Chapter Text
In and out. That’s all this was supposed to be. Go in, get the information needed and get out. Easy peasy, Right? So can someone please explain to Nightwing why he’s staring into the whited out eye slits of a certain red helmet?
“Hood, what are you doing here?” Nightwing gritted out, “This is my reconnaissance mission, so you can leave.”
“Well first off, you’re in my territory. Second off, I didn’t realize that I wasn’t allowed to take care of things happening in said territory. And third off, fuck you I don’t have to leave,” Red Hood countered.
“Smartass,” he grumbled, then sighed out, “Just… If you’re going to be here, at the very least let me get the information I need.”
Hood shifted a bit to peer in through the skylight they were crouched next to before answering, “What information are you even trying to get here? It’s pretty clear that these guys are working for Two Face, and you know damn well that the GCPD has more than enough to throw him back into Arkham.”
“We have reason to believe that he’s planning something big so we’re trying to get ahead of him and make a plan.”
“Alright, you get your information and I’ll take out his goons. Problem solved and we can move on with the night,” Hood said, throwing open the skylight and dropping down onto one of the beams of the warehouse.
Nightwing dropped down after him, grabbed his arm and whispered fiercely. “Hood, I can’t have you just go and take them out right away! I just told you I needed information, this is supposed to be an in and out sort of thing. We don’t want Two Face to know that we’re on to him just yet.”
“So what, you just want me to let these guys continue doing operations here in the Bowery? Not happening.”
Of course Red Hood was being difficult, why would Nightwing expect anything less from his little brother? He needed to get Hood to cooperate with him, at least until he gathered enough intel from the goons. Usually, bribing him with food or other goods worked out well, but something told him that Hood wouldn’t go for the usual bribes this time around.
Nightwing heaved out a sigh and hoped that he wouldn’t end up regretting what he was about to suggest. He turned to look at Hood and said, “Tell you what, you help me out with this exactly as planned and I’ll… I’ll let you do whatever you want with me for just one month.”
Clearly this caught Hood’s attention, as he whipped his head around to stare directly at Nightwing. “Anything I want?”
“Anything you want.”
“For just one month?”
“For just one month.”
Hood seemed to ponder for a moment before deciding, “Alright then, you got yourself a deal. Let’s get this over with then, shall we?” With that, Hood moved to the other side of the warehouse.
The warehouse was small with only one catwalk running down the middle of it. There were nine goons in total, with two at the entrance, four on the floor, and three on the catwalk. The shipment containers were all moved to the back wall to make room for tables and whiteboards. It wasn’t going to be easy to move in and see what was written down without being spotted.
Nightwing then heard a series of whistles and clicks crackle through his comms low enough that the goons down below couldn’t hear them but clear enough to make out. It took no time at all for him to decipher what was said in the secret language that only the Robins’ knew. ‘I don’t see a way for us to get anything without taking those guards down.’ He couldn’t argue with that, as long as they weren’t seen everything should be fine. He whistled back to give him the green light on taking the guards out.
Hood dropped down behind the guy on the right of the catwalk, while Nightwing dropped down on the one on the left. They made short work of knocking them out and swiftly moved to the one in between them. With all three goons down they got to work on collecting information.
After an hour of eavesdropping on the goons, the pair of vigilantes grapled out of the warehouse to a nearby rooftop to go over everything they collected. Both parties gathered recordings of conversations between goons and pictures of documents with orders printed out on them. Hood even managed to find blueprints to buildings in different parts of Gotham with different areas marked in black marker. He then handed everything off to Nightwing making the excuse of being too busy to go to the cave.
“I can’t wait for next month to begin. Hope you’re ready for it, Dickie!” Hood practically sang out before grappling away. Nightwing could hear the smirk behind his words and sighed before grappling off towards the cave. Now he had to prepare for whatever his brother had in store for him, thankful that the others would take over the Two Face case from here on. It was going to be a long month, but he could endure it. After all, it was for just one month.
Just…. One…. Month….
