Nazis were, in fact, punched.

Summary:

When Shinso saw two of his classmates do certain gesture from the 1940s, it filled him with rage. When he talked to his dad, Present Mic, his response was to tell him “It’s okay to punch Nazis” and so he did.

Work Text:

It was a Thursday. The first in the month of January. Shinso had just walked into advisory and taken his seat when saw two of his classmates standing. He didn’t think much of it, it was early after all. Aizawa hadn’t let him have any coffee this morning, something about needing to sleep more (hypocritical much?), so he was still quite groggy.

He watched them, not exactly having much else to do at the moment. That was a… strangely firm stance. They both had their feet together, arms at their sides, and backs straight, facing each other. Certainly odd… but dismissable.

The two classmates had brought their right hands up to their chests, making a fist over their heart. What was this, some secret handshake? Shinso was too tired for this today, and he had a worksheet he had to finish before the next class period. That would probably be less of a time waster than watching his classmates go through their little friendship gesture.

Just before he turned to unzip his bag and grab his assigned work, he saw something that made him freeze. That was NOT a friendship gesture. Not at all! He was certainly awake now. Did they not know what that meant? But that looked pretty deliberate! Should he say something?

Shinso looked around the room. Surely other people must have seen that! But Present Mic, his dad and advisory teacher, wasn’t in the room yet, and all the other students seemed to be going about their days as usual. Was nobody else bothered by this!? He wanted so bad to do something, to wipe that sick smile off their faces.

Not to be Draco Malfoy, but his fathers will be hearing about this.

      ----------------------------------

The rest of the school day had been rather uneventful (thankfully), but Shinso still couldn’t shake the rage that had been following him all day. The bus ride home was spent seething, and when he finally arrived back home he slammed the door behind him and went straight to his room.

Aizawa, who had been sitting at the kitchen counter reading with a cup of coffee off to the side (again, hypocrite), looked up at the sound of a door slamming.

“Well someone clearly had a bad day.” He muttered to himself. He was sure that the teen would talk to him about it if or when he was ready, so he gave him time to himself, opting to not bother him about it yet.

A few hours later, Hizashi returned from the recording studio where he hosted his talk show. He saw his husband slumped over a pile of papers on the counter. Again. Discarding his shoes at the door, he made his way over and placed a hand on Aizawa’s shoulder.

“What did Midoriya break this time?” He asked.

Aizawa picked up his head, blinking like a disgruntled cat.

“The problem child has discovered the fact that he can apparently break his sternum. I honestly don’t know how he did it, but either way he’s definitely banned from training for the next three days. His complete lack of self preservation is concerning, and he needs to learn to value his life more. But enough about that, I think something happened with Hitoshi at school.”

“Oh? Why’s that? Where is he?” Hizashi asked as he got out a few pans and food items to make dinner.

“Well as soon as he got home he went to his room, and he’s been sulking in there since then.”

“Isn’t that… normal? For Hitoshi at least.”

“Yeah, but he just seemed more upset and tired than usual.”

“Hmm…” Hizashi responded, while he mixed ingredients together.

After a bit, the food was shoved into the oven and a timer was set. Hizashi went to sit next to Aizawa while he waited, and the two sat in silence for a while. That’s how Aizawa knew his husband must have been thinking, it was never quiet with him around.

Before long, the oven timer screeched at them, startling Aizawa right as he was about to drift off again. Hizashi hummed as he pulled the food out of the oven, the scent of a good meal wafting through the house.

He took a deep breath in, and then Aizawa promptly slapped a hand over his mouth.

“No yelling. We don’t want another noise complaint from the neighbors.”

“Fine.” Hizashi said, a disappointed expression on his face.

“I’ll get him, you just set the table.” Aizawa said as he walked off towards Shinso’s room with a wave. He received a wave and an “Alright!” in return.

Down the hallway, he could see the room marked with lavender colored cut out paper letters, spelling out Shinso’s name. He sighed before lifting up his hand to knock three times.

“Hey kid, dinner’s ready.”

The door opened, and Shinso stood there, his gaze pointed upwards slightly to make eye contact with Aizawa. The two looked uncannily similar. Same eye bags, same posture, same lifeless stare. An onlooker may even think it was just a mirror there if it weren’t for the different outfits and hair.

Neither of them said a word, just staring at each other for a moment. Shinso had put on his purple cat hoodie, the one with little ears on the hood. Aizawa took this as another sign that something was wrong, why else would he be wearing his comfort sweater?

Aizawa turned back to the hallway and started walking back to the kitchen, motioning for his adopted son to follow him, which he did. The two rounded the corner in silence, making their way to the table. They took their respective seats, and Hizashi came over with a baking pan full of food.

