Chapter Text
Beomgyu was the life of the school, renowned for his friendly demeanor and infectious laughter. He had a knack for making everyone feel included, and his jokes could lighten any mood. His charisma drew people in, creating an atmosphere of warmth and camaraderie wherever he went. However, everything changed when Yeonjun transferred from America to his class in sixth grade. From day one, Yeonjun was a sensation—captivating the hearts of all the girls and earning the admiration of the boys. His arrival was like a breath of fresh air, filled with excitement and new possibilities. But what stung Beomgyu the most was that Yeonjun had taken the one thing he cherished: music.
Beomgyu had always accepted one undeniable truth: Yeonjun was the best. It wasn’t just his musical talent that mesmerized everyone; it was the way he moved through the halls with effortless grace, as if the world was choreographed to his rhythm. Yeonjun had it all—natural talent, stunning looks, and a charm that could make anyone swoon. He was a force of nature, an unbeatable prodigy. While Beomgyu was undeniably talented, better than most in his own right, Yeonjun could do it all. He sang, danced, and navigated his social life with a finesse that made Beomgyu’s world feel rigid and unyielding. It didn’t seem fair that one person could possess such a wealth of talent.
Whispers echoed through the school about Yeonjun’s bright future in the music industry. Everyone believed he was destined for greatness, set to perform at major events within a few years. No one doubted it. Teachers praised him, friends idolized him, and even strangers were drawn to his magnetic presence. Meanwhile, Beomgyu felt like he was always a step behind, overshadowed, and resentful. Since Yeonjun’s arrival, Beomgyu had found it increasingly difficult to tolerate him. It wasn’t Hate or Jealousy, Beomgyu couldn’t figure what it was, but whenever he sees Yeonjun, it aches.
At school, it became was clear to everyone that Beomgyu and Yeonjun shared one thing: incredible talent. But that was where their similarities ended. Yeonjun dominated every aspect of the school; he was the top singer and dancer, effortlessly charming everyone in the room. The moment he stepped on stage, the spotlight was his. He didn’t just perform; he owned the stage. His energy was palpable, and audiences were captivated by his every move.
In contrast, while Beomgyu was very good—his vocal range impressive and his dancing sharp and fluid—he could never match Yeonjun’s effortless grace. Beomgyu had worked tirelessly, pouring hours into practice, honing his skills, and striving for perfection. Yet, no matter how hard he tried, he felt as if he were always chasing a shadow. Yeonjun’s performances were seamless, a perfect blend of singing and dancing that left audiences breathless. His movements were imbued with an energy that seemed intrinsic to him, as if music flowed through his veins.
Beomgyu had watched Yeonjun perform at competitions, awed by his flawless voice and the way he transitioned between styles with ease. Each time, a pang of envy struck Beomgyu. How could someone be so good at everything? It was as if Yeonjun had been born to shine. The admiration from their peers only deepened Beomgyu’s feelings of inadequacy. He felt trapped in a cycle of comparison, each of Yeonjun's successes amplifying his own insecurities.
Oblivious to Beomgyu’s feelings, Yeonjun saw him merely as a distant classmate. He didn’t understand why Beomgyu often shot him death stares or made fun of his every mistake. Yeonjun was genuinely friendly, always willing to lend a hand or share advice, but Beomgyu’s resentment clouded his judgment. And that made Yeonjun frustrated by Beomgyu’s behavior, he chose not to engage. He believed that competition could be healthy, a way to push each other to improve. However, as Beomgyu’s teasing escalated, Yeonjun’s patience began to wear thin, igniting their rivalry.
Since then, they clashed over everything, from small classroom debates to larger competitions. When it came to dancing, Yeonjun never faltered. He seemed to glide across the floor, each movement precise and fluid. The way he connected with the music was something Beomgyu could only dream of achieving. These competitions against Beomgyu only fueled his determination. He admired Beomgyu’s talent but was unwilling to lose.
As the rivalry intensified, Beomgyu began to feel isolated. Friends who once rallied around him started drifting towards Yeonjun. They were drawn to his charisma, his ability to light up a room. Beomgyu found himself sitting alone at lunch, his laughter replaced by silence. He couldn’t shake the feeling that he was losing not just a competition, but also the friendships that had once defined his school experience.
