Chapter Text
Jack landed hard on the ground, misjudging the location of a tree branch upon his descent from the sky. Bunny landed right next to him, gracefully as usual. "Are ya alright?" He asked with concern. "That landing looked a bit rough."
Jack groaned as he felt an ache in his back. He glanced up at his fellow Guardian and huffed. The Pooka always seemed to land without a problem no matter where they raced to despite his size. While Jack, even after three hundred plus years of being Jack Frost, still had days where he felt new to his legs. "I'll live" he muttered, still on the ground. He held one hand out for one of Aster's paws, "Help me up Kangaroo".
Aster gave Jack an unimpressed look before replying, "For that I might just leave ya laying there." Despite his words though he still reached for Jack's hand and pulled the young spirit up easily.
Jack smirked, grabbed his staff, then crowded into Bunny's space. "But if you had left me there I couldn't have done this." Placing his hands on the Pooka's chest Jack leaned up for a kiss. However, he was interrupted by the sound of laughter. With narrowed eyes Jack looked around and noticed a little girl who seemed around eight or so and was standing not too far away from them. She was watching them and giggling with a hand covering her mouth.
Aster, who been holding Jack's waist and had instinctively tightened his hold after hearing the laughter, followed Jack's gaze. His grip on Jack relaxed when he saw the little girl. He smiled gently at her and released Jack altogether. Both of them turned towards her as she waved a small hand. Aster gave her a small wave back while Jack blew a snowflake her way. The little one laughed again as the snowflake landed on her nose. The moment was broken right after though when they all heard someone calling out. It must have been someone calling for the girl because she said a quick bye and ran towards a woman a little ways away.
Jack was still smiling warmly when he glanced around and realized they were currently standing on the lawn of one of the local churches. Some kind of gathering was going on as a crowd of people lingered in the parking lot. He thought for a moment, curious about it. He didn't really keep up with the days or time too much anymore, just the seasons but if he remembered right there was no mass that moment. Jack frowned, he knew not too many other doings with large crowds would be held at a church around this time except for funerals or...
"A wedding" Bunny answered Jack's unspoken question. He nodded to the spot near one of the entrances. Jack looked that way and sure enough a woman in a long white dress with silver trim and a furry white shawl wrapped around her shoulders stood next to a man in a traditional black suit.
"A winter wedding" Jack corrected as a cool chill blew around them, seemingly called at Jack's words. He didn't know why but the thought of a wedding in the winter made him smile.
With the wind picking up Aster began to feel the cold through his fur and he shivered. "About time to head out for me I think, ya coming? " He looked at Jack and noticed his friend hadn't heard him, he seemed to engrossed in the old building in front of them.
Jack had always found that church, the structure of it, beautiful and with the light layer snow it seemed to shimmer like something out of a painting. He smiled then glanced at the couple again. They were heading inside and a question popped in his head as he watched them go. "Ya alright?" He heard Bunny ask from next to him. He glanced back his friend's way. "Yeah," Jack replied with a nod. "I was just thinking, do we, spirits, immortals or whatever, do we do that?"
Aster gave Jack a puzzled look briefly before looking back at the crowd entering the church (feeling a bit envious that they were leaving the cold ), "Get married?" He asked, still confused.
"Yeah" Jack replied, knowing that it might sound kinda odd that he was unsure. "I guess I've spent so much time focusing on the human world since I became Jack Frost, I haven't learned a lot about ours. "
Aster nodded at that, understanding a little anyway. Though he'd like to talk to Jack more about that another time. Right now he wanted to answer as quickly as possible. "Some do. It's a bit different though then for the humans, it involves magic most of time and well," he shrugged a shoulder and thought for a second. "It's a bigger commitment." Jack gave him a questioning look so he expanded his answer. "The vows, the till death part, well we're immortal so..." He trailed off and Jack finished the sentence. "So it's more of a forever thing." Bunny gave a quick nod then spoke up again, "I'm freezing my tail off so I gotta go, ya coming?" He tried again.
Jack looked surprised briefly, he felt kinda bad for keeping Bunny out so long. He laughed softly, "Yeah, can't have that."
Aster opened a portal to his Warren with a tap of his foot then and with one last glance at the church Jack jumped in. Bunny looked back too, thinking about the look on Jack's face before following him to the warmth of his home.
