Work Text:
Maylancholy day 2
shoved into a tight space (alt)
(was originally major character death)
Waking up tied to a chair isn't the weirdest way Street has woken up before
It is, however, the most panic inducing
But he swallowed the panic, looking around as he tried to get free
'Basic bitch cement walls, probably a basement'
He moved his wrists around, trying to test for any give
But there wasn't much
He could tell they were held back by zip ties, each of his ankles zip tied to a leg of the chair
His boots were missing, just his socks between bare feet and the cold floor
Other than that, he still had his jeans -minus his belt- and T-shirt
(He was wearing a hoodie last he checked, he hopes he can get that back, he liked that one)
He could see the staircase, a door at the top
If he could get out of the zip ties, he might be able to get out
On another note though;
The door just opened
A man and a woman that Street didn't recognize came down
"Good evening, officer Street." The woman greeted
'Who could I have pissed off that's fucking British?'
...
'Do I even know any British people?'
"Hope you had a good nap, cause it's time for us to get down to business." The man spoke
"To defeat.. the Huns.." Street sang "Mulan, anyone?"
"Yes, we're familiar." The woman rolled her eyes "No, we have contacted your teammates, but they have yet to respond, so what do you feel would make them respond sooner?"
"Yes, what could we say that would really get their attention?" The man continued
"Uh.. What did you say exactly?" Street questioned
'What the hell?'
"We emailed them, quote 'we have your friend in our basement, if you wish to see him again, you will meet our demands' unquote." The woman told him
"Did you include your demands in the- did you say email?" Street asked, holding back a laugh "Please, the only one on the team that checks their email regularly is Deacon. Who did you try?"
"We tried your roommate, Officer Dominique Luca."
"Yeah, okay, try commander Hicks or just text them like anyone else in this decade would." Street suggested "And include your demands in the first message, or if you wanna be really dramatic, send the demands exactly an hour later."
"Oh, alright." The woman accepted "We shall text Officer Luca instead."
"Agreed." The man nodded
"Alright, good luck." Street added "Oh, can I ask, what time is it?"
"It is half past sixteen hundred hours." The woman answered after checking her watch
(4:30pm for those who don't know military time)
"Thanks."
"We shall return shortly."
With that, they went back up the stairs
Street waited until he heard them walk away before trying the zip ties again
He could feel a little room in the ties around his hands, if he tried hard enough, he might be able to get free
He kept his ears and eyes on the door and just beyond it, making sure they weren't coming back
He could hear them talking but couldn't make out any words
After a minute, and some irritation cause they were tighter than he thought, he managed to squeeze a hand out
It hurt a bit, but he got his hand out
The next thing is figuring out how to get his legs free
He checked his pockets, finding his phone, but no service
And his pocket knife?
'Why would they leave that?'
He shrugged, opening it
He leaned down to cut the zip ties, barely managing to not cut himself in the process
Now that he was free, he carefully, as quietly as possible, made his way up the stairs
He listened for the two, they were still talking
Street guessed about ten or so feet away
So he took his chances, slowly opening the door
He cringed as it creaked but heard no footsteps and continued
Street peeked out, trying to figure out where they were
He didn't see them so he silently exited the basement completely, closing the door behind himself
He carefully started down the hallway, trying to find either a window or a door, either worked for him
He leaned around a corner, scanning the room with his eyes quickly
Not spotting anyone, he continued on, pausing when he heard a voice
"Well we'll see what we can do but it's gonna take a while."
'That was Hondo!'
