The Catastrophic Effects of Flirting with Your Friends

Summary:

From what Steph told him, Bernard was a nice enough guy. A little boring, but nothing bad. Kon just didn’t get what Tim saw in him, somebody like Tim deserved more than some boring, no secret identity having, Physics and Biology major. Tim deserved… someone Super.

Sue him, okay? He’s had this crush for almost as long as he’d been alive- He’s allowed to be a little uppity about this whole thing.

(or kon gets jealous after hearing about bernard)

Notes:

i am a jealous kon enjoyer.

shoutout to radio again, the timkon fic requester.

Work Text:

Kon knew it was stupid it be mad about this. Tim wasn’t obligated to like him, it was fucked up to think like that. But…

My Clone Boy,

My Kon,

Was all of that really just platonic friend talk? They’d be friends for years, flirting with each other the whole way through. Kon had grown to really feel something for Tim, the kinds of feelings that hole their way into your heart and ache. An endless yearning for something that feels unsatiated until either it or you die. So yeah, maybe he did feel a little mad about this whole “Bernard” deal.

From what Steph told him, he was a nice enough guy. A little boring , but nothing bad. Kon just didn’t get what Tim saw in him, somebody like Tim deserved more than some boring, no secret identity having, Physics and Biology major. Tim deserved… someone Super

Sue him, okay? He’s had this crush for almost as long as he’d been alive- He’s allowed to be a little uppity about this whole thing.

Tim and Kon had been called on to take care of Metallo, he was rampaging through the outskirts of Boston. The pair had defeated Metallo before, it was actually how they met. Kon had thought pretty highly of the mysterious Robin after that, but it wasn’t until much later he’d get to know Tim, the man underneath the mask.

“SB, watch out!” Tim called out, snapping Kon out of his head. He had enough time to jump out of the way, one of Metallo’s arms rushing right past him. “Are you trying to get yourself killed?”

Kon flew down to Tim’s side, rolling his eyes a bit. Tim was fiddling with the EMP device, he’d noticed it was broken a little too late and now had to do some battlefield repairs. “I’m either going to die of Kryptonite poisoning or boredom before you finish that.” He said, his voice deadpan as Metallo smashed a building beside them.

“Could you just distract him before he blows me up?” Tim responded, not looking up at Kon as he worked. Kon’s heart stung.

“Bossy, bossy.” Kon responded, flying off again to keep Metallo occupied. Tim seemed particularly annoyed, mostly at himself for not checking the EMP before they left. Kon wondered why- It wasn’t the worst mistake anyone had made. Maybe he was busy tonight… Maybe he had a date…

Kon let out a frustrated sound, wishing he hadn’t even thought of it. Tim, sitting in a restaurant, dressed up all nice. He’s laughing at some dumb joke Bernard is making, it probably wasn’t even that funny. They’re talking about their interests, Bernard’s are all lame- Way too lame for someone like Tim.

Kon wanted to punch something. Thankfully, the large evil metal robot was still here. He swung at Metallo, fist hitting steel. Staying too close to Metallo for too long was dangerous, his heart was made of Kryptonite after all. As he went to fly off, Metallo grabbed Kon’s ankle, spinning him and throwing his back into a wall.

“Going somewhere, CloneMan?” Metallo asked, his voice grainy and well… metallic. Go figure. Kon pushed himself up, Metallo ‘helping’ by holding a tight hand to Kon’s throat. His feet didn’t touch the ground anymore, slowly being choked out.

He looked up, trying to see what progress Tim had made only to notice Tim had completely vanished. His stupid hateful brain conjured up images of Tim, tossing the EMP over his shoulder and packing up. Leaving Kon here to go on his dumb date with dumb Bernard.

Kon’s hands grabbed Metallo’s wrist, trying to free himself. Unfortunately, he’d now been in close contact for way too long, his super strength diminished. No wonder Tim left him here, he probably realized Kon was just some loser.

“Not so talkative now?” Metallo gloated, a weird creepy half smile half wrinkle growing on his face. Kon was probably going to die again and the last thing he was gonna see was Metallo’s ugly mug. Great.

“Nah- I’m more of the silent type.” Tim’s voice echoed out, him now somehow perched above the pair on a light post. He gave Kon a quick wink, pointing down at the blinking EMP device somehow attached to Metallo’s shoulder.

The blinking increased before a sonic blast echoed out, Metallo’s form falling into pieces and releasing Kon. “Geez- I hate Metallo.”

