My Forever and Your Eternity

Summary:

Valentine's Day, the holiday of love and couples galore is usually a lonely day for Aventurine. To add onto the loneliness, he watches on of Ratio's assistants hang all over the doctor after a meeting. Confronting the man with jealousy brewing inside Aventurine wasn't the best idea, though through their short exchange (and probably due to his divine luck) Aventurine somehow lands a date with the esteemed Dr. Veritas Ratio.

Work Text:

Rhythmic tapping filled the room along with the rustling of papers. The conference meeting had graciously ended early, so people could enjoy Valentine’s Day with their lovers. It was merely a ruse to boost morale in the workplace, but a day off is a luxury for those in the IPC.

When the rustling stopped, it signaled their handler was finished tucking them away neatly in a folder. A piercing, observant gaze watched as the folder was closed, but its handler didn’t take the opportunity to stand and leave. The observer smiled when there was a sigh from the other person.

“Is there a reason for your gawking, gambler?” Finally, their eyes met.

“Not at all. Though, why wouldn’t I admire such a view, doctor?” Aventurine’s smile grew as Ratio’s eyes narrowed into a glare. There was a hint of irritation in the executive’s voice, but Ratio couldn’t discern why. An irritated Aventurine meant an extra earful of riddles to decode. Certainly not something Ratio wished to entertain today.

“Awfully assertive today aren’t we?”

“Maybe I’m just in a festive mood.” The blond’s head tilted, letting his eyes flick over to the various red-pink Valentines decor plastered all across the room. “Say, what are your plans for today… a date perhaps? Possibly with the pretty assistant that accompanied you today? She seemed quite interested in you before she left.”

Sighing, Ratio pinched the bridge of his nose. So it was jealousy.

“Nothing of the sort is happening. That woman is always like this. She philanders with any single man for a free dinner every year. Not that I have any issues with it. However, after declining her offer for the third year in a row, you would think she’d take the hint.” That was more than what he had intended to say, but Ratio was always more loose lipped around Aventurine. This gained an amused chuckle from the blond.

“I can’t blame her, you’re quite the catch Ratio. Intelligent, successful, very handsome… why, I’d try over and over just for a chance.” Aventurine sits back in his chair, his smile still prevalent on his face. “Life as a single person during this time is quite lonely. "I like to play a game with myself where I go find another lonely soul like myself. It’s never satisfactory, but it takes the edge off the oppressive lovey-dovey atmosphere.”

“That’s hardly a healthy way to deal with such loneliness.” The doctor lowered his hand and crossed his arms.

“Ouch. So hostile. See, maybe you should try it. A good lay may ease all that stuffy tension you have.” He shrugged. “Well, I suppose it doesn’t have to be good. It rarely is.”

“I do not fraternize with others like that.” Ratio averted his gaze while the tips of his ears turned pink. “My rule is to wait until I am with the person I wish to spend my life with.”

“Oh? I wouldn’t have pegged you for a hopeless romantic type. Though, I suppose it makes sense.” Aventurine stood, walking around to Ratio’s side and leaned against the table. He was far too close, invading the scholar’s personal space. “You never tried to let loose? Is this some personal chastity thing?”

“Why would you want to know such a thing?” Ratio questioned.

“Come on, humor me a little.” There’s an air of tension between them. Though Ratio couldn’t figure out why. “I’m sure you even have a whole scientific justification behind it.”

“You…you are correct in that matter. Though, I still don't understand why you must know.” They stared at each other, Aventurine’s unwavering resolve winning over. Ratio sighed. “Intimacy of that nature between two people is a bonding activity. Biologically, we as humans typically attach ourselves to those we are intimate with to form a strong connection. While I am not against casual relations, it is not for me. The universe is vast, full of different cultures and practices that do not conform to this of course, so it’s not set in stone. Personally, I believe savoring such a moment between two lovers is what I prefer to experience. So no, I will not indulge in a one time fling.”

Aventurine leaned down, pushing his sunglasses up to reveal those pretty magenta-blue eyes. He observed Ratio’s face, taking in the nervous shift of the man's eyes.

“How sweet . And here I was going to make an offer. An exception to my rule of finding a nameless soul to waste my night with.” A hollow chuckle filled the room. “I suppose it was a gamble fated to fail. Unless… my dear doctor, would you make an exception for me? ”

Ratio’s eyes widened and he quickly turned his head away to hide the incoming rush of heat to his face. It didn’t hide much. From the tips of his ears to his neck, the poor scholar's skin was aflame in a rosy hue. In the silence there came a quiet mumble from the man.

“Hm? I didn’t quite catch that, my dear professor.”

Shyly, Ratio turned his head back towards Aventurine; though he was still sheepishly avoiding eye contact.

“I said–” There was a moment of hesitation before he continued, “If it were you , it wouldn’t be an exception.”

“Huh?” Aventurine’s smile fell — more from shock than unease —  as those words sunk in. The simple, indirect confession hung in the air between them, stagnating as they both processed the reality of it. When it finally clicked in Aventurine’s mind, he stood upright, hiding half his face behind his hand. “That’s— I don't understand… you just said… what? ”

Here Aventurine was, at a loss for words, face burning from a few simple words. He’s been confessed to a multitude of times. Though none were as honest, as real , as this. He’s sure that Ratio is incapable of lying about such things, meaning that every word was the truth. A truth that Aventurine couldn’t possibly wrap his head around at the moment.

Suddenly Ratio stood, gathered his paperwork and stepped away all without sparing his companion a glance.

“Forgive me. I may have overstepped a boundary with my words. If you wish to forget what I said, that is fine. We can act like nothing was said here.” He took another step back. “I will take my leave now. I hope the rest of your holiday goes well.”

He didn’t get far before a hand wrapped around his wrist. Ratio turned and was met with the sight of a very flustered Aventurine peering up at him. It was enough to make Ratio weak in the knees.

“You can’t just leave like that.” Aventurine released his grip on Ratio’s wrist. He was nervous, the tell tale sign of his left hand hiding behind his back was an obvious trait the scholar had picked up on over the years. “I didn’t get to respond yet.”

Ratio blinked, then cleared his throat with a nod. How inconsiderate of him. Of course he should have given Aventurine a chance to reply. Even if it was rejection.

“Very well then. I’m listening.”

“Well—” Aventurine shifted uncomfortably, his eyes focused on the ground. This was a new experience for him. Normally, he’s full of flourishing words and flirty banter, even with Ratio. Not once did he ever think something would come of it. But here he is, at a loss for words as those molten gold eyes staring down at him expectedly. “Actually, I have no idea what to say. When it comes to you, I never thought I’d get this far.”

“May I remind you that you were the one who started this.”

Aventurine huffed, finally meeting Ratio’s eyes again. All his bravado was gone; replaced with nothing more than a childish pout.

“Your assistant was hanging all over you! How was I supposed to react?”

This made Ratio frown. Without context, this statement may seem like a lovers’ squabble however,

“As you normally would with anyone else. Your jealousy over her flirtations are misplaced. In what way do you have the right to be offended? As far as I recall, we are both single men.” Ratio’s voice was level, testing the executives motives. He’s always known that Aventurine found him attractive, and neither of them were bothered by the subtle tension that was between them. To think that all that subtlety would build up into such a thing as jealousy . If it weren’t for the light rosy dusting across his cheeks, no one could tell Ratio was flustered by this revelation.

At this, Aventurine froze. Ratio was right, as usual. Infuriatingly so. Now, Aventurine stood there with shame creeping its way across his face. By all means, it was an overreaction. Ratio was a bachelor; he’s allowed to have suitors freely come and go. Who was Aventurine to be upset about that?

Well, it could be the soul crushing reality that the esteemed Dr. Veritas Ratio was far from his reach. At least, that’s what he thought until this moment.

“Okay, fine. I admit it, that was out of line. Sorry, I’m just… maybe the holiday atmosphere got to me and not in a good way.” He felt utterly stupid now. Reluctantly, Aventurine looked away from Ratio’s heavy gaze. Why wasn’t he saying anything? Not even a lecture, or a mildly friendly acceptance of the apology. Aventurine was already on edge, even more so now as he raised his hand to his neck to nervously scratch at his brand. He really shouldn’t be doing that, but it's a bad habit he formed when he’s stressed. It didn’t help that it always seemed to burn when he was anxious.

A hand wrapped around Aventurine’s wrist, pulling it away from the reddening patch of skin.

“Stop that.” Ratio sighed. “I can understand your sentiment, therefore, I will accept your apology. Though, I do have one condition.”

A small inkling of hope sparked within Aventurine. Good an out to this situation.

“Really?” Aventurine winced at how excited he sounded. Clearing his throat, he calmed his nerves. “Ah… well, what is this condition then?”

“If you would allow me to, I’d love to take you to dinner.” Ratio’s hand tightened around Aventurine’s wrist. Almost as if he was afraid the blond would run off. “Nothing has to come from it, so don’t feel forced. I just think it’s time we do something other than dance around each other.”

Aventurine felt like he was floating. He couldn’t help the laughter that surfaced. Ridiculous. This was so ridiculous, but it was so… Ratio . Aventurine found it endearing. If it was anyone else he would have run off after an accusatory rejection.

