Blossoming Flower

Summary:

The silence of the night was overwhelming for Mingyu, as the ferris wheel steadied at its peak. All he could feel was the hammering of his heart caged against his ribs. He felt his cheeks warm up, watching as the moonlight flickered across Wonwoo's face; breathing focus on his delicate features. The parting of his wine-red lips, the fluttering of his eyes, the creases around them, the chilled blush on each cheek; each small flicker of light causing Mingyu to become devoured by his enchanting spell.

In the dimness of the carriage … in the cloudy mind of a sixteen-year-old … something untitled, yet so painfully beautiful bloomed.

SUMMARY
Holding hands with Wonwoo ignites a gay panic in Mingyu

Notes:

I suck at writing, but I had a plot, a lot of time, so here we are :)

Work Text:

The silence of the night was overwhelming for Mingyu, as the ferris wheel steadied at its peak. All he could feel was the hammering of his heart caged against his ribs. He felt his cheeks warm up, watching as the moonlight flickered across Wonwoo's face; breathing focus on his delicate features. The parting of his wine-red lips, the fluttering of his eyes, the creases around them, the chilled blush on each cheek; each small flicker of light causing Mingyu to become devoured by his enchanting spell.

As the carriage rocked back and forth, the sides creaked dangerously louder like old, abandoned, wooden floorboards.

"That's not concerning, at all", Wonwoo gently chuckled; his soft, airy laugh consuming Mingyu's senses. He found himself naturally parting his lips and laughing along with him; his gaze never leaving from Wonwoo's features.

A desire to casually graze his fingers along the sides of his face and tuck in the loose strands of hair hovering over his eyes... Perhaps even leave his hands over his cheek? A small touch over his skin, to feel what they feel like. To know more, to feel more. A sudden, overflowing desire … The possibility of something else.

Whilst still metres above the amusement park, a chilling breeze flew in through the opening of the carriage. Mingyu shivered, and his fingers trembled, causing him to break his gaze on Wonwoo. His shoulders shifted uncomfortably as he rubbed his palms against each other for warmth.

Wonwoo gently enclosed his hands over Mingyu's exposed skin. Mingyu clung onto him, using Wonwoo's gloves to desperately warm his fingers, and perhaps also his already beating heart. Wonwoo gave a gentle smile

"Better?... If you want, I can take these off and give them to you?"

Mingyu gently shook his head, the warmth spreading from his cheeks and nose, to under his eyes. He intertwined his fingers with Wonwoo's pressing their palms closer and closer together. Somehow he preferred this.

In the dimness of the carriage … in the cloudy mind of a sixteen-year-old … something untitled, yet so painfully beautiful bloomed.

As much as Mingyu loves his other friends, he groaned as soon as he met up with them once the ferris wheel ride was over. He internally mourned the loss of Wonwoo's closeness - something he had never experienced before with Wonwoo's tendency to keep physical touch to a minimum. He listened as his friends recounted the intense stomach pain-inducing jokes that were told in the carriage that the three of them had ridden in. Mingyu also found himself chuckling at a couple of them. But his heart was unsteady as if it were being tugged, and stretched in every direction, whilst also being squeezed into a tiny cage, overflowing and nowhere to go.

Mingyu felt a gentle nudge against his arm and his body naturally turned, finding himself up pressed against Wonwoo. His fingers reached for Mingyu's, trapping his bare fingers in a delicate hold. The cage collapsed, and his heart exploded into tiny pieces of coloured paper.

Was he always this pretty?

"You're still cold", he whispered gently, stuffing the cusps of his hands with the gloves.

Did he always have such a pretty voice?

Wonwoo released his grip and began walking away, and Mingyu released a breath he was unknowingly holding.

* * *

Mingyu didn't realise that his eyes naturally drifted over to the other throughout the rest of the evening. Deliriously intoxicated by Wonwoo, he didn't realise how his camera would constantly shift towards the other, in an attempt to perfectly preserve the night - of him, and all these untitled feelings.

That night, Mingyu laid down on his bed and held dearly onto Wonwoo's gloves - his heartbeat refusing to steady, and his stupid smile never leaving.

What he didn't realise was how this bubbling overflowing feeling would never steady. Rather, it would beautifully blossom over the coming years, creating core memories of friendship, love, lies, heartbreak, and finally the bittersweetness of a falling flower.

Notes:

aaaannnnnnddddd thats a wrap!

Is this a happy ending? No clue. More like the beginning of a first love that will inevitably go through its ups and downs. Whether it was reciprocated, or tragic is totally up to interpretation :)
