Chapter Text

“The Kingdom of Gardenview is proud to announce the engagement between Prince Sprout and Lady Shelly”

Cosmo couldn’t help but squeal at the official invite from Gardenview. It had been weeks since the announcement and he had snagged a copy of the invitation. Tracing the edges of the ivory and gold detailing, the roulette felt himself become warm with joy because weddings were such a big deal! The amount of preparation in decorations, food, outfits, and all the wonderful things that royalty can purchase to ensure that it would be remembered. It was truly a heartwarming union set to come, he just knew it would go well for the lady.

He would definitely be there as he would be working as Shelly’s personal maid. Since the fossilian is an omega, Cosmo has always been there for her since early adulthood. Being an omega himself, he could aid her more efficiently since her pheromones didn’t affect him. Truthfully, he loved his job tending to her as she showed nothing but grace and respect to all the worker toons. So it delighted him to know that a person he respected was betrothed and would experience happiness in a new way. Especially since she was marrying a prince! Albeit an arranged marriage, but still a prince nonetheless!

Today would be another day to look forward too and on that note, he lifted himself from his bed to get dressed for the day. There was no time to delay as the Manor of Fossilian has been in an uproar for the past week preparing for tonight.

Lady Shelly sighed while adjusting herself in her seat.

“Lady Shelly, please stay still.” The fossil turned to her right to see her personal maid and beautician exasperated.

“You both worry too much! Everything looks fine!” Shelly gave a restless look, she wanted an excuse to stretch her legs. She’s been getting ready for over two hours now! Cosmo and her other maids/helpers have been adamant about making sure her dress was fitted properly and that her makeup was immaculate.

Glisten, the royal beautician, took his sweet time to ensure that she looked ready to marry a prince. However, sitting still for that long would drive anyone crazy! Who knew marrying the prince of the kingdom you lived in would require so much effort?

“Lady Shelly, we will be done momentarily. I know you wish to be done promptly.” The mirror stated plainly while packing on more powder onto a puff.

Shelly groaned but accepted defeat while Cosmo softly giggled at her. A noblewoman such as her never really acted this way. He supposed it could be due to her nerves making her feel this way. The prince would be arriving within the next hour at the palace so time was ticking.

“My lady. How about we talk about dinosaurs?” Cosmo suggested to help her relax.

“Hmmmm. Usually my head’s filled with knowledge but right now, I don’t know what to discuss.”

“Well…what’s the laziest dinosaur you know?” This earned a laugh from the royal omega.

“Honestly, that would be the Brachiosaurus,” Shelly began, “They were HUGE! I read in a book that they probably only moved a leg at a time because of their height. Oh but what makes them lazy is that they didn’t even chew their food! They just swallowed it!”

A smile appeared on the pastry’s face as Shelly continued chattering on. Her shoulders now dropped in a more relaxed state. Stress didn’t suit her at all, but now they could get their work done quickly.

Soon enough, she was finally finished and ready for the party. Everybody took a step back to admire their hard work while quickly ushering everybody to their new practiced roles. The event would begin soon and they needed to get from point A to point B.

Cosmo and the other maids accompanied Shelly to walk towards the main area in the venue. Her beautiful wine red dress framing her as the embodiment of royalty. A train accompanied the gown which required the other maids to lift. Although the noble already had curly, golden locks, the curls were more defined and Glisten’s techniques accentuated their charm. Golden embellishments we’re placed carefully around her neck, hair, and waist. You would think it would be too much, but the combination of the rouge pigment only gave it more prominence. The personal attendant had always thought Shelly was beautiful but today she exuded a more regal aura.

“I’m quite nervous,” spoke the soon to be princess, “I hope everything works out considering I still don’t know much about the prince.”

Cosmo understood her worries. Hell, he wouldn’t even know how to go about marrying someone you didn’t even know. Information about the Prince was always riddled with rumors and theories. Some of the gossip from the other maids suggested that the prince can come across as too direct or even “blunt.”

While stories circled around his achievements such as how he could take down armies of men, there was never much said about his personal life.

‘As long as he’s kind to Shelly, none of those rumors matter.” The maid thought to himself.

“I’m sure that with the time before the wedding, you’ll be able to get to know him more.” He flashed a grin towards the nervous fossil.

“You’re right. There’s plenty of time!”

Shelly smiled cheerfully and seemed more relaxed. They stopped before the doors that would open to greet her. Cosmo grabbed onto Shelly’s hand quickly giving a reassuring squeeze before going to let the guards know to open the door. She appreciated this gesture and flashed a grin before he left. All that was left now was to present the soon to be princess and they had practiced greatly for this moment. A booming voice could be heard behind the doors signaling that the herald was already starting the event. The ammonite gently clenched her fists before taking a deep breath. Being the center of attention was nothing new as her lineage had always been linked to their upmost loyalty to the kingdom. Their past aids in bringing an end to wars and battles by providing money, men, and even materials is exactly how she ended up with this fate.

The king of Gardenview was deeply pleased by the above and beyond actions. He guaranteed the Fossilian family that they would someday be part of the royal lineage which brings us to the present day.

“All rise for their Majesties!” Shuffling of chairs echoed throughout the room and snapped Shelly back to reality. After a couple seconds, the doors opened revealing Lady Shelly. She stepped out where the imperial staircase was flat at the top.

The venue was absolutely breathtaking and it took everything in the royal to not gasp. Scarlet and ruby silk and fabrics were placed throughout the hall. Aureate accessories accompanied the rich pigment as well. Every table seemed to have the same color pattern of the red and gold theme while having roses as the centerpiece. All their precious time and work truly paid off, and most nobility would agree that this was truly a royal engagement fit for the groom and bride.

Heels stood on rich burgundy carpet that encased the stairs. On the opposite side stood Prince Sprout, adorned in a a matching red tailored outfit with a jacket. Golded tassels and an amulet displayed across his chest. His olive hair was slicked back but some pieces were carefully dissected to frame his face. Piercing amber eyes looked directly at Shelly, his face calm and collected.

Cosmo couldn’t help wincing while looking at the alpha. He stood behind Shelly to hold her train as they carefully took steps down the staircase. Stealing a glance at the prince while he also descended down the steps. No wonder Shelly was so nervous, the prince was intimidating!

This wasn’t the first time the maid omega had seen the prince, as they had practiced this moment with his presence. However, seeing his gaze just now brought shivers to his spine. Although he carried a commanding aura, Cosmo still hoped that his image was just for show and he would be caring towards the shell.

Once they reached the final step, Cosmo continued walked until they reached Shelly’s seat and he placed the dress down and allowed himself to stand back next to the other attendants as instructed.

The herald stood by the thrones and allowed time for both parties to adjust themselves before allowing the rest of the nobles in the room to sit as well.

“All gentles and nobles gathered here to mark the occasion of the betrothal between Prince Sprout and Lady Shelly!” The herald paused allowing for the room to fill with claps before continuing his speech.

Now Cosmo was starting to feel restless like Shelly did earlier. He was nervous.

But why?

It’s not like he was the one marrying the prince.
