Work Text:

Izuku, Katsuki is now fully convinced, is the biggest fucking idiot alive.

“Kacchan, you’ve been acting so strange recently, are you okay?”

Katsuki stares at him from over his water bottle, tilting it up even more in defiance. They’re patrolling together today—something that somehow still makes Katsuki’s stomach twist with butterflies, as if he’s a fucking schoolboy with a crush. Ugh. He takes another big sip, maintaining eye contact, watching the way Izuku’s dumb eyebrows furrow into an even dumber, cuter frown.

“You seriously don’t know?” he asks when he’s finished his dramatically long sip, clicking his water bottle shut.

Izuku only frowns at him. “So, you admit you are acting strange? What is it, Kacchan? I didn’t do something to upset you, right?”

Katsuki just looks at him. Looks at his stupid cute face and his annoying expression he makes when he’s thinking hard about something—not at all adorable—and he sighs.

“It’s time, don’t you think?” Katsuki says. He knows it sounds a bit vague, but it shouldn’t. Izuku should just know.

“Uhm.” Izuku pauses, idly playing with a stray curl, and Katsuki fights the urge to tuck it back himself. Izuku’s started clipping his hair back on patrol nowadays. Ever since he embarrassingly collided into a building because his ridiculous hair was blocking his sight. “I reallyyyy don’t know what you’re talking about right now, sorry, Kacchan.”

Scowling, Katsuki crosses his arms and just nods towards the edge of the roof. “You ready to go back? We’re done with lunch, right?”

“Kacchan…?”

Katsuki is quick to leave after that, his body and face feeling overheated and uncomfortable. He’s so ridiculous. This is so ridiculous.

Katsuki is the biggest fucking idiot alive.

One month ago, Katsuki decided he wanted a kid.

It’s obviously something he’s talked about with Izuku, even before they truly started dating. Offhand comments about their futures, what they think it’d look like, all that classic business.

When they did finally get together, they talked about it again. Serious, real talk disguised as casual and covered with small fond laughs. They had been a bit tipsy when discussing it, something Katsuki isn’t usually, but they had finally opened their own agency, and it was such a celebration that they all but melted into each other that night.

“I’d like it, Kacchan, one day, if you want. But I’m okay, too, if you don’t. I just want to be with you.” Izuku had kissed him then, slow and messy, and Katsuki’s heart had been so loud in his ears when Izuku nipped at his lower lip and added a soft, “Forever, right? I just want you.”

They haven’t talked about it since. Nor have they even truly thought about it. They’ve been busy, so busy finally settling into their lives together as husbands and Pro Heroes. Izuku finally ditched the teaching gig a couple of years ago, under the condition—because of fucking course Izuku had conditions—that they’d take on interns. Katsuki had bitched about it for months at the beginning, but when Izuku finally started to concede, musing that maybe they’d be better suited not taking them on anymore, Katsuki had bitched even more and grunted out a petulant, If we don’t take these losers on then who else will?

Izuku’s answering grin had (pathetically for Katsuki) made it even more worth it.

Now, Katsuki is thirty-four years old, and one month ago, he had been watching as Izuku, bent down with a handsome smile on his face, talked eagerly to one of his fans. What they were talking about, Katsuki doesn’t know, considering how he had been much too busy immediately realizing that he wanted to have a child with said stupid, horrible, dumb nerd.

When Izuku had finished chatting with the kid, standing up straight and letting out a pleased little sigh, Katsuki’s stomach had dropped even further because Oh fuck, I actually want to raise a kid with Izuku.

“Kacchan?” Izuku had asked, tilting his head a bit as he studied Katsuki, who had gone a very bright shade of red. “Are you okay? You look, uh, kind of ill suddenly?”

Katsuki had swallowed, heart racing, and he felt ill, too, knowing just how much he loved this man. Katsuki had loved him for so long already, but, shit, sometimes it was just too much. Knowing that. Knowing how far he’d go for him, how much he wanted his own life to include him in it.

Because a child together is… Katsuki swallowed.

“Shut up, I’m fine, let’s go before you’re accosted by another super geek.”

“Kacchan, she wasn’t a geek!”

“If she’s a fan of you, she is.”

Kacchan barely remembers the rest of that patrol, but he remembers that night, the way he went to bed early, blood rushing in his head as he lay in bed willing himself to go to sleep instead of thinking of every single way that he could possibly ask Izuku to have a kid with him at the height of their careers.