“You and me both.” Tim responded, rubbing the back of his neck. He let out a bit of a sigh, happy the fight was over.

“What’re you waiting around here for, Rob?” Kon asked, feeling bits of his anger bubble beneath the surface. “I’m sure you’ve got plans after this.”

Tim gave Kon a bit of a look, crossing his arms over his chest. “What’re you talking about?”

Kon turned his back, holding his tongue. “Busy guy like yourself.” Was all he managed to say, not wanting to accidentally put all his cards on the table.

“You sure Metallo didn’t hit you in the head? I’m not going anywhere.” Tim responded, genuinely a little baffled by Kon’s response. “Was there something you wanted to do?”

“No, no. You can go. Go hang out with Bernard .” Kon knew it was a mistake the second the words left his lips. They hung in the air for a moment, Tim’s jaw setting.

“Seriously?” He asked, sounding over it already. “I’m not talking about this here.” Tim said, signaling Kon’s attention to a nearby rooftop. A larger building obscured it from view well, they were still in uniform after all.

Kon grabbed Tim, gentle hands holding him bridal style before launching himself up, transporting the pair to the shadows. Tim pulled his mask off when they landed, his blue eyes piercing Kon’s. “Steph told you?”

“Duh- And the fact that I heard it from her and not my own best friend?” Kon stepped back, putting some distance between them. “It kinda stings. I mean, I want to know these things- Boyfriends, girlfriends-“

“He is not my boyfriend.” Tim cut in, his voice stern. “And that’s not what you’re mad about either.”

Damn Tim and his high IQ. And damn Batman too for teaching him all that detective shit. A man can’t even hide his thinly veiled crush on his best friend anymore.

Kon didn’t respond- He couldn’t! How was he supposed to tell Tim that the reason he was pissy was because he was in love with him. What the hell kind of reason was that? “Just forget it.”

“You wanna know why I didn’t tell you? ‘Cause it was one date.” Tim responded, crossing his arms over his chest as he watched Kon. “He was a guy I knew in college and I gave it a shot. It didn’t work out.”

“Why not? Steph said he was cool and that you liked him.” Kon asked, curiosity peaked as he mentally laid Bernard down. Didn’t have to worry about him anymore.

“There’s…. I’m interested in someone else.” Tim said simply, his face turning to look out over the city. “That’s all.”

Oh great. Now Kon was going to have to fight with Milton from Wayne Enterprises Accounting Department. Or maybe him and Steph were gonna get back together, although Kon could see her laughing Tim out of her apartment at the suggestion.

Kon looked back now noticing that Tim was staring at him. He had that look in his eye, the kind he gets when he picks up a clue on a case. “You… You’re- Are you jealous , Kon?”

Seriously, fuck Batman and his stupid detective training. “No? What would I be jealous of- That’s… C’mon Rob what’re you talking about?”

”No, you are.” Tim continued, stepping a little closer, his face no longer obscured by shadow. “Kon-El Kent- Do you like me?”

As he asked, Kon noticed the smirk growing on his face. Two possibilities; He was smiling because he wanted Kon to like him or he was smiling because he was about to make fun of him. “…So what if I do?” Kon heard Tim’s heartbeat pick up, doing some mental sleuth work of his own. “Do you… want me to like you?”

“I mean… I wouldn’t be opposed.” Tim said, suddenly much more nervous than he was before. “I mean, I’ve liked you for a while now.”

Kon’s heart nearly exploded. Like full on fireworks. “Really?” He asked, a little too excited. “Why didn’t you say anything?”

Me ?” Tim asked, face scrunching up as he made exaggerated gestures with his hands. “I didn’t even know you were into men! Why would I say anything?”

Hold up. Wait a minute. “Timothy. You thought I was straight?” Kon asked, looking down at himself to make sure he hadn’t been hallucinating his appearance for the better part of a decade.

“Okay, okay. When you say it like that-“ Tim cut himself off, running his hand through his hair. His eyes met Kon’s, blush rising into his cheeks. “Now what?”

“Well…” Kon walked up to Tim, putting an arm over his shoulder. Don’t mistake this as confidence, he was shaking like a rabbit. “We could kiss?”

“No.” Tim said, his quick response hurting Kon for a moment before Tim grabbed his other hand. “I’m not having our first kiss in Boston.”

“Oh, well then.” Kon said, a grin slipping onto his face. “Where would you like to go?”
