Work Text:
Having the Junkers partner with Overwatch was definitely a weird choice orchestrated by Cole.
It all started with a simple mission, particularly one set in Junkertown. A gang had recently become a threat to the citizens there— which is of course not surprising, but had evolved into a dangerous one after holding The Queen hostage.
The Queen herself wasn't a stranger to these kinds of predicaments. A knock on the head and they would all fall over, yet even she knew it was a dangerous bet trying to escape by herself. A certain rat and hog just outside of Junkertown became her last resort. She knew they were capable of it, but just to be sure, she also contacted a few Overwatch agents to watch over them.
The team consisted of Cole, Echo, Lúcio, and Mei. The Queen had personally been in contact with Cole, where they had quickly allied with the agreement that they were both not fond of Null Sector.
The Junkers; Roadhog and Junkrat, met with the Overwatch group on the outskirts of the town. After planning their break-in, they were quick to move. The gang had taken control over half the city, and the throne was guarded by the boss and his goons. Echo had sneakily taken out snipers and watchdogs, while Lúcio and Mei sped over to freeze a couple more who stood guard in front of homes and in between alleyways.
Cole, Roadhog, and Junkrat traversed their way to the throne room, where they beat the door down to see The Queen tied up, accompanied by the man responsible.
After a couple of hooks, traps, and some quick lucky shots, the gang was no more.
"Odessa."
"Cassidy."
"Surprised to receive your call, I was half certain it was a ruse."
"Stop messing around and untie me!"
After The Queen had been freed, the rest of the Overwatch operators arrived.
"Ah, the mission was a success! And you're all unscathed, wonderful." Echo's voice and smile brightened up her entrance, then blissfully glided to shake The Queen's hand. Mei and Lúcio followed quickly behind her, doing the same and taking in their surroundings. "Wooowww... I've never been so close to royalty before!" Mei expressed her excitement to the group, "Oh, this? Naw, this is just a small piece of it. Wait till you see our ring fights. Loser gets to challenge me." The Queen replied, flaunting the room in confidence.
While they were all busy conversing, Junkrat had taken a look at the small man with the skates.
"Oi, Roadie, don't we know him from somewhere?" The rat elbowed the bigger man, whispering so as to not attract attention.
"No." He huffed.
"Stop pulling me leg, I know my memory's good enough to remember a bloke with glowing green hair." Junkrat glanced at the man again, who was slightly bopping his head to a rhythm.
Roadhog paused from inspecting his weapon. "Think he makes music." He said, now acknowledging who they were talking about.
"Yes! Ah, what was his name.. Lu.. Luci..— Lúcio!" The junker covered his mouth as he realized he had whisper-screamed the name. Thankfully, the music coursing through Lúcio's head was loud enough for the call out to be ignored.
"He's one of them DJ's, right? I've seen him on a screen." Junkrat had explained, now fascinated over the fact that he was near a celebrity.
Roadhog rolled his eyes behind his mask, sighing at how easily his partner-in-crime gets excited.
After Cole's goodbyes with The Queen, he approached the two.
"Hey y'all, nice work out there. The mission was a breeze." The cowboy tipped his hat at them, "Thanks." The big man had reciprocated. "Don't know how you'll fancy my request, but how about getting in the field with Overwatch? We'll provide rooms, breakfasts and dinners, give you resources for the uh.." Cole paused to point at the Junkers' weapons, "..the thinga-ma-bobs, and get trained by the very best."
Junkrat's smile had gleamed, his mouth nearly popping off of his face. Working in Overwatch? What a wish come true! After the westerner had finished, he quickly pulled Roadhog in a headlock, turning away from Cole.
"This is BIG! We can make our weapons look better, feel better. And the food, c'mon you can't deny that!" The rat said, trying to convince his partner.
"It'd be nice." Was all the hog said. "Great!"
Releasing Roadhog from the headlock, both he and Junkrat turned around to face Cole.
"We accept your offer, sir! Uh, when do we start?" Junkrat shook the man's hand excitedly.
The cowboy steadied himself after being tossed around, "Tomorrow morning. Pack your things and come to this location at 8 o'clock so we can leave by ship. It's a long flight, so I'm certain you both can behave well before we arrive at headquarters?" Cassidy had given them a small notecard, which contained the time and place of where they should head the next morning.