"But we need proof of life first." Hondo continued "It'd be pointless if we released your mother and he was dead anyway"
"Very well, we will send a video to Officer Luca, give us twenty minutes." The man decided
"We'll be waiting" Hondo promised
Street heard them coming his way and hurried to duck into a closet
He was able to see through the slots in the door as they passed but they just continued on towards the basement
If he was gonna get out, he has to do it now
He stayed as quiet as possible but picked up the pace, making his way through the living room
He finally got to the front door right as he heard a 'Damn it!' down the hall
He threw the door open, closing it behind himself in hopes to slow them down a bit
Running down the front steps, he headed for the gate
Just as he got to the gate, he heard a click
He ignored it
Until he touched the gate
"Gaahh- fuck!" He exclaimed, letting go almost instantly as it electrocuted him "Fuck fuck fuck-"
"That's far enough." The woman called "You either come back in willingly or my husband will have no choice but to knock you back out"
"Like hell." Street muttered, turning back to the gate
He went to jump it, as it was only 3 1/2 feet tall but as soon as his feet left the ground, another body collided into his and he was on the ground
"I warned you." The woman reasoned as Street tried his best to fight the guy off him
He almost won but then he was shoved back into the gate
He was unable to move for a moment as electricity shot through his back
Then it was off just as fast
"Amelia.." The man sighed "we could've let him suffer a moment longer"
"We aren't trying to kill him, Richard, just needed to subdue him enough so you could bring him back inside without a fight." The woman, Amelia, reminded "Now, lets get back in before he gains his strength again"
Street hated this
He hated where he was moved to, he hated that he could barely move, he hated that he no longer had his phone
He hated the darkness, the quiet
He hates Amelia and Richard, if those are their real names
He should've called the team before even leaving the basement completely
They could've tracked him
But no, he had to be stupid about it
Now Amelia and Richard have shoved him into this tiny room which only gave him about a foot either way when he was in the middle and his legs were drawn up
He didn't have enough room to stand
It was a crawl space, really
a real 'Harry Potter under the stairs' vibe
He had been there for about 5 minutes before the door opened, the light blinding him for a moment before he adjusted
"Your team needs proof of life. We were supposed to have it for them five minutes ago but you decided to be difficult when we had done nothing to harm you." Amelia scoffed, her phone in hand "Ungrateful, truly. We were trying to be kind."
"Yeah, cause kidnapping me on my way home is 'kind'." Street bit
"We didn't hurt you, we didn't take away any of your prized possessions; like your cell phone or your pocket knife. We know that knife is important to you." Amelia continued "How your friend- sorry, brother, what's his name, Nate, got it for you for your seventeenth birthday?"
Street's eyes widened, that's not exactly easy info to get
"We've been watching you a while, Officer." Richard spoke up "We know all about you, your mother, your brothers, even your father."
"How he locked you in a closet once for almost twelve hours for knocking over his whiskey while your mother was out scoring drugs." Amelia took back over "About the size of this room, if I recall,"
Street didn't respond, just glared
"And now your team knows about that too." she finished
"Fuck you." Street spat
"Mm, words don't affect us."
"Who the fuck even are you?" Street demanded
"Amelia and Richard Bevell," Richard introduced "Happy to finally meet in person."
"Sure, right, great first impression" Street rolled his eyes "First you kidnap me, then you ask me how to demand ransom, then you fucking electrocute me, now I'm locked in the worlds smallest fucking room with a god damn camera in my face. You really know how to socialize, don't you?"
"To tell the truth, we don't talk to anybody else."
"That checks out."
"We'll be going now, check back in soon." Amelia finished, closing the door
Street had already tried kicking it open earlier but it seems like they put something in front of it
So he had nothing to do but wait
Luca's day was going great
The team had the day off, he had gone to see his dad, Street was home with Duke
Well Street had gone on a ride but as far as Luca knows, he should be home by now
After he left his dads, he went to the store to get stuff for dinner after not getting an answer from Street about if they had tortillas left
That kinda worried him but he brushed it off for now, figured Street was playing video games or maybe taking a nap (dude barely slept last night, second one's more likely)
Then on his way home, his phone went off with a text
Thinking it was Street finally getting back to him, he got it out
He glanced at it, debating its importance
Then processed the first few words he'd caught
Immediately, he pulled to the side
Officer Luca,
We have your friend, James 'Jim' Street, in our basement. if you wish to see him again, you and your team will meet our demands.
-The Bevells
"No way." Luca muttered, moving to Streets number and hitting call
"Honestly, if I didn't answer, I probably don't know you. but if I do, just text me, I don't check my messages"
Luca tried again
"Honestly, if I didn-"
And again
"Honestly-"
"Shit." Luca realized, pulling back onto the road as he called Hondo "Fuck fuck fuck-"
"What's up?"
"I think Street's been taken, I got a text from a random number that they had him and he's not answering. I'm going to check the house now." Luca rushed out "I'm gonna call Tan next if he's not home, they share their locations, I'll see if it's up."