He remembers thinking that he had time to figure it out, that Izuku would probably be open to the idea, pleased even. He even reasoned he’d get it done in the next week or two.

Admittedly, Katsuki hasn’t been very successful in that regard.

To be fair, he did bring it up about a week after the Realization. Though, to be even more fair, he hadn’t done a great job at it.

“So,” he had started. “Remember that night we got confirmation of our agency?”

Izuku blinked at him, slow and sleepy. Katsuki had decided that springing this on him in the morning was the best tactic—before he could talk himself out of it.

“Of course I do, Kacchan,” Izuku said a breath later, a fond smile playing at his lips. Katsuki swallowed.

“So, you remember what we talked about?”

Izuku tilted his head, just a bit. “Yeah? We talked about our futures together. It’s the night I decided to propose to you.”

And—what?

“Wait, seriously?”

Izuku nodded.

“I didn’t know that.”

Izuku, who had gone a bright red now, let his lips quirk up finally, his smile taking Katsuki’s breath away, like it always did. “Really? I thought it was so obvious considering I proposed to you literally just two weeks later.”

“Huh.” Katsuki supposed he was right. That all had happened around the same time. At the time, it didn’t seem odd or sudden. It simply made sense, for them to intertwine their lives together even more than they were with their agency.

“So, what were you going to say?” Izuku asked then before letting out a big yawn. Katsuki yawned in reflex, frowning as he remembered he was supposed to be the one springing new information onto Izuku.

“Well, you know what else we talked about that night, right?” Katsuki paused before he took a deep breath. “I’m ready now. For us to take that next step. Together.”

Izuku had looked baffled by this statement for some reason, and Katsuki remembers the way he was about to open his mouth to explain because it seemed the nerd had some memory issues, but then Izuku had beaten him to the punch, a furious blush marking his face.

“O-oh! You… you actually want to?”

Katsuki nodded, suddenly feeling like crying from how strung out he felt. “I want to.”

“Ah, okay! Okay, we can do it, then. I’ll have to research it, though. I want to make sure we’re ready before we truly start anything.”

And, it had been perfect, really, it had been. Katsuki had felt something within him bloom and he remembers the way he grabbed onto Izuku to bring him close, tucking his face against his neck, Izuku letting out a startled, cute gasp at the hug but relaxing into it soon enough.

“Have you been holding onto this for a while now, Kacchan?” Izuku asked then, and Katsuki had fought back tears. Izuku wanted this. He wanted this next step for them.

“Been thinking about it for a while, but I only decided a couple weeks ago,” Katsuki mumbled. “Was a bit nervous to ask, honestly, but… I know we’ve talked about it before and knew you’d be open to it.”

Izuku let out a nervous little laugh at that. “Of course I’m open to it! You know how much I love you. How much I want to make you happy.”

Katsuki had nodded, and it had all been Just Right, everything truly slotting into place. He remembers the small kiss Izuku had pressed against his hair, the way Katsuki had murmured an almost shy, “I’ll help you research, of course” against his skin.

Then, the world proved to Katsuki that he was way in over his head. Just hours later, too. The world couldn’t even give him a day to think he had succeeded.

“I found some super informational websites, Kacchan! Did you want to read about it together and discuss what you’re wanting?”

Katsuki sniffed, already settling next to him under the kotatsu, Izuku angling his computer so Katsuki could read it too, his knee bumping against Katsuki’s.

And, right there on the obnoxiously bright screen, were the words, Bondage for Beginners staring back at him.

“What the fuck, Deku,” Katsuki said. Izuku flushed.

“I know, but it’s a great site, I swear! I’ve been reading through it, and it goes over everything, all the different kinds there are, and they even provide links for us to buy certain items! I know that night you mentioned you wanted to be strung up, right?” Izuku coughed, ducking his head ever so slightly. “Although, I know you were saying a lot of things in the heat of the moment, it was a really intense night, after all….”

Katsuki had barely heard the rest of the shit he said, his brain going over every single detail from that night, and Izuku wasn’t wrong, they had had very intense sex that night, both of them drunk and overwhelmed by the agency news, and apparently Izuku had decided, too, that he was going to propose, but… but….

