Chapter Text
Danyal watched as the bandaged body was lowered into the Lazarus Pits, he held his arms behind his back, keeping his face devoid of any emotion. Ra's Al Ghul and his daughter Talia were standing on the edge of the glowing green waters, Danyal knew they were hoping that this body would result in them getting a new soldier. Five minutes passed before the body surfaced, thrashing around and screaming, the bandages fell off of his head and revealed bright green eyes, Ra's and Talia stepped out of the way to allow him to pass.
He ran out of the room," go after him, you will teach him to be a part of the League," Ra's Al Ghul said and Danyal nodded, sweeping out of the room silently. Danyal moved through the halls, following the path of destruction that Talia's latest project had gone, in truth that's all this teenager was to Talia. The assassin turned a corner and was thrown into the stone wall, he felt two of his ribs break at the impact, he bit his lip and looked at the bandaged male.
"Calm yourself. Ra's Al Ghul will dispose of you if you cannot be of sound mind," Danyal snapped and the bandaged male paused, breathing heavily and hunching over. Danyal stood, having no reaction to the sharp pain in his ribs, coming from years of harsh training with Ra's Al Ghul himself. Showing pain was a sign of weakness in the League, Danyal couldn't afford to show weakness.
"Who are you? I...don't remember anything before waking up here, where am I?" came the teenagers scratchy voice, raw from his screaming, his knuckles were bloody from punching the walls.
"My name is Danyal. You are in Nanda Parbat, home of the League of Assassins, come with me, I will be training you," the assassin said and the teenager followed him, supporting himself on the wall as the teenager pulled the bandages off of his body. Danyal ignored how attractive the teenager was, his short black hair with a tuft of white in the front. His eyes were the most intense turquoise color that Danyal had ever seen, he shook his head, he had no time to focus on that when he was given a task from Ra's Al Ghul.
---
Danyal kept his face blank as his new partner, who recalled Jay as his name, threw heavy punches at him while the assassin guarded his face. The punches were sloppy, from lack of training or poor training, wherever Jay was before Danyal hated whoever had cared for him. Jay was obviously not cared for properly with how he threw his entire body forward with no regard to what happened to himself.
"You're sloppy, you need to defend yourself at the same time you attack. Not defending yourself will lead to failure of the mission, if you fail your mission you are not given the privilege to dipped in the Lazarus Pits," Danyal said and Jay screamed in anger, turning and slamming his fist into the wall.
Danyal sighed, this training was going nowhere, with Jay's bursts of anger it was hard to get him focused on one thing at a time. The assassin adjusted his clothes, watching as Jay punched the wall, gritting his teeth and bloodying his knuckles before he tired himself out. Jay breathed heavily, turning to look at the assassin with bright green eyes.
"Are you finished?" Danyal asked and Jay looked at him, Jay huffed and grabbed Danyal by the arm," you need to train now. Ra's Al Ghul will not allow you to stay otherwise," Danyal said. He knew that all too well, he had failed one of his first missions and received twenty lashes for it. He had been young and foolish, with no training behind him, his mother had died giving birth to him and his father wanted nothing to do with him. Danyal had grown up on the streets, Ra's Al Ghul found him and offered him a place in the League of Assassins, for that Danyal owed Ra's.
---
"Hey Danny, why are you even in the League? You seem like you don't really like hurting people," Jay said, laying on his bed and staring at the ceiling of his and Danny's shared room. The other male was silent, Jay looked over to see Danyal glaring at him as he laid on his back.
"I've told you not to call me Danny. My name is Danyal," the assassin snapped and Jay rolled his eyes, he sat up in his bed and propped his body up with his elbow. The assassin rolled over on his side, his back now facing Jay, the other male sighed when Danyal wouldn't look at him and allowed his body to fall back into the think mattress. Jay closed his eyes, memories burning in his brain and his mouth feeling dry," sometimes I get...glimpses of memory, I think it's my family. Then I remember laughter and pale skin and everything gets fuzzy," he described.