"Sir, yes sir!" Junkrat quickly saluted.
"Uh, please, just call me Cole."
--
After what felt like a long night, the duo approached the location, already seeing the humongous ship.
As they got their luggage packed in by some helpful assistants, Junkrat noticed the man again; Lúcio. He was sitting on a curb, fixing a skate that sat on his lap. "..Maybe I can get me an autograph.." The rat thought out loud, as he then hobbled towards the small man.
Lúcio was hard-focused on fixing this thing. The skate had malfunctioned during the mission yesterday and he couldn't risk it happening again. "G'day." He heard softly, the music coming from his headphones muffling the voice. Lúcio looked up towards the source, only to see a tall and skinny man who gave him just enough shade from the sun.
Oh, he's the Junker from yesterday, Lúcio pieced together.
"Hey there, uh, you excited?" The DJ asked.
Junkrat paused for a bit until he realized he was being asked about the move. "Oh! Yeah, am a little nervous.. but it'll be fun finally reaching my full potential." The rat let out a big sigh of relief. He loved his hometown but he admits the resources were holding him back by a little.
"Hey, that's nice. I'm looking forward to working with you." Lúcio chuckled, reaching out a hand towards the Junker so he could shake it.
The tall man smiled, shaking Lúcio's gloved hand. A weird feeling; for a moment, Junkrat could feel his heart pumping from adrenaline. It went away suddenly after letting go of his hand.
"Ya look busy. Sorry to bother you but, I wanted to see if you could sign me launcher? I don't have any paper on me..." Junkrat requested. He pulls out the weapon from a mid-sized bag that he was carrying on his shoulder. The object was heavy as he carefully lowered it to Lúcio's eye level.
Lúcio's eyes fell on the weapon. "It's no problem. Um," Lúcio hurriedly scanned his body, "sorry, I know I was carrying a green marker somewhere.." Finally, the last pocket he reached into contained the said marker.
He held on to the base of the Junker's weapon, while his other hand signed a small 'Lúcio' with a smiling frog next to it.
"Thanks, mate. I remember seeing you do your first charity concert on TV, had me real inspired!" Junkrat claimed, putting the handheld back in his bag.
"Wow, really? It's been a long time since then." Lúcio slightly blushed knowing that he inspired someone from the other side of the world. He made eye contact with the Junker. "Hey, I don't think I caught your name?"
Junkrat's eyes widened at this. All this talk and he hasn't even introduced himself? What manners..
"Oh! I go by Junkrat! Well, er.. you probably know that already... me real name's Jamison." The rat awkwardly rubbed the back of his neck, jittering from the realization.
Lúcio smiled. A very tame and fancy name for such a high-energy individual. He thought it was unique.
Before the latter could respond, loud horns had blown, indicating that all passengers make their way to the ship.
The tall man waved goodbye to the DJ, going back to meet with Roadhog, "Why are you messing with him?" The big man huffed in a blank tone. Junkrat twisted his head to look at him. "A- Am not! I swear! Just getting acquainted, unlike you."
They both made their way to the ship, getting ready for the trip ahead.
--
Thankfully, there were no problems. Cole halfway through was getting cold feet, afraid that he had let his guard down having known criminals on board. Yet to his surprise, the only thing he had to worry about was the aftermath of some verbal fights. If they didn't agree on anything, why are they even a team?
Other than that, the two behaved fairly well. All they need is a bit of a shape-up.
The Junkers were stared at when getting a tour of Watchpoint Gibraltar, the gaze giving Junkrat a hint of anxiety. Roadhog continued walking, unbothered.
Afterward, they briefly got introduced to their rooms, both blank and empty aside from a bed, drawers, and a bathroom. The rat inspected the covers, taking in the softness. "Hmm.. never thought beds could be this comfortable..." He softly muttered to himself.
"Really? How were they any different back home?" A curious voice boomed from the room's entrance. Jamison turned his head around quickly. It was Lúcio, leaning on the door frame with his arms crossed. He was wearing an oversized hoodie, along with some sweatpants and short, green socks.
