Work Text:
Oliver closed the door behind him with a loud sigh. He was quick to sit on the small wooden bench in his foyer and untie his shoes, placing them neatly in line with all the others lined up near the front door. He shrugged off his coat and placed it carefully on the coat rack, then sat there for a few moments, staring at the floor as he tried to collect himself.
“Welcome home!” Fukase’s cheery voice called out from a room over. Oliver heard feet patter against the ground before he saw red hair peek around the corner. Fukase’s happy smile seemed to drop when he saw Oliver sitting there. Something caring flashed in his eyes. “Rough day?”
Oliver only nodded and stood up from the wooden bench. He held his arms out to Fukase as he walked towards him, and crashed forward against Fukase's body. Fukase scrambled to catch him, one hand around his waist, and the other around his back, both holding Oliver tightly to him in order to not let him fall to the cold floor below. Oliver nuzzled against Fukase's chest, sighing in frustration.
Fukase always found it cute when Oliver was like this, though it made his heart hurt to see Oliver so tired. Oliver deserved to always be happy. He always did his best to make Oliver as happy as possible when the two of them were together, though there wasn’t much he could do when they had to be apart…
Oliver finally carried his own weight again after a few seconds of silence, standing up fully so that the top of head reached near Fukase’s eye level. Fukase’s grip slightly relaxed, relieved that he was no longer the only thing stopping Oliver from face-planting on the floor, but he didn’t let go. The hand around Oliver’s back rubbed comforting circles against thick fabric, and the hand holding Oliver’s waist came up to gently cup his cheek. Oliver leaned into the touch, letting out a breath of air as a small smile made its way onto his face.
“Are you okay?” Fukase’s voice was full of concern as he asked the question, his thumb sliding back and forth over Oliver’s rosy cheek in a comforting motion.
“Yeah…” Oliver breathed out his answer. “Just a little tired.”
Fukase slowly moved his hands away from Oliver cheek and back, motioning for the blonde to follow him as he exited the foyer. It was a lot warmer once they were properly inside their home; more peaceful. Fukase led Oliver to sit on the couch with him in their living room, and was quick to unroll a thick blanket that they kept on the coffee table. Oliver let himself relax into the warmth as Fukase cuddled up by his side and draped the blanket adorned with little cartoon birds across both of their laps.
Oliver leaned against Fukase's chest again once they were all settled in. He wrapped his arms around his partner’s body and held him close like he could disappear if he let go. Fukase hugged Oliver back with one arm, the other hand placed gently atop his head. Sensitive scarred fingers ran through soft blonde locks. Oliver's hair was always so soothing to the touch. Its softness reminded him of a big fluffy yellow cat. Oliver let out a contented hum when Fukase moved to scratch behind his ears, his eye closing as he let himself get lost in the relaxing sensations.
“I love you.” Oliver almost jumped when Fukase’s soft voice ripped through the silence. “You always know that, right?”
Oliver opened his eye to see Fukase looking down at him with concern on his face. “Of course I know that…” His fingers fiddled with the silky fabric of Fukase’s shirt. “I always know that.”
Some of the pain in Fukase’s expression relaxed with those words. “It just makes me upset to see you unhappy… even if it's only for a while. You can always talk to me if something’s wrong. You know that, right?”
Oliver couldn’t help but chuckle at the anxiety in Fukase’s eyes. He was always so worried over nothing. He was so caring of those around him. But Fukase wouldn’t be Fukase without all those traits, would he? It was just something Oliver loved so much about him. “Yes, I know that, Fukase. Nothing’s wrong, really. I just missed you is all.”
Fukase’s fingers mindlessly massaged Oliver’s scalp while he spoke to him, his smile becoming genuine again. Happy feelings welled up inside of him at the words. He disliked having to spend time apart, but hearing that Oliver missed him when he was away made him feel more at ease. No matter how many times Oliver said it, it always made him feel so loved. “I love you.” Fukase’s voice was just barely above a whisper. “I love you so much.”
Fukase bent down to press a kiss to Oliver’s forehead, swiping his bangs away to reveal soft, pale, skin. Oliver giggled at the feeling of Fukase’s lips against his forehead, his hand unconsciously reaching up to touch it. “I love you too, Fukase.”
The two of them fell into silence, only the soft sounds of wind banging on the windows and the quiet creaks of the house surrounded them. Oliver could feel the beat of Fukase’s heart as his head rested against his chest. He could feel the simple motions of Fukase’s fingers as they twirled Oliver's hair around them and scratched lightly at his scalp. Oliver loved quiet moments like this. Moments where he could forget about all that was happening in the world. Moments where he could forget about the unrelenting cold outside and focus on only the warmth that Fukase’s body gave off.
Slowly, Oliver could feel himself nodding off to sleep. It made Fukase smile. Oliver really needed some rest, and he was happy to sit with him however long it would take. Oliver’s eyelashes fluttered like he was fighting to stay awake, just for a few more moments of happiness with his partner, but Fukase continued his soothing strokes, whispering quiet words under his breath that he was sure Oliver could barely hear.
“Shhh… It’s okay… Go to sleep…”
And with Oliver's eyes finally shut, the quiet rise and fall of their chests, and the feeling of each other's warmth and weight, each of them felt at peace. Fukase continued to mindlessly entwine his fingers with Oliver's hair, his mind full of nothing but thoughts of how beautiful his partner was. Moments like this between them felt special.
When the two of them were together like this, the world felt truly quiet.