“You’re serious about this, Doc?” Aventurine studied the scholar’s face. Other than the obvious blush, there weren't any signs of deception or faltering. Ratio was confident in his offer, nothing more or less. And if Aventurine’s rapid heart beat had any say about it, he couldn't find it in him to deny the man. “You know what? Dinner sounds nice. I accept. But Pier Point is booked everywhere, something so last minute would be impossible—”

“Do not worry about that. I will message you the address of the restaurant and when to arrive. Just take your time getting ready.” He loosened his hold on Aventurine’s wrist, sliding it down to take the blond’s hand into his own. Ratio smiled, then lifted their hands to place a gentle kiss on Aventurine’s knuckles. “I will see you later tonight then, my dearest gambler.”

~*~

He had three hours.

Three whole hours to figure out what the hell just happened and get ready for dinner.

Except Aventurine could barely process the events that lead him to this situation. Even the catcakes are concerned as they paw at his legs, their meows were the only noise in his apartment. Eventually, he snapped out of the daze, petted each of the cats’ heads, and finally moved from the front doorway.

In one way, he’s rather excited. It’s been quite a while since the idea of a date gave him such a rush. However, on the other hand it was with the Dr. Veritas Ratio. Now, of course, Aventurine was the one who started the conversation, but that was more out of annoyance of seeing someone else draping themselves all over the scholar’s arm. Not that he had any reason to be upset about such a thing, as Ratio so bluntly reminded him.

Though look at him now, pacing in his room thinking of every other way that conversation could have gone. With a sigh, he stopped, flopping down on his bed. He needed to get himself together, clear his head.

Ratio’s stupidly attractive voice echoed in Aventurine’s head: A nice bath is always good for a clear mind and healthy body. Should you ever have the time, maybe you should wash away your troubles.

Damn him for being knowledgeable.

A bath did sound good though, so it couldn’t hurt. With minimal effort, Aventurine prepared the bath. He had a few oils and salts that Ratio recommended but never used, so now was as good of a time as any. By the time he was able to sink into the water, the therapeutic process had already helped ease his mind. No wonder Ratio enjoyed baths like this.

A while later, Aventurine emerged from his bathroom, freshly pampered and clean. The tension his muscles usually had was gone. Perhaps he should indulge in this luxury more. He pulled on one of his fluffy robes and made his way back to his room. When he opened his closet, he frowned. What do people wear on dates? Aventurine had looked up the place Ratio sent him — it did seem to be formal — but how dressed up does he need to be? Tack on the fact that it was a holiday, Aventurine was at a loss on what to wear.

Not to mention: What would Ratio find attractive?

At first glance, his closet looked too frivolous. Everything he owned was designer or custom made, and certainly not casual enough for a typical day. Did he even have anything that wasn't covered in jewels or faux fur? A little nagging voice in the back of his mind reminded him of every time Ratio said his fashion sense was far too bold . Aventurine couldn’t agree more at this moment.

Well, he could call for backup. Aventurine picked up his phone, dialing the number for the only person he could trust with this task.

“ Hello? ”

“Ah, Topaz! I hope I’m not bothering you.” He doesn’t really care if he’s bothering her; he’s having a crisis right now.

“ Not really. What do you want? ” At least she sounded bored and not annoyed at Aventurine’s surprise call.

“I have a date tonight and nothing to wear.” There was silence on the other end of the call. At first Aventurine thought that maybe Topaz had hung up on him, but the sigh a moment later proved otherwise.

“ Aventurine, your closet is worth more than half the planets we collect from. How the hell do you have nothing to wear? And since when do you care about your dates? ”

“Do you not see the problem with that? I have all these clothes and nothing seems right. I need help Topaz.” More silence, aside from the excited sounds of Numby playing in the background. “This is an actual date. A real one. Not just some hook up. Please Topaz? I’ll do the coffee runs for the next month if you help me.”

“Oh wow, finally settling down are we? Who would have thought! ” Topaz laughed. “ Since this is so serious, let's start with the basics. Where are you going? ”

If Aventurine wasn’t so desperate for help he would have chewed her out for sounding so sarcastic.

“Hmm. It looks like an older restaurant? Nothing like the downtown skyscrapers, more vintage. Honestly I didn’t think Pier Point had something like this. It even has real flowers!” Honestly, Aventurine was surprised when he first saw the venue. It’s rare to see an actual plant other than a dying succulent on someone's office desk. He had to admit it, Ratio’s knack for finding something so beautiful on this artificial planet was impressive.

Topaz hummed on the other end, taking only thirty seconds to come to a conclusion.

“ Just find something that works with the flora. What color are the flowers? ”

Aventurine pulled up the address on his tablet, and looked through the pictures provided on the restaurant's website.

“Very on theme, red, pink, white. I can probably find something in those colors.” Placing the tablet down on his bed, Aventurine made his way back to his closet.

“ Go with something red. It’s the most passionate color, you know. Easy to make yourself sleek and sexy too, if you want to be eye-catching .”

“Are you sure you’re not just saying that because it’s your favorite color?” Aventurine teased, pushing through his abundance of shirts to find a suitable option.

“ I may be biased, but I’m also right .” Well, at least she’s confident. Besides, who was Aventurine to question Topaz’s fashion sense? Most of the time he has a team of stylists to dress him. He’s gotten better over time, but apparently just because it’s expensive and sparkly, it doesn't mean it's an appealing outfit. Both Jade and Topaz had lectured him about that very early on in his career. Best not to repeat that event.

After a minute of shuffling through clothes, a bit of shiny red material caught Aventurine’s eye. He pulled the shirt out, finding the tag still on it. It was a fairly simple satin shirt — compared to most of his clothes — loose, deep v-neck with puffy, ruffle sleeves. Subtle, but paired with a nice pair of high waisted slacks would work well. Aventurine smiled, ripped off the tag and hurried back to his bed.

“I think I got something. It’s brand new, never worn, so I hope it’s good enough.” The thought that he wouldn’t make a statement wasn’t an issue; but he wanted to impress Ratio. A scoff came from his phone.

“ You’ll be fine. I’m sure that doctor of yours would drool over anything you'd wear .”

“As if. He’s always making comments about my overly flamboyant taste in fashion. It’s actually annoying— Hold on. How did you know it was him? ”

“ Oh please. The only person you’d get this frantic over is that guy. Not to mention the amount of heart eyes I’ve had to witness between the both of you… gross really . Hey, Numby, stop chewing on that! ” There was some rustling, and a squeal from the trotter before Topaz sighed. “ If that’s all you needed, I’ll be going now. Numby needs food and I have a date with a tub of ice cream. ”

Without so much as a goodbye, Topaz hung up, leaving Aventurine on his own.

“Well thank you for the help I guess.” He sighed and tossed his phone aside on the bed. There was only an hour left until he had to meet with Ratio, so he stood, grabbed his chosen shirt, and made his way back to his closet for a suitable pair of pants.

It didn’t take long before Aventurine was dressed up in front of his mirror. He looked good — well he always looked good — but he felt good too. A rarity despite his overly praised natural beauty. An even more rare feeling of excitement bubbled up with him; Aventurine was really looking forward to this date. He couldn’t recall the last time he felt anything like this.

Maybe his luck was finally taking a turn for the better.

Before leaving his room, Aventurine finished off his outfit with a simple gold necklace and earring set. His flashy blue-turquoise earring can take a break tonight, along with his gloves and rings. There was no need to be overdressed around Ratio. Which was a blessing, sometimes the weight of all those jewels was too much.

Satisfied, Aventurine took one last glance in his mirror before setting off.

~*~

Surprisingly, the ride to the restaurant didn’t take too long. It was on the edge of the city, sure, but the backroads were clear of traffic. Aventurine was greeted outside the building by a staff member. He thanked and tipped the man for valeting his car.

In person, the restaurant was even more stunning. Aventurine found himself admiring the carefully carved stone as he walked up the stairs. This was a world away from the normal cityscape of Pier Point. It was almost like a drop of unrecorded history on the artificial planet. He’d have to remember to ask Ratio how he managed to find such a treasure amongst the skyscrapers.

Inside was illuminated with warm lights and candles. Not a single trace of the technology that was common on the planet. The hostess was busy greeting another customer, and it wasn’t until Aventurine got closer did he realize the other person was Ratio .

In reality, he probably should have noticed the notable pop of indigo hair, but the man before him was dressed far differently than Aventurine had ever seen. The hostess had noticed him by now, smiling and waving him over. It took a good chunk of willpower to take his eyes off his date so he wouldn’t stumble into the queue.

“Director Aventurine! Just in time, your reservation was just checked in and we’ll get you seated in just a moment.” The hostess smiled again and continued to tap in what he assumed was Ratio’s information on a tablet.

Aventurine cleared his throat and turned to the man standing next to him.

“Well, Doc, I do hope you weren’t waiting for too long.” At the sound of his voice, Ratio finally turned to face Aventurine. At that moment, all the air left Aventurine’s lungs causing him to stutter out a compliment, “You… you look quite dashing.”

Now, he knew Ratio was attractive, but this was bordering on unfair. A gentle, small smile graced the doctor’s face. Everything about his expression was warm and soft, inviting even. It was a stark contrast to the outfit he wore. The shirt was a deep navy, a signature color of Veritas Ratio, but that wasn’t the kicker. It was a sheer, lace button up that left nothing to the imagination. Every contour of Ratio’s carefully sculpted torso was on display beneath the transparent fabric. It was unfair how well the scholar pulled it off.

