numbers—the memories the Ripper had spoken of.

He hesitated for a moment, doubt gnawing at him. How could he possibly know the combination? But then, as if by instinct, two dates came in his mind—his birthday and Sakura’s.

He quickly turned to Sakura, desperation etched across his face. "Sakura, what’s your birthday?" he asked, his voice trembling with urgency.

Sakura blinked, confusion momentarily overshadowing her panic. “It’s March 29,” she replied, her brow furrowed in worry. “Why?”

Taking a deep breath, Naruto's fingers hovered over the keypad, trembling slightly. He felt the weight of despair pressing down on him as he punched in the digits: March 29 for Sakura, followed by October 10 for himself.

The safe remained silent and closed for a moment, and doubt surged in his chest. What if he was wrong? What if this was just another cruel game?

But then, with a satisfying click, the safe’s door swung open.

Naruto’s heart raced, a mix of relief and confusion flooding through him. How did the Ripper know that only he and Sakura would survive? A sense of dread filled him, but now was no time to think about that.

He looked into the safe, his breath hitching in his throat. Inside there was a single needle—the antidote. Just one.

His heart sank as he took it. “One antidote…” he whispered, the implications crashing down on him. The Ripper had planned this entire game ahead, leaving them with a choice that would tear them apart.

“Why?” he shouted, anger and desperation surging through him. “Why would you do this?”

But there was no answer, only the cruel ticking of the countdown as he held the needle tightly.

As the seconds ticked away, a single thought pierced through the fog of confusion—he needed to save her.

Naruto, coughing, turned to Sakura, his hands trembling. But as he approached her, his heart sank. Sakura was already lying on the ground, her eyes half-closed, gasping for air. The gas had taken her too.

“Take it... Naruto,” she rasped, her voice weak. “You... have to... survive.”

Tears filled Naruto’s eyes as he knelt beside her, holding her hand. “No... We can share it... We’ll—”

“Take it,” Sakura whispered, a faint smile crossing her lips. “Please...”

Naruto’s hands shook as he looked at the needle. He hesitated for just a moment, the weight of everything crushing down on him, but he knew there was no other choice. He pressed the antidote into his arm.

Sakura’s hand slipped from his grasp, and her body went still.

Naruto’s vision blurred with tears as he stood up, his heart aching with the pain of all the lives lost. He stumbled toward the final door, pushing it open and stepping into the cold night air.

But the fresh air didn't help him, his body, exhausted and weak, couldn’t take it anymore. His vision swam, his legs buckled, and before he could take another step...

Everything went black, and Naruto collapsed to the ground.

╾╾╾╾╾╾╾

The sound of a heart monitor was the first thing Naruto became aware of as consciousness came back, dragging him from the restless dreams. His eyelids went open, and at first, everything was a blur of white light and shadows that seemed to stretch unnaturally long against the walls.

A cold sensation snaked through his veins. He wasn’t in the trap anymore—but the air still felt oppressive, like he hadn’t really escaped at all.

The room was quiet. Naruto shifted in the bed, pain going through his ribs and muscles, reminding him of everything. The gas, the needles, the screams. Faces flashed before him—Sakura, Gaara—each one twisted in terror and agony.

Naruto winced, forcing himself to sit up despite the pain. His head throbbed as if the memories were clawing their way back to the surface, trying to drag him under again. His pulse quickened, and his eyes darted around the room, searching for something—anything—that might make sense of what had happened.

The door creaked open, and Naruto jumped, his heart lurching in his chest.

A nurse stepped inside, her expression calm, too calm, as though she was oblivious to the horrors that had unfolded some days ago. “You’re awake,” she said softly, her voice almost too gentle. “You’ve been sleeping for a few days now.”

Naruto stared at her, his mouth dry, his heart hammering in his chest. “What…what happened?” His voice was hoarse, barely more than a whisper. It was as if his body remembered everything too well, even if his mind still felt like it was stuck somewhere in that nightmare.

The nurse smiled, but it didn’t quite reach her eyes. “You’ve been through a lot,” she said, stepping closer to check the machines around him. “You were brought in suffering from multiple injuries and exposure to toxins. You’re lucky to be alive.” Her fingers tapped lightly on the clipboard in her hand. “But you’re recovering well, so we’ll be able to discharge you soon.”

Naruto’s skin crawled. Something about her demeanor, her detachment, unsettled him. The smile was there, but there was a hollowness in her eyes, like she wasn’t really seeing him at all—just going through the motions.

