The celestial family falls on foreign, soft grass with a collective ‘oof’, a soft breeze trailing across their bodies as it blows the grass to the side. Sun is the first to open his eyes, blinking open his eyes and surveying the new surroundings around them. Confused, he turns to Moon, before he squeals. “ Are you supposed to look like that?! “ He asks, and Moon looks confused before he looks down at himself. In his new form, he’s got black limbs and his body is.. An inanimate nightcap, the same one he has back home. He stares at himself in confusion before he turns to Sun, opening his mouth to speak before closing it again. “ Moon? “ Sun asks, and Moon coughs. “ Sun, don’t panic but.. Uh.. “ Moon looks around to the group, slowly all taking in their surroundings. Some seem to be taking to this new form better than others, but Eclipse seems absolutely irritated out of his mind.
“ We.. may all be inanimate objects- For now. Only for now! “ He puts his hands up defensively, as Sun starts to fidget with anxiety. Dazzle runs over to Sun, her new form a sunflower seed with a small sproutling cracking out of the top, with Jack behind her, now a Jack-O-Lantern.. No surprise there. A small smile cracks at Sun’s lips, seeing Dazzle a SUNflower seed.. She really is like his kid, isn’t she? But he shakes it off, concerned. “ Dazzle! I told you not to follow us! “
Dazzle giggles, “ But Jack said we could come as a secret! And look! You’re glitter glue, your favorite! “ Dazzle points at Sun, who looks down at himself properly for the first time to realize she’s absolutely right. Jack snickers, and Solar, overhearing the conversation, turns to look at Jack. “ Jack, what did I say about getting Dazzle into trouble? You’re grounded after.. This. Whatever this is. “ Moon turns to look at Solar, glaring at him. “ You’re telling me you don’t know where we are? “
Solar shook his head, his new form was a toolbox, the same red one he had back at home. At least he still had his goggles and gloves.. Maybe because he had taken them with him in case they were needed on their mission. “ I wouldn’t ever take us anywhere without a portal- “ “ THERE’S NO PORTAL?! “ Sun yelled, now panicking. “ Without a portal, there’s no way home! We’re stuck here! How are we going to get HOME, SOLAR?! “
Earth, now a floating earth with clouds surrounding her, the same black arms everyone else had, and her same rainbow bandana, glides over to Sun, putting a hand on his back in an attempt to soothe him. “ Calm down, Sun, deep breaths. I’m sure there is a way out of this. “ Sun looks to Earth with an appreciative expression, leaning just slightly into her touch. Dazzle puts her tiny arms around Sun’s side, now scared too with Sun’s anxious outburst. Jack turns to look at his father, Solar, a bit uncertain. Solar can only return the look.
Eclipse steps up, his voice low and agitated. “ You’re telling me you dragged me here with you to the middle of nowhere, with no way home? You’re fucking joking. “ He crosses his arms, his new form similar to his faceplate back home, besides for his rays being real rays now, and looking more like an actual eclipse. Earth beckons for him to come to her, an offer of comfort but he shakes his head. “ Don’t even try comforting me, this is ridiculous. I have a LIFE, you know? “
Lunar, his new form a candy similar to the ones they have at home (a lunardrop?), frowns at Eclipse. “ You think we don’t? We’re ALL stuck in this together, Eclipse, not everything is just about you. I can’t even use my powers! Which MIGHT have been able to get us home! “ Eclipse grumbles in discontent, but shuts his mouth as Moon and Solar discuss for a bit. “ I think, we’ll just have to stay here until we can build a new portal. But it shouldn’t be too long.. “ Solar speaks, “ hopefully. “ he adds. “ For now, we should look for shelter. “ Moon says, and the group nods, setting off through the field.
“ Make sure to stick together, don’t run off, “ Sun instructs, but it’s more so meant for the kids than it is for the rest of them. Moon and Solar lead the way, and Earth tries to scout the distance for any possible shelter they could use in the meantime. “ I hope we can find more people, hopefully smart ones who have some resources we could borrow.. We can always pay it back after the fact. “ Solar mutters. “ Or we can just steal it, “ Lunar suggests, but is quickly shut up by an unamused huff from Earth. “ Nuh uh! Stealing is bad! “ Dazzle pipes up, “ I steal all the time. “ Jack shrugs.
“ Well, Solar, you might be in luck, I see a cabin! Right over there by the shore! “ Earth points in an undeterminable direction, leading the group behind her. “ What if it’s abandoned? “ Sun points out, worry lacing his voice. “ Then at least we have better shelter than a cave all to ourself, “ Moon scoffs, and once the group gets through the field, they get a better view of the cabin.
It’s brown, simply made, and looks well lived-in. The beach behind it has waves gently rocking back and forth, and Dazzle and Jack squeal before running up to play in the sand, Sun sighing and following behind to watch them. “ Well, Sun’s watching the kids, what do we do? Just knock on the door? “ Solar asks Moon. “ Well, we don’t want to make any enemies just yet, jackass. “
Solar scoffed, “ Whatever, just do it already. “ They walked up onto the porch together, knocking on the wooden door. Earth watches from a little ways off with Lunar, just in case things go badly. After a few moments, some rustling around behind the door is heard, and it opens to reveal.. A fire object? Or- just fire? How do you even describe this dimension..