"I sometimes think of who I used to be. How I used to spend nights wishing I could have seen my mother's face and felt her warmth, Ra's Al Ghul found me and brought me here where he gave me a purpose. I do not want to kill, but it is what I have to do to continue living," Danyal said and Jay frowned. Jay planned on leaving, he didn't know what it was but he felt like he wasn't meant to be here, when he did leave he planned on trying to convince Danyal to come with him.
---
Jay grinned as he finally got the hang of the fighting style that the League used, throwing a calculated punch and letting his grin widen when he landed a hit on Danyal. The assassin smiled at him and lunged forward, jumping up to wrap his legs around Jay's neck in an attempt to cut off his air supply. Danyal was throw off and pinned to the ground, the two of them breathed heavily.
"So...do you think I'll have Ra's' approval? Jay huffed and Danyal hummed, resting his head against the ground beneath him.
"I have no idea, he will likely send you on a mission to assess your skill. I will likely be sent with you," Danyal said as Jay got off of him, offering a hand to pull the assassin to his feet. Danyal hesitantly accepted the offered hand, he had been trained that accepting help showed weakness, maybe he was wrong.
---
"You disappoint me, you were supposed to train him. Not become attached," Ra's Al Ghul sneered as Danyal bowed at his feet, the assassin didn't dare look at him. Danyal knew better then to meet Ra's Al Ghul's eyes," he will no longer be your responsibility. He has poisoned your mind with compassion," the old man said.
Ra's Al Ghul pulled the broadsword from his belt," raise your head, boy," the old man snapped and Danyal obeyed, not daring to show how terrified he was. The old man pulled his sword back and Danyal closed his eyes, accepting his fate, he knew that this was the punishment for failures to the League.
Everything was over in an instant, he felt the blade entering and leaving his body, his blood soaking his clothes and then everything starting to become cold. Danyal fell forward and Ra's wiped the blood off of his blade, turning to Jay who was standing in the corner staring at Danyal's body.
"Dispose of the body," Ra's ordered before walking out of the room, Jay ran forward and fell to his knees, pulling Danyal's body into his arms.
"This is my fault. I got attached to you...I..I remember who I am," Jay said and Danyal smiled weakly, reaching up to put a hand on Jay's cheek," my name is Jason. I'm going to go back to Gotham and make things better because my old man refuses to," he said and Danyal hummed.
"Dip my body in the pits. Quickly, I want to come with you, Jason," Danyal pleaded and Jason hesitated before nodding, standing up and carefully supporting the assassins body. Jason's skin crawled as he got close to the pits, he ignored it as he kneeled down and submerged Danyal's body in the Lazarus Pit.
---
Danyal gasped as he sat straight up, seeing green all around him, he paused when he saw a clocktower in front of him. The assassin pushed himself to his feet and walked into the structure, he looked at the walls, purple ivy was growing up the walls and there was an odd chandelier hanging from the ceiling. He walked up a set of stairs that had materialized and paused when he saw a cloaked man floating at the top of the stairs.
"Who are you? What is this place?" Danyal demanded and the man turned to face him, wearing the face of an old man before his form shifted into that of a child. Danyal startled and reached for his broadswords, pausing when he couldn't feel them strapped to his back.
"I am Clockwork. You are in the Infinite Realms, some refer to it as the afterlife," the man, Clockwork, smiled and Danyal nodded slightly. Clockwork floated closer and Danyal took a step back," you have been chosen for a greater purpose Danyal, I will allow you to continue in life but you will not be the same as before," the man warned, Danyal hesitated before nodding. Clockwork hummed and reached forward, placing his hand on Danyal's forehead, before he knew what was happening Danyal was thrown back into consciousness.
He looked around wildly and looked around, seeing Jason looking at him with wide eyes, Danyal reached up and rubbed his head as he was still regaining his senses.
"Danyal? You look...different," Jason said and the former assassin looked at him in confusion, grabbing one of his broadswords and holding it front of his face. His eyes widened when he saw snow white hair on top of his head and toxic green eyes in place of his usual blue. The larger male shook his head," that doesn't matter though, let's get out of here before Ra's comes," Jason said with a grin, Danyal nodded, a full body chill going through him when his appearance shifted back to normal.
"Let's go to Gotham Jason, and please, call me Danny,"