“You’ve been given a second chance,” she continued, her words hanging in the air like a warning. “You should take care not to waste it.”

Naruto’s stomach twisted violently at her choice of words. His mind flashed back to the Ripper’s voice, those messages, the games, the way it was all designed to make them suffer. To make them regret.

As the nurse finished checking his vitals, she gave him one last soft smile. “If you need anything, just press the button. Someone will come.”

And with that, she left the room, the door clicking shut behind her, leaving him in a suffocating silence once more.

Naruto’s heart raced. Every instinct screamed that something was wrong. That he wasn’t safe—not here, not anywhere. He glanced around the room again, trying to shake off the feeling of being watched, of still being caught in the Ripper’s web. It was a hospital—a place of healing, but to Naruto, it felt like just another cage.

That’s when he noticed them—the flowers sitting on the nightstand. A bouquet of white lilies with soft petals. The sight of them should have brought him some comfort, but instead, they felt out of place.

Too perfect.

His heart stuttered in his chest as he reached for the small card hidden among the flowers, his fingers trembling. Sasuke must have sent them. It had to be Sasuke. After everything… it had to be.

He pulled the card free, the soft rustle of paper unnaturally loud in the quiet room.

But as his eyes scanned the words, his blood turned to ice.

"From the only person in the back of your mind."

The breath left his lungs in a ragged gasp. His fingers tightened around the card, crumpling it slightly as dread washed over him, choking him. The message was like a cruel echo of the Ripper’s voice, and suddenly he could hear it all over again—the commands, the threats, the games. It clawed at his mind, dragging him back into that suffocating nightmare.

No. It wasn’t possible.

Naruto’s heart raced, panic building like a rising tide. He stepped out of bed, ignoring the sharp sting of the IV pulling free from his arm. Pain flared in his side, but he barely felt it, too consumed by the thought that had taken hold of his mind.

Sasuke.

He needed to get home.

Naruto’s breathing quickened as his thoughts started mixing. Was Sasuke in danger? Or worse—could Sasuke have been behind this? No, that couldn’t be. But the memories, the manipulation… it haunted him. Every dark look, every time Sasuke had wrapped his love around Naruto like chains.

He ran through the hospital, not caring about the stares of the nurses and doctors, not caring about the questions they asked as he passed by. His body screamed in protest, weak and trembling, but he couldn’t stop.

The shadows seemed to stretch out around him, whispering, mocking him as he rushed outside. The cold air hit him like a shock, but it did nothing to clear the suffocating thoughts in his mind.

He had to get home.

And before he even knew it, he was sitting in a taxi.

╾╾╾╾╾╾╾

The light of the restaurant cast a warm glow over the small table, people were dancing to the rhythm of the soft music that played in the background. Naruto fidgeted in his seat, his fork pushing around the untouched pasta on his plate. Across from him, Sasuke sat with an air of calm intensity, his eyes piercing through the noise as if he were analyzing every detail of their surroundings.

“Are you going to eat or just stare at your food?” Sasuke asked, a hint of amusement creeping into his voice.

“Sorry,” Naruto said, forcing a smile. “I just… can’t stop thinking about everything. You know, work, life… us.” His heart raced, and he felt the weight of Sasuke’s gaze upon him, both comforting and unnerving.

Sasuke leaned back slightly, his eyes narrowing. “Us? Is that what you’re worried about?” There was an edge to his tone, something possessive that made the air between them feel charged with unspoken emotions.

“Not just that,” Naruto replied, his voice quieter. “I just… I feel like there’s something off. Like we’re living in this bubble, and I’m not sure what’s outside of it.” He hesitated, searching Sasuke’s face for a reaction. “You can be really intense sometimes.”

Sasuke’s expression darkened, his eyes glinting with an intensity that made Naruto’s pulse quicken. “You don’t need to worry about me, Naruto. I know what I’m doing.” His voice dropped lower, a promise—or perhaps a threat—lacing his words. “You just need to trust me.”

Naruto swallowed hard. There was something captivating about Sasuke’s confidence, yet it also scared him. “It’s just… I want to understand you better. You have this way of looking at things, like you see the world differently. It makes me wonder what you really think about… everything... about me.”

“I think people are weak, easily manipulated. It’s all a game, and I intend to play it well. But you, Naruto,” Sasuke paused, letting the weight of his words settle between them. “You are different. You have the potential to be so much more.”

The tension in the air thickened, and Naruto felt his breath catch. “You really think that?” he asked, trying to keep his voice steady, even as his heart raced.