“ Who the heck are you guys? “ The stranger looks at them with blatant confusion. “ How did you even get here? We’re not interested in competitions anymore, sorry. “ Solar and Moon exchange a quizzical look before they turn back to the stranger. “ Um, no, we’re not here for that.. “ Solar starts, before Moon interrupts him. “ We’re homeless, can you help us? “
Solar looks at Moon with a deadpan face before he sighs. “ We’re not,, from this place. We got uh.. Teleported here. Do you happen to know where we are? “ The stranger stares at them, before suddenly someone behind him speaks up. “ Who’s that?! Visitors?! “ The stranger steps to the side, revealing another person- object-? Who’s a leaf. “ I’m Leafy! And that’s Firey! “ Leafy introduces themself and their friend, and Solar lets out a sigh of relief, feeling a little less tense with introductions.
“ I’m Solar, “ Solar says, “ And that’s Moon, “ Solar points to Moon, beside him. “ We’re just wondering if you have any idea about where we are right now. “ Solar asks, and Leafy nods. “ Yup! You’re on Dreamier Island! Me and Firey found it ourselves!! “ Leafy looks proud of herself, and Moon nods. “ Do you know what dimension this is? Like, the dimensional code. “ Leafy and Firey exchange a look for a moment before shrugging. “ Nope! “ Leafy says.
Moon groans, obviously this is not the answer he wanted to hear. He can’t even pinpoint how far off they are from their own dimension, he can only assume its a far ways off.. How did this even happen? “ Ouh, seems like you guys have it rough! I thinkkkk i know someone who can help ya, but they’re a loong ways away! “ Solar looked up to the leaf, “ How far? “
“ Not sure! “ She replies, “ But we might be able to take you there tomorrow! It’s getting pretty late right now, “ Leafy says. “ One small problem. Wee… don’t have anywhere to stay. “ Moon mutters, and Firey looks at them for a second before speaking up. “ How did you say you got here again? “ Moon and Solar look to each other again before Solar coughs. “ We.. teleported here. “ Firey nods, taking their answer- albeit skeptically. Hasn’t weirder happened? Yeah, definitely.
“ Yeah, we definitely know someone who can help you! All science-y and stuff, yup! You can uhh,, stay here with us for the night if ya need to! “ Leafy offers, and Firey reluctantly agrees. “ It’s just you two, right? “ Solar looks to the side, before calling over the others. “ What the- “ Firey looks at the group before him. “ We can’t fit all of you! We- “ Leafy interrupts him, shushing him. “ They don’t have anywhere else, Firey! We can’t just leave them outside all night, right? “
Firey groans, before he agrees. “ Fine, but just tonight and then we’re getting you all the help you need, “ Firey shrugs, and retreats back into their house. Dazzle squeals, running into the house only to get scolded by Sun for not being respectful for being a guest in someone else’s house. It’s a bit chaotic, but they eventually settle down for the night.
As the sun goes down, everyone eventually curls into a pile on the couch, the fireplace running to keep them nice and warm. As Sun drifts off, he finds himself in a weird room. Blinking his eyes to unblur them, he takes in his new surroundings once again.
“ Hiiyyaa, Sun! You’re in quite the situation, aren’t you? “ Sun squeaks at the female voice, turning around to see a.. Blue-ish number one in front of him? Doesn’t seem to have any arms, though, “ W-what? Who are you? What do you want? “ Sun asks, more questions spilling out in his anxious state. “ Caalmm dowwnnn,, “ One rolls her eyes, sitting down in a seat across him. “ Sit down, relax! I’m not here to hurt you, i’m here to help! My name’s One, “ Sun gives her a skeptical look, before he hesitantly sits down in the seat across from him. “ I’m Sun, “ She seems to have some tea, and offers Sun a cup. “ U-um, no thanks, “ He declines, and One nods, taking the answer.
“ So, not from here, are you? “ She asks, and Sun nods. “ How’d you know? “ One laughs, “ Don’t worry, it’s easy to tell. Not many have names not like their objects, huh? “ Sun realizes she’s right, and sighs. “ Yeah. I don’t know how we’re going to get home, there’s no portals back, nothing! “ One only smiles at the turned object in front of her. “ Hey, no need to worry, I might be able to help you out! “ One chirps, setting her teacup to the side. Sun’s eyes light up, a small smile on his face. “ Really? Thank you-! “ Before Sun can finish his praises, One gives Sun a smirk as she cuts him off. “ For a favor. “
Sun looks torn for a moment, “ What kind of favor? What do you mean? “ One waves him off with one of her paws, “ Nothing too big, don’t worry! Just.. sign this contract, and we have a deal. I’ll get you where you need to go, and you owe me a favor later.. That’s it! “ Sun looks at the blue glowing contract before him, One must have magic of some sort. “ You.. You’re sure? This isn’t going to be something I regret, right? “ Sun asks.
“ Not at all. It’ll be as easy as your a-b-c’s, trust me! Do I look like the type to deceive, really? “ Sun shakes his head, hesitantly reaching out to sign the contract.
If only he’d read the fine print.