"Oh, er.." Junkrat stammered, "they were just a bit hard, that's all." He looked away, putting down his bag and placing his luggage on the floor. "Your skate, did'ya ever end up fixing it?" Junkrat continued the conversation.
Lúcio looked down at his feet, "Yeah, turns out a compartment was loose. Had me real stumped on the flight, I almost had to ask for help." Lúcio watched as Junkrat fiddled with his weapon, flapping the tip of it. "And that? Did you make that yourself?" He asked the taller man.
Junkrat's eyes beamed at the question, "Why, yes! Made it meself in my rebellion years." He stepped closer to Lúcio, letting the DJ inspect it in all its glory.
Lúcio gazed at the object and the mechanics of it, delicately touching the rough ridges on it. Seeing how it was made purely from scrap, it was hard to undermine the Junker's intelligence.
Before he went to reach for the grenade clip that was inside the weapon, Lúcio's hand was suddenly grabbed by Jamison.
"Sorry mate," He said, smiling down at the confused man. "Veeery delicate, it would be a shame if you got hurt." Lúcio blushed, awkwardly emitting a small chuckle. He couldn't help but stare at him, amber eyes meeting with grayish-brown ones.
"Am I interrupting something?" A muffled deep voice was heard behind them.
"Uh, er- No! Just talking... whaddya want?" Junkrat answered quickly, taking his weapon from Lúcio's hands and storing it. "Meeting. We're being tested." Roadhog grunted as he went back to wherever he previously was. Lúcio's eyes widened, "Oh shoot! I forgot I was supposed to get ready for that." He said as he followed the hog's footsteps, before coming right back and waving, "Bye, Jamie."
Junkrat smiled, waving back and seeing the man's baggy clothing leave his sight. Now about that meeting...
--
It's been a week since Junkrat and Roadhog's arrival at the watchpoint. Roadhog started actively socializing on his 4th day, and sure– it was a small thank you, but everyone started somewhere.
Junkrat's trials of making friends were off to a rough start, but so far he's met people who actually tolerate him. From what he can remember: Echo, for her fascination with learning new things. Reinhardt, from their similar high-energy personalities. And of course, Lúcio, who he started to learn more about from their interactions.
Lúcio told him about how he was from Brazil and that he used to live in a favela with his family. His dad worked for Vishkar but was cut off from the company after some moral disputes. With blueprints stuck behind a thick greedy jail cell, Lúcio made it his mission to retrieve his father's technology. "That's how I made my skates. Oh, and this."
Lúcio pulled his weapon out, putting it in Junkrat's hands.
They were currently in the DJ's room, sitting on the edge of his bed. At first, it was just Junkrat returning something Lúcio had given him, but after the small talk turned into a 30-minute conversation, Lúcio felt inclined to invite the Junker in.
Jamison looked at the weapon in his hands, "Oh yeah, hefty piece of work you did here. Did they ever hunt you down after that act?" The rat questioned, turning the sound amplifier to look at the more intricate designs.
Lúcio pondered, "Oh, uh, not really, now that I think about it."
Junkrat looked at the man, "That don't seem a tad bit suspicious to you?" Lúcio was stumped at the response. Yeah, he went in and out of the company building and didn't leave a trace. Yet, now looking at the situation further.. no big-time CEO would let precious plans get taken so easily. His shoulder then got grabbed, which knocked him out of his daze.
"I'm sorry if I made ya worry, just noticing the fact they never let me go so easily." Junkrat tried his best to calm his friend's nerves, feeling bad about having the poor man overthink, "and you're in Overwatch now, they'd be a right dipstick if they try to mess with them. Well– I mean us."
Lúcio smiled at the correction. Jamie was right. If Vishkar were to ever forward an attack, he's prepared and properly trained to fight back too.
"Hey, I appreciate it. Thanks." Lúcio thanked him as he was given his weapon back. "Uh.. is it okay if I asked about your prosthetics? What happened?"
Junkrat scratched the back of his neck nervously, "Ah, well, me leg was blown off by me. My mistake in all honesty," he propped his leg up, "and the arm, er.. just what happens whenever you challenge a crazy bloke to a fight."
Lúcio cringed at the last sentence. "Sorry to hear that."
The Junker chuckled, "Nah it's fine! I look cool anyway."
