The Judge

Summary:

A woman’s encounter with a testy attorney has consequences far beyond what she (or anyone else) can imagine.

Work Text:

Dear Louise,

I know you don’t know who I am, but I know you work with Maurice, and I think you deserve to know just what kind of man you’re working with every day.

When Wendell became the city attorney, I was twenty-five. I visited City Hall to ask about a records request. Some loud bitch told me where his office was. He greeted me politely and let me in, asked how I was doing—for about ten minutes, it was totally normal. I didn’t realize Maurice was already in his sixties. Even now, I can be objective and say he looked (and still looks) pretty good for sixty-something. Then, Maurice got up to shut the door. He locked it. I thought that was weird.

He walked back to his desk, and he said, “Just who in the fuck do you think you are?”

I was stunned. I didn’t know what to say.

He kept going: “Look at ya. Witcha tiny little teeth.”

I asked him what he meant.

“Suck my judicial cock, bitch.”

I shrugged and thought to myself, Well… I mean, he did used to be a judge, so I started sucking his cock—why the hell not, honestly, it’d been a day—but the whole time he was looking for something on his desk and cursing under his breath because he couldn’t find it.

He pulled my hair and said, “Call me Your Honor, you ungrateful slut.”

“Your Honor.”

And he came so hard I thought I was being waterboarded. “Case dismissed.”

Just then, his (much younger) wife Tess walked in and said, “Hey, Pookie, you want a Gatorade or something?”

“Oh, no, I’m fine, sugar. Thank you, though.”

“Any time.” She walked out of the room.

Maurice turned his attention back to me. “I can’t believe you admitted to a murder. I cannot believe you just admitted to a murder. How could you be so cruel?” And he kicked me out of his office.

Tess was still in the hallway. She chuckled and said, “Men, am I right?”

I’ve been in prison for six months now, awaiting my trial for murder in the first degree. The victim? Beats the hell outta me. No lawyer will take my case. The district attorney made fun of me and said I should go fuck myself. I need your help. I need the truth to come out.

Please.
