Work Text:
The hall sparkled with light. The girl with whom he had shared the first dance sat beside him, smiling coyly. He couldn’t even remember her name. His gaze, however, was fixed on one pair dancing across the floor—Cedric, with a blushing Cho in his arms. He had to act. He knew this was his last chance; if he didn’t move now, he’d lose it forever. He’d lose everything. Resolute, he stood and made his way toward them, trying to compose himself and adopt the most mature expression he could muster.
When he reached them, he smiled and bowed with dignity.
"May I cut in?"
He asked. The girl flushed and exchanged a brief glance with her partner, who gave a small, approving nod. She agreed, disentangling herself from Cedric’s arms. He smiled gratefully at her, bowed slightly in her direction, and then whisked Cedric away onto the dance floor.
The Hufflepuff laughed brightly, allowing himself to be led to the center of the hall.
"I should have expected this, you cunning Gryffindor... No, my cunning Snake..."
He whispered in Cedric’s ear. His cheeks flushed lightly, but he didn’t miss a step. He was proud of himself. He had managed to steal his beloved away, if only for this one dance.