They continued conversing for hours, sitting there, basking in Lúcio's music playing from whatever speaker there was. Junkrat looked around, noticing all the small details. Albums he released, posters of himself, a framed photo of a family, Lúcio's, he assumes. "How.. was it? Your first day here?" He asks Lúcio, the DJ opening his eyes from a meditating state. "It was," Lúcio sighed, "exciting. I was definitely nervous." He began to lay down, relaxing his posture as his back touched the cloudy covers of his bed. "It was after that attack in my hometown, the Null Sector one. Overwatch accepted me after the mission. I would be lying if I said I wasn't giggling that night like a fanboy." Lúcio smiled, seeing that Jamie had also begun to lay down, but on his side with his head relaxing on his propped-up prosthetic arm.
"You don't have to lie for me." Junkrat said. The hushed voice making Lúcio's ears feel warmer. "Why, are you a human lie detector?" He playfully asked, smiling at the man next to him. "Well, I do have a gift for finding out the truth about things. Tell me a lie right now." Jamie demanded, waiting for the DJ's response.
"I..... I don't have a favorite color." Lúcio outed.
The junker looked down snickering, then busted laughing after the sentence. "Oh really? What's all this then?" He pointed to every inch of the room, all having a green color scheme to them.
Lúcio chuckled, "What? Oh come on, it's just a signature color, frogs are green!" He tried his best to explain, but Junkrat already knew. "Go on, give me something else."
Lúcio looked up at the Junker, his kind eyes showering him with curiosity. "Uh.. okay, here's one. I sort of.. kind of.. thought you were scary, at first." Then, his eyes quickly turned into confusion.
"Scary? Wha..– I look scary to you?" Junkrat sat up from his position, causing Lúcio to do the same. "I'm sorry! It was just an assumption at first, you're really tall, okay?" Lúcio frowned, feeling bad about hurting Jamie's feelings. He reached his hand out, touching his shoulder.
"That's why I've been having a hard time here? 'Cause I'm scary?" The junker looked down, staring at the limp hands on his lap. "I'm sorry, Jamie. If I knew you were struggling, I would've helped. I still can, if you want." Lúcio rubbed his shoulder gently, trying to make eye contact with the man. Junkrat broke the stare and looked at the DJ. He smiled, putting his hand on the one that was settled on his shoulder.
"Thank you, mate, really."
--
"..and this is my friend, Hana." Lúcio greeted Junkrat, meeting with the gamer girl in her natural habitat: her room.
For the past few days, Lúcio made it his mission to help Jamie get acquainted with everyone. It was hard, with everyone being busy, but he left the best for last.
"Hi there!!!!!" Hana spun in her chair, looking away from her computer screen to see the duo walk in. "Remember when I told you about Jamison?" Lúcio walked behind Jamie, presenting him like he was some trophy. The Australian set his eyes on the unique room, 'D.va' being plastered almost everywhere. It was like Lúcio's, except if it was pink instead.
"Tall, crazy, skinny guy that likes to take my energy drinks from the fridge? Maybe you brought him up a couple of times." Hana teased. Junkrat sunk his head a bit, embarrassed about being caught, even though he wasn't trying his best to hide it.
"Yeah, that's him. I'm showing him around so he gets to know everyone a little bit better." Lúcio chuckled, nudging Jamie towards Hana so they could shake hands. The tall man awkwardly stumbled towards the girl, shaking her sweaty hands, from the video games, he presumed. She wore her mid-length hair loose, with a headset that sat comfortably on her head. Hana smiled, letting go of the interaction. "Just call me Jamie. No need for professionalism!" Junkrat exclaimed.
"Alright, Jamie... how's it going so far with the intros?" Hana asked, looking up at the Australian. "Oh you know, nothing much... just trying not to make a fool out of meself. Lúcio has been helping me as best as he can. But uh... if we're being honest.." Jamie signaled Hana to come close to him, his lips near her ears.
Lúcio watched with a poker face, staring at the two. A hushed voice was heard, then Hana snickering after. "Wow Lúcio, he's funny. What's the deal?" Hana broke from her and Jamie's close interaction, giving Lúcio her weird telepathic glancing eyes.