Aventurine’s eyes trailed up, meeting wine-gold eyes for the first time that night. Ratio’s eyeliner was sharper than usual, framing his eyes perfectly. Ratio’s hair was slicked back on the right side, pinned back by the usual laurel clip.

Aventurine was unapologetically staring. He knew he was, however, Ratio was no different.

“I arrived a few minutes early to make sure our table was ready when you arrived.” The doctor’s eyes had also traveled up and down Aventurine’s form. An action that made the blond flush and advert his gaze. “I must say, you are divinely stunning tonight. I rather enjoy being able to see you and not your layers of jewelry.”

“Already taking jabs at my fashion sense? I’ll have you know I’m professionally styled for every event you see me at.” Aventurine was glad for the light teasing. It calmed his nerves, being able to banter just as easily as any other day with Ratio made this event seem more normal . “Though, I guess tonight that honor goes to myself.”

And Topaz, but Ratio didn’t need to know that.

“I hardly trust the IPC stylists then. Remind me to deny their help if the time ever comes.” The hostess motioned for the pair to follow her and Ratio offered his arm to Aventurine. “Shall we then?”

With a shy nod, Aventurine looped his arm around Ratio’s. It was just a simple gesture, but it made him feel a spark of warmth all the same.

They were led up to the second floor, through the dozens of full tables to a lone, private table on the outside balcony. The intimate table was surrounded by more decorative flora and subtle string lights. It was like stepping into a different world all together. Even the sky was clearer and the stars more visible. A truly romantic getaway.

Aventurine admired the setting as Ratio pulled one of the dining chairs out for him to sit. The blond smiled, taking his seat with a quiet “ thank you .” It was strange, being doted on like this, but he’s also never been on a proper date, so this may be a normality he’s missed out on over the years.

“I must say, this place is quite the treasure. How did you come to find it? I live here, and I’ve never heard of this restaurant before,” Aventurine asked, reaching for one of the menu’s left for them. The food array was quaint, but still high end, as is everything on Pier Point.

“A few years ago I had to meet with a client and he chose this place. A friend of his owns the restaurant, but he doesn't participate in over advertising like the rest of the planet. Since then, I’ve become a regular here, whenever I stay in Pier Point.” Ratio picks up the other menu and turns to the cover. “The slogan, ‘Dining Hidden Among the Stars’ fits quite well.”

“I guess I’ll have to subtly recommend this place then.” Aventurine hummed as he read through the menu. “Speaking of, what do you recommend? I’m sure all the food is good, but I’d like to hear your opinion.”

“The pasta dishes are my personal favorites. Well balanced flavors and good portions. Most do well with a glass of wine too.” Ratio answered, skimming through his menu before setting it down. He’s long since memorized the menu, only needing a glance over to pick his meal. “If you choose one, I can order the wine best suited for it.”

“Hmm, tempting offer but I’ll have to decline the wine. I drove here myself tonight, I must be responsible.” Normally a glass wouldn’t hurt, but Aventurine still wanted to impress Ratio. Drinking and driving would surely earn him a good scolding from the doctor.

“You? Responsible? Oh my, the world must be ending. Are you sure you’re the same risk taking gambler I know?” The playful jab made Aventurine roll his eyes.

“I assure you I am. Unfortunately, you’ve been too good of an influence on me, Ratio. I’m afraid your heart rate will stay relatively normal compared to before.” It was supposed to be a simple statement, but it held a lot of weight. At least, for Aventurine it did. Ratio, along with the catcakes, are some of the very few things giving him a will to see tomorrow.

“I fear you may be mistaken. The mere mention of your name can make my heart race, and it’s not because of your antics.” Ratio’s cheeks reddened slightly, surprised by his own forwardness. He cleared his throat before continuing, “Also, it’s Veritas. I believe we can drop formalities around each other. My given name is yours to use.”

Aventurine blinked, more stunned than anything. The confession alone was enough to cause him to blush as well. Adding on the permission to use Ratio’s first name? He might as well be a puddle of mush.

“Right. Okay. Thank you, Veritas.” Saying it out loud felt odd, not in a bad way though. Aventurine felt undeserving of this blessing, but he’s not one to let something so precious slip away anymore. “You can call me by my name too, you know. Not ‘Aventurine’ but Ka—”

He froze, stopping himself from speaking his own birth name. Aventurine couldn’t even remember the last time he said his name, let alone had someone else say it. It no longer felt real to him, but this would make it a reality again. Could he handle that? Could he really handle the weight that came with the name his family blessed him with? He’s long since been told to abandon his past, but he couldn’t do that anymore. Not after everything he’s been through, and certainly not with Ratio — no, Veritas .

“Hey, look at me.” A hand reached out and tilted Aventurine’s face up. Veritas’ expression held a concern, probably due to Aventurine’s sudden silence. The night’s barely begun and he’s already fumbling. “Do not stress over it. I understand the complexities the Stonehearts have with their names, and you even more so. If it is going to make you uncomfortable, do not force the issue. I am a patient man, I can wait.”

How embarrassing this was. Something that should be so simple, so effortless, felt more like a crushing presence. And here Veritas was far too kind. Always so kind .

“Yeah… yeah sorry. I just— It feels a little unfair, you know? I can’t give you the same courtesy right now.” Aventurine took a deep breath to ground himself. Humiliating . “At least, not in public. No ones supposed to know… they can’t know.”

“Then that makes it all the more special for me.” Veritas smiled, confident and gorgeous. “Something so important being just between us? It would be a precious privilege that I will treasure forever.”

Of course Veritas would find a way to make the best of a situation. Aventurine felt a little silly being so upset about it.

“Thank you. I mean it, really.” He offered a polite smile, and, in return, he received an affirming nod. The tense weight Aventurine had momentarily felt had lifted. Veritas was always a comforting presence. In the beginning, Aventurine was afraid of this. Peace and comfort were foreign to him; the sensation of safety itself was enough to stir anxiety within him. Aventurine learned later on that it was common for those who went through difficult times to be adverse to the lack of conflict. Still, this didn’t stop him from being drawn to the doctor and his calm nature.

Perhaps they were always meant to end up like this: at ease with each other, casual small talk filling the space between them after they placed their orders. When their food arrived, they enjoyed their meals, and Aventurine expressed how impressed he was with his dish. Veritas took pleasure in watching Aventurine being happy .

Under the stars and delicate lighting, Veritas was enamored by this version of Aventurine. They’ve always been able to be themselves around each other, however, this night seemed to let them be even more free. Neither of them have genuinely smiled or laughed so much before. By the time their dessert had come, the atmosphere around them was charged with a flirty buzz.

A small, chocolate strawberry cake was placed between them, courtesy of the restaurant's Valentine’s Day special for couples.

Before Veritas could even dig into the treat, a fork with cake ready was placed in front of his mouth. Startled, he blinked and shifted his eyes to Aventurine who was watching him with an amused smile.

“Come on, humor me, Doc. Let me feed you the first bite.” Aventurine moved his hand closer and Veritas could feel the icing barely touching his lips. Hesitantly, he took the bite of cake into his mouth. It was rich, sweet and undoubtedly delicious. Pleased with himself, Aventurine pulled his hand away to gather more of the dessert.

Except, that's not how it went. Suddenly, Aventurine was pulled by his chair around the table and stopped right beside Veritas. It caused Aventurine to gasp and grab onto the chair to keep himself from falling. He looked up at his date, glaring at the smug smile the scholar wore.

“It would make eating this much easier if we were closer, no?” Veritas cut into the cake with his fork and brought the piece to Aventurine’s mouth. “Won’t you humor me this time?”

Aventurine took the challenge with pride, happily eating the piece offered to him without breaking their eye contact. He was delighted to watch Veritas’ face redden, especially since Aventurine made a show of licking the fork clean of the last remains of icing.

This continued as they ate their dessert. They took turns feeding each other, laughing more than speaking. On occasion, Aventurine would tease Veritas with an extra flick of his tongue over the white icing on the fork, or slowly take the cake into his mouth with a smile. All of which gave the desired effect of flustering poor Veritas as he stammered out a “ damned gambler ” every time.

When their cake was finished, all that was left was a single whole strawberry. Aventurine took it upon himself to carefully cut the top leaves off. He took the fruit into his hand and lifted it to Veritas’ mouth.

“One last bite to share?” Aventurine asked innocently. Well, as innocently as one with such a mischievous glint to their eyes could convey. Though, at this point, Veritas had no reason to refuse and took the offered strawberry between his teeth. Without much warning, Aventurine joined him, taking the other half of the strawberry between his teeth as well. Veritas stared, wide-eyed, at the blond’s sudden movement. His cheeks even burned in the same hue as the fruit between them.

Aventurine bit down with a satisfying crunch, leaning just close enough for his lips to barely brush against Veritas’. He pulled away with a pleased hum, casually finishing off his half of the strawberry. Veritas sat there frozen in place, only reacting when what was left of the strawberry started to fall from his lips. He brought his hand up to his face, covering it in embarrassment while he ate the fruit.

“Must you be such a tease?” Veritas wasn’t used to such forms of seduction. He’s had a fair share of suitors, but nothing compared to Aventurine’s effortless ability to make his brain fail to work.

“Mmm, of course. I’ve got to leave you wanting more.” Aventurine rested his elbow on the table so he could lean his head against his hand. “So Veritas, did it work? Do you want me even more now?”

