Taking Some Time for Yourself

Summary:

Eva could never understand how Diana could so easily put herself out there and socialize with their… eccentric classmates. Maybe she can help her take some time for herself.

Notes:

Howdy folks! New fic writer here. Just wanted to write something short and cute for myself and I hope others can enjoy it as well!

Work Text:

Eva hummed and flipped the page of the novel she was reading. It was nothing particularly interesting, just something to kill the time until her girlfriend got back. She had some prior obligation with Kai of all people. How Diana could spend so much time with their classmates both impressed and concerned her. More than once had Eva caught Diana sighing, almost deflating as she entered Eva’s apartment.

It seemed even the most outwardly social could get tired of people eventually.

But they had a date today, so she hoped Kai would finish whatever menial task required her girlfriend’s help. They had planned to have lunch at a cute sandwich shop Eva had found a few weeks ago and was particularly fond of. She was admittedly pretty excited to go.

Diana was always so enthusiastic when trying things she knew Eva liked, even if it wasn’t her cup of tea. And in turn, if a few of their classmates noticed Eva’s eye bags disappear or that she had a fresh coat of nail polish on, nobody said anything.

Eva was snapped out of her thoughts by the rattle of keys in her door. She gently set her book down and stood up to get the door. She heard huffing on the other side as Diana fiddled with the key. The lock could be a pain to open sometimes, it just took practice. Finally the door flew open, almost hitting her in the face.

“Oh my goodness I am so sorry!” Diana exclaimed, approaching Eva and looking over her for injuries, even though the door had missed her entirely.

“It’s fine, I didn’t get hit. How was Kai?” She prodded, trying to get a read on how Diana was feeling. Sometimes the other girl was too good at hiding her feelings and would often shrug off any questions about her own wellbeing.

“Oh you know him,” she chuckled. “He got roped into Cassidy’s game tournament and managed to somehow convince Damon as well. Between you and me, I think they have something going on. Anyways, since a lot of the guys were there, they decided the punishment for losing would be a makeover, which is ridiculous, because men wear makeup all the time! That doesn’t make anyone ‘less of a man’! But I was bribed with the promise of food, which I obviously turned down because we’re going out and-“

She cut herself off, making eye contact with Eva who had raised her eyebrows, concern visible on her face. She then opened her arms wide, stepping forward again and offering herself to her girlfriend.

This time it was Diana whose eyebrows rose comically high on her forehead. Sure they had hugged plenty before, they were in a relationship after all, but she could count on one hand the amount of times Eva initiated. The other girl would always communicate if she needed space or if she was okay with physical contact, but she was rarely the one to start a hug.

“So a staring contest instead then?” Eva asked, amused at her girlfriend’s bewildered face.

“No,I was just… surprised”, Diana mumbled, her cheeks reddening as she stepped forward and sank into the hug. She let out a deep sigh and almost melted into the other girl, nuzzling her nose into Eva’s neck.

They stayed like that for several moments, swaying in silence, Eva rubbing circles onto Diana’s back.

“So we’re staying in I take it?” Eva questioned. She saw how exhausted the other girl was. They could always go some other time.

“No!” Diana’s head snapped up as she exclaimed. “You’ve been waiting all week for this! We’re not going to miss it because I’m a little tired. I’ll be fine!” Diana tried to insist, but Eva decided then and there that she wouldn’t be budging.

“The place isn’t closing down as we speak. We’ll have plenty of opportunities to go there some other time. We can stay in, have a cozier date, maybe watch a movie and eat snacks.”

As she plead her case, Eva was slowly walking them to her bed. Diana, realizing what was happening, stopped them.

“But baaaaaabe” she bemoaned theatrically, “You’ve been looking forward to this forever. We always do whatever I want. When do we ever do anything you want?”

“Strange, I was about to say the same about you.” Eva responded dryly. “We’re staying in for tonight and that’s that. We’re taking care of you, because you don’t do it for yourself enough. I can’t remember the last time I saw you genuinely smile when it’s not just the two of us.”

Diana attempted to argue back, but before she could, Eva placed a quick peck on her lips, effectively shutting her up. She then started gently placing kisses all over her face, drawing giggles from the other girl. While Diana was distracted from the attention, Eva guided them toward her bed, and when she saw the backs of Diana’s knees hit the mattress, she gently pushed the other girl down in a sitting position before sitting in her lap, with her hands on her sides for stability.

Diana was flustered beyond belief at this point and could only continue to giggle as her girlfriend continued her onslaught of kisses.

Eva pulled pack slightly, looking at her face, satisfied with the results. Diana was smiling from ear to ear with a bright blush on her face.

“You should laugh more. Not that fake laugh when one of our classmates tells a terrible joke, but a real, genuine laugh. I hear it’s good for you.” Eva states like it’s a fact, before going in for the kill, gently squeezing Diana’s sides, pulling out full belly laughter from the other girl.

“Nohohoho!” She whines between bouts of laughter. Diana tries to escape, but due to the other girl’s weight on her legs, she can’t escape the attack from her betrayer. She can see a satisfied smirk on the face of her oh so cruel attacker.

Eva lets up after only a moment, and Diana flops backwards onto the mattress, breathless. She almost felt lighter. She feels her girlfriend's weight leave her lap before feeling the mattress sink at her side, and an arm wrap around her midsection. She tenses and giggles again, preparing for another assault, but when she turns to meet Eva’s eyes, all she sees is earnest curiosity.

“So we’re staying in, yes?”