"Huh? Deal?" Lúcio blushed. What did they say about him?
Then a sudden ring came from the girl's monitor, displaying 'Dae-hyun is calling'.
Hana looked at the screen, then back at the duo, "Oh. Oops, sorry guys. I have to take this, we can talk later. Okay?" She said, going back to answer the call.
Jamison walked back towards the DJ, both of them leaving the room.
"Well, what was that about?" Lúcio asked the Junker with a concerned tone. "What was what about?" Junkrat replied, with a goofy smile plastered on his face. "The weird whispering. What did you tell her?"
Lúcio's face and voice set the taller man on alert, now worried he was making him uncomfortable.
"Oh, uh, nothing! I was telling her how from your face, I could tell you got nervous doing the introductions too. Another great superpower of mine." Jamie winked at that last sentence, his soft eyes reassuring the shorter man.
"Oh." Lúcio's worries settled down. "How'd you know?"
The duo walked towards the training room. Zarya, Mei, and Brigitte were seen all busy with their routines.
"It was a hunch. Your face is very expressive." Junkrat settled on a bench, watching Lúcio put on his gear.
Every day since the introductions began, Lúcio and Junkrat would head towards the training room to work out, practice team synergies, or continue the intros to whoever was in the room with them. Now finished with everyone though, Lúcio thought it'd be a good idea to practice game plans. The ones where he would have to work with the Australian, in particular.
"Alright, let's get started. Here, we can do this one." Lúcio showed Jamie a tablet, the screen displaying a top-down view angle of a room.
The junker focused his attention on the holographic screen, then nodded at the DJ.
They both walked to a bigger compartment of the training room, walking towards a kiosk that hugged the left side of the wall.
Junkrat looked around. He didn't even know this place was big enough to hold this kind of training range.
A booming voice could be heard.
"Simulating: Ilios Ruins."
Lúcio looked back at the junker, "C'mon let's get in position."
The plan was to get to the other side of the room, fully unscathed and in under a minute. At least that's what Junkrat could make out, his attention getting driven away while Lúcio was explaining it.
The previous empty room was now riddled with walls, columns, and secluded rooms that were projected with light technology. The two stood before it. Lúcio stretched while Jamie placed a mine under him. "Is that.. safe?" The DJ stared at the Junker getting into position. He stared back, smiling, "Don't worry your pretty lil' head about it. I've got me ways."
Lúcio smiled, shaking it off. A timer started to count down.
"3,"
The pair got in their positions.
"2,"
Junkrat fiddled with his detonator. Lúcio clutched and unclutched his hand, getting impatient.
...
"1."
And they were off.
Junkrat flew into the air, detonating bombs in the meanwhile, elongating his air time.
Lúcio sped himself, riding on nearby walls, the momentum making him faster.
They eventually ended up meeting in the same spot. They had their backs to each other and started gunning down nearby enemy robots. Lúcio's sound amplifier killing those that would stand still, or walk in a straight line towards him. If they got too close, he would fire the weapon's soundwave, sending them backward to gain space.
Junkrat was busy launching his grenades into the enemy bots, causing them to jump around. The grenades ricochet, so sometimes he wouldn't get an exact hit. Junkrat didn't mind, as long as the target was downed, and he always detonated an extra mine just in case.
Suddenly, a realization hit. There was a crowd forming around them. The bots were grouping up, and the duo was going to be overwhelmed by the quantity.
"Jamie, we have to go." Lúcio looked to his side, worry in his voice.
The junker was also stumped, and he hated seeing the frog stressed.
Then, an idea popped into mind.
Junkrat placed a mine under him, and clutched Lúcio closely.
"C'mon, only way is up!" He gleefully said. Lúcio was too stunned to react, his body being held tightly by Jamie's lean arm.
"Wait, huh?!" Lúcio yelled before a big BOOM went off.
There was silence, then after a while, Lúcio's hearing was slowly coming back.
He could hear high-pitched giggling. Opening his eyes, he saw the Junker smiling, hair blowing in the wind.
..wait, wind?
Lúcio's realization hit him like a rock. They were in the air, and they were doing the exact same trick Jamie likes to do. He looked down as the ground came closer and closer.
They both hit the floor and rolled in synchronization, disbanding once they heard a loud ding.
