Work Text:
Law is not used to this.
Your hand casually rests on his arm as you lean in to show him something on a map, your fingers warm through the fabric of his coat. It’s nothing but just a simple touch. Yet his muscles tense like you just set him on fire.
He scowls, barely sparing you a glance “Can you not?”
You blink at him, head tilting “Not what?”
He shifts, crossing his arms tightly over his chest, as if that will protect him from your casual affection “Touch me like that. It’s… distracting.”
You snort “Distracting? It’s just my hand, Law.”
“Exactly…” he mutters, looking away.
You don’t miss the faint pink dusting his cheeks and ears. It’s cute. Ridiculously cute, considering he’s supposed to be this terrifying pirate captain. But you don’t push… at least, not yet. Instead, you just hum and let the moment pass.
But you don’t stop.
Over the next few days, you keep doing what comes naturally to you. A pat on the shoulder when he does something impressive, a hand on his back when you walk past him, a casual lean against him when you’re all gathered around on the Polar Tang discussing plans. Each time, Law stiffens. Each time, you see that flicker of surprise in his golden eyes, like he can’t understand why you keep touching him.
Until, slowly, he starts breaking.
It happens when you least expect it. You’re sitting on the deck, watching the waves, when Law sits down beside you, and not at a distance, not with space between, but close. His coat brushes against your arm. He doesn’t say anything, doesn’t even look at you.
You grin, deciding to test your luck. You lean into him, resting your head against his shoulder.
For a moment, he’s as still as a statue. You half-expect him to push you away, to grumble something about personal space. But then a long, heavy exhale, like he’s been holding it in for far too long. His shoulders relax under your touch, and when you shift slightly, you feel him lean back into you.
Your heart melts “See? Not so bad, right?”
He grumbles something under his breath, but he doesn’t move away. Instead, after a long pause, he mutters, “Don’t get used to it.”
You grin “Too late.”
And when you lace your fingers through his, he squeezes back.
Later on not much change.
You touch Law casually, so naturally because that’s how you are, and sadly for Law you do it unconsciously even in front of the crew. And every time, without fail, Law’s reaction is hilarious.
Like the time you casually ruffle his hair after a strategy meeting. Bepo gasps audibly. Shachi and Penguin nearly choke on their drinks. Law? He freezes, ears burning red, before grumbling “I’m not a damn pet, Y/N.”
Or the time you loop your arm through his while walking through a town. He stiffens like you just announced you’re engaged, and the crew watches in barely-contained amusement as he tries to play it cool and fails spectacularly.
Then there’s the best one yet… when you hug him from behind while he’s at his desk.
A perfectly innocent gesture, really. You’re just draping your arms over his shoulders, peeking at the map he’s been studying for hours. But the way Law’s breath hitches? The way his whole body tenses like he’s been caught committing a crime? Priceless.
Shachi whistles “Captain’s gonna short-circuit.”
Penguin nudges Bepo “Five berries he tells Y/N to get lost in three seconds.”
But then, Law does what no one expects… he just sighs and keeps writing.
No snapping, no grumbling, no pushing you away. He just lets it happen.
The room goes dead silent.
“…Captain?” Bepo ventures cautiously, eyes wide.
Law barely spares them a glance “What?”
Penguin gestures wildly at the two of you “Uh, are we just—pretending this is normal now?”
You grin, tightening your arms around Law’s shoulders “Guess he got used to me.”
The crew loses their minds.
“Since WHEN?” Shachi demands “You were acting like Y/N was stabbing you every time they even just tapped your shoulder!”
“People adapt” Law says simply, flipping a page in his book.
Your smile turns smug “He doesn’t just tolerate it now… he likes it.”
The moment you say it, you can feel Law roll his eyes. But instead of denying it—instead of pushing you away like he always does—he reaches up, grabs your wrist, and pulls you down into his lap.
Shachi drops his drink.
Penguin screeches.
Bepo’s jaw literally falls open.
You’re too stunned to even process it as Law leans back against his chair, keeping an arm around your waist like it’s the most normal thing in the world. He’s not flustered. He’s not grumpy. If anything, he looks smug.
You blink “Did you just—”
“You started it,” Law says lazily, tapping his pen against the paper “Now deal with the consequences.”
The crew is in shambles.
Shachi shakes Penguin by the shoulders “Bro, I think we lost our captain.”
Penguin is staring at Law like he just grew two heads “Who are you, and what did you do to Trafalgar Law?!”
Meanwhile, Law just goes back to writing, perfectly unbothered, while keeping you firmly in his lap.
The crew is still freaking out, voices overlapping in sheer disbelief.
“Okay, seriously, what the hell is going on?!” Shachi waves his arms around “Is this a prank? Are we in an illusion? Bepo, slap me—”
“Gladly…” Bepo says, raising a paw.
Before he can, a familiar blue glow fills the room.
“Room.”
In an instant, the crew vanishes, teleported right out of the studio.
You barely have time to process what just happened before Law tilts your chin up and kisses you.
It’s not hesitant. Not shy. Just slow and deliberate, like he’s been waiting for this moment for far too long. His hand lingers at the back of your neck, keeping you close, while his lips move against yours.
When he finally pulls back, there’s a rare smirk playing on his lips.
“They were getting annoying” he murmurs.
You’re still a little dazed, staring at him “You… you teleported them just to kiss me?”
He hums “They’re just outside the room, not in the sea.”
Outside, you can hear the distant shouting of Shachi and Penguin pounding on the door.
“LAW, YOU CAN’T JUST ROOM US OUT BECAUSE YOU WANNA MAKE OUT—”
“OPEN THE DAMN DOOR, CAPTAIN—”
Bepo’s voice is more resigned “I’m happy for you both, but this is getting out of hand.”
You giggle, resting your forehead against Law’s “You know, they’re never gonna let you live this down.”
His thumb brushes against your waist “Let them talk.”
He kisses you again.
