“God these thorns are a pain in the ass. Remind me why we are out here?” Miranda complains as she pushes bushes apart and steps into the clearing. We both love the view from the cliff. It overlooks our tiny town hidden by the surrounding forest, not known by people outside the village, Just the way Umbrella wants it.
“Oh hush, I know you keep your little crows up here when you need a break.” She chuckled as she sat down, legs dangling off the cliff.
“How far do you think we should go.?” I asked, looking behind me to the infant sound asleep on my back. “We could probably hide in Russia for a while, tons of woods. No Umbrella there.”
Miranda hums but stays quiet staring off in the distance to the quiet town.
“Maybe Greenland, oh! Antarctica! I’m built for the cold.” I joke, nudging Miranda. She cracks the smallest smile before she sighs deeply. God, not this again.
“Why can’t you stay,” Miranda asks her voice strained, finally turning to face me. “You could stay with me at my house. I could just keep wiping their memories and you could stay.”
“Miranda-“
“No, you have a child, Lucy, you can not keep running from everything. You were fine here, I helped you hide! Just let me help you, please.” She held my arm tightly, almost desperately.
“You know why we have to leave M. We had this argument plenty of times already,” I told her while moving to lean onto her, staring off to my old house engulfed in flames. “I know you helped us, M and I'm forever indebted to you. But you know we can't exactly hide as easily as you and Eva do.”
Miranda scoffs as she leans against my head, “You know-”
“We are leaving Miranda, I’m sorry. That’s final.”
“Just please. Please stay safe.” Miranda sighs defeated, and hugs you tightly.
“Of course.”
