Chapter Text
The Arrival
Ron Weasley opened his eyes and looked around, feeling confused. He was standing in a village that looked old and strange, with streets made of stone that twisted and turned. The buildings were all the same, and everything looked so perfect that it felt unnatural, like magic had made it that way.“Where am I?” he said to himself, looking at the people around him. Some of them looked nervous, while others seemed bored. Everyone was waiting for something, but Ron didn’t know what.A soft, clear voice filled the air, making everyone stop and listen.“Welcome to The System,” the voice said. “Your journey to find your true match begins now. Please go to your assigned table.”Ron looked down and saw a slip of paper in his hand. It said, Table 12. He took a deep breath and walked through the crowd, wondering who he would meet and why he felt like he should know what was going on but couldn’t remember.
A Familiar Face
Hermione Granger sat at her table, playing with a piece of paper. She looked around, trying to figure out where she was and why everything felt so mysterious. The room was warm, with candles flickering in glass holders, but her mind was full of questions. Why couldn’t she remember how she got here? What was The System really for?Her thoughts were interrupted by the sound of a chair moving across the floor. She looked up and felt her heart jump a little. Standing in front of her was Ron Weasley, looking just as surprised as she was.“Ron?” Hermione said, her voice soft and unsure.Ron smiled a bit nervously. “Well, this is... different, isn’t it?”Before they could say anything more, the voice spoke again. “Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. Compatibility trial duration: twelve hours. Begin.”They stared at each other, both wondering what this meant and what would happen next.
The First Trial
Ron and Hermione sat in silence for a moment, both unsure what to say. The room around them was quiet except for the gentle hum of magic in the air. The System had given them twelve hours, but neither of them knew what they were supposed to do.Ron shifted in his chair, trying to break the silence. “So, do we just sit here and wait for the time to run out?” He tried to make a joke, but his voice was shaky.Hermione looked at him, her eyes serious. “Ron, don’t you think this is strange? We’re here, talking like this is normal, but we don’t even know why or how we got here.”Ron rubbed the back of his neck, looking around. “Yeah, it’s weird. But maybe it’s just some spell or enchantment. Maybe when it’s over, we’ll remember everything.”Hermione sighed but nodded. There was nothing else to do but talk, so that’s what they did. They talked about their days at Hogwarts, their friends, and all the adventures they’d been on. It felt good to laugh and share stories, even if it didn’t answer their questions.Time passed quickly, and as the hours went by, they started to feel a little more at ease. But every time they laughed or smiled, the thought of The System watching them made it hard to forget where they were.
Unspoken Truths
As the end of their time drew near, the room grew quieter. Ron looked at the small clock on the table, watching the minutes slip away. Hermione noticed and felt a strange sadness. The twelve hours had gone by too fast.“Ron,” she said softly, breaking the silence. “What if The System isn’t just matching us to find the perfect pair? What if it’s testing us, seeing how far we’ll go to trust it?”Ron frowned and leaned forward. “Then maybe it’s not about finding matches at all. Maybe it’s about control.”Hermione’s eyes widened. “Exactly. But why? And what happens if we don’t follow it?”Before Ron could answer, the same voice spoke again, calm and final. “Time expired. Please return to your quarters.”They stood up, a heavy feeling settling in the air. For a moment, Ron hesitated, wanting to say something that would make the moment last longer. But all he managed was, “It was nice, Hermione.”Hermione’s smile was small but real. “Yes, it was. Maybe we’ll meet again.”Ron nodded, even though he wasn’t sure. They turned and walked away, each step feeling like it weighed more than the last. That night, alone in her room, Hermione stared out the window, the stars above her bright and endless. She couldn’t stop thinking about The System, its true purpose, and the way Ron had looked at her when he said goodbye. Somewhere in her heart, she felt that this wasn’t the end of their story.
