Chapter Text
I could feel the sweat sliding down the back of my neck under the formal collar, thick and clinging. Too hot for the region we were in. Too hot, with this many alphas in one room.
It wasn’t just too many bodies. It was too much rank aggression—dominance leaking out through the Northwesterners’ teeth, their postures, the way they flexed their claws whenever someone spoke out of turn. I had been sitting in the circle for over an hour, and every minute felt like something was going to snap. A fight. A challenge. Blood.
We shouldn’t have had to come here like this.
If things had been different—if the rains had come on time, if the borders hadn’t been pushed, if our parents were still alive—we wouldn’t be sitting in a borrowed structure surrounded by wolves in men’s clothing who wanted nothing more than to pick our bones clean.
But here we were. And it was my job to make sure we didn’t leave empty-handed.
The Southwest used to thrive—wide valleys, deep rivers, dependable cycles. We traded in herbs, in salt, in cultivated meat herds and cooling stones. That was before the drought, before the border skirmishes, before half the trade routes dried up along with the land. Now we were stretched thin. One bad winter and pups wouldn’t make it. We didn’t have enough medicine. Our hunters and defenders were spread too far, too thin. And without fresh territory, without access to the Northwest passes for trade...
We wouldn’t last another season like this.
My brother Collin wouldn’t say it—he was alpha now, and pride ran deeper than blood in him—but I knew he saw the edge we were standing on. How badly we needed support.
Except the Northwesterners knew it, too.
That was the worst part. I was convinced, at this point, that they could smell the desperation coming off us as clearly as our pack-scent. They had looked at each of us exactly once and likely known in an instant that we were young, newly blooded, still mourning. They knew we had no leverage.
And yet here we were, trying to bluff our way through like we were still whole.
As second-in-command, I was the one who was supposed to hold the line. Keep things from falling apart, smooth things over. Calm the tension. Except—the title still felt like borrowed cloth. I hadn’t worn it long enough to stretch into the seams. I didn’t know if I ever would.
I nodded when I was supposed to. Spoke when Collin cued me. Took notes, observed postures, tracked which alphas were bristling and which were watching for weakness. I did my job to the best of my ability, to the best that I understood it, even as the creeping thought of it’s not enough worried through my veins.
The Northwest Alpha was leaning back in his chair like he was bored. Like this entire summit was beneath him. The lowlight cast his dark eyes with a golden sheen, gnarled scars visible on his rugged features. One muscular arm was slung over the backrest, his mouth pulled into something between a smirk and a sneer. He hadn’t moved in ten minutes, and still every other alpha in the room adjusted themselves around his presence.
Rey.
I’d never met him before, but I’d heard stories about him. Of course I had. Everyone had. His pack ruled most of the western routes—mountains, rivers, border passes—and they didn’t rule it with politics. They ruled it with force. Territory. Strength. Fear. They had never had to negotiate, because no one had ever made them.
But we needed them. We were still rebuilding. The Southwest lands were dry this season, and the border tensions with the southern cliffs were climbing too fast. Collin and I had had no choice—we had to ask.
And now we were sitting here being picked apart.
Collin sat with his shoulders straight beside me, voice calm, cutting through the unease like a blade. “We’re not asking for charity. We’re offering a fair deal. Our trade routes intersect through the Basin, and your eastern borders are exposed.”
Rey made a low, amused sound. Didn’t even look at Collin when he drawled, “You’ve got nothing I want.”
The way he said it—casual, final—made Collin stiffen. The other alphas exchanged looks, sniffing the tension in the air like blood. It was the same thing he’d been saying ever since we had sat down and began the conversation, the same tired sentiment of what can you give me that I don’t already have?
It wasn’t just unfair—it was greedy. Obvious, even. If we’d had anything worth trading besides labor, we wouldn’t be here groveling in front of someone like him.
Whispers traded between border guards and traders, old tales passed down from pack to pack like warnings scratched into bark. They said he cleared the Southern Pass alone once—walked into a rogue den where six alphas had gone feral and walked out soaked in blood that wasn’t his. Said he didn’t even shift. Just used his claws.
They said his pack didn’t speak. That they moved like shadows behind him, silent and obedient, not a single one of them daring to move unless he willed it. Like a weapon that only he could unsheathe.
One trader told me he’d seen Rey bare his teeth at a summit once—just once—and two packs backed out of a deal without another word. Said he could smell lies. Smell fear. Smell weakness like blood in the water.
And heat.