“Right,” Katsuki replied simply, hating the embarrassment that had begun to seep itself into his very bones. Shit, he had forgotten to remember that Izuku could be a dumbass sometimes. “Right,” he repeated. “Okay, sure. Yeah.”

Izuku had lit up like a fucking firework at the response, and, well, Katsuki didn’t mention the whole kid thing again for a bit afterwards, his embarrassment and annoyance at war within himself, but they did start having even better sex. Izuku’s nerd research did him right in that regard, at the very least.

Of course, even now, Katsuki is still reaping the rewards of the research from that day, and eventually, once he got the hell over himself, he had been able to start trying to bring up the whole “I want to have a kid with you, idiot” conversation again, but—

But the shit just kept not working out.

The second time Katsuki tried, he brought it up while cooking, Izuku leaning against their fridge as he tried to seduce Katsuki, who had been very intent on ignoring him so he could ask Izuku if he wanted to be a father with him. Unfortunately, he had underestimated just how horny Izuku had been that day, considering Izuku had simply gotten on his knees while Katsuki was in the middle of trying to stammer out the question. Katsuki even ended up burning all the fucking food that day, too.

And, the time after that, he took Izuku out on a date and everything, realizing he’d have to combat Izuku’s sex drive in order to have this Talk, but then they got into a heated conversation about which of them could defeat Godzilla the fastest, and, well, it went downhill from there. Even worse, Katsuki finally let Izuku try out the whole asphyxiation thing with him that night. It was only mildly infuriating how much they both enjoyed it.

One by one, Katsuki’s attempts all failed. “Oh, Izuku, by the way, did you want to—” only to be cut off by a villain deciding that Katsuki should be destined to pining for a child for the rest of his life. “Hey, shitnerd, so I’ve been thinking—” only to realize Izuku was leaning over and vomiting, Izuku’s idiotic child-blocking body deciding Izuku getting sick was more important than Katsuki wanting to be a father. “B-by the way, ‘zuku, we should be—” only to hear the drunk giggles from their friends who were all watching them, watching the way Katsuki had climbed onto Izuku’s lap to demand that Izuku knock him up—wait, what? Oh, Katsuki was way too fucking drunk.

At some point, Katsuki started blaming Izuku in full for this nonsense. Why hadn’t the idiot just figured it out already? Isn’t he supposed to be smart? Does Izuku lose braincells every time he gets hurt or horny? Because if that’s the case, Katsuki may as well give up all hope.

One of the truly more annoying things, though, is that Izuku has begun to catch onto the fact that something is wrong considering how bitchy Katsuki’s been recently, especially with him.

So, when he gets home tonight from patrol (Izuku had gotten off earlier since he went in before Katsuki did) to a beautifully made dinner with flowers, what the hell, Katsuki isn’t that surprised. Izuku’s clearly trying to get back into his good graces.

If only the shit-for-brains could realize why instead of going out and obviously spending an inordinate amount of time picking out flowers based on their meanings. Katsuki eyes the red tulips (passion, love) and violets (loyalty, devotion, modesty, love) with fond exasperation.

“Seriously?” Katsuki asks, shrugging off his jacket and leaning down slightly to tug at his shoes, setting them neatly beside Izuku’s.

“You’ve been acting weird! I know when you’re mad at me, Kacchan!”

Katsuki stands up straight and rolls his eyes, narrowing them when he notices Izuku walking over to him. He sniffs, Izuku stopping a few paces away, evidently not wanting to crowd him.

“Kacchan.”

Sighing, Katsuki tugs Izuku closer, sealing his lips over his, his hand coming up to cup Izuku’s jaw, Izuku meeting the energy instantly, letting Katsuki open his mouth with his own, wanting to breathe him in even more. Izuku’s hands have settled at Katsuki’s waist, but with a strength Katsuki always finds hot as hell, he pulls Katsuki closer, slotting their bodies together, Katsuki’s nerves bursting at the sensation.

“Sorry, Izuku,” Katsuki mumbles against his lips, opening his eyes as he pulls back ever so slightly. Izuku’s eyes flutter open, and Katsuki can see the relief in them. Fuck. Katsuki’s such an idiot. He bites down everything he’s been wanting to say; now isn’t the time. “It’s not your fault, Izuku. I’ve just… I’ve been in a bad mood, I guess. Just projecting shit onto you, which isn’t fair to you.” Katsuki presses another soft kiss against Izuku’s lips. They stare at each other all the while. “I’ll tell you soon, okay? It’s not anything bad, I promise. I’m just… I’m just being an idiot about it.”

