Like moths to a flame

Summary:

Jayce loves Viktor like a warrior does his king.

(See the end of the work for notes.)

Work Text:

Jayce stares at Viktor like a flower does at the sun. He is radiant, beautiful, bright. He is all-encompassing. Viktor’s hair flows in waves, he is a ripple in an ocean of stars. Everything around them glows dark, and Viktor is light.

"Why do you persist?"

Because I love you.

"After everything I've done?"

I still love you.

Jayce loves Viktor like a warrior does his king. Body, mind, life—Jayce would give it all. Broken, battered, reborn. His king is his purpose. He will kneel at his feet, and kiss both his hands.

“Because I promised you.”

Because I love you.

Jayce hugs Viktor like a lover does his dying half. It's desperate, urgent, strong. Jayce isn't sure where his body ends and Viktor's begins. Their shining forms intertwined like thread in patchwork. They are melted—two but the same, one.

Because I love you, now Viktor sees.

Viktor runs from Jayce like a child from a darkened room. He is scary, vast, unknown. Viktor's heartbear echoes between his ribs. He closes his eyes. Everything is dark—even then Jayce is all around him.

“You must go, Jayce.”

Because I love you too.

Jayce flies to Viktor like a moth does to a flame. He craves to be basked under that wavering, soft shine. He wonders if Viktor's body might disappear under his touch. The smothering of a fire under a wet blanket. Still his hand finds its way to Viktor's skin, and it glows—white, iridescent, warm.

“We finish this together.”

Because we love each other.

There is a small weight in Viktor’s hand, and Jayce’s head is touching his. Stars shine and whirl and burst. The world is collapsing, but Jayce’s head is touching his. And the last thing Viktor can remember, his last fleeting memory, is the brush of Jayce’s lips against his.

“I love you.”

The confession is lost to space. Somewhere in another reality two passing starts shine through. They are looking for some new place to land.

Notes:

Honestly I don't even know what this is. I don't know if it's good or bad or excruciatingly awful. I don't know if it has a point. It just happened, and I thought I might as well post it.