Gods, the rumors about that were worse. That he had never been rejected. That any omega who scented near him ended up on their back or on all fours, wrecked, leaking, bred so deep they couldn’t remember their own names. That he’d once mounted an omega in wolf form mid-hunt, and they never shifted back. Went feral from it. Lived in his den now, kept for heat seasons.
Ridiculous.
I ground my teeth and kept my head down. I wasn’t supposed to speak or show emotion unless prompted. I was here to record. To support. Nothing more.
Still. That… smirk. Earlier, when Collin had introduced me as his brother and beta second-in-command, he’d been smirking incessantly, too. Like he’d already gotten something out of this, and now he was just waiting for the rest of us to realize it.
As if summoned by my thoughts, Rey’s eyes, dark and impassive, flicked to me. They didn’t leave. “Unless your pack’s offering something else,” he added quietly.
My stomach twisted. I pretended not to hear it. I pretended I wasn’t sweating, not suddenly hyper-aware of his gaze, of the way my clothes clung a little tighter to my skin.
Something was wrong—I became aware of it suddenly. I was too warm. Dizzy. There was a strange, low pressure building in my gut that wouldn’t go away. I shifted my weight, trying to hide how my knees were locking.
Collin’s voice sharpened. “We’re not here to play games.”
“Then stop wasting my time.” Rey shrugged, unmoved, and the silence that followed was thick enough to choke on.
I felt it happen before I understood what it was—heat curling deep in my abdomen, then breaking like a wave. My whole body went hot, and then hotter, sticky between my thighs, chest tight, vision swimming.
No. No, no—
Gods, somehow, I was making a mess. Right there at the table. The ass and crotch of my pants were wet against my skin, and I could feel the fabric sticking to me, rubbing the slick in, as if trying to press it back inside me.
A rush of scent spilled out from me, sweet and ripe, and the room erupted. I was barely aware of growls, movement, chairs scraping back—chaos erupting as alphas rose and lunged, only to turn on each other, jaws open, eyes wild.
I realized, belatedly, that it was my scent setting them off.
If I’d thought he’d been staring at me earlier, there was no doubt that Rey was looking at me now—still sprawled in his chair, still an infuriating half-smirk on his lips, one scarred eyebrow raised. Looking very interested.
I didn’t wait to find out what he was going to do about it.
I bolted.
Out of the meeting house, into the clearing, down the hill. My lungs were burning, my heart was crashing against my ribs, and my skin was soaked with panic-sweat and the stink of my own heat.
Gods. My heat. This wasn’t happening. This couldn’t be happening.
I wasn’t an omega.
I was a beta.
. 。・゜✭・.・✫゜・。. . 。・゜✭・.・✫゜・。. . 。・゜✭・.・✫゜・。.
i’d always been a beta.
but the scent clinging to me—as sweet and sharp as it was wrong and unfamiliar—was unmistakable. i could smell myself. i could smell how slick i was, how wet i’d gotten without even noticing, how my scent filled the air like ripe fruit gone soft on the vine. i could hear the growls behind me, louder now, closer. the pounding of boots. the scrape of claws. a snarl that didn’t sound human at all, because it most likely wasn’t.
my body didn’t ask for permission. it just moved.
i shifted mid-sprint, my clothes tearing apart with the violence of it, bones reshaping, joints snapping, fur bursting across my skin as my form collapsed down into all fours. i hit the ground hard, paws digging into the dry earth, and i ran.
i had no clue of where i was headed, of where would be safe. this was unfamiliar territory to me. but it didn’t matter. branches still whipped past me, the sharp scent of pine and wild grass hitting my nose like a slap, lungs burning with every breath. my hindlegs trembled with effort, and still i pushed forward—faster, harder, deeper into the trees, toward anywhere that wasn’t here.
the heat followed. that awful, pulsing ache between my legs, flooding my senses with need, slick leaking down my fur, clinging to my thighs. i tried to outrun it, but it was inside me, curling tighter with every thud of my paws against the ground.
somewhere behind me, i heard a howl.
low. controlled. it wasn’t the others. the chaos i’d left behind was distant now, their voices swallowed up by the trees. somehow i knew, as sure as i knew the burning in my muscles, that it was him.
the northwest alpha.
my back legs almost faltered at the thought—his eyes, the way he’d looked at me, like he already knew, like he’d been waiting for this to happen. i could still feel the weight of his stare on my skin, the low rasp of his voice as he’d denied collin over and over again.
gods, not him.