"Woah woah woah, slow down a sec," Hondo cut in "start over. What did the text say?"
"Exactly what I just told you, they have Street in their basement and if we wanna see him again, we gotta meet their demands." Luca explained "I for one, do wanna see him again."
"Yeah, okay, I'll call Tan, you let me know if he's home." Hondo ordered
"Will do."
With that, Luca hung up
Just as he turned down his street
Streets bike wasn't in the driveway, which should've been enough to confirm it
But he parked and headed into the house anyway
Duke greeted him at the door, like any other day
"Street?!" Luca called "you home?!"
Luca knew that it didn't matter where Street could've been, Street would have heard him yelling from anywhere in the house
'Cause they've done it who knows how many times by now
He went through and checked each room anyway, just to be sure
But found nobody else
His phone started ringing, he barely glanced at it before answering
"He's not here, his bike's not here. If he was taken, it was before he got home."
"Tan says his location last showed him about a mile from your house, that was an hour and a half ago." Hondo informed "I'm on my way to you, the others are heading for HQ, gonna try and ping his phone the right way."
"I'm gonna go see if I can't find where he was last, maybe- maybe he crashed or something." Luca reasoned "Meet me there?"
"Already close." Hondo promised before hanging up
"Alright Duke, I've gotta go to work after all."
Duke whined from where he was sitting in front of Streets door
"I know, I'll bring him home." Luca assured, giving him a few pats before heading out the door
He got back in the car, checking the ping Tan had sent him
"Please be okay.."
Luca pulled off to the side, spotting Hondo already there
"Anything?" Luca called over as he got out
Hondo just shook his head
Luca took that as a cue to start looking around
They walked around the area for almost 5 minutes before Luca spotted it
"Hondo!" He yelled "I got his bike!"
Not waiting for a response, Luca carefully made his way into the ditch
"Any sign of Street?" Hondo prompted, staying up at the top
It wasn't very deep, only a few feet down from the road
"I got his jacket, little bit of blood. Nothing good could've happened." Luca told him "Good news, if this was a crash, it wasn't that bad, bad news, I don't think it was a normal crash."
"Take pictures before you touch anything." Hondo reminded "Either way, it could be a crime scene."
"Yeah." Luca agreed, getting his phone out
"And text that number to Deac, see if they can use that to figure out who it is." Hondo added
"Yup."
"We only know one thing for sure." Hondo continued "Street's missing."
in the eagles nest
"Okay, we can't ping his phone or the mystery number but they didn't offer any proof that they have Street." Deacon started "I think we should call them."
"You think they'd answer?" Luca countered
"What other choice do we got?" Deacon shrugged "We can set a trap and trace, try to keep them talking long enough to get a location."
"Not a bad idea and I'm not hearing any others." Hondo agreed "Let's do it."
Luca got his phone out, pulling up the text
He hit call, putting it on speaker and placing it on the table
After a few rings, they thought no one was gonna answer but then..
"Officer Luca, I can't believe it worked." A woman's voice came through "Have you thought about our offer?"
"Yes I have, I'd like to know what your demands are before I agree to anything." Luca told her
"Quite simple, really." She responded "I'd like my mother released from prison, she is being held and Los Angeles county women's prison, she's in my car by midnight or your friend dies."
"Kind of need a name." Luca reminded
"Toni Bevell."
"Can we get your name?" Hondo spoke up
"Ah, sergeant Harrelson, hello" A man cut in "I can only assume the rest of your team is there too, lovely to finally speak to you."
"You too." Deacon returned "Seems like you know a lot about us, yet we got nothing on you except for your mothers name, anything you'd like to share?"
"And why would we tell you anything?" The woman scoffed
"An act of good faith?" Hondo offered "Look, if you don't want to tell us who you are, fine, but we need to know Street's okay."
"He's alright, he just can't leave until my mother is free."
"Well we'll see what we can do but it's gonna take a while." Hondo reasoned "But we need proof of life first, it'd be pointless if we released your mother and he was dead anyway."
"Very well, we will send a video to officer Luca." the man decided "Give us twenty minutes."
"We'll be waiting." Hondo promised just before they hung up "Anything on the trace?"