Amid this turmoil, Beomgyu decided to confront his feelings. He started to write songs, pouring his emotions into lyrics that captured his struggles and frustrations. Music became his refuge, a way to express himself without the fear of judgment. He would spend late nights in his room, strumming his guitar and crafting melodies that reflected his inner turmoil.
One day, during a school festival, Beomgyu decided to perform one of his original songs. As he stepped onto the stage, his heart raced, and he felt the weight of his insecurities. The moment he began to sing, however, a transformation occurred. The raw emotion in his voice resonated with the audience, and he found himself lost in the music. For the first time, he felt a sense of liberation.
As Beomgyu finished his performance, the applause was thunderous. He looked out into the crowd and saw Yeonjun, smiling genuinely, clapping enthusiastically. In that moment, Beomgyu he felt happy, seeing the one who he always saw shine, watching him like that. He saw his eyes sparklers as he was clapping for him.
After the show, Yeonjun approached Beomgyu, extending a hand in congratulations. “You were amazing” he said, his voice sincere. “I had no idea you could write like that.” Beomgyu was taken aback, the unexpected compliment breaking down some of the walls he had built around himself. “I’ve been working on it” Beomgyu replied, a hint of vulnerability in his voice. “I guess I just wanted to find my own place in all of this.” Yeonjun nodded, understanding dawning in his eyes. “I wish you all the best.” But unfortunately to Beomgyu, he won the second place. Yeonjun was the first, again.
As the years rolled on, Beomgyu and Yeonjun’s rivalry only intensified, ultimately leading them both to the same prestigious art university, where the stakes would be even higher. Yeonjun’s popularity continued to soar; he never lost a competition he entered, becoming the top star—the kind of star that people either admired or envied. He was the star no one could reach, shining brighter with each passing day. For Beomgyu, the journey was different. He kept improving, honing his craft, and even formed his own band at university. While he was popular, he still felt overshadowed by Yeonjun’s brilliance.
The bustling cafeteria was filled with students chatting and laughing, the air thick with energy and excitement. Beomgyu slumped into a chair across from Soobin, visibly frustrated, his tray untouched. Soobin, ever observant, noticed Beomgyu’s bad mood. “Hey, what’s wrong? You look like someone just stole your lunch” he joked, trying to lighten the atmosphere.
Beomgyu groaned in frustration, running a hand through his hair. “It’s Yeonjun again! He won the talent show last night, and I swear, it’s getting old! I was only two points less than him; this is unfair!”
Soobin took a sip of his drink, raising an eyebrow. “I thought you did great! Your original song was really touching. That’s what matters. You were good; the lyrics were so moving I loved it.”
Beomgyu smiled slightly, appreciating the compliment. “Thanks, man, but it doesn’t matter! Yeonjun performed that flashy medley, and everyone went wild for him. It’s like he has a magic spell on the audience or something.”
Soobin leaned forward; his expression serious. “You know it’s not just about flash, right? He’s talented, but so are you. This obsession with him is getting a little scary, man.”
Beomgyu leaned back in his chair, crossing his arms. “I know, I know. But it feels like no matter how hard I try, I’m always in his shadow. It’s like he’s got this endless supply of charm and talent, and I’m just… me. And I am not obsessed with that freak.”
Soobin looked at him, confused but concerned. “You’re being too hard on yourself. You have your own style, and people appreciate that. I appreciate that. Just stop watching him and focus on you.”
Beomgyu sighed, knowing what Soobin said was true, but something inside him couldn’t help it. There was something about Yeonjun he couldn’t explain—he felt both anger and envy toward him, but he never hated him. Deep down, he wanted to be like him, and that thought made him feel even angrier. “But it’s not enough! Everyone’s talking about Yeonjun being the next big thing. I just want to be recognized for my music, too. I want to be better than him.”
Soobin sighed, trying to offer support. “You will be! You just need to keep pushing yourself. Maybe try a different approach next time? Instead of thinking about what Yeonjun might do, think about what you will do.”
