Little Pinebed Oneshots

Summary:

This is a little oneshot I wrote a while ago for my Little Pinebed series I plan to write (eventually).

I plan to put future oneshots here and, once I actually post the main story, mark their place in the timeline so you can read these along with the story.

Chapter 1: Trouble Sleeping

Summary:

Sam has Trouble Sleeping

Notes:

Updated Sam's pronouns (Now They/Them)

Chapter Text

Sam quietly approached the closed door to their friend Isaac's room. They had been staying the night when they found they couldn't sleep, so the sizeswapper thought they'd take up Isaac’s offer to sleep in his room. "He's still awake studying though." Sam muttered to himself. "I don't want to bother him, so I should be stealthy until he's done."

They sat down and crossed their legs. Leaning back against to door, they closed their eyes and focused. They imagined a hand, larger than their entire body, reaching down towards them. They imagined it scooping them up, fingers curling around them as they're gently held in a warm embrace. In an instant, the only part of them they still felt against the door were their shoulders, a slight breeze through the gap of the door brushing past them.  At their 'tiny height' of nine centimeters, they were easily able to crawl through the gap under the door. A single light from the laptop sitting on Isaac's desk partially illuminated the room.

Isaac's room matched his passion for botany to a T. The walls were covered in planters, filled with various leafy plants. Vines hung from some of them, long enough that they spread out a bit onto the floor. Isaac should probably trim those back a bit... Sam thought. Other than the abundance of plants, Isaac's room was pretty standard as rooms go: Bed, closet, wardrobe, and Sam's next destination, his desk. It was an L-shaped desk Isaac had put in the corner of the room, with one side touching on the same wall that the plants were on and lined up with the door.

While Sam was normally grow back and reveal themself at this point, they could see Isaac clearly busy with something on his laptop. Is he taking night classes again? Sam wondered. No wonder he's been able to spend more time with us lately.

As they continued sneaking towards their comparatively massive friend, they had been unable to spot on of the many small vines that had managed to snake it's way down onto the floor. Sam let out a yelp as they suddenly tripped forward on one of the vines. I should remind him to trim the vines back... Luckily, it didn't seem like Isaac had noticed them, due to the headphones he was wearing. The rest of the trek went rather smoothly after that, with Sam able to make it to Isaac's desk without being noticed.

Sam followed the wall to the space behind the desk. It was fairly dark, and Sam had to lean against the side of the desk until their outstretched hand brushed against metal. Sam grabbed onto the ladder made out of half-punched staples and began to climb. Sam couldn't dream of climbing this relative distance at their normal size, but being small made them much stronger, and tougher than they would be at this size if they merely shrunk.  Once they had reached the top, Sam ducked behind a stack of books that sat on this side of the desk, peeking out to see what their friend was up to. Isaac leaned on his hand, hunched over his laptop. The light coming from the screen that illuminated his face was partially reflected in his glasses, and his dyed-red hair seemed to almost glow in the light.. They could see what he was looking at from this angle, a diagram of some fern Sam couldn't recognize. The article went on about things like soil composition, ph levels, and alot of other stuff Sam couldn't fully grasp but still managed to hold their focus. They didn't know how much time had passed since they started reading along, but it was enough for Sam to realize they had gotten cold again.

I must have been cold for a while then. They realized. I hate how long it takes me to even notice that...Even for Will, who was naturally tiny, it was a big surprise how poorly Sam retained heat. They eventually tore themself away from the screen and stood up, waiting for Isaac to turn to the other side and reach for his drink.

When the moment came, Sam took a running leap off of the desk. They knew they couldn't jump straight into the giant's hood without being noticed immediately, so they aimed for the back of his chair. They smacked into it with a quiet thump, holding onto the sides as tight as they could. They sayed as still as possible, and waited to see if Isaac had noticed. While they did, they made the mistake of looking down, the noticeably high drop reminding them of the fall they had when they first met Will.

Hearing the music leaking through the giant's headphones, along with the distinct lack of a giant grabby hand, Sam breathed a sigh of relief. They crawled into their friend's hood and were immediately met with the pleasant warmth of their friend's back. They leaned into the source of the heat, the shape of the hood enabling him to curl up against the wall of fabric.