"Nothing, they're scrambling their signal, we'd need almost a half hour phone call to get exact." Tan answered
"Alright, well they should be sending Luca that video in about twenty minutes. Hopefully we can get something off of that." Hondo responded
"Meanwhile, I think I know who we're dealing with." Deacon announced "Toni Bevell only had one daughter, Amelia."
"The guy?" Luca prompted "Husband?"
"Yeah, Richard, they both got warrants out for their arrests in their hometown, but Toni was arrested here for murder." Deacon continued "She killed her abusive boyfriend of thirty years, Amelia's father."
"Why do I feel like we've heard this story before?" Tan cut in
"Well its not exactly rare, Tan." Hondo deadpanned
"No no no, like..."
"If you mean personally, Street's mom killed his dad." Luca reminded
"That, yeah." Tan nodded
"Weird.." Deacon commented
"Weird?" Hondo echoed
"Well- Okay so Toni killed Amelia's dad because he was abusive, right?" Deacon started "Karen did the same thing, and it just so happens that her son is the one Amelia and Richard decide to go after, that sound a little oddly specific to anyone else?"
...
"Karen was held in the same prison, what're the odds they knew each other?" Luca added
"And, what, bonded over killing the fathers of their kids?" Tan scoffed before pausing "It's actually not that crazy."
"I can call the warden, see if he knows if Toni and Karen were in the same block." Hondo decided "In the meantime, we got fifteen minutes before that video comes in. Someone fill in Hicks and make sure you're saving all this for evidence"'
"Video just came in." Luca alerted
"They're late." Hondo pointed out
"There's a text attached to it, saying they had some issues. Apparently Street's causing trouble." Luca told them
"Of course he is." Tan muttered
"Let's see it on the big screen." Hondo ordered as Hicks walked in
Luca nodded, already working on it
A moment later, the video was playing
The first thing they noticed was the tiny 'room'
Then they noticed the clear marks of a fight along with a glare to go with it
"Your team needs proof of life. We were supposed to have it for them five minutes ago but you decided to be difficult when we had done nothing to harm you." Amelia scoffed "Ungrateful, truly, we were trying to be kind"
"Yeah, cause kidnapping me on my way home is 'kind'." Street bit
"Cue the 'tude." Luca chuckled
"Means he's relatively okay." Tan reasoned with a shrug
"We didn't hurt you, we didn't take any of your prized possessions, like your cell phone or your pocket knife. We know that knife is important to you." Amelia continued "How your friend- sorry, brother, what's his name, Nate, got it for you for your seventeenth birthday?"
Streets eyes widened
Hondo and Luca shared a look
Not even most of the team had known about that
"We've been watching you for a while, Officer." Richard spoke up "We know all about you, your mother, your brothers, even your father."
"How he locked you in a closet once for almost twelve hours for knocking over his whiskey while your mother was out scoring drugs." Amelia took back over "About the size of this room, if I recall."
Street didn't respond, just glared
The team could easily read the panic behind the glare
Whether or not that was true was confirmed when Street didn't give back his usual snark
"And now your team knows about it too."
"Fuck you." Street spat
There it is
"Mm, words don't affect us."
"Who the fuck even are you?" Street demanded
"Street doesn't know them, that's something." Tan pointed out
"Amelia and Richard Bevell," Richard introduced "happy to finally meet you in person."
"Sure, right, great first impression." Street rolled his eyes "First you kidnap me, then you ask me how to demand ransom, then you fucking electrocute me, now I'm locked in the worlds smallest fucking room with a god damn camera in my face. You really know how to socialize, don't you?"
"Electrocute?" Luca echoed
"Not severely, by the looks of it." Deacon noted
"To tell the truth, we don't talk to anybody else."
"That checks out"
"We'll be going now, check back in soon." Amelia finished
She closed the door, locking it
"There you have it, proof of life." Richard started "Now we want Toni Bevell out of prison, or he's dead by zero-hundred hours and we'll make you watch."
(zero hundred=midnight)
The video ended there, just as Richard started moving a china cabinet towards the door
"Okay, that's.. Helpful." Tan muttered "All we learned from that is shit he didn't want us to know and that they're not afraid to hurt him."