Beomgyu nodded slowly, contemplating Soobin’s words. “Yeah, maybe. But it’s hard when he makes it look so easy. I can’t help but feel like I’m always competing against a superstar.”
Soobin patted him on the head, a gesture of encouragement. “You are a superstar in your own right, Beomgyu. Just remember, it’s not a race. Focus on what makes you happy, not just on beating Yeonjun.”
Beomgyu cracked a small smile, feeling a little lighter. “Thanks, Soobin. I guess I just need to find my own groove. But still, I’m not letting him win next time!”
Soobin grinned; his enthusiasm infectious. “That’s the spirit! Now, let’s get some food and brainstorm ways to make your next performance unforgettable!” As they continued to chat, Beomgyu felt a flicker of determination, ready to channel his frustration into something positive.
The cafeteria buzzed with energy as students gathered for lunch. Beomgyu sat at a table with Soobin, still feeling the weight of last night’s talent show. Suddenly, the atmosphere shifted as Yeonjun and Taehyun walked in. Yeonjun was grinning, waving at friends. “Hey, everyone! Did you see my performance last night?” The room erupted in cheers and applause. Students rushed over to congratulate him, surrounding him and Taehyun.
Taehyun laughed proudly at his best friend. “You really know how to work a crowd, don’t you? They love you!”
Beomgyu watched from his table, his expression darkening as he gripped his fork tightly. “Ugh, here we go again,” he muttered. Soobin noticed Beomgyu’s frustration. “Hey, it’s just a little excitement. You can’t blame them for loving his performance.”Beomgyu looked at him, pouting. “It’s not just excitement, Soobin! It’s like he’s the main character in this school, and I’m just… background noise. So frustrating!”
As Yeonjun posed for selfies and laughed with his fans, Beomgyu’s frown deepened. Soobin understood how talented Yeonjun was and empathized with Beomgyu’s feelings, but he couldn’t blame Yeonjun for being good. Yeonjun was always nice to others, including himself. Soobin had even seen Yeonjun helping clean the practice rooms, always lending a hand to students, teachers, and even the janitor. He knew that Beomgyu didn’t hate Yeonjun as a person; he just wanted to be the best like him.
“You’re not background noise! You have your own people, too. Remember that; your band is famous in and out of the university” Soobin reminded him. Beomgyu looked down sadly and nodded. “Yeah, but it doesn’t feel like it right now. Look at him! He’s got that effortless charm, and everyone adores him. No matter how hard I work, it still feels like it’s not enough.”
Yeonjun continued to bask in the attention, completely unaware of Beomgyu’s presence. Beomgyu’s frustration grew as he watched the scene unfold. Taehyun turned to look at where Beomgyu and Soobin were sitting, noticing how Beomgyu was watching Yeonjun. He didn’t like the tension between them; Yeonjun his best friend and didn’t want him to get hurt by anyone or anything.
After a few moments of silence, Beomgyu glanced at Soobin. “Maybe we should just head out. I’m not really feeling good right now.” Soobin nodded in agreement. “Alright. Let’s go grab some fresh air.”
As they stood up to leave, Beomgyu took one last look at Yeonjun, who was still surrounded by admirers, laughing and enjoying the moment. ‘You are shining so bright; no one can outshine you,’ he thought bitterly.
As Beomgyu and Soobin walked toward the exit, Yeonjun happened to glance over just in time to see them leaving. A brief look of surprise crossed his face, but he didn’t call out. Instead, he smiled softly as he watched Beomgyu walking away. He wanted to congratulate him on winning and tell him that his song was so good, but he knew Beomgyu might misinterpret it as mockery.
Yeonjun admired Beomgyu’s hard work. When they were kids, it had been frustrating how much Beomgyu annoyed him with their competition, but over time, he began to adore Beomgyu and was amazed by his talent. Taehyun noticed the silent exchange between them and sighed as he grabbed his food. “Idiots” he muttered under his breath, shaking his head at the complexity of their relationship.
