Work Text:
Jay is incredibly nervous; his leg jumps up and down as he writes down his ideas in his journal. He’s planning a first date for him and Jungwon, and yes, technically, it isn't a first date. They’ve been on countless ones, but this is their first one where they both have acknowledged that they care and love more than friends should.
He knows he shouldn’t be worrying about this date. He’s known Jungwon since they were kids. They grew up together, from meeting at the playground to running to the cafe after school to study for hours. The younger boy always used to run behind him, which he didn’t mind. Once they both made it to middle school, he and Jungwon walked side by side. They made it a habit to meet up outside school and head to a cafe to sit and talk about their day. Jongseong always ordered and paid for their drinks as Jungwon sat at their table.
The table has been special to them since they were younger until now. It had small imperfections; it was wobbly, which Jay fixed by placing a napkin every time they came in; there were drawings on it that Jungwon had doodled when he was younger; and there were chips in the wood stain. But it was perfect for them. It had the perfect view of the outside but kept them hidden from the pearing eyes of outsiders. Just how they liked it.
Entering college was difficult for Jongseong, knowing there was a chance he and Jungwon could be separated, but in the end the boy chose to follow him. Now that they’re older and have matured, Jongseong can finally see how much Jungwon has grown up, so much so that he was the one to ask out Jay, which makes him so incredibily nervous.
Even though they have been dating for two months and have known one another for years, all he wants is for the date to go well enough that Jay does not appear to be an idiot.
He needs it to be perfect; it’s what Jungwon deserves, and Jay wants to be able to provide that for him. If he doesn't, then he doesn’t think he’s very worthy of the other.
He has a long plan it’s lengthy but he put so much thought into it and he hopes that the younger will be able to enjoy what he picked. Wait, what if he doesn’t? What if he thinks Jay’s trying too hard and makes fun of him? Would Jungwon ever react like that?
There are so many possibilities of how this night could end; this is Jay’s worst fear.
A knock at his door makes him pause his thinking. There’s a pause before the knock starts again, but this time in a rhythm. It was a knock he and Jungwon had made up when they used to play in the park. To let the other know to come out of hiding in the tiny playhouse they had there.
Jongseong chuckles at how cute Jungwon is to still use it even now when they’re in college. He can hear the other boys giggle as he gets closer to the door. Turning the knob, he opens the door, fully letting Jungwon fully appear in front of him.
“Hyung, it’s cold.” Jungwon pouts as he speaks. His head titled to the side makes him look softer as he’s wrapped in that giant scarf he loves so much. If it were physically possible, Jay’s heart would be on the ground, broken from how heartbreakingly cute Jungwon looks.
“Come in,” he ushers the younger boy in. He helps him take off his abnormally big coat that is definitely Jay’s and his scarf while Jungwon takes off his own shoes.
“Did you walk here?” he asks. Not that it’s a far walk from their campus where Jungwon stays, but still, in this weather, he would have gone to pick him up. “It’s not that long of a walk.”
“But look at you now; you’re all cold; your nose is so red.” Jongseong can’t hold back from cupping the blonde’s face. His eyes are drawn to the pout Jungwon has. His head tilted makes him look like a confused kitten.
He moves forward, placing a peck on his forehead, and moves back to look at those eyes he loves so much. Jungwon blinks cutely. If anyone could blink cutely, its him, Jay thinks. “Kiss,” the blonde mumbles out.
Jay laughs, his head thrown back and his eyes crinkled at how cute Jungwon is. He complies with the others request. He kisses his right cheek, his left cheek, and the red nose that started this all. Jungwon makes an unstatisfied noise and Jay finally gives in.
He allows himself to be enamored with everything that is Jungwon by lowering his forehead to Jungwons. He nudges his nose against Jungwon's, and their mouths fall together. The room had gotten cold as he admired Jungwon as he was outside, but kissing him made Jongseong warm up. His lips were soft against Jay’s chapped ones.
Jongseong pulls back from the others lips unwillingly, but they still have to breathe. He hadn’t seen Jungwon in a week due to their final schedules, but it felt like a lifetime to him.
“Did you miss me, Hyung?” Jungwon asks from the space in between his neck and shoulder. “Is that even a question? I always miss you, Wonie.” The blonde sighs what sounds like a happy sigh. “Missed you too.”
Jongseong melts at the way Jungwon mumbles. The other isn't big on communicating how he feels in reality and prefers to mask it. Which is different from how Jay wears his heart on his sleeve, but he doesn’t mind.
He knows Jungwon more than anyone.
Jungwon pulls away from their hug, and Jay mourns the warmth, taking a glance at his open laptop and journal. “What were you doing before I came?” he asks curiously.
After a moment of hesitation, he shuts the journal and closes the laptop. “Nothing,” he smiles nervously. "Hyung, what are you hiding?”
“Who say’s I'm hiding something?” Jungwon stares at him with an unimpressed face. His hands resting on his hips make Jongseong hold a chuckle back. “Your left eyebrow is twitching. It only does that when you’re hiding something.”
"What?” he sputters in disbelief. “There’s no way you know that.” Does he actually do that? “I do. So what’s going on?” Jungwon’s eyebrows crease in worry; he's not mad. Jay sighs in relief.
“I was planning our date. I don’t want to spoil the surprise, so that’s why I lied.” He confesses. Jungwon coos at him. “Hyung, that’s cute; you don't have to look so ashamed.”
Jongseong can feel himself pouting. “I’m not ashamed.” Jungwon places his hands on his cheeks softly, gently grasping his face. “Your head is hanging down like I just scolded you.”
“Oh,” his lips jut out more. He hadn’t even noticed he had looked down, shying away from Jungwon’s gaze. “You’re so cute when you pout. Do you know that?”
Jay want’s to deny it, but he knows Jungwon will refute it until he inavitably agrees to it.
Jungwon stands on his tiptoes to press a kiss to his forehead, both sides of his cheeks, and his nose. Just like Jay did to him. It warms him all over again.
He expresses gratitude to whoever brought him to this lovely boy in this lifetime.
Jungwon, who has the most adorable round eyes Jongseong loves to lose himself in, the softest pink lips he loves to kiss, the cutest cheeks he loves to pinch, his kind heart, and everything that made him Yang Jungwon.
In the past, Jongsong believed that he was created to love, not to be loved. Born to care, not to be cared for. Born to understand, not be understood.
But he was wrong. Jungwon will love and care for him and understand him.
“I don’t care about a perfectly planned date. I care about you. As long as you’re there and we’re happy, it’s a date.” Jungwon leans against his forehead. He’s smiling, his dimples on display, and Jay’s heart thumps.
“Got it, Hyung?” He nods quickly. "Good, let’s stay in and watch a movie I’m cold.” Jongseong laughs; he was so worried for nothing. How could he forget how sweet Jungwon was?
“Come on, or I’m taking all the cover.” Jungwon shouts from his living room. He turns off his browser, making sure to save his date ideas for later use. A photo of Jungwon and him shows as he closes his laptop. It was taken when Jungwon first dyed his hair blonde and surpised him.
“Hyung, hurry up.” Jay turns his head and see’s the blonde leaning on his doorframe wrapped up in their blanket. “Coming,” he says, shutting his laptop as he walks towards the other.
He ruffles the blonde hair, wrapping an arm around Jungwon. This is a way better idea for their first date.
