Please remember that I don't know anything about Slavic mythology, so I apologize for the inaccuracies. Also, I know Yggdrasil is Norse, I just felt like it fit.

Doors: An alphabetical 26 sentence story

A door to the future and past opened in front of her, a lit with various colors. Blues and purples flowed from the door like liquid staining the glass underfoot with galaxies and stars. Curious about it she crouched down to dip her fingers into the liquid. Despite the disturbance no ripples appeared, the light emanating from the stars failed to illuminate the distance, as if trapped under the colors. Each star moved separately undisturbed by her fingers.

Fear encompassed her constricting around her heart and eyes and with a start her head shot up to observe the door. Galaxies formed in front of her eyes; the stars brought up from the floor were formed into suns and constellations; the light burned her eyes searing an image unknown to man into her brain to be seen for eternity, she pondered if eternity even existed oblivious to the gold dripping down her face like blood from a god; the rotations of the stars never stopped, continuously rippling across the surface of the door as if a deity was weaving the galaxies into a tapestry of the universe uncaring of the final image; supernovas scattered leaving permanent marks in their wake.

Harmonies sounded from beyond startling her out of the trance causing her to fling herself backwards, away from the colors and nightmare in the door. Immediately the door slammed shut and with a burst of light it disappeared plunging the space into darkness. Just the darkness descended upon her she felt something in the air shift, a warning. Keeping her composure she stood up slowly and started walking letting her instincts guide her.

Leisurely she traveled straight through the darkness, if it was a dream she hoped to wake up soon. Many minutes or hours later, time had no meaning here, she stumbled upon another door, this time shut and decorated with intricate carvings of trees, crowns, and suns, like a scene from a fairytale. Not wanting to risk anything she avoided touching the door and instead sat down before it. Over an hour later she got bored of waiting and stood up to reach after the door handle.

Peacefully it swung open to reveal a sprawling meadow of wildflowers all in various shades of purple and blue, the sun was rising in the meadow casting a pleasant hue over the grasses, there was not a cloud or tree in sight. Quirking her lips down in a faint frown she took a step inside, almost immediately the door slammed shut and when she turned around it had disappeared. Rain clouds loomed on the far side of the meadow, just far away enough to not be heard.

Suddenly she was gripped by a foreboding feeling so strong that moving felt like she was ripping her body apart, a large shadow from behind her slowly blocked the sun plunging her into the cold darkness once again. Turning around slowly she saw a huge tree, its limbs sprawling out for miles and the crown was hidden by blue leaves and flowers.

Unable to process the true sight of Yggdrasil, veins burst from behind her eyes replacing the red with gold, brain neurons rewired, in agony she cried out clawing at her eyes but it was no use, the transformation had already started. Visions of worlds long gone danced in her head clouding her memories and rewriting her existence. When the visions stopped and her body cooled she opened her eyes and was met with colors the human mind couldn’t comprehend, gone were the blues and purples and in their places were the colors of the suns, the true eyes of the universe.

Xeric winds swept across Yggdrasil forming a crown of leaves out of the infinite branches. Yielding to the call of power she ascended the tree, when she sat on the throne the final requirement was met, leaves turned into suns wiping the last of humanity from existence and giving her a new name, her true name.

Zorya.