Outside, the fresh air felt rejuvenating. Beomgyu took a deep breath, trying to shake off the negativity that had clouded his mind. Soobin nudged him playfully. “Hey, let’s brainstorm some ideas for your next performance. You’ve got this!”
As they walked, Beomgyu felt a spark of inspiration. Maybe it was time to embrace his own style and let his music speak for itself. With Soobin and Kai by his side, he was determined to carve out his own path, one that didn’t rely on comparisons to Yeonjun. After all, every star had its own light, and he was ready to shine in his own way.
Few weeks later, in the auditorium buzzed with excitement as students gathered for the annual talent competition. Beomgyu sat with his friends, glancing around the room, his heart racing with anticipation. His eyes landed on Kai, who was laughing with his group, and a small smile crept onto Beomgyu's face. They exchanged glances filled with hope and excitement. Beomgyu had been praying to be paired with Kai, his bandmate. They had practiced their routine thoroughly, and he was hopeful that this time, they could beat Yeonjun.
Leaning in closer to Soobin and Kai, who was sitting next to Soobin, Beomgyu whispered, “I really hope I get paired with Kai. We’d totally crush it.” Kai nodded enthusiastically, his eyes sparkling with confidence. Soobin raised an eyebrow, fully aware of the fierce rivalry between Beomgyu and Yeonjun. “You do realize Yeonjun is a strong contender, right? He’s got the skills too.”
Beomgyu sighed, his gaze drifting back to Kai, who looked back at him with an encouraging smile. “Who is Soobin? I don’t have a friend named Soobin” Kai joked, and they all burst into laughter, the tension momentarily dissipating.
When the teacher stepped onto the stage, the crowd quieted down. “Welcome, everyone! Today, we’ll be pairing students for a special team challenge. The winning team will receive a first prize trip to a beautiful island! As you all know, this will be a random pick by drawing names from this jar.” The crowd erupted in cheers; excitement palpable in the air. Beomgyu glanced at Yeonjun, who was staring at the stage with a smile on his face, confidence radiating from him. Beomgyu thought to himself, *Prepare yourself, Choi Yeonjun; I will crush you this time. *
As the host began announcing the pairs, Beomgyu felt a mix of excitement and anxiety. His heart raced as he watched the names being called, hoping for Kai’s name or at least someone he could work well with if it wasn’t Kai. “And for our final pair, we have… Beomgyu and Yeonjun!” The room fell silent for a moment before erupting into applause and screams. Beomgyu’s eyes widened in shock, while Yeonjun’s expression mirrored his surprise. Taehyun, who was sitting nearby, let out a loud sigh, clearly exasperated by the unexpected pairing.
Beomgyu’s excitement deflated, disappointment washing over him like a cold wave. “Great. Just what I needed” he muttered under his breath. He watched as Yeonjun approached him with a bright smile. “Hey partner, let’s do our best!”
But Beomgyu couldn’t muster a smile in return. Instead, he muttered, “Of course. Just my luck.” It was loud enough for Yeonjun to hear, and he nudged Beomgyu playfully. “This could be great! We can totally getwin this together.”
Beomgyu glanced at Yeonjun, trying to mask his frustration. He turned away, mumbling, and complaining to himself as he walked off. Yeonjun stood there watching him struggle, unable to suppress a smile. “You’re being so obvious, man” he said, turning to see Taehyun standing beside him.
“Well, can’t be helped” Yeonjun replied, shaking his head as he watched Beomgyu storm off.
As the competition kicked off, Beomgyu and Yeonjun found themselves brainstorming ideas for their performance. They sat at a table littered with notes and sketches, the atmosphere tense with unspoken rivalry. Beomgyu sighed, unable to shake off his overthinking. He wanted to win against Yeonjun, not with him. Frustrated, he approached the teacher, asking to change the pairing, but the teacher refused, citing the rules of the challenge.
Yeonjun looked at Beomgyu, understanding the weight of the situation. “I know you hate me, okay? I get it. But we can still make this work. We both want to win, right? Because if we don’t work together, we won’t win anything and will just become the joke in front of everyone.”
Beomgyu hesitated, feeling the pressure of his decision. Deep down, he knew that teaming up with Yeonjun could lead to victory. “Yeah, I guess so. I just… I don’t want to regret this. So, what’s the plan?”