It had only been a couple weeks since they first met Will, and discovered they could swap sizes with people, and change their own size on their own. They were still awestruck at moments like these, with how vast everyday objects could feel when they shifted. I mean, they fit in their friend's hood for crying out loud! It felt so strange, so magical, but so *right*.
They had never felt more themself than when they could fit in a person's hand. This feeling was only compounded with the fact that their friend Will perfectly matched them in that way, being a tiny person who wanted to be ‘human-sized.’

The hood gently swayed as Isaac continued his studies. Occasionally, he'd lean into the chair, unaware he would gently squish Sam into his back. It didn't hurt, due to a smaller person's natural toughness, and the pressure was nice, like a full-body hug. Sam quickly fell asleep in the warm embrace.

-- -- -- -- --

“Alright. I think that's enough for tonight.” Isaac declared. He stretched, letting out a groan that would sound like a deep rumble to the tiny in his hood, if they hadn't been asleep. Isaac made his way to his bed, almost collapsing onto it.

Sam awoke as they were tossed around in the hood before a heavy weight fell onto their chest and pinned them to the mattress. They gave out a loud yelp as the breath was pushed out of their lungs. They were suddenly thrown around again as Isaac bolted upright.

“Shit.” Isaac blurted out, looking back to see nobody was on the bed. “Sam? Will?” Sam could hear the urgency in his voice as Isaac quietly called out. “Where are you? Are you alright?”

“I'm in your hood.” Sam called out. They felt the world shake again, along with the sound of a zipper as Isaac slowly removed his hoodie and turned it around. Sam felt the hand before they saw it, giant fingers wrapping around them and gently lifting them out of the hood. They were brought up to the giant, worried face of their friend.
“Are you alright?” Sam could hear the concern in Isaac's voice. They nodded, watching Isaac's face soften as he let out a large sigh of relief. “That's good, that's good." Isaac was still concerned. "I am so, so sorry I didn't notice you.” Sam shook their head, "It's my fault for sneaking in without telling you," Sam admitted. "I couldn't sleep but I didn't want to bother you."

Isaac dropped his hoodie off the side of his bed. "You could've asked me, silly. You wouldn't be bothering me, sleeping in my pocket or hood." He placed Sam on his chest as he laid down, gently resting his hand on them. Sam immediately curled up, pressing his back against their friend's curled up fingers. It was quiet for a few moments, and Sam was left listening to the ambient sounds that came from their giant friend. The rhythmic beating of his heart, that was slowing down after the scare a moment ago, along with the gentle movement of air from his lungs.

“I've said before you're free to come in whenever.” Isaac said, "Just let me know next time, alright?" Sam nodded. "Hey, Isaac?" They asked, "Could you-" Isaac was already on it, gently rubbing Sam's back with a finger. As though flipping a switch, the smaller one was out like a light.

The next morning, Sam found himself in a tangle of limbs. They opened their eyes to find their head pressed against a familiar black tshirt. They looked up at Will's sleeping face and smiled, glancing up in the direction of Isaac's. He was looking off to the side, angling his phone away from the two tiny folk laying on his chest so as to not disturb them. Isaac glanced in their direction, and said a quiet “Good morning.”

Will's arms were wrapped around Sam, holding them close. "I'm guessing they also had trouble sleeping?" Sam guessed. Isaac nodded, and the two shared a quiet chuckle between them. Sam looked away, a bit shy. "Is it alright if we stayt a bit longer?"

Isaac seemed to think for a moment, before letting out an exaggerated sigh. "Okay, just for another hour. I have to get up for work soon. He couldn't say no to the sleepy smol, they were too cute.

Sam reached out to hug Will, who squeezed Sam back a little tighter than before. "Are you pretending to sleep so Isaac stays a bit longer, again?" Sam asked. Another tightening of the hug gave them their answer. "Yeah, I'm with you on that."

With that the two of them slowly fell back asleep in eachother's arms, on the chest of their friend.