“You’re a fool.” It wasn’t said in an insulting way, but it still made Aventurine pout. “I will always want you. It doesn’t matter how many ploys you have up your sleeve, that will never change.”

Something about the way Veritas said that so plainly, as if it was the most obvious thing in the universe, made Aventurine’s mind go blank. He was far too honest with his words. Aventurine’s face burned, and he let out a nervous laugh.

“Is that so?” He laughed again and stood up from the table. “That’s… uh… Oh look at that, the stars look so lovely tonight!”

Aventurine rushed over to the balcony railing, but instead of looking to the sky he covered his face in embarrassment. Did he really just run off like that? What’s wrong with him? He must really look like an idiot now.

Behind him, he heard Veritas chuckle as he got up from the table and joined Aventurine at the railing. Aventurine uncovered his face, only glancing over in the doctor’s direction.

“You are quite easy to fluster.” Veritas leaned forward and rested his hands on the railing. Under the moonlight he looked so ethereal. Aventurine was enamored with the sight.

“I’m just not used to genuine — what do you even call this? Courtship?” He didn’t know. For all the charisma Aventurine of Stratagems has, he sure was failing miserably with words.

“Courtship? How old fashioned of you.”

Aventurine sighed, placed his hands on the railing and looked up at the stars. In this corner of Pier Point, they were more visible, safe from the abundance of city lights.

“Please, as if you’re any better.” Right, he wasn’t the only one red faced and fumbling. Veritas was just as equally disarmed as he was tonight. Though, there was more to Aventurine’s blubbering. "It's just… Why me? I’m nothing special compared to you. You’re Dr. Veritas Ratio, successful with so many universally beneficial accomplishments. I’m nothing like you. Not to mention the IPC is… not always ethically correct in its methods. And I know you hate that I’m a part of it.”

“I see you as separate from your job. You joined out of necessity, and that corporation is known for erasing the lives of their employees. I do not blame you for your superior's choices. While I do wish you could be free from the IPC, it is never that easy.” Veritas’ eyes lowered to the cityscape in the distance. “I also don’t appreciate you putting yourself beneath me. We are equals, and we have been for years now. I am no better or worse than you.”

“I feel as though that’s debatable. You know I have a few screws loose. It’s only a matter of time before I do something that turns you away.” It was a bitter, pessimistic thought, but it’s always been in the back of his mind. He’s not afraid to throw away his own or another's life. Aventurine was only a vision of perfection on the surface, but irreparably damaged underneath. It was only a matter of time before something happens and he’s alone again. “The thought of losing you eats away at me. Keeping my distance was my way of protecting you and myself. But I also don’t want to be at arm's length anymore.”

“Then don’t be. I’m here now aren’t I? Even if the future is fated to separate us, what’s stopping us from being together in the present?” Veritas spoke with such certainty, and Aventurine’s weak heart was falling into the trap laid before him. “Living in the present is more important than worrying about the future. You should never be weighed down by the unknown. Rather, you should face it with confidence. Preferably with the person who’s hopelessly smitten with you, of course.”

Veritas placed his hand over Aventurine’s, then gave it a light squeeze. Everything this man said and did made Aventurine so hopelessly lovesick.

“I should have known debating with the esteemed Dr. Veritas Ratio would end poorly for me. You certainly make some valid points.” He couldn’t help but smile. Though, why was accepting his own happiness so difficult? Aventurine’s eyes fell downcast and he spotted a rose in the decorative flora with a dying petal. He traced the falling petal with his finger. “But sometimes… it’s like this rose here. The withering makes it less valuable, less sought after. Is it worth caring for something that’s bound to wither away?”

He turned towards Veritas. He knew he shouldn’t expect an answer to something like that. This renowned doctor values all life, even a life like Aventurine. He already knew the answer that would be given. Though, he really wanted to hear it.

Is that too selfish to ask for?

As if Veritas could read his mind, he reached over to the rose and carefully plucked it from its place. He spun the flower in his fingers, admiring the way the petals fanned out from the motion. Then, his gaze found Aventurine’s and he gave a warm smile.

“And yet you were able to spot it amongst all the others.” Veritas then brushed a lock of blond hair behind Aventurine’s ear, gently tucking the rose’s stem within the strands. “Even withered, it’s still just as beautiful.”

“You’re not talking about the rose, are you?”

“No. But you weren’t either.” Veritas didn’t move his hand, instead he cupped Aventurine’s cheek and ran his thumb across his skin. The blond’s eyes widened as he looked up at Veritas in awe before leaning into the touch. “Forgive me if my forwardness offends you, but… I really want to kiss you right now.”

Aventurine only chuckled and shook his head.

“I think I’d be more offended if you didn’t.” He said, and tilted his head up in invitation, which Veritas took almost instantly.

It wasn’t anything extravagant as far as first kisses go. Their noses awkwardly bumped together as they found the proper angle, and it was a firm yet gentle press of their lips together. But it was enough to spark something within Aventurine.

To him, it was as if this was a confirmation of his next life chapter. Everything became real to him at that moment. Veritas wanted him, truly wanted him, despite all his flaws. The floodgates of his soul were open and all the feelings he had tried to desperately suppress were now freely flowing throughout him. And he couldn’t find it in him to care about being so open, so vulnerable. At least, not with Veritas.

When they pulled away from each other, there was visible shine to Aventurine’s eyes. A glint of life that hadn’t been a part of him for over a decade. As for Veritas, he looked absolutely bewitched by the kiss, or Aventurine himself, perhaps even both.

Aventurine’s mind was flooded with emotions desperately trying to spill over. And spill they did. Right out of the blond’s mouth.

“I love you.” As soon as he said them, he covered his mouth in embarrassment. “Sorry… that was so sudden. It’s far too early for that, isn’t it? Goddess above… just pretend I didn’t say anything. I didn’t mean to just blurt that out—”

“Aventurine.” Said blond froze as his hand was pulled away and he stared at Veritas in bewilderment. The doctor was far too calm for something like this so why— “I love you too.”

Hearing those words reciprocated felt unreal. Aventurine looped his arms around Veritas’ neck, pulling the man down as he stood on his toes. Their lips crashed together again. Teeth clashed for just a moment before they finally found the right angle. The sudden force of motion made Veritas stumble backward until he bumped into the table. He reached behind him, felt for a chair and held it to steady himself as he sat down. Aventurine followed so the kiss didn’t break and slotted himself perfectly on Veritas’ lap.

Hands found their way around Aventurine’s waist, and he was pulled closer. Veritas couldn’t help himself. He had waited so long for this to happen, and to finally have Aventurine in his grasp made him light headed. A low groan sounded from the blond as he started to slowly grind against his date. He ran his tongue across Veritas’ lips, who allowed entry without complaint. It was sweet with the remnants of their shared dessert that still lingered between every impatient lick.

Aventurine lowered his hands and let them trail down Veritas’ chest. Any shyness he felt prior was gone, replaced by an insatiable greed to consume everything that is Veritas Ratio. He shamelessly groped at the firm muscle of the doctor’s pecs. Every squeeze made the lace shirt rub roughly against his skin creating endless tingles of pleasure. Veritas broke their kiss, much to Aventurine’s dismay, so he could run his lips along the blond’s jaw,  trailing hot, open mouthed kisses down his neck.

Against the cool air of the night, every wet kiss had Aventurine shiver in response. Or maybe it was just the feeling of those soft lips against his skin that made him react like that. Either way, he tilted his head to allow Veritas full access to his neck. The scholar hummed in satisfaction, taking advantage of the new angle to sink his teeth into the brand. Aventurine’s responding moan encouraged Veritas to continue. He didn’t waste an inch of space of what was presented to him. Soon pale skin was covered in various bite marks and blotches of red.

Though, for Veritas, it still wasn’t enough.

He was far too eager, too lost in the feel of soft skin and the light scent of Aventurine’s cologne. The opportunity was given to him on a silver platter, and he made the most of it. Veritas dipped his hand under the loose, deep cut shirt and pushed it to the side. Red satin easily slid down Aventurine’s shoulder, and he couldn’t get a word in before teeth were sinking into his collarbone.

“Mmm… Veritas you—” A sharp gasp cut his words short as Veritas' tongue flicked over Aventurine’s now exposed nipple. Aventurine squirmed under the stimulation the sensitive bud was receiving. His fingers curled into indigo hair, disrupting the carefully styled strands. Not that Aventurine cared much. He was far too busy with trying to keep his voice down. “ What are you doing? ”

Veritas ignored the question. Instead he lifted Aventurine up and placed him on their table. Whatever protest Aventurine had died instantly when the doctor connected their lips again in a short, but heated kiss. When they broke, Veritas sat back down in his chair and pushed Aventurine’s knees apart.

His hands slid up clothed thighs, enjoying the way the muscle beneath tensed in response. He was getting too close, dangerously close to the obvious bulge in the blond’s pants but stopped short to rest his hands on that slim waist instead. Aventurine was pulled closer to the edge of the table, allowing Veritas to easily press kisses along clothed skin. The pace set had Aventurine dizzy. So much was happening at once that he didn’t realize the doctor’s plan until his pants were half unbuttoned.