“Soooo… How was everybody’s day!” He said, setting the dish in the center of the table and sitting down.

Aizawa responded with a grunt, while Shinso just muttered a quick “good.”

In other words, same as usual.

Hizashi hummed, and the three of them took turns scooping food onto their plates. Dinner went as it usually did, with Hizashi talking about his day teaching and radio hosting, complete with over the top hand motions as story aids, while Aizawa and Shinso listened and nodded along.

After a while, Aizawa rose from his seat and said, “If you’ll excuse me, I need to use the bathroom.”

Hizashi nodded, and he walked off. It was just Shinso and Hizashi at the table now, and after a few moments of poking at his food, the purple haired teenager chose to speak up.

“Hey dad, what am I supposed to do if I see someone do the ‘roman salute’?”

Hizashi, clearly caught off guard, dropped his fork and suddenly got serious. “If you EVER see somebody make that gesture, I want you to remember two things. One, it’s okay to punch Nazis. And two, if you happen to ‘accidently’ smack your fist into said person’s face, chances are I will be conveniently looking away. If I don’t see it, how am I supposed to report it?”

Shinso smiled to himself and responded with, “Thanks. I’ll keep that in mind.”

When Aizawa got back from the bathroom, he saw Shinso’s expression.

“A smile? That’s rare.” He said.

Shinso’s response was a simple sentence, “I think tomorrows going to go great.”

Based on that ominous reply, paired with Hizashi’s mischievous grin, Aizawa decided he didn’t want to ask for an elaboration.

      ----------------------------------

The next day, Shinso found himself almost excited to go to school. When he got to advisory, he sat in his seat and pulled out a coffee he snuck into his backpack. Mic actually made it to class on time as well today, having skipped his usual chat in the teacher’s lounge.

Somehow, having a teacher in the room didn’t deter the idiots in his class. They stood up, exactly how they had the day before, and again brought their hands up to their chests in a fist. But this time, Shinso didn’t sit by and watch.

Before they could even complete the motion, he was on them. One receiving a quick twist punch to the nose, and the other a side kick to the stomach. Caught off guard, the two didn’t have time to counter and reeled from the attack.

The purple haired boy looked up to the teacher’s desk, where Mic was humming to himself with a smile, eyes focused on the papers on his desk. Shinso smiled too.

A hand gripped his shoulder, and he quickly wheeled around, grabbing them by the wrist. It was the person he’d punched in the nose, a stream of red now pouring from the injury.

“Are you okay?” Shinso asked.

“No I’m not you dipshi-”

Shinso interrupted, “Kneel against the wall and keep this visible.” using his quirk to brainwash his classmate and slapping a post-it note onto his forehead that said “anti-semitism is not okay.”

His order was immediately obeyed, and he turned to the other one.

“And you, what makes you think that was okay?”

“Well I-”

“Join him.”

Another post-it was slapped onto their forehead, to match their friend. Shinso looked down at the two of them, and spoke.

“Do you understand what that motion means? Do you know how many people were hurt by the person that gesture shows allegiance to? I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt this time and assume the answer is no, but you best believe that if I EVER see you do that again, I won’t let you off so easily. Do I make myself clear?”

He didn’t expect a response, with them being brainwashed, but he took their silence as a yes and returned to his seat. He had no intention of letting them get up for the rest of the class period.

He looked around the classroom, making eye contact with a girl with brunette hair sitting in the front row of seats. She was staring at him with wide eyes, and her mouth slightly opened.

Come to think of it, Hitoshi hadn’t really considered that someone could have seen that fight out of context and made assumptions. That was certainly not good.

The girl raised her hand, which Mic ignored. When she wasn’t called on, she chose to go ahead and speak anyway, standing up and clearing her throat.

“...yes?” Present Mic said, knowing he couldn’t ignore her forever.

“That boy just hit people! Aren’t you going to do something about it?”

“What people?”

“The one with the money quirk and the one with the jumping quirk!”

“Nobody in this class has a money or jumping quirk.”

“Yes they do! They’re sitting against the wall right now!”

“I don’t see anybody.”

“Right there!”

“Maybe you should go see Recovery Girl, you probably hit your head. There has never been a student in this class with either of those abilities.”

“Wha- but-”

“Would you like me to write you a pass?”

She chose not to respond, sitting down with a huff. But it was clear she was beginning to question if what she saw actually happened or if she was losing her grip on reality. Who knew Mic was so good at gaslighting?

The rest of the class passed blissfully uneventfully, but when it was over Shinso did receive a pat on the head from Present Mic before he left the classroom. He released his quirk, and it’s safe to say those two students never tried to pull that stunt ever again.
