When the Moon Hits Your Eye [DISCONTINUED]

Summary:

This is a crossover fic between To The Moon and OMORI.

Eva Rosalene and Neil Watts travel through the memories of Sunny. That's all you really need to know, the rest will be sprinkled through the fic itself.

(Takes place after Finding Paradise)

Notes:

Wow, after all this time, I'm finally posting the first chapter of my first fic! I couldn't resist making a crossover fic between these two, it fulfills all of my cravings! (Characters going through headspace, to the moon, and Omori/to the moon)

This one chapter has gone through 3 complete do-overs since I started working on this in July, so I'm excited to actually publish something.

Please share any feedback you have! It's really helpful.

(PS. I'm most likely subconsciously getting ideas from other Fics, so don't mind any similarities to other Fics.)

Chapter 1: Welcome To White Space

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

[Entry #1]

Why can't we have one normal job? I suppose I shouldn't have expected a normal job when I learned who our client was, but I didn't expect age to change this much about one's memories (assuming he doesn't have any actual delusions).

Neil said he fixed the machine, and I know he'd quicker admit to doing nothing than doing his specialty poorly, so I believe him. Doesn't change the fact that we're still in an inexplicable white void, surrounded by fog. The fog is the most annoying part, there's virtually none nearby, but at around 15 meters from where I'm standing it gets so thick I can't see an inch further. (Sucks)

[Entry #2]

The center area seems to be the main ‘room’ area, as that's where all the stuff is. There's a Sketchbook of some kind, a laptop, some tissues, and most importantly: there's a cat.

The client is sleeping in the middle of the ‘room’. He is black and white (like everything else), and he seems to be around 4-5 years younger than he should be (if this really is his last accessible memory). Neil is about to wake him up for some information (because his friends(?) were not helpful in the least).

I am going to pet the cat. It looks fluffy.

[Entry #3]

I pet the cat. It was fluffy.

The client was not helpful; Neil tried talking to him, but he was ignored. (And not like “I don't want to talk to you” ignored, but “I'm not going to acknowledge your existence” ignored).

We tried resetting the memory to get a better outcome from that interaction, but it's not cooperating; we'll try something else.

On the bright side, I got Neil to say “Oh cucumbers”. He's slowly being converted to the dark side…

[Entry #4]

Nothing is working. We've tried pausing the memory, resetting it, speeding it up, rewinding it, skipping, everything! Either Neil didn't fix the machine after all, or this mind is built different… I don't know what I'd rather it be.

I also can't access the timeline, so we don't know how far back we are. But we can guess based on this boy's age that he's likely no more than 12, so that gives us a general timeframe.

[Entry #5]

Neil had a good idea, this might be the very first! just kidding, he's not really all that stupid, just very immature (But I'd never say that to him, his ego can't take a boost).

He made a new feature that should let us ‘possess’ our client in a way, so we can see through his eyes instead of following him everywhere. We can't seem to move through his memories in the normal way, so we might as well go along with him until we figure something out.

But I'm kind of nervous, I've never done something like this.

[Entry #6]

Well this is strange… we did it though, we're in…Sunny's? Head. (More than we were already). I'm not sure if I got his name right, but I suppose it doesn't matter, we'll hear it at some point anyway. (I have elected to call him Sunny until we know for sure).

When Sunny started moving I almost threw up from the motion sickness, but I held it in so as not to bother the hospital staff (if there are any? I saw one doctor who escorted us to Sunny's room and that's it).

Is this how ghosts feel when they possess people? Count me out.

[Entry #7]

This possession thing is getting more manageable, but I'm still not a fan. At least Neil and I can still talk to each other.

Sunny looked at a tissue box for a bit (???), and talked to the cat.

Usually talking to animals is very one-sided, but that was one-sided in a very different way; Sunny said nothing, and the cat said something. I couldn't consciously understand it (I don't speak cat), but I ‘felt’ it say something along the lines of “Waiting for something to happen?”.

Very weird, but I won't question it for now. (PS. I have a strange feeling that the cat is named Mewo. I don't know much I can trust weird premonitions about memory cats I didn't know 5 minutes ago, but it's all I have to go off of.)

[Entry #8]

Can't say I expected a normal sketchbook, but this is something else…

There's a lot to unpack here:

  1. Lot of blood.
  2. Lot of cats.
  3. Lot of eyes.
  4. Mewo as a butler??
  5. Weird bean thing? (Neil and I can't agree on what it is, even though it's clearly a bean.)

I don't know what any of this means (if anything), but it's certainly interesting. I'm wondering about the black light bulb, if he doesn't check it out I'm going to leave his body and do it myself.

[Entry #9]

I like this note system; it's very easy to use, I can insert images, and it's private, too! Unfortunately I can't insert any gifs or videos, but I suppose that's just how it is...

[Entry #10]

This boy needs to get a better desktop background; Not a fan of the grayscale brick wall aesthetic. Neil seems to dig it though.