“Wha— Wait!” Frantic, Aventurine stopped the scandalous action before he was completely exposed. It wasn’t until that moment that he was able to truly see the expression on Veritas’ face. Dilated pupils left only a thin gold ring on the man's eyes, his face was flushed in the prettiest rosy hue and it almost made Aventurine falter. There was no doubt in his mind that Veritas Ratio was utterly love drunk and lust driven. However, “You can’t . At least not here .”

Veritas blinked his way back into reality, jolting away from where his head was resting on Aventurine’s thigh. The sounds of the restaurant finally reached his ears again, the muffled clattering of dishes and whispers of other couples enjoying their Valentine's dinner filled the space around him.

“Forgive me. I didn’t mean to push that far.” The redness of the doctor’s face was no longer caused by arousal but humiliation due to his carelessness. Slender hands cupped his face and tilted it up and he was met with striking magenta-blue eyes.

“Come home with me.” Though it was a simple statement, it had Veritas scrambling to his feet. Aventurine laughed, reaching up to fix the laurel clip in Veritas’ hair and slid off the table. Their fingers were intertwined and Veritas was willingly pulled along through the restaurant. The bill was paid and Aventurine retrieved his car from the valet.

~*~

The drive to Aventurine’s apartment was not very long. Most people were still out celebrating the holiday or holed up in their homes alone leaving the streets nearly vacant in an otherwise lively planet. As soon as Aventurine parked his car and both men existed, Veritas pulled the smaller man into another kiss. The short drive was too much distance for the surprisingly impatient Veritas. Aventurine pulled away from the doctor’s pleading grasp to guide them through the parking garage and into the building’s lobby.

The only acknowledgement the receptionist gave the pair was a glance as they passed by and huddled into the elevator. Aventurine pushed the button for the top floor, then was lifted up and pressed against the elevator wall. He gasped and clung to the collar of Veritas’ shirt. The unmarked side of his neck was only bare for a mere few seconds. Blooms of red-purple marks soon mirrored the other side of his neck and Aventurine was useless against the onslaught of attention. He was just as desperate in the end, though his only contribution was weak rolls of his hips.

When the elevator dinged, Veritas carried Aventurine down the hall to the apartment’s front door. Instead of allowing Aventurine to open the door, he was slammed onto the wall beside it. Neither were in a rush, no one would see them here. Well aside from whomever is on security duty but that’s hardly an issue. Aventurine would generously tip the worker later to keep their mouth shut.

“Keys… in my left pocket.” Aventurine could barely breathe the words when they finally broke their kiss. Both of them were breathless and panting, but if they wished for things to continue they’d need to hurry along. Veritas kindly pulled the keys from Aventurine’s pocket and was about to unlock the door himself when he was stopped again. “ Cats . The catcakes. They'll be waiting at the door. You should put me down.”

There was a little bit of reluctance on Veritas’ side, but he nodded and gently set Aventurine down on his feet. After a failed attempt to straighten his clothes, Aventurine took his keys back from Veritas and unlocked the door. As soon as the click of the lock was heard, a chorus of meows followed suit. The door was opened, and instantly, Aventurine was met with three catcakes stacked atop each other in the doorway. He entered the apartment, patted the top-most cat as he passed by and motioned for his date to follow. The cats curiously watched Veritas enter. It wasn’t often Aventurine brought someone home with him. Actually, since getting the critters, he hasn’t had anyone over.

The cats unstacked, rushed over to Veritas and meowed at his feet for attention. It was an awkward exchange with the doctor leaning down to pat each one’s head.

“They remember you,” Aventurine supplied at Veritas’ surprise. “You should visit them more often.”

“Do I get to spend time with their owner as well?” The catcakes had left Veritas alone and were now gathered by Aventurine’s feet.

“Hmm. I think I can arrange that.” An arm wrapped around the blond’s waist, and he was pulled into another kiss. Confused meows cut the exchange sort, and Aventurine cleared his throat before kneeling down to address his pets. “Now, me and the doctor here are going to have uh… some alone time, so you guys need to stay out here.”

A flurry of disapproving mews came from the three cats.

“Don’t be like that. You guys get to see me every day.” Aventurine sighed at the big, pleading eyes of his companions. “How about this: your tv curfew is lifted tonight. You can watch your shows until I get you for bed, deal?”

Three enthusiastic nods later the pair were left alone as the living room filled with the chatter of whatever show was turned on. Once he was sure the cats were distracted, Aventurine sighed and kicked off his shoes, placing them neatly to the side where Veritas already placed his own.

Aventurine stood and grabbed Veritas’ hands to guide him to the bedroom.

“You have a curfew for them?”

“I do. Or else they’re up all night and grumpy the next day.” They reached the door and both of them entered the room. “I’m quite the responsible cat-dad, aren’t I?”

The door was closed and Aventurine looped his arms around Veritas’ neck.

“Indeed. In fact, you’ve been quite the responsible man tonight. I fear you may be an imposter.” The doctor chuckled, tilting his head so the lips on his neck could have free range.

“Mhm. Better than you. Such a naughty doctor you are, trying to strip me bare in public like that.” Aventurine pulled away just enough so he could unbutton Veritas’ shirt. Once it was hanging loose on the doctor’s shoulders, Aventurine took the opportunity to run his hands down the now exposed skin.

“That was… misplaced judgement on my end.” Hardly a real reason, but with Aventurine looking so beautiful under the moonlight, how was Veritas supposed to keep his hands to himself? The blond hummed at the flimsy excuse and pulled Veritas’ hands to the hem of his pants.

“Well, now you can do as you please.” Aventurine looked up at Veritas with a smile perfect enough to charm even the toughest of resolves. “Go on, my darling doctor. You were so eager earlier, don’t let up on me now.”

Veritas didn’t have to be told twice. He leaned down to capture Aventurine’s lips with his own as he fumbled with the buttons on the blond’s pants. Once they are undone they hung loosely on Aventurine’s hips, though not for long. Impatiently, Veritas pushed the offending garment down, letting them pool at Aventurine’s ankles. Left only in his shirt and briefs, Aventurine stepped back out of his pants to lead them both to the bed.

When his legs hit the edge of the bed, he lowered himself down while pulling Veritas with him. Now knelt above the smaller man, Veritas had a perfect view of how alluring Aventurine was splayed out beneath him. The loose shirt did nothing to hide the evidence of Veritas’ earlier assault with blooming bruises spread across once unmarked skin. He was completely enamored by the spark in Aventurine’s eyes, his sweet yet mischievous smile, and the way his hair fanned out in a golden halo against the bedsheets.

The rose was still neatly tucked behind Aventurine’s ear, adding an extra flair of beauty to the sight. To preserve the flower's fragile form however, Veritas reluctantly took it from its spot and placed it on the nearby nightstand. If given the chance, he’d like to preserve it as a memento of their date. Aventurine took advantage of the momentary separation to move up further on the bed, already shimming out of his underwear.

And he had the gall to call Veritas impatient. Simply irrational.

Veritas paused, looking over at the now nearly bare Aventurine, to which he swiftly looked away from before unprompted words had a chance to arise.

“Do you have—”

“Nightstand drawer.” The answer came before Veritas could finish the question. Well, he supposed it was obvious. He opened the drawer, eyes widening at the array of — ahem — various instruments of pleasure, and swiftly retrieved the singular bottle of clear liquid. Puzzled, Veritas looked — only looked, touching would be unsanitary — for other supplies. His glance over remained fruitless, and once again he turned to his awaiting partner.

“Do you not… have protection?” Veritas tried to be the least offensive with the question. He was merely curious. Still, it caused Aventurine to turn his head away sheepishly.

“Uh… no? I’m clean if that’s what you’re worried about.” Of all the things to forget about. Aventurine has never once brought a “date” home. He’s only entertained them at hotels that graciously supply everything he needs. It never occurred to him to have a supply at home considering he didn’t need any. “If um… it’s a problem we don’t need to go all the way. I’ve never brought anyone home before so…”

Sensing the rising doubt, Veritas made his way back to Aventurine’s side and placed a reassuring kiss on his cheek.

“Nonsense. I was asking more for your own comfort.” He leaned back against the pillows, beckoning Aventurine to follow. “Besides, that would be grossly underestimating how much I desire you.”

The smile returned to Aventurine’s face, and he crawled his way back into Veritas’ lap. The fabric of Veritas’ slacks was rough against his bare ass but it didn’t bother him. He was more relieved that the night wasn’t ending early.

Veritas was suddenly very aware of how clothed he was in comparison to Aventurine. The blond had nothing but his shirt on and was patiently awaiting for the doctor’s next move. Curious, Aventurine tilted his head at the lack of well… anything.

“You okay?” Aventurine’s voice pulled Veritas out of his brief stupor and he blinked up at him.

“Yes. Yes I’m fine. You’re just so captivating.” Really how is he supposed to focus when he has the most beautiful person he’s laid eyes on sitting so perfectly in his lap? He ran his hands up Aventurine’s bare thighs, watching how the muscle flexed under his palms. Aventurine leaned forward, bracing himself on Veritas’ shoulders as the doctor’s hands kept moving upwards. Quiet curses fell from the blond’s lips, his skin sensitive from the touch.

Aventurine was just so pretty.

So pretty with his parted lips barely a hairs length away from Veritas’, with his brows pinched together as hands went from his thighs to his ass, kneading the flesh in a way that made him squirm. Aventurine bit his lip as he arched his back, which was a mistake. He was so focused on Veritas’ touch he forgot his own painfully hard cock existed — well, at least until he arched forward and it rubbed uselessly against his partner's stomach. It was pathetic how such a simple motion made him lurch forward, nearly collapsing in Veritas’ arms. In his defense, Aventurine’s never been so sensitive to others touch before.

