Work Text:
“han hyeongjun!”
he swivels his head around and towards the voice he is oh-so familiar with. no matter how many times he sees oh seungmin for the first time it still makes his heart surge every time.
the roads are frosty and yet there’s brave souls on cars driving on the street that separates them. so hyeongjun plants his feet on the ground and sends the man across the street a small wave.
there’s a flurry of movement as seungmin waves both hands back then sends a flying kiss. they are intrinsically linked so hyeongjun doesn’t wonder if his blush is due to the cold. he knows the tint on his cheeks is thanks to the few strangers that glanced at him when he screamed out.
when the file of passing cars finally dies down, seungmin is the first one to step foot on the asphalt. he’s already halfway across the walkway when he decides to look both ways, hyeongjun smiles at that.
seungmin locks eyes with him once there’s only a few feet between them and frowns.
“it’s freezing.” he says, removing his scarf.
hyeongjun smiles. “it’s a five minute walk to the studio.”
“still a musician then?” he asks, wrapping his own green scarf around hyeongjuns’ neck. he replies with an affirmative hum.
hyeongjun takes seungmins’ features in. like he has in every lifetime before this one, like he hopes to do in every lifetime after. he remains the same, beautiful and charming. his outfit is fashionable, as usual for him but it doesn’t give hyeongjun any clues, so he asks.
“what are you doing this time?”
seungmins’ hand moves to tuck a loose hair strand behind hyeongjuns’ ear.
“stylist, usually,” he smiles. “head of costume for a theater, for now.”
there’s a pause. there’s always a pause after they first meet. hyeongjun figured a few lifetimes ago that they probably look insane smiling without speaking but it doesn’t matter. they take each other in, rest in the space they share.
seungmins’ eyes shift away, “did you miss me?”
hyeongjun smiles bigger. taking the initiative that seungmin is waiting for him to take and intertwines their hands. he pulls him along to walk.
“i always do.” he turns to him, nose red, “you have anywhere to be?”
seungmin shakes his head. “was on my way home, so no.”
they walk hand in hand. by the way seungmins’ eyes dart around the buildings hyeongjun assumes he’s unfamiliar with this side of the city. he takes note of that and changes his direction. there’s a cafe that seungmin would love two blocks down. he tells him as much.
“i missed you.”
hyeongjun chuckles. “yeah? we met earlier than i expected.”
“y’think so? it felt eternal.” ever the dramatic one, seungmin hugs their joint hands to his chest.
hyeongjun pretends to check a watch on his wrist. “i had given it another two to five years.”
“two to five?!” seungmin exclaims, bowing sheepishly when a lady on the opposite side of the sidewalk glares at them. “i didn’t think i could bare another minute, jun.”
the thing with their situation is that they don’t actually know how it happened. one day their friends thought it’d be funny to visit a fortune teller. the woman had not been wrong about much till today. seungmin and hyeongjun always find each other, gunil always finds successful, jungsu always finds happiness, jiseok always finds fulfillment, and jooyeon always finds, well, what he wants. his is an odd situation. seungmin has a theory that it’s all jooyeons doing, somehow.
in some lifetimes the six of them meet, sometimes only a few of them do but they always exist within the same realm. however, the others never remember their past lives. besides jooyeon. it used to make hyeongjun a bit sad but he’s learned to be okay with it.
he shivers familiarly at the same time seungmins nose scrunches. they come to a halt half a block away from the cafe. hyeongjun says, “i knew he wasn’t far.”
seungmin turns his head frantically, searching for the cause of the pins down his spine.
a lanky body emerges from a alley. “oh, hey guys!”
seungmin groans half heartedly.
in some reincarnations they meet their four friends, in others only one or two but in every reincarnation so far they’ve met jooyeon.
usually after they find each other but not always. hyeongjun still laughs at how much seungmin hated the time jooyeon and him were childhood friends.
“hi joo,” hyeongjun greets, “we’re getting food, you coming?”
“of course he’s coming, you don’t even have to ask.” seungmin rolls his eyes, starting to walk again.
jooyeon laughs loudly, attracting stares.
“when will you accept that i am the third soulmate, min-ah?”
“you’re the soul third wheel, actually.” seungmin replies, “god forbid i try to spend time with my boyfriend— is that okay?“ he turns to hyeongjun with wide eyes.
“seungmin, we’ve been married.” he supplies and seungmins’ face tints.
now jooyeon groans distastefully, “might as well be kissing in the middle of the street.”
seungmin kicks a sidewalk pebble at his friend.
hyeongjun smiles.
