Chapter Text
Dazai and Atsushi had been keeping a secret from their coworkers. Nothing big or harmful. No. Rather embarrassing and something they would have been chewed out for. Their salaries were subpar and did not allow them to meet their needs. And, well, Dazai and Chuuya were dating, and Dazai was practically an older brother to Atsushi. And, by association, that meant Chuuya was safe. Maternal, almost, when they got closer. And, too Atsushi's dismay, Akutagawa also sought out Chuuya for comfort. They were, surprisingly or not, almost a family.
The ADA was having a normal day, which should have been the first sign. The office was quiet; mundane. Dazai was, for once, doing his work. There were no urgent cases that needed someone to go out for. The schedule that Kunikida had mentally assigned for everyone was being followed well. At that rate, the work day would be easy. They would finish early and be able to relax without too many reports to fill out or missions to attend to. Honestly, they should have seen it coming.
They should have been able to sense the two mafioso's approaching at the very least. Well, they normally relied on Atsushi's tiger abilities and his odd sense of smell and enhanced hearing. It allowed them to know when people were approaching. But Atsushi was, admittedly, not paying attention. His head was empty, filled with a warm cotton as he took a cat-nap on the couch in the agency, stretched out pleasantly in the patch of sunlight he found.
So, when Akutagawa and Chuuya, both part of the Port Mafia, the ADA's 'enemies,' waltzed in, everyone was on high alert. The detective sprung to their feet, ready to fight. But Chuuya only scowled and waved them off, eyes scanning for the two people he had come for.
"Dazai," Chuuya greeted, arms crossed over his chest as his eyes swept over the man. With a hum, he nodded and moved closer, Akutagawa following, a few steps behind as he trailed. The red-head sat on Dazai's desk and pulled out a bento from the bag he was carrying, offering it silently to the taller man.
His eyes scanned to Atsushi, who had woken up lazily at the noise of the detectives. While they didn't necessarily ruin his mood, it didn't help how his head was feeling. Luckily, having both his parents - no; not parents. (Parental figures. He sees them as parents. Guardians. They see themselves the same.) - having both in the room helped lull him back into a sense of security. He didn't even bother to be sassy and/or snippy with Akutagawa as per usual.
The presence of them was comforting, and against his better judgment, Atsushi had started chuffing. His ears and tail were out, the appendage waging languidly behind him as he stretched and laid on his stomach. He stared at the three with his pupils blown wide, blinking slowly as he regarded them. Chuuya simply smiled back and knelt down in front of the boy, running a hand through his hair slowly, as if to encourage the sounds.
And if the ADA were watching in confusion - unaware of their relationships. Unaware of what had brought it on, - no one brought it up. Not when Chuuya visited again the next week. Not when the Port Mafia and ADA met up for a temporary truce. Not when everyone was in the office. It wasn't any of their business. And if Yosano was the one who had threatened them to keep quiet, knowing the horrors of the Mafia and how the past could be haunting, well, that was her secret and her secret alone.