Veritas didn’t comment about it. He only watched every movement with interested eyes. Perhaps a small spark of sadistic flair instigated the next event. Without an ounce of warning, Veritas pulled Aventurine closer, using the hold on the blond’s ass to press him forward. This time a broken moan filled the room. Aventurine couldn’t help himself as he relaxed in Veritas’ hold, allowing the doctor to continuously grind his body against his own stomach.

The friction felt so good. He wasn’t sure when he started to weakly rut along with Veritas’ help, but soon, Aventurine was panting in the man’s ear. All while his dick was leaving sticky trails of pre-cum on Veritas’ stomach. He could easily stay like this, hell he could probably cum like this, but Aventurine wanted to make the most of their time together. It didn’t help that Veritas seemed fine with their situation. The least he could do was take off his clothes.

To speed things along, Aventurine took matters into his own hands by shoving Veritas’ undone shirt off his shoulders. That seemed to amuse Veritas enough to chuckle as he removed his hands from Aventurine’s body to shake off the rest of the fabric and tossed it onto the floor. His hands moved to go back to their rightful place on the blond’s waist but he was stopped before he could touch skin.

Sad, dejected eyes met Aventurine’s hazy gaze, and he almost allowed Veritas to continue. He couldn’t do that though. The show must go on and Aventurine was determined to make sure no more delays occurred. Now that he’s had a moment of respite, he slid back on Veritas’ thighs giving just enough room to work the zipper that was previously beneath him. With no hesitation Aventurine unfastened the pants and tugged at the now loose hemline.

There was no need for words when the message was clear. Veritas propped himself up enough for his pants to be harshly tugged down his legs. It was bemusing to watch Aventurine be so worked up. Even Veritas’ poor boxers didn’t stand a chance against Aventurine’s impatience. Though, now that he’s fully nude in the presence of that hungry expression, Veritas couldn’t help but feel oddly exposed. Maybe it’s because Aventurine still had his shirt on. Veritas reached out to rid Aventurine of it, but the blond slipped through his grasp in an instant.

Aventurine was now on all fours between his legs, shifting only to re-adjust his shirt to cover his shoulders again. It was a peculiar thing to witness, though Veritas didn’t press on the issue. Well, technically he couldn’t .

At least not when Aventurine was inching closer to his leaking cock and all Veritas could do is stare dumbly at him. A full body shudder ran through his body when Aventurine nuzzled against his inner thigh. As soon as those pretty eyes blinked up at him, Veritas knew he was too far gone. He reached out to cup Aventurine’s cheek. Despite being a little surprised at the sudden touch, Aventurine smiled, turning his head to kiss Veritas’ palm.

Veritas then moved his hand into Aventurine’s hair. Taking that as an invitation, Aventurine closed the rest of the distance between him and the cock before him. The second he was close enough, Aventurine didn’t hesitate with running his tongue along the length. He could feel the way Veritas’ hand tightened in his hair and the shuddering breath only encouraged him more.

Now Aventurine wouldn’t say he’s a professional at this, but he was certainly talented. There is an art to sucking cock, and it takes a lot of focus to pay attention to how his partner reacts and his own well being. Of course, when it comes to Veritas however, Aventurine is willing to do anything to impress the man. If that meant he had to put on a show, then so be it. Taking the head into his mouth, he glanced up at Veritas’ wide eyes and with a final, playful twirl of his tongue, Aventurine sank down.

There was a barely noticeable reaction from Veritas, but Aventurine picked up on the slight flex of the doctor's hand in his hair. He moaned around Veritas’ cock, swallowing more down before pulling back. His tongue flattened against the shaft, adding an extra layer of stimulation to every bob of his head. Whatever he couldn’t fit in his mouth he made sure to take into his hand. He didn’t want to leave a single inch unattended too. Veritas deserved the best performance.

Though Aventurine was becoming a little nervous, he didn’t expect Veritas to be so quiet . Besides a quick flex of his hand and an occasional gasp, Veritas wasn’t very responsive. Maybe the doctor was a silent lover, that would be a shame really but Aventurine supposed it wasn’t all that bad. He can make enough noise for the both of them if it came down to it. Aventurine glanced up again to find Veritas watching him with blown pupils and a pesky hand over his mouth.

Something clicked in Aventurine’s head, and he pulled off Veritas’ cock with a wet pop.

“Come now, Veritas, you better not be holding back on me.” His voice was a little rough, but that's to be expected after having a dick down his throat. The hand that was working the base of Veritas’ erection moved to stroke the entire length while Aventurine took this break. “Are you really being shy now?”

Veritas hesitantly removed his hand from his face.

“Not intentionally I just—” As Veritas was speaking, Aventurine squeezed a little harder and twisted his hand around Veritas’ cock. “ Fuck .”

Now that was a reaction Aventurine was willing to accept.

“Oh? Do you like that?” Aventurine smirked and repeated the motion several times until Veritas was near shaking under him. Without that pesky hand shielding him, Veritas couldn’t bite back every moan. A few moans slipped past his defensive nature, and Aventurine was delighted to finally hear Veritas’ voice. “See? That’s more like it. You make the most delicious sounds, Doc. Don’t hide them from me.”

“That’s not—” Another moan cut off his sentence and he glared down at Aventurine. Veritas took a deep, shaky breath and continued, “I fear if I let go, I will not last much longer.”

“Hmm? Is that really an issue?”

“Would that not be unfair to you? I don’t want to ruin your night by being…” a completely inexperienced imbecile — something Veritas would not admit outloud.

“You have strange priorities, Veritas. Do you think I’d leave you hanging after just one orgasm?” This was hardly a problem for Aventurine, but it was still fun to tease. “Well… unless you’re trying to imply your dick is a one and done deal. I’d find that far more embarrassing than cumming early.”

“How did you even come to that conclusion? Of course that’s not what I was implying.”

“Then relax. You have nothing to worry about.” Aventurine stopped stroking Veritas’ cock and pressed a kiss to the crown. “Now, I’m going to suck you off and you’re going to cum down my throat. Trust me, you’ll be hard again by the time you get to be inside me.”

Not waiting for Veritas to respond, Aventurine took the cock back into his mouth. Feeling more daring this time around, he pushed a little further, sucked a little harder and was rewarded with a deep groan. That’s good, Veritas wasn’t keeping to himself anymore. That gave Aventurine a little more confidence in himself as he made the choice to go all in.

Aventurine hollowed his cheeks, bobbed his head faster until he made Veritas into a blubbering mess above him. The hand in his hair tightened more, sending a pleasant tingle down Aventurine’s spine. He dug his nails into Veritas’ thick thighs, trying his best to keep himself steady. It was unbelievable how crazy he was over just sucking dick. Normally, it was a chore to him, but right now, he could do this forever. Aventurine couldn’t help himself. His hips were rocking against the mattress no doubt leaving wet patches on the sheets.

Everything about Veritas’ cock was addicting. From the weight of it on Aventurine’s tongue, the salty taste of pre steadily beading at the tip, and the way he could feel it twitch when he got the angle just right. Aventurine has never wanted to keep someone's cock down his throat as much as he does right now.

Maybe he was just addicted to Veritas already.

“Av– Aventurine , please.” The plea was paired with a weak tug of his hair. “l’m close.”

Aventurine nodded — the best he could at least — and pushed further down the shaft, swallowing it down to the base with a moan. Tears pricked at the corner of his eyes and he squeezed his eyes shut, forcing them to fall. When Aventurine looked up, face flushed red, eyes dewy with tears and his nose buried into dark curls at the base of Veritas’ cock, he knew it would be all that it took.

And it felt so good to be right . Aventurine felt Veritas’ cock pulse against his tongue, and seconds later, the feeling of hot cum hit the back of his throat. He did his due diligence and swallowed every drop, only pulling off when he was sure nothing was left. Aventurine gasped, catching his breath before he sat up and surged forward to kiss Veritas. The doctor flinched, probably due to the bitter taste of himself , but easily allowed Aventurine to lick into his mouth.

“You’re so perfect.” Aventurine’s voice was raspy from the lack of air, but it didn’t stop him from leaving light kisses along Veritas’ neck. He was still painfully hard and being wrapped in Veritas’ arms made him acutely aware of his arousal. Fully knowing Veritas was most likely still very sensitive, Aventurine couldn’t help but grind against his spent dick. Then the most delicious whimpers elicited from Veritas. Something that sent Aventurine straight to cloud nine. “Oh… fuck. Do you even hear yourself? You’re too much, too fucking much.”

Aventurine pulled away slightly just so he could see Veritas’ face. The red-orange eyeliner he wore was smudged due to a swell of tears that had fallen at some point. However, the thing that drew Aventurine in the most was Veritas’ eyes. They were shiny, framed by thick lashes, and they held an emotion that Aventurine could only be described as adoration . If he were to be honest with himself, it was all too much to accept such a thing. But when was Aventurine ever completely honest with himself?

“Veritas.” He smiled, expression softening and placing a soft kiss on the doctor’s nose. “How are you feeling?”

“Mmm… good.” Veritas lowered his head, nuzzling into Aventurine’s neck. The soft satin fabric of Aventurine’s shirt was smooth against his cheek. Why was he still wearing this shirt? “I want you.”