"Still got nothing on the trace." Deacon added
"I think its time to consider our options." Luca admitted
"Which are what, Luca?" Deacon questioned
"I only see two, neither are ideal but one is better than the other." Tan pointed out "Either we give them what they want or-"
"Or Street's dead." Luca finished
"We can't release a murderer from prison." Hicks denied
"I don't want to but I'd rather that than lose Street." Luca reasoned
"Toni Bevell is not being released from prison, end of discussion."
"So you just want to let them kill Street?" Luca countered
"Of course not, but-"
"'Cause that's what's gonna happen." Luca argued "Unless we can come up with something better in a few hours but I'm not seeing a third option here."
"No situation is ideal, but we gotta think of the civilians put at risk if we-"
"Would you be saying the same thing if it was Molly?" Luca cut him off "Would you say we gotta put everyone else ahead of her?"
"Molly is a civilian."
"So Street just doesn't matter then?" Luca scoffed "He'd be right here fighting if it was you that was abducted instead, or any of us. He'd go with the option that gave us the best chance of getting home, but you're just disregarding the fact that Street's the one at risk right now!"
"He would also want us to put the lives of others over his." Hicks reminded
"'Cause that's who he fucking is!" Luca snapped "But he doesn't get a say right now, and I for one don't wanna spend the weekend burying my best friend."
"Okay, everyone calm down." Hondo cut in "Look, we've been here before, why don't we just do the same thing we did when he was a hostage on that plane?"
"They'd see right through a trick, Hondo." Deacon countered
"Maybe, but it's our only shot at not setting a killer free and saving Street." Hondo reasoned "I don't see another way."
"I'll get it approved." Hicks agreed "But we need to have a full proof plan in place"
Street looked up at the sounds of the cabinet sliding
If he was counting correctly, it's been about 3 and a half hours now
He really fucking hates the dark
He winced at the sudden light, squinting his eyes as Richard appeared in front of him
"Your team has agreed to our demands." He informed "However, I don't trust them one bit"
"They won't do anything while you still have me." Street told him "They wouldn't risk my life."
"While I believe you are correct, I still need the insurance. So you aren't gonna be shown to them until my mother in law is inside and they are at least a block away from here." Richard responded "But you are gonna hang out in here, once we have left, they will be welcome to come retrieve you"
"That's your plan?" Street scoffed "And they agreed to it?"
"Still waiting on a reply but they don't have much choice."
"Okay, can I make a suggestion?" Street offered "They wont agree to let you guys leave unless they know for sure that I'm here, they have no reason to believe you. Tie me to a chair in the middle of the window or something, so they can see me, or let one of them come in with her and tell them they can't leave until you're clear"
"So they can betray us?"
"No, if you want them to actually trust your word, it'll help them to know for certain that I'm here and they aren't going on a wild goose chase." Street reasoned
"What if we just sent them on a.. wild goose chase, as you say.. it'd give us more time to get away." Richard countered
"What?"
Before Street could process it, Richard was reaching in and slamming his head against the wall
Everything went black from there
"yes, I think we should do that." Richard decided "Honey, I'm going to move Officer Street to another location!"
"Okay, dear!" Amelia called back "Don't forget, agreed time is eleven!"
"I know, I'll be back in half an hour!"
"Amelia and Richard Bevell, we are here to drop off Toni Bevell!" Hicks shouted through the megaphone "We have two Officers coming up with her to the door, then we will back away!"
"Do it quickly!" Amelia yelled back
Once Hicks gave them the nod to move, Hondo and Tan started taking her up to the porch
They waited as she went inside the door before backing down the stairs and back to Hicks
"Now leave, at least a block away!" Richard reminded
Hicks started waving everyone to move back
Once they were far enough, Amelia, Richard, and Toni all headed for the car
"Keys for Officer Streets room are on the table in the living room!" Amelia told them before getting in
A helicopter was gonna follow their car until they got to the end of city limits, where state troopers and some patrol officers were waiting
As soon as they were out of sight, Luca and Hondo both made a break for the house with Tan and Deacon close behind
Luca and Hondo started moving the cabinet while Tan went for the keys
Tan was rushing back in with the keys in hand, sliding part of the way to the door
"Street-"
Door was opened
"We.. no.." Tan shook his head before standing up "He's not here"
"What do you mean he's not here?" Hicks demanded as he joined them
"I mean he's not where they said he'd be."