"We did it? We did it! WE DID IT!!!!!!!" Junkrat screamed in excitement. He leaped up from the ground with his arms in the air.
Lúcio caught his breath, still crouching low to the ground. "Heh.. yeah! I guess we did!" He stood up, legs feeling wobbly after the impact. He looked to the Junker, who was doing a cute little happy dance.
"We should go and look at the log and see if we beat our previous time, maybe it— oh no! Jamie!"
Lúcio walked towards Junkrat, who stopped dead in his tracks when he felt padded fingers hold his face gently. The junker hunched forward so that Lúcio was able to see him face to face.
"Your nose.. it's bleeding." The shorter man said in a worried tone.
Junkrat held his hand up to his face, touching the bottom middle region of his face. Lúcio was right, he was bleeding.
"Ugh.. no... maybe I accidentally hit you? This sucks, you okay?" Lúcio swiped his hand in the air horizontally, his glowing green locs turning yellow, along with his skates. Jamie felt a sense of ease hearing the soft electronic music.
"Naw mate it's not your fault, I get these all the time. I'll be fine." The junker said, trying to reassure the DJ.
Lúcio fetched into his pocket, taking out a small napkin. He went on to wipe away the taller man's blood, leaving only a small stain that had already dried under his nose. "Well," He backed away, "let's get you to Dr. Ziegler, just in case."
Junkrat nodded as they both made their way across the training room, the light structures having already disappeared.
They both waved goodbye to the girls who were still working out and walked towards the medic's office.
The door was propped open, white light seeping out from the room.
The duo walked inside and was greeted by a tall woman in a comfortable wool coat, her blonde hair tied in a messy ponytail. She set her eyes on the DJ, "Lúcio?"
Lúcio smiled.
The doctor then took a glance at the man next to him, "Ah, and your friend, Jamison, was it?" She stood from behind her desk, grabbing her clipboard and adjusting her glasses. The junker sheepishly smiled at the woman, nervous about the current situation. He always did get anxious at doctor appointments.
"What seems to be the problem?" Dr. Ziegler asked, pen ready in her hand.
Lúcio explained to her what had just occurred. Then, Jamison was asked to sit on the examination table.
While he sat, he was ordered to tilt his head back and stay still. A flashlight shun brightly at his nostrils.
"Hmm.." The doctor hummed, making the junker more nervous by the second.
After a few moments, Jamie was told to relax.
Dr. Ziegler started to write on the clipboard, "Well, good thing it was only a small nosebleed. Nothing to be stressed about."
Junkrat looked to the side where Lúcio was standing, "Told ya." He whispered. Lúcio rolled his eyes and smiled.
"You have a very sensitive nose bridge, Jamison. My theory is that you inhaled too hard when going that high of an altitude. Be careful next time, okay?"
Junkrat nodded, "That's good to know miss," He hopped off the table, "Can't wait to see ya again next week!" The junker joked as he made his way out of the room.
Lúcio faced the doctor, "Thank you, Angela. Uh, black roast coffee next time I come here?"
She chuckled, shaking her head a little. "I would be thankful for that. Have a good day, Lúcio." Angela waved goodbye as she saw him skate away.
Lúcio caught up to Jamie in the hallway, matching his speed as he walked.
"Hey, you know what this means, right?"
The junker looked down at him, raising an eyebrow.
"The challenge. We did it! Technically.. you didn't get hurt." Lúcio explained.
The gears turned in Jamison's head. His lips curled into a smile. "Ohhhhh, you're right!" He snapped his fingers. "Maybe we oughta beat it next time then, ay? A minute and twelve seconds are rookie numbers."
The DJ chuckled at the Junker's dedication. "Sure, let's do it better and faster next time."
--
The nights at Gibraltar were getting colder and colder as the winter season was coming in. The winds hadn't helped either.
Lúcio sat on his bed, messing around on his laptop watching movies and such. Then, a knock sounded at his door. He checked his phone screen, and he thought to himself, who's knocking at one in the morning?
He wasn't sure how to respond, the coziness of his bed tying him down and preventing the small man from answering the door. Lúcio shouted, "Yeah? It's unlocked."