Aventurine took in a shaky breath at those words. If only Veritas knew how much that meant to him; how much Aventurine needed Veritas to want him. He was so caught up in his own thoughts, he didn’t realize Veritas was tugging his shirt up until the cool air hit his back. Flinching, Aventurine scrambled away, pulling his shirt back down in a panic. Immediately he regretted it. The confused and hurt look on Veritas’ face said more than enough.

“ Amica mea . Hey, look at me.” Warm, far too comforting hands cupped Aventurine’s face. “I should have asked, please forgive me. Are you okay?”

Just one look at Veritas’ face and Aventurine realized his mistake. Veritas wasn’t hurt , it was worse than that. It was guilt .

As Veritas pulled him into a hug, Aventurine had to swallow down the urge to run away. Instead he wrapped his arms tightly around the solid form holding him and buried his face in Veritas’ neck.

“Yeah it’s fine. I’m fine.” He’s really not but it wasn’t important at the moment. “It’s just really stupid.”

“I doubt that. Tell me.” Veritas’ fingers ran through messy blond hair. A gesture that had Aventurine melting into the man’s hold. He felt safe. There was only one shot at this, given how fragile this subject was for him. But for Veritas, he’ll do it.

“It’s ugly. My body, that is.” Pulling away, Aventurine scooted back a bit. It really was stupid, having to put distance between them so he could observe every reaction carefully. But all he could see on Veritas was more confusion.

“Aventurine. You’re beautiful.”

There was so much pure, innocent conviction in those words. It actually shocked Aventurine enough to laugh.

“Thank you, but that’s not what I meant.” He brought his hand to his neck, nails digging into his skin as he scratched at his brand. It was jagged under his fingertips, and he knew he shouldn’t be scratching, but Aventurine couldn’t help it. The damned thing burned; it always burns.

Then, just like earlier that day, his hand was gently pulled away from his neck. Seems as though the doctor had finally connected the dots.

“I will not judge you for your past, nor the wounds inflicted on you by it.”

“I know you won’t.” Aventurine shifted uncomfortably, his free hand picking at the hem of his shirt. “I don’t want you to be disgusted by me. Everyone who’s seen my scars gets turned off by them. Some even leave. I usually keep myself covered because of that.”

Veritas fell silent. The seconds ticked by at an agonizingly slow pace that had Aventurine’s mind filled with endless doubt.

For Veritas, however, it was almost like truly seeing Aventurine for the first time. He wasn’t sure how he never realized it before, but there were faint scars littered all across the blond’s body. There were thin lines across his thighs and arms; the area around his wrists and neck had the slightest hint of discoloration. Veritas had always seen Aventurine through a lens of idealized beauty. Someone who was inherently flawless in appearance. In the fault of his own ignorance, Veritas had missed such an important part of Aventurine’s true character.

Then Veritas broke the silence with the one inevitable question Aventurine dreaded him to ask.

“Are you comfortable enough to show me?”

“I don't know, but I want to.” Aventurine sighed and reached around Veritas to grab a pillow. He hugged it close to his chest, a self soothing habit he’s picked up over the years. “You won’t leave?”

“Of course not.”

“One more thing.” Aventurine looked up at Veritas, who’s eyes were filled with far too much understanding and care. “It’s… Kakavasha. My real name. Considering you’re about to meet the real me, you should know.”

Now stripped of all barriers, he turned around so his back faced Veritas. This was nerve wracking. How long has it been since he’s had the freedom to be that young Sigonian boy again? The last time he even heard his own name was when he met Jade for the first time, and it was cast aside that day.

He placed the pillow he was holding down and unbuttoned the rest of his shirt. With a deep breath, he shook the fabric off his shoulders, and it pooled in a puddle of red behind him. In front of him, the mirror he had hanging on his wall reflected both him and Veritas. He watched as Veritas’ eyes widened, his breath catching in his throat once the fabric was finally gone. This is one of the many time’s he wished he didn’t have a mirror on the opposite wall to his bed.

Nervousness seeped into his bones as the silence dragged on.

“Ah… this was a mistake. I should cover up again. I’m sorry.” He should have known. Not even kind, caring Veritas could handle looking at the mangled mess that was his back.

“Don’t.” Veritas’ voice startled him, even more than the instant reaction of strong arms wrapping around him. In the mirror, Veritas cautiously watched him. Like he was a fragile child. Maybe he was. “Kakavasha. You’re still so incredibly beautiful. Please don’t hide from me.”

Nothing about this man makes sense. Veritas was clinging to a hollow, tortured soul, and yet that same soul felt a spark of warmth return to it.

“Has anyone ever told you that you’re an odd one, Veritas?” Kakavasha smiled genuinely. He could do this.

“Hmm… more times than I can count.” Veritas kissed Kakavasha’s cheek. “But if that’s what loving you entails then I’ll gladly accept it.”

“Oh, and equally as sappy. Is this my life now?” If it was, he didn’t mind. He could get used to the romantic side of his dear doctor.

“If that's what you want.”

“I want you .” The words fell from his lips before he could stop them. “I mean… if you’re still up for it.”

In the view of the mirror, Kakavasha met Veritas’ gaze. The doctor was pensive, searching Kakavasha’s flushed face for any signs of… something? He really didn’t know what Veritas was looking for, but whatever it was, it was enough for the doctor to smile in response. A spark of hope shined in Kakavasha’s eyes, glad to know that the night wasn’t completely ruined by his own insecurities. He’s never felt safer, more loved than tonight and he couldn’t help that his dick was also happy about this turn of events. If being loved was a kink, then Kakavasha will have to figure out how to navigate that at a later date.

Veritas hummed, pulling away from their embrace to place a hand on the battered skin of Kakavasha’s back.

“Lay down for me.”

Kakavasha obeyed the request, allowing himself to be gently pushed onto his stomach. Once he was laying down, he hugged the previously discarded pillow as warm hands ran up and down his back. It soothed Kakavasha’s tension, every movement let it fade and he melted into the mattress.

A click echoed into the room, and the next second cold liquid dripped down the crevasse of Kakavasha’s ass. Veritas ran his hands up Kakavasha’s thighs relishing in the way the blond’s muscles flexed beneath his fingers. If it were up to him, Veritas would never take his hands off of Kakavasha. Unfortunately, his partner was impatient, whining at the slow, sensual touches as if they were offensive.

Veritas supposed they had derailed long enough, there was plenty of time in the future to treasure every part of Kakavasha’s body. After he coated his fingers, Veritas carefully pressed one into the awaiting hole before him. Kakavasha moaned as he rocked back against Veritas’ hand. Finally being filled with something after all this time felt so rewarding. Veritas watched, entranced by the way Kakavasha greedily swallowed his finger. As he added a second finger, he moved to lower himself along the blond’s back. Trapped beneath the solid weight of muscle, Kakavasha could do nothing more than whine as he was stretched open.

A kiss was placed against his brand, then the back of his neck, between his shoulders, then at random spots along his upper back. Kakavasha was so lost in the pleasure of fingers finally finding that sensitive bundle of nerves to connect what Veritas was doing at first. When he did, fresh tears stung at the corners of his eyes. Every kiss was actually methodical, pressed to each and every jagged patch of skin. Never once in his life had Kakavasha experienced such tenderness given to his scars; his head was swimming with ecstasy. A near overwhelming combination that would have broken him if it wasn’t for a third finger joining the others and a new wave of pleasure washed away his thoughts.

Kakavasha moaned into his pillow, doing his best to rock back on Veritas’ fingers despite the man practically laying on top of him. He didn’t want to rush Veritas, but he was becoming more and more impatient. He was stuck between wanting more and wanting to blissfully live in the moment of gentle kisses littering his back. Veritas’ mouth moved lower and lower, covering every inch of skin in attention. As the last scar was given its deserved kiss, Veritas moved away and removed his fingers.

At first, Kakavasha was disappointed in the sudden emptiness, but the sound of a bottle opening had his disapproving remark dying in his throat. A hand found its way on Kakavasha’s waist, thumb rubbing small circles into his hip. He held his breath as blunt pressure pressed against his hole. All the anticipation in his body simultaneously amped up and left his body. Veritas’ breath hitched as he entered Kakavasha slow and steady. Even though the glide was easy, Kakavasha was still so tight, Veritas had to will himself not to burst immediately. Falling forwards again, Veritas buried his face in Kakavasha’s neck, a whispered “ I love you ” was breathed into his skin.

For the moment, nothing happened. Both of them needed time to adjust, more because of the overwhelming connection between them than discomfort. Reaching behind him, Kakavasha threaded his fingers in Veritas’ hair. The action made Veritas lift his head and they locked eyes for a brief second before connecting their lips. Sweet and slow, their tongues barely interacting other than an occasional, lazy caress between their lips. Then, Veritas began to move. It wasn’t anything more than an experimental grind, but it had Kakavasha panting against the other man’s mouth. Veritas’ hands wrapped around Kakavasha’s waist to lift him up just slightly. The new angle had his cock hit even deeper and allowed him to pick up his pace.

