Work Text:

The day Jerry first heard Layne sing he knew he was already head over heels in love. The day Layne met Jerry at the party was the day he knew he was going to eventually fall for the man. Neither Jerry or Layne really believed in fate or destiny but that didn't stop the universe from bringing them together.

Today was a very bright and sunny day, no clouds out to rain or cover the blue outstretched sky above them. Trees surrounding them were lively and green, shadowing them from the suns rays. Hand in hand the two walked through the beautiful park they recently found in Seattle. Summertime was upon them whether they fully enjoyed it or not.

"Way too hot to be out doing this, Jer." Layne remarked playfully, adjusting his black shades on his face. Jerry scoffed, "You were the one to come up with the idea, smartass." Layne abruptly pulled up his sunglasses to rest on his head to fully stare at his partner. "You wanna say that again?" He tried to look intimidating as he possibly could despite his features not working in his favor. Jerry stared back with a doting expression clear as day written on his face. "Okay, okay, enough of your big eyes. They scare me sometimes." Jerry grinned adoringly, clashing with his words. Layne smiled back, it was impossible to resist.

Layne points out the nearest bench, "I'm tired. I need a break or I will pass the fuck out." Jerry complied, pulling Layne with him and sitting right next to him on the wooden bench. "I don't think I've walked this much in a long time." Layne huffed. He leaned his body fully against Jerry's side as Jerry untangled their fingers to rest his arm around Layne's broad shoulder. "We're unfit as hell. I think Sean could probably run laps against us." The younger laughed out loud in response, probably at the ridiculous vision it paints, "Sean wouldn't be able to out run a turtle."

"Don't do that to turtles, man. What did they do to you? They're really chill creatures." Jerry shakes his head in exaggerated disappointment. Layne nods in mock agreement. "Yeah? And when was the last time you ever saw a turtle?"

The other man sighs, "You got me there." Layne triumphantly smirks. He leans up into his boyfriend to plant a big kiss on his cheek. Jerry instinctively flushes and beams, giving up on trying to preserve his faux defeated face. Layne giggles in amusement, feeling as if his heart grew two sizes larger. Jerry swiftly clasps the slightly shorter man's face to pull him into a full on the lips kiss.

Layne melts into the kiss, trying his best to reciprocate with a lovesick smile still fixed on his lips. They eventually both pull back with matching radiant expressions. "You're fucking ridiculous," Jerry mutters. He reaches out to lovingly ruffle the pink haired man's locks, accidentally knocking the sunglasses over in the process. "Shit! Sorry baby." He reaches down and places them back on Layne's head. Layne playfully rolls his eyes, blushing despite himself.

"Oh my god, Jer, there's ice cream." His eyes seem to sparkle at the mere mention of ice cream. Jerry chuckles, finding Layne's excitement absolutely adorable. "Okay. We'll get ice cream." Layne does a silent cheer and almost immediately stands up from the bench. Jerry rises to join him, gesturing to lead the way, "You should get strawberry. 'Cause your hair."

"Very funny. No, I'm getting... um.. I don't know. Have to see." Layne gently bumps his shoulder into Jerry's. Jerry bumps back, pulling a scrunched look to ponder. "Well, I'm gonna get vanilla or something like that," he shrugs. "I'm a plain guy."

When the couple arrives at the stand they pause to look over the options. "Peanut butter and coffee? This is your day," Jerry jokes. Layne nods, "Yeah. And they got your rock bullshit." He points at the tub clearly labeled 'rocky road.' Jerry exasperatedly shakes his head with a slight grin, knowing better to try and tell him what it's called because he already knows.

The stand employee chooses to take this silence to ask them what they want. "One peanut butter, one coffee," Layne blurts out. The poor guy looks horrified for a split second before nodding reluctantly. "I'll take one scoop rocky road." Jerry smiles as apologetically as he can out of politeness. Once paid for they take their ice cream and go for another walk this time.

"Where's the fucking ducks? I thought parks had those just lying around," Jerry comments, brushing his long hair out of his face. "I'm starting to think they're not real." Layne laughs, "I don't think they're out today babe." Jerry doubles down, "This must be one shitty park then."