When he pulls away, Katsuki can tell by the bright curiosity in his eyes that he wants to push, wants to ask more, wants to say that Katsuki should tell him now, but Izuku not only loves him, but he also respects Katsuki.

So, he doesn’t do any of that.

Instead, he nods once, lets out a small smile, and kisses Katsuki again. “Come eat, Kacchan. I know today was a long one.”

And, this is why Izuku is the man Katsuki wants to build and spend his life with. This is why Izuku is the man who holds his very heart in the palm of his hand. This is why Izuku is the man Katsuki wants to raise a child with.

Dinner that night is one of the better ones he’s had in a while.

After that night, Katsuki decides to let it go for a while, exhausted from constantly stressing over it and tired of being annoyed at his husband for simply being his oblivious idiot self. Besides, he still has loads of time to figure it out, to perfect the best strategy in bringing it up. Katsuki just needs a small break from it all. Nothing wrong with that.

The weeks pass and soon enough, it’s been another month since that dinner, making it over two months since Katsuki’s decision. It’s been a relief, honestly. He hadn’t realized how unfocused he’s been at work until one of their interns—Shizu—comments that she’s pleased he “sorted out what’s been stressing him out” before asking if there’s an even better way to incapacitate somebody. He had threatened to take her off his patrol for a few days because of the comment but she only laughed in his face. The audacity of the new generation, truly.

Izuku’s been noticeably happier too, no longer sending concerned looks Katsuki’s way, and Katsuki has to remind himself to stop feeling guilty about making his husband worry so much in the first place.

And, Katsuki’s content. He’ll try broaching the topic again in a few months, once he does more of his own research. He wants to be able to present all the information Izuku may ask him when they talk considering how Izuku will definitely jump at the idea, wanting to know everything immediately.

Yet, as always, Izuku fucks all of Katsuki’s plans up.

They’re visiting their parents when it happens. It’s in the height of winter and their parents are moving in together. Auntie’s been feeling lonely and when his hag mother found this out, she offered their home to her. After a few long conversations, a breakdown from Izuku who insisted that his mother come live with them instead (which Katsuki was more than okay with and insisted on as well), and even more long conversations where Auntie explained in detail why she didn’t want to do that, she’s officially moving in with Katsuki’s parents.

So, after taking a couple weeks off, Izuku and Katsuki dedicate all their time in helping the moving process. Izuku has to hold back on insisting that their home is still open to her, that they could even move in with her (which, Katsuki will admit they’d definitely need to talk about that), that it’s his duty to take care of her as his son because it’ll only lead them back to the same long-drawn out disagreements where Auntie demands that he let himself enjoy his life with Katsuki, that as long as he visits often, she’ll be fine, that Mitsuki and Masaru are perfectly capable of being there for her.

A week and two days into the vacation, one of Katsuki’s parents’ old neighbors stops by to greet Auntie and fawn over how big Katsuki is now, wow just look at him, he’s so handsome, and he’s a Pro Hero now, huh?

And, in her arms, is a baby. Her new granddaughter, in fact, which his mother basically shoves him over to get to, cooing over the baby—Yua—before placing her in Katsuki’s arms so she can hug her friend, showing her inside to introduce her properly to Inko.

“Ugh,” Katsuki mutters, looking down at Yua, who gurgles uselessly up at him. He gives her an understanding nod. “Bet you’re miserable you have to visit the hag too, huh?” He moves so they’re inside the house now, softly closing the door behind him with his back as he does, making sure not to let go of Yua.

“Kacchan.”

Katsuki looks up, Izuku standing at the far end of the genkan, gawking at him like a freak. Izuku’s been organizing what will be Auntie’s new bathroom and must have come down after hearing all the noise. Katsuki just grunts at him, looking back down at the baby and gently rocking her, rolling his eyes at how annoyingly adorable she is.

