Chapter 1: The Betrayal of Percy and Annabeth
Percy and Annabeth signed in relief that the Giant War was over. Now they could finally rest and get back to how they were.
Both of them were just plain exhausted. Fighting back-to-back wars had not been good for them. And adding Tartarus to that situation just bought it over the top.
After this award ceremony they decided, they were going to take time ‘off’ from the duties of being a hero and the Leaders of the camp. They just needed a break away from everyone. Otherwise, they feared they would get themselves killed by sheer exhaustion.
What the pair did not understand was who the two new demigods were. They hadn’t had time to be introduced to them. Everything had just been so hectic.
Both of them were really trying to pay attention. But all they wanted to do was sleep.
“Demigods!” Zeus booms startling Percy and Annabeth, “Most of you have done really well in protecting Olympus from the Giants”
Percy frowns. What did Zeus mean but most? He felt Annabeth clutch his hand. She had a feeling something bad was happening.
“But before we get to the awards. We have grim business to discuss!” Zeus tells them, “We have been betrayed by two of our own!”
Annabeth and Perry gasp now having the feeling of dread filling them.
No, this cannot be.
“Who my Lord?” Jason asks.
“By Percy Jackson, son of Poseidon and Annabeth Chase, daughter of Athena!” Zeus announces.
Shouting starts to happen around the room. By mostly the girls much to Percy and Annabeth’s shock Jason, Frank and Leo weren’t supporting them. And neither were their parents and most of the Olympian Council. The only one of the Council that were supporting them surprisingly was Artemis. Hades and Hestia were protesting on their temporary thrones as were many of the Minor Goddesses.
“SILENCE!” Zeus roars.
Everything goes silent for a moment.
“Perseus Jackson, Annabeth Chase do you have anything to say for yourselves?”
“My Lord, we have NEVER betrayed you and we would never betray our friends, family and comrades”, Percy protests.
“We have ever only served Olympus faithfully”, Annabeth adds.
“Lies . . . lies . . . lies”, come from around the room.
“Then answer this question Perseus honestly. Did you or did you not release Gaea with your blood?” Athena asks him coldly.
Percy freezes but slowly nods, “I did. But it was an accident . . .”
“A likely story”, Hera states sarcastically.
“That’s not what happened”, Apollo states.
“It is true!” Percy protests.
“Desmond and Adriana come forward and tell us what you both have found”, Zeus instructs.
The two unknown demigods come forward.
“Who are they?” Annabeth asks.
“Desmond is my favourite son”, Poseidon states proudly.
“As is Adriana my favourite daughter”, Athena adds.
“They have showed us proof that you two are traitors to Olympus”, Zeus informs them.
“Father! I’ve told you that they are lying!” Artemis protests.
“Silence daughter! Speak only when spoken too!” Zeus snaps at her.
She flinches back. Artemis gives Percy and Annabeth a look silently telling them she tried. They return her look with one of understanding.
“Iris bring forth the memory they have provided”, Zeus orders.
She does and it clearly showed Percy and Annabeth conspiring with Gaea and her allies. It also showed Percy deliberately spilling his blood to fully awaken Gaea.
“I think we have seen enough”, Zeus states stopping the memories.
“Those have been fabricated my Lord!” Percy protests.
“They have been checked and double checked. You both are guilty. Does the Council agree?” Zeus asks the group.
All of them raise their hands. Besides from Artemis that is. Percy and Annabeth barely saw the furious looks directed at her from her family.
They were just numb in shock.
After everything they have done to save Olympus, how could they believe this bullshit story?
“Can’t you see THIS is their plan to get rid of us!” Annabeth protests.
Athena snorts, “I would see through it in a second. You’re just trying to save your own skin”
“Please! They are manipulating you!” Percy shouts.
He was joined by those that believed that he and Annabeth were telling the truth. And sadly, many of their friends were not in those protests.
“ENOUGH!” Zeus booms and lightning crashes around the room.
Making everyone go silent.
“You’re lucky I am merciful . . .”, Zeus starts.
Many snort quietly at that.
“. . . and that I have decided to spare your lives . . .”
Percy and Annabeth took a breath hoping against hope that Zeus would . . .
“. . . you are BOTH hereby banished from Olympus, the Camps and all our personal places of power. Including New York and San Francisco. On pain of death . . .”
“But my Mum lives in New York!” Percy protests
“And my family in San Francisco!” Annabeth protests.
“That is not our problem. You should have thought of that before you betrayed us!” Poseidon growls.
“We DIDN’T betray you! You are betraying us!” Percy shouts.
But nobody was listening to them.
“You have till till sundown before we eliminate you for being in our territory”, Zeus informs them coldly.
Percy and Annabeth look out and sundown was probably only an hour away.
“If I was you, I would hurry, as dusk approaches and your time is running out”
Both of the betrayed heroes knew that they did not stand a chance . . .