"Start clearing the house, no way they moved him that fast." Hondo ordered
"Start with the basement." Hicks added "I'm going upstairs."
"I'm with you, commander." Deacon decided
"Luca, basement." Hondo motioned him to follow "Tan, start up here."
Orders given, everyone split off
Hondo and Luca found the basement rather quickly
It only took a quick few minutes to clear it before they were back upstairs
"We've checked every room and closet upstairs, he's not there." Deacon alerted as he and Hicks came down the stairs "there''s no sign he ever was either."
"guys!" Tan called from the hallway
"What is it?" Hondo prompted as they joined him
"His knife's here." Tan announced "He still had it in the video."
"So they took it while moving him." Hicks shrugged
"Except other than this, there's no sign he was ever actually here." Tan continued "And if Luca hadn't already saved it to the SWAT computer, that video would be long gone."
"What's your point?" Hondo questioned
"Look at where the knife is, and it''s half open." Tan pointed "This is a map of LA, and this is where Streets old apartment is."
He paused, pointing at where the tip of the blade was
"This is where he and Luca live right now."
He pointed at the middle of the knife
"So what's there?" Hondo asked, pointing towards the end of the handle
"I don't know," Tan admitted "but those cant be a coincidence, right?"
"These two have already proven they're smart, they planned this." Hicks agreed "Let's figure out what's there"
"That's the motel where Nate was killed," Luca spoke up "where Street found him, where they used to meet up and get away from the bullshit when they were kids."
"Is it?" Hicks countered, looking again
"Yeah, it is." Hondo confirmed after taking a closer look
"Think that's where they took him?" Deacon cut in
"Well they used the knife Nate gave him and it happens to be pointing at his previous home, his current home, and the motel they used to escape to.. I'd say there's a possibility." Luca reasoned
"Why did we think this was the answer?" Tan scoffed
They had already cleared the whole motel, Street wasn't here and the manager said Richard and Amelia hadn't been here at all
"It was worth a shot, Tan." Hondo reasoned "We had to check it out."
"Well it was a waste of time." Luca retorted "We just wasted an hour here and found nothing. Any other ideas?"
"We already sent patrol to check out Streets old apartment and checked your house," Deacon paused, gesturing towards Luca "I don't know where else they could've put him."
"How long was it between the agreement and the trade time?" Hicks questioned
"A little over an hour." Deacon answered
"Are there any cameras in the area?" Luca asked, sharing a quick look with Hicks
"Maybe.." Hondo shrugged "What are you guys thinking?"
"A little over an hour, just enough time to get to long Beach and back." Luca started, getting confused looks "The knife was pointed at Street last home, current home, and he once told me that this motel became like his second home, was better than the group home he was in."
"Okay?"
"Last home, current home, second home." Hicks listed
"First home," Tan realized "in Long Beach"
"You mean the hellhole he was in as a kid?" Deacon corrected
"Still the only home he knew 'til he was twelve," Luca reasoned "and remember, Amelia and Richard went after him 'cause of Karen, and being in similar situations."
"Makes sense." Hondo agreed
"I say we check traffic cams for their car and see if we got them going down there." Tan suggested
"Let's go then." Hondo decided
"Amelia, Richard, and Toni were officially brought in, Toni is going back to prison, we're holding Amelia and Richard until we got Street back." Hicks informed
"we're about five minutes out from the house" Hondo responded "if he's not there, you gotta get in there and start questioning him, we know he's somewhere in long Beach"
"I know."
"Deacon, Tan, go around to the back door. Never know if he's guys had partners." Hondo reasoned
"Copy."
Hondo and Luca waited by the front door for a moment before Deacons voice came in
"In position."
"Breach."
They heard Deacon and Tan distantly at the same time they forced the front door open
"LAPD!"
They cleared the first room before they started hearing some banging
Hondo shared a look with Luca before they started heading towards it
Tan and Deacon got there a second later
A closed door to what was probably a bedroom
Hondo nodded for Tan to open it
The room was basically empty, aside from a bed, dresser, and a couple things on the floor, including a bloodstain on the floor
"Clear."