Yeonjun hummed thoughtfully before suggesting, “How about we do a cover of ‘Gotta Go’? You know it, right?”
Beomgyu raised an eyebrow, skeptical but intrigued. “You really think we can pull that off?”
Yeonjun smiled proudly, confidence shining in his eyes. “Absolutely! We’ve both got the skills. Plus, we can play off each other’s strengths.”
Beomgyu felt a flicker of hope at Yeonjun’s words, but he was also shocked. *What does he mean by “each other’s strengths”? * Yeonjun believed he had strengths that he didn’t see in himself, and that made Beomgyu feel unexpectedly happy, though he didn’t want to admit it.
As they began to work on their performance, Beomgyu found himself slowly warming up to the idea of collaborating with Yeonjun. They started to harmonize their voices, blending their styles in a way that felt surprisingly natural. The initial tension began to fade as they discovered a rhythm that worked for both of them.
“Let’s try it again, but this time, let’s add a little more energy” Yeonjun suggested, his enthusiasm infectious. Beomgyu nodded, feeling a surge of determination. Maybe this unexpected pairing could lead to something great after all.
As they continued to practice, Beomgyu realized that perhaps he had misjudged Yeonjun. Beneath the flashy exterior, there was a genuine passion for music that they both shared. With each note they sang together, Beomgyu felt a sense of camaraderie growing between them, and for the first time, he considered the possibility that they could have a better relationship with each other.
As the music began and their voices intertwined, Beomgyu felt a rush of adrenaline. This was their moment to shine, and he was determined to give it his all—alongside Yeonjun, the rival who had become an unexpected ally.
As Beomgyu and Yeonjun practiced together, Beomgyu began to see a side of Yeonjun he had never noticed before. Yeonjun was incredibly hardworking, pushing himself to the limit without a hint of annoyance at Beomgyu’s mistakes. Instead, he patiently guided Beomgyu, helping him correct each misstep with a smile.
One evening, after a long practice session, Beomgyu was so tired and wanted to go home but they needed to clean the place first. “You should go home and rest” Yeonjun suggested, his voice warm yet firm. “I’ll clean up here.”Beomgyu shook his head. “No way! We both worked hard today. Let’s do it together.”
Yeonjun chuckled, “You’re too kind, but really, I don’t mind. You look tired, I am fine” However, Beomgyu insisted, and they stayed to tidy up the space. As they cleaned, Yeonjun ordered food for them both. Beomgyu noticed that Yeonjun would take only a few bites before laying down to rest, his body clearly exhausted. He never knew this Yeonjun, who cares about his diet, works so hard, push himself beyond the limit. He stared at sleeping Yeonjun, feeling something weird thinking * he look so cute sleeping so peacefully* but he shock that thought away fast.
It was during one of these moments that Beomgyu caught sight of Yeonjun’s arms and legs, bruises scattered across his skin. A wave of concern washed over him. “Are you okay?” Beomgyu asked, his voice laced with worry. “Yeah, just pushed a little too hard during practice” Yeonjun replied with a casual shrug, but Beomgyu could see the fatigue etched on his face.
Slowly, Beomgyu began to feel more comfortable with Yeonjun, treating him with more kindness than before. They laughed over small mistakes, shared encouragement, and gradually built a rhythm that felt effortless.
Two days before the competition, as they wrapped up another successful practice, Beomgyu exclaimed, “Wow, we did it! It’s perfect!” Yeonjun beamed back at him. “See? I told you we could do it! We’re winning this for sure. Good job, Beomgyu.”
“Thanks! You helped a lot” Beomgyu replied, feeling a swell of gratitude. “back at you, you are already amazing Beomgyu. Anyways you can go back if you want; I’ll clean everything.” Yeonjun smiled, but it faded when he saw Beomgyu started to clean “You don’t have to—”
But Beomgyu interrupted, “No, I want to help today and buy you dinner tonight and you will accept it” Yeonjun was shocked but couldn’t hide his smile. “Okay, I’ll accept that offer.”