When Katsuki hears Izuku near him, he glances back up, Yua reaching out with one tiny hand to hold onto his arm. The shitnerd is watching him like a hawk seeing his prey, though, which makes Katsuki pull a disgusted look at because he recognizes it all too well. Is Izuku seriously horny right now? Does this idiot’s sex drive never cease? Izuku was all over him this morning at his old house, forcing him to stay quiet so they didn’t wake up Auntie, which Katsuki nearly killed him for. So, the fact that he’s wanting to again is just—

“Kacchan, we should have a kid.”

Katsuki, embarrassingly, nearly drops the damn baby, his heart beating so fast he's positive it's about to stop. For a second, he almost believes that Izuku’s making some twisted joke, but when he sees just how serious Izuku’s expression is, the determination set in his eyes, he knows Izuku means it with every aspect of his being.

What the fuck.

“There is no fucking way you just said that,” Katsuki finally manages to reply, just in time for his deranged mother to hear him.

“Katsuki, don’t say that shit in front of the baby!”

Katsuki, heart still beating so loud he swears he’s about to faint, turns on her quickly, Yua letting out another cute babble at the movement. Izuku’s still locked in on him like he’s about to pounce.

“What the he—what about you? You just said sh—ugh!” He stalks over to his mother, gently pushing Yua into her arms before he turns around and grabs Izuku’s arm, dragging him up to his old bedroom with a tight grip and threatening tears in his eyes. There’s no fucking way.

Izuku, meanwhile, is about to have a damn aneurysm, apparently. “A-ah, Kacchan, I’m sorry! I know that came out of nowhere, it’s just as soon as I saw you, it just, I don’t know, it clicked, you looked so cute, and you were so soft and gentle with her, I just wasn’t expecting it, it just—” Katsuki pulls open his old door, shoving Izuku inside as he closes it, the nerd still rambling. “—I know we’ve talked about it before, but it’s been so long, and I know that you said you’d be okay with it but maybe you aren’t wanting it anymore, I’m sorry, Kacchan, we can definitely just pretend I didn’t say—"

“Did you mean it, Izuku?” Katsuki asks, cutting him off, not wanting to hear him try to take it all back, not after making him nearly have a heart attack. Katsuki clenches his jaw when he feels tears start to well up. “You have to mean it this time.”

Izuku’s frozen, gaping at him as he seems to take in the tension in Katsuki’s body, the anticipatory breaths he’s letting out. And, Katsuki finally sees it. He sees it all click into place for Izuku. All of it.

Predictably, Izuku starts crying. Unpredictably, he’s crowding Katsuki up against the door, slotting their mouths together in the grossest way possible, his tears and snot making it disgustingly wet, but he’s murmuring frantic I’m sorry, Kacchans and Yes, please, I want a kid with you so so much, you’d be the best father, please against his skin so Katsuki can’t complain too much, especially since he’s crying as well.

“You fucking idiot,” Katsuki finally lets out, Izuku’s breaths hot and heavy against him. He sniffs, bringing up one hand to wipe fruitlessly at his tears. Izuku’s crying so much too, fucking hell. “You’re such a crybaby, Deku.” He mutters.

Izuku lets out a warbled laugh at that. “I’m an idiot, too. This is what’s been bothering you, Kacchan? Right? What you wanted to talk to me about?”

Katsuki grits his teeth, a part of him still embarrassed about failing so much to just fucking talk about it, but he forces a nod. “Yeah. Tried to bring it up, but shit kept getting in the way, I don’t know. Figured it wasn’t time yet.”

Izuku’s lower lip is trembling now and Katsuki huffs lightly, lightly tracing the curve of it with one of his fingers. Izuku’s tears are all over him now, his face so blotchy already, as if it’s used to his tears.

“It’s fine, Izuku. I was planning on talking about it again soon anyway. Just needed some time to relax about it. So stop fucking crying, you baby.”

Laughing again, Izuku leans his head against Katsuki’s shoulder, snuffling pathetically, and Katsuki can feel his smile.

“We’re going to be parents, Kacchan.” He pulls back and his grin is so blinding that Katsuki’s heart tugs so much he may start crying all over again. This is his person. Izuku is always going to be his person.

“Yeah, nerd. We will and we’re going to kick ass at it.” He smirks. “Although, I’m going to beat you at being a better father. Just you watch.”

As expected, Izuku protests immediately, claiming that they’ll both be the better parents together, but there’s also that spark of competition in his eyes that Katsuki adores so much so he knows Izuku is going to take this just as seriously as he will.

He always does, after all.
