Back... he... he was back!
It mattered very little to you where you were at the moment, but that flash of white hair... you'd know it anywhere! "Dante!" You didn't hesitate to run up and hug him, a shaky sigh leaving you. Such a good feeling vanished though when you were... pushed away.
What...?
You looked up at Dante, your eyes widening in horror when seeing such a blank expression on his face. No signature smirk, or grin... plus that look in his eyes... it was like someone ripped the light from them. A choked noise left you when you realized something- he wasn't wearing his red coat. No... instead he wore armor colored blue and silver respectively. He wore the armor belonging to a DARKCOM agent...!
"Poor little Alice."
A chill went down your spine when hearing that familiar voice... no, he was dead, Dante killed him-! You whipped around, a frightened yelp leaving you when seeing the White Rabbit looming over you. This eyes bearing straight into your very soul. You barely interacted with the man- as his main focus was getting Dante's necklace, but he addressed you as 'Alice' on the video the red and blue Demon had played for your boyfriend and everyone held captive on the government plane.
Mostly for Dante though.
Why he referred to you as 'Alice' you never quite understood. Was it because like Alice, you fell down a rabbit hole because of your relationship with the Demon hunter? Eh... probably a stretch, then again the guy was insane so... best not to think too hard on such a matter.
"If only you could've done more for your beloved half-Demon."
The White Rabbit's words made your heart drop and you swallowed thickly. "Now, he's locked away in a jar, frozen until DARKCOM sees fit to free him." You stood there, frozen in horror and fear as the White Rabbit circled around your form. Much like a vulture eyeing a fresh kill. Your whole body went still when he whispered in your ear as Dante gripped your chin in his gloved hand- forcing you to face him. His cold blue eyes staring straight at you. "Perhaps he really will end up like the Winter Soldier. Trigger words and all." The White Rabbit whispered in your ear, making your blood go cold at such a horrible scenario.
No, no, no, no, no!
"No! Stop- ah!" A frightened and then pained noise left you when you fell on your... bedroom floor. Bedroom? Oh... oh thank the dear Lord above! It was a nightmare! You groaned and rubbed at your side where you hit the floor, still tangled in your bed's sheet. It ran warm in your bedroom, so you didn't bother with a comforter. Honestly, you shouldn't be too surprised at this point... having a nightmare about Dante. You were surprised the White Rabbit snuck in there though... better than the Vice President at least.
You detangled yourself from the sheet, soon adjusting it before climbing back into bed. You stared up at the ceiling fan as it spun in the air. The remnants of the nightmare remained stuck to your mind, and as tired as you were... you were afraid to go back to sleep. "Come on..." You muttered to yourself as you yawned and curled up on your side. You had work the next morning- what time was it? Seeing the digital clock on your nightstand, you groaned in defeat when seeing it was an hour before you had to get up. "Screw it." Reaching for your phone on your nightstand, you sent a quick text to your boss to let them know you woke up feeling ill and would be in the next day.
It wasn't a complete lie, you did feel ill... in a sense. Besides, you hardly ever called in like this- except for the times in you were sick. You needed the money, the PTO, not to mention... you didn't want to call in unless it was a real emergency of some kind.
But after that nightmare... you needed a break.
And it was clear you needed something to get your mind off of it. So, slipping on your house slippers, you snatched a blanket you had on a chair in your room, wrapping it securely around your form- you headed into the living room.
Soon, you were enjoying a nice bowl of cereal whilst watching one of your favorite shows. It helped a little to get your mind out of the dark... but, you still worried. What if DARKCOM did try and... make Dante their Winter Soldier? While you enjoyed the MCU's Captain America: The Winter Soldier it was always a worrisome sight for Steve's friend, Bucky, being treated like a weapon rather than a person.
But this... this was Dante. And you weren't Steve Rogers, you were... just you.
You started down at your cereal, soon taking in another spoonful with a quiet sigh.
No superpowers, not even special training of any kind... would such abilities have made a difference in the end? Perhaps, or you could've ended up in a jar too- frozen and left to collect dust before being released.
Once your cereal was finished, you headed into the kitchen and began washing the bowl, your movements slow and tired. Once done, you curled up on the couch, your gaze remaining on the TV. Psych was always a nice comfort show to you. Your gaze remained fixated on the main female cast member, Juliet- sweet but knew her way around a gun, and a fight.
Could... could it be you? No... you didn't like guns, not to mention you barely knew how to throw a proper punch. Your father taught you how to prepare your fist for a punch- but that was it. You hummed in thought, soon turning on your back to stare up at the ceiling of your apartment. Maybe... maybe you could learn such things, why not? You didn't do anything besides work and attend mass at the local Catholic church. You licked your dry lips. Why not make good use of yourself in Dante's absence? Make something of yourself, take a swim in lake you...
You let out another quiet sigh, soon turning on your side so your back faced the TV, and you drifted off to sleep once again.