the trees blurred around me. my body was overheating. the world narrowed down to scent and instinct and terror. my paws hit uneven ground—i stumbled, caught myself, kept going. but i was slowing. no matter how hard i pushed, my body was beginning to betray me again. the heat was climbing higher, melting my thoughts, making it harder to breathe, to think.
i needed to stop. just for a second. just to cool down. hide. anything.
but as soon as i veered off the path and into a hollow thick with leaves and moss, my legs buckled. i collapsed into the dirt, chest heaving, hips twitching. my tail curled involuntarily, high and tight, and i couldn’t stop panting. my tongue lolled out of my mouth, and every breath i took just filled me with more of my own sickly-sweet scent.
i tried to stand. i couldn’t. my back legs wouldn’t listen to me. i was leaking. slick and open and empty. the ache in my belly throbbed with every heartbeat.
i dropped my head low and whined, small and broken. this wasn’t happening. this couldn’t be real.
then the wind shifted. just slightly, and i knew he was close.
the clearing swayed around me. everything reeked of heat—my heat. it clung to the moss, the bark, the air itself. i was soaked in it, leaking it, breathing it in with every trembling breath. my body felt too big, too swollen, too sensitive. my chest heaved, my tongue hung loose from my muzzle, and my back legs were useless beneath me, twitching with every pulse of wet, aching emptiness.
i couldn’t stop leaking. slick dripped steadily down the backs of my hindlegs, warm and sticky against the dirt. every twitch of my hips made a soft, obscene sound. i couldn’t squeeze my legs together. i couldn’t run. i couldn’t think.
and then the wind shifted.
i smelled him. REY. his name sang throughout my entire being like a shout, invoking a strange mixture of alarm and anticipation. no, i needed to get up—
my ears flattened. my front legs scrabbled uselessly against the moss as instinct screamed at me to run, but my hind legs wouldn’t move. my body wouldn’t obey me. the heat had sunk too deep, eaten through every rational thought, and now i was nothing but scent and slick and submission.
he stepped into the clearing like he’d known exactly where i’d be.
massive in his wolf form—dark, broad-shouldered, fur bristling with power. his eyes locked on me and didn’t blink. he didn’t bare his teeth, didn’t make a sound as he stalked forwards, and lowered his head behind me.
i should’ve been yelping in terror, scrambling to get away. instead, i whimpered—high and broken, ears pinning flat to my skull—as his nose pressed right between my legs. he sniffed deep, the sound slow and deliberate. and then—
one long, slow drag of hot tongue up my swollen, leaking hole.
he licked me. i jolted, a pathetic little whine ripping from my throat. my tail twitched uncontrollably. i tried to crawl forward and away, but his next lick made my hips freeze, trembling.
another. slower this time. then again, deeper.
he lapped at me like he was savoring the taste, licking up every drop of slick i’d spilled, tongue pressing into me, pulling more out. i was so wet i could hear it—each obscene lap slicker than the last.
i couldn’t stop trembling. my paws slipped in the moss, my body rocking helplessly back into each stroke. i hated it. i needed it. i’m not an omega, i’m not an omega—
except slick kept pouring out of me in warm pulses, spilling down my legs, stringing between the grass and my fur. my hole throbbed, twitching open and closed with every pass of his tongue. i was whining constantly now, a quiet stream of pitiful, desperate sound.
he licked me until my back legs gave out entirely and i slumped into the mess i’d made, hips lifted, tail high.
then he growled—low, final—and climbed on top of me, his weight settling over me like a stormcloud breaking.
rey was massive. his front paws dug into the earth on either side of me, claws sinking in deep, body braced as he rocked his hips down and ground against me. not a thrust—not yet—just the heavy press of his cock dragging between my soaked hindlegs. thick and hot, leaving streaks of slick behind like he was marking me.
i panted into the moss, unable to help it, bolted in place by the lightning need racing up and down my spine. even if i had been able to move, there was a small, strange part of me that wondered if i would have. there was something inside me rising up alongside the heat, some old instinct, that demanded i submit.
a yelp wrenched out of me, raw and desperate, my whole body jolting as he rutted forward again. his shaft caught on my twitching hole, smearing even more slick and precome across the mess i’d already made.
i braced myself, but he didn’t shove inside me—not yet, no, he teased, pulling away entirely. his tongue flicked out to taste the air—my scent, my heat—and then he lowered his muzzle again. i gasped, a high-pitched whine i didn’t recognize as mine, as his tongue dragged again through the slick that had puddled.
nothing had ever felt so good.
lick. lick. lick.