He really needs to diversify his schedule; judging by his diary, it looks like he's done two things ever (spend time in ‘White Space’ and hang out with his friends).

But jokes aside, this diary does give us two important pieces of information:

This area is likely what he calls White Space (makes sense, it is a white space).

He has friends (the plural is important, we only know about one friend in the present, whose parents paid for this procedure).

I suppose we'll learn more about these friends later on, and if any of them stuck around until the present.

[Entry #11]

Sunny checked out the lightbulb. It's black. I don't know what it means. It seems to be emitting something??? Like a sort of literal blacklight. It's connected to a ceiling somewhere, but I can't see through the fog to know where it is.

Neil just thinks it looks cool.

We also heard a sort of clinking sound (that Neil is incorrectly calling a ‘clunk’. It could be a clank maybe, but definitely not a clunk, that's ridiculous). Sunny will probably check that out next, and then exit through the door.

[Entry #12]

Teleporting is far worse than just moving ever could be. Almost threw up again.

Sunny went off in search of the clinking sound, but on the way there were some red arms (that kind of looked like those sticky hands that you get from the dentist's office that don't really stick to anything and collect so much dirt and dust you'd think they were making it themselves); the arms started chasing us like snakes with hands for faces, and when it caught him we were immediately teleported back to where we started, and that's where we are now.

Here's hoping he isn't stupid enough to get caught twice; I don't want to go through that again.

[Entry #13]

Good news: he's not stupid!

Bad news: the clinking sound came from a knife, and now the boy is holding a knife in his hand.

I hope he uses it for culinary purposes only, I see enough dead things in this job as it is. But regardless, he's about to go through the door, so I'll make another note once we're out there.

[Entry #14]

There's a lot to jot down about this place, it's very… different.

  1. It's very colorful, and very pastel (I suppose it would be, White Space wouldn't be called that if the other places were also white).
  2. There's a lot of little trinkets I can't even begin to describe.
  3. Sunny's friends are here (but they called him ‘Omori’, which is very interesting).
  4. Giant Yellow cat watching us (very unsettling).

I don't know why his friends call him Omori; even if his name wasn't Sunny, I know for sure that it started with an S. Maybe it's a nickname of some kind? (Maybe it's supposed to be a pun or play on amore?) it's best not to think about it too hard, there are more important things to do right now.

His friends are named Aubrey, Kel, and Hero. Aubrey and Kel fight a lot, and Hero seems to be the calm, responsible one (Neil says I'm Aubrey, but I know I'm Hero and he's Kel).

The cat creeps me and Neil out, but Sunny?(Omori?)(I think I'll call him Omori as long as the others call him that) doesn't seem to mind it, even though its eyes are constantly following him.

There's too much in this room to mention all of it, but I'll talk about things as they become relevant.

[Entry #15]

Kel has a pet rock, that's such a Neil thing to do. Its name is apparently Hector.

Hero seems to speak to Omori more as an equal, maybe because he's more quiet and less rowdy than Kel and Aubrey.

Omori didn't seem interested in most of the objects around the room, but he did linger on a small portrait of someone (not sure who, the photo was too blurry to see).

Kel apparently hid Aubrey's stuffed toy in this room, so I guess we're going to look for that. I don't know where it could possibly be…

[Entry #16]

It was in the blue watermelon. Of course! Why didn't I think of that! (Seriously though, how did Kel hide a stuffed toy inside a watermelon? And why was it blue?)

I do like that it's a stuffed eggplant, even though it's kind of ugly. But Neil also finds it ugly, which makes me want to defend it.

I do wish Aubrey and Kel could stop being dicks to each other for five seconds. I get that they're kids, but she should know better than to make fun of his insecurities, and he shouldn't have hid her toy in retaliation, it's clearly important to her.

[Entry #17]

👎✌☼😐 👎✌☼😐☜☼ ✡☜❄ 👎✌☼😐☜☼

I couldn't resist making that joke. But I've got more important things to talk about.

Who are Mari and Basil? Are they more friends? (Also no Hero, it's not settled; Aubrey clearly got a better outcome in that situation.)

They're apparently having a picnic at the playground? (Weird place to have a picnic, if you ask me.) the others seem to be excited to see them, so they're not just anyone. Neil said that the name Basil sounds familiar, but I just know the plant.

We're just starting to head out and check out this picnic, it might be fun meeting Mari and Basil.

What...?

Sorry, it's just that Omori just talked to a snake on the gay staircase, and that snake gave him a bag full of clams??????????

I'm not going to question it.

Notes:

The first of many chapters that will hopefully not take as long to make as this one. I hope you enjoyed! (This is not how I normally write, I don't know what it is about these start/end notes that make me write so energetically)

Though it still will take a while (I calculated 160 hours for background research alone for this fic, if I continue at the pace I did for this chapter)

My notes will likely improve as I get into the flow of AO3, so bear with me for now.

See you soon (hopefully)(maybe)