Kakavasha clung to his pillow, the sheets, even the footboard of his bed trying to find purchase in something as his entire world erupted in burning pleasure. It was obvious Veritas was still inexperienced, not every thrust of his hips reached the same distance, even missing the blond’s prostate all together. His eagerness made him off rhythm, so desperate for the addicting feeling of Kakavasha he couldn't keep himself steady. But that was exactly what drove Kakavasha insane. Not only was he so desired by his lover — oh, he can say that now — he couldn’t do anything more than uselessly rut against him. The uneven, unpredictable thrusts made him dizzy with pleasure. Every motion was either spot on and made him cry out, or barely reached the deepest parts of him, and that made him crave it even more.

Behind him, Veritas was hanging on by a thread. Being inside of Kakavasha was a dream come true, but it was so overwhelming. He craved more, needed more. The only burning question was, What did Kakavasha look like right now? A split second decision had Kakavasha hoisted up by an arm now wrapped around his torso, his back hitting Veritas’ chest with a confused whimper. Now he was nearly upright on Veritas’ cock and it carved itself even deeper with each thrust.

“Gorgeous.” Veritas’ broken voice filtered into Kakavasha’s ear. Dizzy from the consistent assault to his prostate, the blond blinked away the building tears and as his vision cleared he could see Veritas watching him in their reflection. It was embarrassing to watch himself bounce on Veritas’ cock so he tried to turn his face away. Veritas didn’t allow Kakavasha to hide, his free hand not holding the blond up grabbed his chin and forced his face back to their reflections. “Look how perfect you are, mi vita .”

Tears welled up in Kakavasha’s eyes again as he did as he was told. Broken moans and whimpers fell in streams from his lips. And something unexpected happened. Kakavasha couldn’t even deny his lover's remark. He did look pretty. His body was adorned in love bites and bruises, a generous rosy hue was cast over his entire body accentuated by the thin sheen of sweat. His face was a depiction of temptation and desire with his parted lips and watery eyes. Why? Why did he like this view of himself? How can he deny anything when he was being held with so much love that made him feel genuinely pretty for the first time in his life?

“ Mmm … Veri— Veritas .” Kakavasha choked out this barely audible plea, desperately trying to focus on the rings of gold reflected back in the mirror. He’s pressed firmly against Veritas’ chest, but it’s not enough. “Please. I want… can I turn around? Need to face you. I want to see you.”

Veritas paused, sitting back to let Kakavasha easily adjust. Kakavasha awkwardly spun himself around, not even bothering to lift himself up as he settled into Veritas’ lap. For a moment there was only the sound of Kakavasha sniffling into Veritas’ neck. Fingers threaded into his hair, lightly scratching at his scalp. With a shaky breath, Kakavasha lifted his head to meet Veritas’ concerned expression. As the doctor parted his lips to speak, Kakavasha quickly stopped him with a kiss.

“I’m fine. Stop worrying.” He looped his arms around Veritas’ neck and gave an experimental roll of his hips. It was just enough stimulation to have Veritas groan as his head fell to Kakavasha’s shoulder. This gave an ample opening for Kakavasha to take the lead. He started slow, working his way up to a pace that had both of them moaning with every shift of his hips. Pleasure burned throughout Kakavasha’s body. The pace he had set for himself was perfectly hitting his prostate. As the familiar heat built up in his groin, he tangled his fingers into Veritas’ hair. “Close. So close.”

Taking that as a signal, Veritas wrapped his hand around Kakavasha’s cock. A pleaful whimper was the only protest the blond could muster, but it was ignored. Veritas was relentless, stroking the leaking length in his hand in time with the increasingly unsteady pace. Breathless moans filled the room until finally the invisible thread within Kakavasha snapped. His whole body tensed, arching in Veritas’ hold as he spilled all over their stomachs and Veritas’ hand. With a few pitiful whines, he rolled his hips to ride out the high before falling limp in Veritas’ arms.

Carefully, Veritas laid Kakavasha back onto the mattress. The blond was still recovering from possibly the best orgasm he’s ever had. Veritas soothed the tension in Kakavasha’s body with gentle hands massaging his sides and legs. By the time Kakavasha got his breath back, he was no longer trembling from post-orgasmic bliss. Happy with Kakavasha’s relaxed state, Veritas kissed his cheek and began to pull away. With surprising swiftness, Kakavasha pulled Veritas back and wrapped his legs around the doctor’s waist.

“Finish.”

Veritas blinked, then shook his head.

“You just–”

“I want you to.” Kakavasha’s body, despite being relaxed now, was still overly sensitive. Not that he cared much; he still wanted Veritas so badly. Defeated, Veritas sighed.

“You’re impossible.” He was far too weak for Kakavasha. Too weak, yet as he placed his hands on that slim waist and began to move again, Veritas was so grateful. Blessed with the sight of Kakavasha’s face twisting in pleasure beneath him, Veritas picked up the pace. The legs around his waist tightened, pulling him closer, deeper . Kakavasha was shaking with every thrust, his voice reduced to nothing but choked whines. The blond balled his fist into the pillow as his other hand pulled Veritas back down. Their foreheads connected, they didn’t get any closer, only staring into each other's eyes and their panting breath mingled in the space between them.

Veritas was reaching his end quickly. The tightening pressure around his cock every time Kakavasha clenched down on him was overwhelming. With the last remaining clarity he had, Veritas reached up, untangled Kakavasha’s hand from the pillow and intertwined their fingers. He didn’t last much longer than that. A few uneven thrusts later and he was burying himself as deep as he could go and liquid heat filled Kakavasha's body. Kakavasha’s free hand tugged at Veritas’ hair as he arched his back. Thin, watery spurts of cum joined the already drying mess on his stomach when another orgasm wracked through his still sensitive body.

Neither of them moved for a good few minutes. Veritas was nothing more than a weighted blanket on top of Kakavasha’s boneless form. The blond’s legs fell to their sides, and this time when Veritas moved to pull out, he wasn’t met with resistance. They both groaned when Veritas slipped free, and the doctor had to pause at the sight of his own spend dripping freely from Kakavasha’s hole. He shook his head, leaning back down to check on his beloved gambler.

Smiling, Veritas ran his thumb over a spot on Kakavasha’s face.

“You got some of my eyeliner on you.” The orange smudge faded beneath his thumb. Kakavasha hummed in response, tired and still a bit dazed.

“Does it suit me? I don’t think the color works as well on me as it does on you.” Kakavasha smiled up at his lover. Poor Veritas’ eyeliner was a disaster. It was smeared across his skin and patchy from sweat. “We’ll have to get you a smudge proof version. Though… I kinda like this wrecked look on you.”

Flushing, Veritas averted his eyes. Even after everything they just did, something that simple made him embarrassed. He was quick to recover though. Their mess was drying on their skin and the bedding needed to be changed. Veritas gathered Kakavasha in his arms and carried him into the on-suite bathroom.

Together they set up the shower — well, by together, it meant Kakavasha sitting in his bathroom lounge chair and directing Veritas to where he stored his various amenities. Once towels and pajamas were set aside, Veritas lead Kakavasha under the warm spray of the shower. He was determined to pamper Kakavasha well, lathering shampoo into his hair and rinsing it out carefully. Then, Veritas worked the expensive body wash across Kakavasha’s love bitten skin, adding to the experience by massaging his fingers into taut muscle. It was satisfying watching leftover tension melt away from Kakavasha’s body. Veritas made a mental note to do this more often to help relieve stress on the smaller man's body.

Of course, after Kakavasha was clean and well cared for, he insisted on returning the favor. Though not as deft with his hands, Kakavasha did his best scrubbing his beloved doctor’s skin. He even helped remove the ruined makeup around Veritas’ eyes. After he was done, Kakavasha finished his task with a well deserved kiss.

They stumbled out of the shower a few minutes later, drying off and Veritas helped Kakavasha into his sleepwear. Given that Veritas didn’t have any clothes besides the ones he came in, he made his way out of the bathroom to at least put his underwear on while Kakavasha left to get fresh bedding.

By the time Kakavasha came back, three tired catcakes in tow. Veritas had stripped the bed of the soiled sheets and set them aside. Kakavasha had to stop the three cats from hopping into the bed while they replaced the sheets. One even regained enough energy to chase the moving fabric and pulled the fitted sheet off a corner. A few scolding words later the new comforter was tossed onto the bed and Kakavasha joined it with a sigh.

The cats hopped onto the bed next, bombarding the blond with mews and tired licks to his hands. Kakavasha smiled, taking them into his arms and kissed each of their heads.

“You three may be trouble makers, but I love you guys so much.” He was so happy, and the catcakes seemed to pick up on that fact. They nuzzled into their owner's side as Kakavasha made his way under the covers. The bed dipped in weight and startled him. To his side, Veritas had joined him on his bed. “You’re staying?”

“I… I wasn’t planning on leaving you alone.” Veritas paused. Was he supposed to leave? “Unless you want me to go?”

Kakavasha shook his head and patted the space beside him.

“No! Stay please. I’m not used to people staying after…” Three sets of innocent eyes blinked up at Kakavasha as he spoke. He cleared his throat. “After activities .”

Bemused, Veritas chuckled at the careful wording. The cats were smart, it probably won’t take long before they realize the change in the pair's relationship dynamic. Such censorship was most likely useless against their intelligence, but it was cute to see Kakavasha try to protect them.

“I will stay for as long as you want.”

The lights were turned off and Kakavasha snuggled into Veritas’ side.

“Hmm… forever perhaps?”

“If that’s what you wish, then I will stay with you for eternity.”