The door made a small squeal as it was slowly opened, a tall and lanky Junkrat appearing behind it.
Lúcio looked at him quizzically, "Jamie? It's late, what's up?"
The junker had opened the door with his back, a clothed one. He was wearing a grey sweater with what appeared like some sweatpants.
Jamie slowly turned around after entering, the door closing with the slightest tap. In his arms were some candy, sugary drinks, and chips.
"Sorry. I, er... thought a sleepover would be fun. It gets a tad boring when you're making the same bomb over and over again." He said.
Lúcio chuckled at the explanation. "It's fine. I'm not doing much either." He studied the man that stood in his room, seeing his body tremble. "Come sit right here, I'll put something up that we can watch," Lúcio said as he tapped the space next to him on the bed. Junkrat smiled and made his way over, dropping the snacks in the center of it.
"I didn't know what you liked, so... I snagged all of 'em!" Jamie exclaimed, getting under the warm covers. Lúcio smiled, "Nah, don't worry, I'll eat anything." Lúcio said, reassuring the junker. "Was it cold outside? It feels weird not seeing your bare chest." He asked.
Junkrat shuddered, "Ya bet it was. Here, feel my hands." He quickly grabbed Lúcio's arms, a small yelp coming out of him.
"Ah! Jeez, start warming up okay? Don't want you freezing me while we eat chips from the same bag." They both laughed, getting comfortable as Lúcio clicked whatever was on his screen.
The movie played, and 30 minutes in, they were both bored out of their minds.
Lúcio tried to keep his attention on the characters and the story, but he seriously could not stop moving and messing with his hands. Junkrat was about the same, except he started pointing out every little thing that happened out loud. He either disrupted it by saying a fun fact or tried to guess what would happen next.
The snacks did help a little, but they were still the same, just full.
"–and you know what.. I think this lady.. IS the evil one! What do you think Lú?" Jamie pointed at the screen before turning his head towards the DJ, who was hyper-focused on his hands. There was silence until Lúcio had noticed. "Huh? Sorry, I wasn't paying attention. I think I'm forming some calluses."
The junker sat up, cleaning his hands from crumbs. "Is the movie not good? Is it me? You can duct tape my mouth if that helps."
Lúcio giggled, "No, no, you're fine." He yawned, letting his eyes rest as his head went deeper and deeper into his pillow.
Junkrat studied the small man, noticing how calm he looked. His hair was loose, his cheeks were relaxed yet still had structure, and his chest rose and fell slowly, like he savored his breaths.
"Well, suppose we call it quits then, eh?" The junker said as he stood up, cleaning the mess they had made on the bed, and placing the DJ's laptop on a desk somewhere. He then adjusted the blanket so it covered Lúcio up to his neck, "G'night, I'll see you tomorrow." Afterward, footsteps were heard fading away.
Lúcio opened his eyes quickly, "Wait wait wait, you're not staying the night? That's like, defeating the whole purpose of a sleepover."
The junker had already made his way to open the bedroom door before turning around at the man's voice. He looked at him, puzzled.
"I felt that... maybe... you'd want some space."
Silence fell as the duo stared at each other confusingly.
...
Lúcio broke it with a laugh.
"Jamie, man, get serious. I want you to stay the night. It's too cold for you to leave now. Plus, it'd be nice to cuddle."
The junker blushed hearing this, the heat warming his previously chilled face.
He started to walk forward, his foot and peg feeling lighter now.
"Well, why didn't you say so in the first place?" Jamie smiled as he climbed back onto the bed again, covering himself with the same blanket as Lúcio's.
After the junker laid down, he opened his arm to have Lúcio get closer to him, which he gladly accepted.
Lúcio fit the side of Jamie like a puzzle piece, head resting on his chest, arms wrapping around torsos and hips connecting like magnets. It was nice until Lúcio remembered something, "Hey, do you take those off before bed?" He asked. The tall man raised a brow at him. Lúcio then proceeded to lift Jamie's arm from behind, showing off the prosthetic limb.
"Ohhh. Hm.. yeah sometimes. Only really do it if I'm in a secure place." The junker answered.
Lúcio hummed, understanding the reasons. "Do you feel secure now, though?"
He continued, "Uh, just because I don't want you going to sleep knowing you're uncomfortable."