i sagged into the dirt, hips trembling uncontrollably as he worked circles around my rim, slicking me open, nosing in with quiet grunts of satisfaction. my hole clenched over nothing, again and again. my body was begging, twitching, leaking. i couldn’t stop it. i didn’t want to stop it. i just needed—
i whined again, garbled and feral, pushing up. against him.
a snarl resounded deep in his chest, the only forewarning i had before he was mounting me hard. he fit over me like he’d been carved for it, like my back was meant to hold his shadow.
his cock drilled forward, thick and soaked with both our slick, the blunt tip grinding against my hole until pop and i howled. my claws tore up the moss beneath me as he shoved in, thick shaft forcing my walls to stretch wide around him. i’d never taken a cock, and gods, he was massive. i felt every inch. felt myself clamp down on him, felt the slick sloshing out of me around his cock.
he didn’t stop.
he fucked.
hard thrusts, brutal rhythm, balls slapping against my soaked folds as he drove in again and again. my body rocked beneath him, paws skidding forward with every slam of his hips. i couldn’t hold myself up anymore—my chest hit the dirt. my ass stayed high. offered.
i was drooling, whining, my body clutching around him greedily, trying to milk him, every clench of my heat-slick walls dragging a growl from his throat.
then i felt it—a swelling fast at the base of his cock, grinding against my hole with every thrust, threatening to lock me down and keep me there. gods, what was that? trepeditation shot through me at the unfamiliar sensation, and i tried to crawl forward, shaking, instinct screaming no, not yet, not inside, but it was too late.
he bit down on my scruff—hard—and slammed forward one last time. the knotted flesh popped fully past my rim, lodging inside on a deep thrust. i howled again, high and ruined, as my body stretched around the thickness, locked tight. he held me there, biting my neck, monstrous cock buried to the hilt, knot pulsing as it swelled even further, impossibly huge. i was going to break—
the thought was forgotten in an instant when hot spurts of come flooded my belly, thick and endless. i could feel it—every pulse of come, every flood of warmth pouring into me, stuffing me full. it was too much. i was already full. it spilled back out around the knot, dripping down my thighs, soaking into the dirt beneath us.
and he didn’t stop.
he stayed knotted deep, grinding down into me with erratic jerks of his hips, his teeth still latched into my scruff. my hole clenched again, milking him, greedy for it. my brain was gone. melted. my tongue lolled out of my mouth and i sobbed through the overstimulation, body shaking, belly heavy with seed.
i was bred. and there was no going back.
. 。・゜✭・.・✫゜・。. . 。・゜✭・.・✫゜・。. . 。・゜✭・.・✫゜・。.
the den always smelled like sex.
not fresh—the sharp scent of heat and spit and first claiming had long since faded—but thick and constant, soaked into the furs, the floor, the walls. rey’s scent, and mine. tangled together.
i didn’t mind.
i was curled on my side, in human skin, my belly full and heavy, legs splayed, sweat dampening the fur around my neck. my hole was still twitching around the knot locked inside me, still leaking slowly around the edges—warm dribbles of thick, lazy seed soaking into the blankets beneath me.
rey was behind me. still. heavy. his arm draped over my waist, paw cradling the slight swell just beginning to rise under my belly again.
the litter would take.
he’d made sure of it. kept his knot in me for over an hour. at least three rounds—maybe four. i’d lost count after the second orgasm, when my head went light and my legs stopped responding.
i shifted, whimpering softly, and rey growled into my shoulder. not a warning. just claiming . possessive. reminding me what i was. whose i was, i corrected myself, as his knot pulsed again. i clenched around it instinctively, and a rush of come flooded me deeper. gods. i loved it. how had i ever been afraid of something so right?
there was no summit anymore. no council. no pressure. in the months that had passed since i’d joined rey’s pack, the southwest was thriving. trade routes secured, borders protected, winter supplies stacked high. no one questioned how we’d—they’d—earned that protection. collin hadn’t wanted to trade my mating rights for survival, but the choice had been clear.
i wasn’t second-in-command of anything anymore. i wasn’t anything but a hole for rey to fuck and fill. and i loved it. i was rey’s now. his breeding bitch. his cumslut. i hardly even went into heats anymore—because he kept me bred. filled, fucked, marked.
it wasn’t like i needed heat anyway, not when i already spent hours every day with his knot buried inside me. fucking me happy and ruined in the same breath.
and when rey leaned down, licked behind my ear, and growled still not full enough, i moaned like a whore and rolled my hips back against him, still open, still leaking, still wet for him.
because there was no safer place. no better purpose—than this.