“Of course,” Sasuke replied, his voice low and smooth. “You just need to embrace your true self, shed the weaknesses that hold you back. There’s a strength within you waiting to be unleashed.”

Naruto felt a shiver run down his spine at the implications of Sasuke's words. “What do you mean by that?” he questioned, trying to understand how deep Sasuke’s beliefs really ran.

Sasuke smiled, but it didn’t reach his eyes. “Let’s just say… the world can be a dark place. I would hate for you to become a victim of it.” He paused for a few seconds. “You have me, and I’ll do whatever it takes to protect you.”

There was a hint of something predatory in Sasuke’s demeanor, a part of him that felt dangerously alluring. “I just want to make sure we’re both okay,” Naruto murmured, feeling more vulnerable than ever.

Sasuke reached across the table, his fingers brushing against Naruto’s, lingering just long enough to make his heart race. “We will be, as long as you don’t forget who you belong to.”

Naruto’s breath was shallow, catching in his throat as he neared the front door of the house. Every step felt heavy. His hand hovered above the handle, trembling. "Please let me be wrong," he thought desperately, before gripping the handle with cold, sweaty fingers and pulling it down. The door swung open effortlessly. It wasn’t locked.

Someone’s already here.

The thought sent a spike of terror through him. His mind raced, flipping between possibilities. "Is Sasuke in danger?" The thought twisted painfully in his gut. "Or… is he the danger?"

The house was quiet, the kind of silence that suffocated. Naruto shut the door behind him with a soft click, the sound echoing through the empty hall. His eyes darted around the familiar space, but now everything felt weird, like he was out of place in his own home.

He moved carefully, first to the kitchen. Nothing out of place. Then the bathroom, the living room, their bedroom—all the usual places. Sasuke was nowhere to be found. His heart began to race, a creeping panic coming its way up his throat. Sasuke should be home by now. His mind wouldn’t stop spinning. He checked the closets, but his stuff was gone. The drawers too. Gone.

Naruto’s chest tightened. The panic was suffocating him now. "Where is he? Why is everything gone?"

But then, a memory came into his mind. Sasuke’s workroom. The one room Naruto had always been forbidden from entering. He turned slowly, his pulse pounding in his ears as he realized he hadn’t checked it. "Of course, the one room..."

He approached the door. It was ajar, slightly creaking open, a sight that made Naruto’s blood run cold. Sasuke always kept it locked, obsessively so. The sight of it standing open felt wrong, like some unspoken rule had been shattered.

Naruto hesitated for a moment, then pushed the door open. The room was dimly lit by a single lamp. At first glance, nothing seemed out of place. The desk, the papers—just like always.

But the air... the air felt different.

He stepped inside, eyes looking through the room with growing dread. His gaze landed on the desk, where papers were scattered. Nothing suspicious... he thought, until something caught his eye. The edges of one blueprint were familiar.

Naruto’s fingers shook as he reached out and lifted the paper. His heart thudded painfully as his eyes widened, tracing the lines on the page. It wasn’t just any blueprint. It was the building—the building. The one where he had been trapped. The rooms were drawn with details, every trap, every corridor... It was all there.

His breath hitched. His hands trembled uncontrollably. The realization was creeping in, slow and horrible. "No… no, it can’t be."

His knees threatened to buckle as he flipped through more papers, each one worse than the last. Each page was more damning than the one before. Traps designed with cruel precision, rooms meant to torment and break whoever was unlucky enough to enter them.

Naruto’s vision blurred with panic as the truth began to take hold, a nightmare unraveling before his eyes. Sasuke—his Sasuke—his husband had created it all. The building. The traps. The hell he had just survived. Sasuke was the Ripper.

He stumbled back, his head spinning, heart racing like it was trying to escape his chest. Sasuke... it was Sasuke all along. The loving, protective man he had shared his life with was behind the mask of a monster. And now... Sasuke was gone. Vanished, like a shadow in the night, leaving behind only evidence of his cruelty.

Naruto’s mind screamed in disbelief, but the proof was in his hands. He clutched the papers so hard that his knuckles turned white. The drawings—how long had he been doing this? How long had he been lying, smiling, pretending?

Naruto paused as one final thought crawled into his mind, unwelcome and horrific. "How did Sasuke know only I would survive?"

The safe. The single antidote. He planned everything. Sasuke had planned the entire thing, down to the last detail. And now, he had disappeared, leaving Naruto behind in a world where he could never trust again.