Junkrat thought about it. He remembered moments where he wrongfully thought he was safe, then got ambushed, which resulted in a scene where he was being carried by a running Roadhog. The thrill was fun, but he wouldn't wanna risk going through that again for his bodyguard's sake.
And then he looked around. The posters, the turn tables, the framed photographs, Lúcio. He didn't feel a sense of danger at all. The man next to him wouldn't even hurt a fly. Well.. maybe training bots. Nevertheless, he felt calm.
Junkrat smiled, "Secure as I ever will be."
He proceeded to unlatch his prosthetic arm, his fleshy nub now exposed. A faint long scar could be seen running under it.
After he placed the arm on the floor, he continued to his mechanical peg leg.
"Hold on, this one takes a while." Jamie had reassured Lúcio, who chuckled after the fact.
After a few pulls, it was off, joining the arm on the ground.
The junker sighed in relief, realizing he'd been having them on for a while, probably ever since he arrived in Gibraltar.
"You feeling better now?" The DJ asked, studying the Australian's new form. Junkrat smiled, laying down again, except this time lighter and carelessly. "Yeah... thank you."
Lúcio chuckled, confusingly. "Why are you thanking me?"
"You always know what to say. You don't talk down to people. You put away your fears to give me an autograph, a bloke that's taller than you and holding explosives." Junkrat was then interrupted by Lúcio, "Oh.. ugh. Sorry, I still feel bad about that."
"And see!! That! That right there! You know your faults. That's what I like about you." The junker faced the DJ, who at this point was looking flustered.
Lúcio felt so weird, as if he got read like a book. Hearing those words... they warmed him.
"Hey, you're not so bad yourself. You adjusted quickly to this whole thing. That's something that took me a while because I was so scared of embarrassing myself in my first few days." He said, getting more comfortable, twisting his body to face Junkrat.
The junker noticed this and started to replicate the same movement.
"You brighten up a room when you walk in, you have your jokes and you're polite. You always ask how someone's doing, and you try your best to cheer them up with snacks. You even came here to bring me some without even asking." They both chuckled after that last sentence.
Jamie scooted closer to Lúcio's face, "Well, you know what they say.. food is the fastest way to winning someone's heart."
Lúcio giggled, "and how is that going?"
Jamie hummed, tilting his head. "Hm.. I don't know. Reckon I should ask the source himself.."
The pair's eyes were dazed, half lidded and heavy from how late it was. They stared at each other, body movements and words leading to something they both craved.
Lúcio spoke first, "Do you.. do you want this?"
The junker almost burst out laughing after hearing the sentence.
"Well, I certainly don't want it to stop here." He smirked, leading the smaller man's hands to his neck.
Lúcio smiled, leaning in, noses barely grazing each other.
The DJ took a breath in before closing his eyes, his lips connecting with the other.
Junkrat relaxed into it, his body feeling like liquid after the first smooch. After they departed, their heartbeats were all one could hear.
"How was that?" Lúcio asked.
Jamie hummed, "more.. I want another one."
Lúcio chuckled, recollecting himself to try again. "Alright, only one since we're both obviously tired."
The 2nd kiss came in, more love-driven and passionate than the last one. Lúcio felt a grip on his waist, then small, soothing circles being rubbed in the same spot afterward.
Junkrat couldn't keep himself together. He was practically unwinding, his actions being driven by wants. He could feel the DJ's thumb fidget with his cheek, like small, gentle pets.
The duo eventually had to stop, oxygen being needed at such a bad but desperate time.
"You have some facial hair coming in," Lúcio stated, leaning his body to fit against Junkrat's.
"Impossible. The radiation doesn't allow that." The junker dismissed, making sure Lúcio was comfortable. The DJ set his head on Jamie's chest.
"Have you been taking the meds that Angela prescribed you? Maybe that's why." Lúcio questioned as he finally closed his eyes, almost feeling the warmth of sleep before Jamie opened his mouth.
"Ohh.. maybe." Junkrat noticed the smaller man's state, "Good night, Lú. Love ya." He placed a kiss on his forehead, closing his eyes soon after.
Lúcio smiled after the interaction, his hug deepening.
"Love you too, Jamie."
