Chapter Text

Gawr Gura was no poet, she couldn’t even hold a candle to how sir Gonathan with a G spoke or write. That’s her loss and the knights win. She also wasn’t a well-known and noble knight whose deeds have reached every civilians ears. Another loss for her and victory for the humble knight. Sir Gonathan was also smooth with the ladies, a charmer and a natural with people. More loss for Gura and win for Gonathan.

Now Gura wasn’t jealous, she doesn’t even bother with people unless necessary. They’re all strangers and are all stuck in this world, but that didn’t stop sir Gonathan from forming bonds with them.

She took her role as a knight and hero very seriously while Gura was off practically gambling and doing other random shenanigans. And Gura doesn’t mind, she’s not like her after all. She has a lot of defeats but she’s never really trying to defeat anyone.

So why the sudden comparison?

Another difference Gura hates to admit is their honesty, when she said it doesn’t bother her that wasn’t totally true. Being dishonest is another loss she’ll have to take and the truth is their is one loss that bothers her a lot, it’s not this one.

It’s her precious Pearl.

Sir Gonathan with a G is someone with many amazing traits, but if there’s one thing Gura wishes that she could have, her pearl, Jyonathan with a Y Watson. The name confuses Gura, but it doesn’t stop her from harboring affections from the fair maiden.

Well...once a fair maiden.

She’s married, taken, and practically belongs to the most humble and noblest of knight there is. So Jyonathan is lucky, they both are in Guras opinion. She can tell the two are a perfect fit and their love for each other is quite obvious. Jyonathan has her fair share of admirers and sir Gonathan wastes no time to protect her pearl, her loyalty and devotion all witnessed by everyone. So how could Jyonathan not fall for such a gentlewoman.

Their marriage has just begun but has already faced a lot of obstacles, the fact that if remains still and strong just shows how much they love one another.

Gura can only sympathize for Gonathan for her dear pearl too is quite the Casanova, she had her fair share of mischief, indulging other people and flirting back, the poor hearts this woman is playing with.

Gura thinks it’s just Jyonathan’s way of making her dear husband jealous, how she practically gallops to the scene just to secure Jyonathan’s safety and their marriage, why even other members has picked up on this trait and has used it to their advantages. The poor knight.

Gura sighs and takes a swig of her booze.

Ah yes, they’re lucky indeed. Everyone in the kingdom will say that. Many of them were overjoyed, some were envious, not just because the two were no longer available but to also have a romance like theirs. And as for Gura, she was envious, she was bitter of that one defeat she can’t accept.

Not out loud of course, she may be a loser at this nonexistent battle between her and sir Gonathan but she wasn’t about to break such a union between two wonderful people. Not when she seems happy.

Happy with her that is.

Gura sighs the second time that night.

She’s currently unwinding after a long and exhausting day of kicking the false kings ass and their journey was complete, well, almost complete. They have yet regained all of their memories and they’re a long way from the finish line. All of the guild members ended up joining each other for the night as they dined in the tavern. Celebrating their victory and the progress they were all making. Gura hums in content as she recalls the fun she had with everyone there.

She’d stay a little longer if it weren’t for the sight of the humble knight and his public display of affection for his beloved pearl, Gura for a while tolerated that, no matter how much it annoyed her, but the second Gonathan started shouting at her pearls admirers to stay back she had to bail. Her voice was so loud that a headache was starting to form, she was also slightly tipsy and Gura didn’t trust herself with the mixture of being annoyed and tipsy.

So here she was now, alone outside of the tavern. Enjoying the booze she embezzled as she left, she paid for it of course. She put a little distance between herself and the party and walked a bit but not too far for she could still hear the joyous laughter coming from the tavern. Party is fun and all but Gura was still an introvert deep down.

She preferred this more, the gentle glow of the moonlight, the sweet caress of the wind and the peaceful silence. She placed her booze down right next to her and sighed. She’s currently at an already closed shop, comfortably sitting on its front stairs and leaning on the baluster. Her eyes are closed in content as she leans further, her posture looking lousier by the second.

She might fall asleep here and her back will probably be hella painful tomorrow but she’s just too sleepy and content to care. The kingdom is asleep and it is midnight, if she pays closer attention even the noise from the tavern has disappeared or at least has gotten quieter. Gura was on her way to dreamland before she was awoken by a thump just beside her.

Looking on her right she blinks a couple of times to see a ukulele that has fallen on its front, looking at the culprit, it was none other then her tail who apparently knocked it by accident. She sighs but smiles as she grabs the instrument. Tuning it.

Everyone has lost their memories in this land but some have regained it as time passes by, she’s among those who has regained some part of it. But not all, just enough. Apparently music has a soft spot on her and as she was leaving the tavern she saw the old instrument covered in dust, frowning she looked around to see if anyone would notice but since everyone was busy with the party she grabbed it and hightailed outta there.

Content with her work she strums the strings and grins at the beautiful melody she receives. For a while she idly plays with it despite feeling like its her first time holding the instrument, she dances around its string like an old harmony she’s mastered. Creating simple music.

Gura is left to wonder tho, if she played instruments what exactly did she play and what kind? She places the ukulele down on her lap and crosses her arms as she thinks of a memory to go by, anything music related. Her thinking unfortunately goes nowhere and she sighs out loud. Looking up at the moon as her only companion. She grabs her booze and takes another swig although just a little bit and rubs her mouth with the back of her hand.

Feeling a little silly, she indulges herself. “Any requests dear moon?” She asks and silence was what she got. She chuckles and she holds the ukulele up once more, playing with its strings, “You’re funny moon man, at least you’re not an eyesore like the sun”

She stops at that. The sun huh...

Looking at the moon once more, she squints. The moon isn’t exactly painful to look at, there’s just something...that she can’t seem to put her finger to. Giving up, she deflates on her spot and closes her eyes, hands still holding the guitar.

Gura dreams of warmth and the sun instead of the sea and it’s coldness. Why does her actual homeland feel more distant and new compared to the suns embrace? She opens her eyes, a bit wider than normal and stares at nothing, but only for a moment, she then sits properly and strum the ukulele.

She’s in a daze, can’t tell if she’s dreaming or day dreaming but she follows it, goes with it and before she realizes, she’s playing a tune she remembers. Licking her lips she opens her mouth and sings.

You are my sunshine

My only sunshine

You make me happy

When skies are gray

You'll never know, dear

How much I love you

Please don't take

My sunshine away

The other night, dear

As I lay sleeping

I dreamed I held you

In my arms

When I awoke, dear

I was mistaken

So I hung my head and cried

You are my sunshine

My only sunshine

You make me happy

When skies are gray

You'll never know, dear

How much I love you

Please don't take

My sunshine away

Please don't take...

My sunshine..away....

Gura finishes the song and feels high with emotions, she takes a shaky breathe and exhales the same way. What’s wrong with her? She’s experiencing a rollercoaster of emotions tonight.

Sunshine

Of all the memories she could’ve regained, it had to be her.

“Sunshine...”