"So where is that noise coming from?" Luca wondered
"Sounds like over here." Tan alerted, standing by the dresser
"Well they shoved a cabinet in front of the crawlspace before." Deacon reminded
With the reminder, Tan and Luca started shoving the dresser out of the way
Low and behold, there was a closet door behind it
As soon as there was enough room, it opened
Street was against the back wall, and you could see that he kicked it open as his hands were behind his back
As soon as he took in who was there, he let out a breath he wasn't sure when he started holding
"Just gonna stand there?" Street muttered when they hadn't moved
Snapping out of it, Luca moved to help him up and out of the small space
He got out his knife, cutting the zip ties on Streets wrists
"Are you okay?" Deacon asked
"I wanna get the hell out of here." Street responded
"Twenty David to command," Hondo started "we got Street, could use an ambo."
"Copy that, ambo on the way." Hicks assured "Five minutes out."
"Let's go." Luca spoke up, starting to lead Street out of there
The others were close behind, save for Tan who stayed back another minute
"Any injuries we should know about?" Hondo prompted
"Nothin' you can't see." Street answered
"You sure?" Luca checked
"yes, I'm sure." Street insisted as they got to the front door before glancing back "Someone wanna go pull Tan from the down spiral he's about to be in?"
"What down spiral?" Deacon countered
"Just go get him." Street sighed
"Yeah, okay." Deacon headed back
"What were you guys able to find out about Amelia and Richard?" Street asked as they got to black Betty "Are those actually their names?"
"Yeah, Amelia and Richard Bevell. They wanted Amelia's mom let out of prison." Hondo confirmed as Luca opened the door so Street could st on the back "Toni, Amelia's mom, was in the same prison as yours."
"Really?"
"Yeah, that's how they knew what they knew, Karen told Toni, who told them." Luca added "Assuming you told your mom."
"Yeah, she knew," Street nodded "almost all of it.. Actually I don't remember telling her about the.. Closet.. Thing.."
"Could she have known without you telling her?" Luca questioned
"Mm-mm," Street shook his head "no, the only one that knew about that was Nate, and he wouldn't have told anyone."
"Who else could've overheard?" Hondo prompted "Anyone?"
"Not that I can think of.." Street denied
"we can figure it out later" Hondo decided
"yeah" Street agreed
"So.. What happened?" Luca started "We found your bike in a ditch about a mile from the house, what'd they do?"
"In total, complete, a hundred percent honesty, I have no fucking idea." Street admitted "The last thing I remember was pulling over to answer your text, then I woke up in their basement."
"Why pull over if you were that close to home?" Luca asked
"I was at least three miles out, I know that for a fact." Street corrected "I pulled into a parking lot, Mike's garage, it was the first opening I saw with just sitting on the side of the road."
"Mike has cameras," Luca recalled "we can use that"
"You know the owner?" Hondo checked
"I do. that's where I take my bike when I need to." Street informed
"Street gets a discount there." Luca added
"Mike's out of town but Tanya is there today, I think." Street finished
"Any chance you got her number?" Hondo asked
"Yeah." Street confirmed, automatically going for his phone before pausing "Any chance you guys grabbed my phone?"
"We didn't find it, they got rid of any evidence you were there." Luca answered
"Everything?"
"Except this," Luca continued, getting the knife out of his pocket "that's what led us here."
Street grabbed it from him, looking it over before clipping it to his pocket
"You can borrow mine." Hondo added, getting his phone out "Just give her a heads up that some officers will be on the way to get the footage, we'll send patrol for it."
"Got it." Street nodded, quickly dialing the number
By the time Street was done informing Tanya of the situation, with as little detail as possible but enough, Tan and Deacon came out of the house
Street didn't say anything as Tan sat next to him, just grabbed his hand
"Ambo should be here any second." Deacon pointed out, hearing the approaching sirens
"If they clear you, you can ride back with us." Hondo told him
"That's only gonna happen if he passes the concussion check and they deem the electrocution mild enough." Deacon reasoned
"Other than the blood, I see no reason to believe he has a concussion." Luca countered "The electrocution however-"
"Isn't cause for concern." Street cut in "It didn't hurt much."
"The fact it happened at all is cause for concern, and you are getting checked out by a doctor regardless of anything the paramedics say." Hondo ordered "And its not up for debate."
"Yeah yeah."