On the day of the competition, the auditorium was packed with students buzzing with excitement. Beomgyu and Yeonjun stood backstage, nerves bubbling beneath the surface. Beomgyu took a deep breath, trying to calm himself. “Okay, no matter what happens, let’s just give it our all.”
Yeonjun smiled reassuringly. “We’ve got this. Just remember to have fun!”
When it was their turn, they stepped onto the stage, the bright lights momentarily blinding them. As the music began, Beomgyu felt a rush of adrenaline. They moved seamlessly together, their chemistry evident as they sang and performed. The energy in the room shifted, the audience captivated by their performance. Cheers and claps erupted, filling the space with encouragement.
As they finished, the crowd erupted into applause, and Beomgyu couldn’t help but smile. For the first time, he truly enjoyed himself. He had always been so focused on beating Yeonjun that he had forgotten the joy of performing.
When he looked at Yeonjun, he saw him breathing heavily but wearing a broad smile. Their eyes locked, and Beomgyu felt something shift within him. It was as if they were shining together, not just as rivals but as partners. He didn’t understand it, is this is what he was looking for? But why its with Yeonjun not against him. is this what he really wanted but he got confused?
However, as Beomgyu smiled at Yeonjun, he noticed Yeonjun’s smile faded on a shock on his face. Yeonjun quickly turned his face away, leaving Beomgyu confused. *What just happened? * Beomgyu thought, He can see Yeonjun’s ear so red. feeling a mix of concern and curiosity.
“Hey, are you okay?” Beomgyu asked, stepping closer, his brow furrowed in confusion. Yeonjun hesitated before meeting Beomgyu’s gaze again, his expression unreadable. “Yeah, I’m fine. Just… a bit overwhelmed, I guess.” Beomgyu nodded, sensing there was more to it but deciding not to press further. Instead, he offered a reassuring smile. “You were amazing out there. We really did it!” Yeonjun’s eyes softened at Beomgyu’s words, a flicker of warmth crossing his face. “Thanks, Beomgyu. I couldn’t have done it without you.”
As they exited the stage, the applause still ringing in their ears, Beomgyu felt a newfound respect for Yeonjun. Maybe this rivalry wasn’t just about competition; perhaps it was about growth, friendship, and finding common ground.
After all the performances, the host returned to the stage with an envelope in hand. “And now, for the moment we’ve all been waiting for! The winners of this year’s talent competition… Beomgyu and Yeonjun! congratulation” The audience erupted into cheers, and Beomgyu’s jaw dropped in disbelief. His heart raced as he processed the announcement.
Yeonjun smiled proudly, his eyes sparkling with joy. As they walked up to accept their prize, he leaned in and whispered to Beomgyu, “Told you we would win!”
Beomgyu rolled his eyes, a playful smirk on his face. “Yeah, yeah, Mr. Perfect.” Yeonjun laughed, and Beomgyu couldn’t help but shake his head in amazement. A grin spread across his face as they made their way to the stage to accept their trophy. Beomgyu Held the trophy tightly, Beomgyu’s eyes sparkled with excitement. “I can’t believe we actually won!”
Yeonjun looked at him fondly. “You did amazing, Beomgyu. This win was thanks to you” Beomgyu felt a warmth spread through him at Yeonjun’s words. As Yeonjun left the trophy with Beomgyu, he walked over to Taehyun, wrapping his arms around him in a celebratory hug. Beomgyu watched them, feeling a strange emptiness as he saw Yeonjun walk away, the distance between them growing.
Suddenly, he was jolted back to reality by the enthusiastic cheers from Soobin and Kai. “You were amazing, Beomgyu! Congratulations!” they shouted, their voices ringing in his ears.
“Thanks, guys!” Beomgyu replied, smiling widely. Students gathered around him, showering him with praise, and he felt a mix of happiness and confusion. *Shouldn’t they be celebrating with Yeonjun? *
He glanced over at Yeonjun, who was leaning against the wall, talking to Taehyun. Yeonjun looked tired and sad, and Beomgyu couldn’t shake the worry that crept into his mind. *Is everything okay with him? * But he tried to push the thought away and enjoy the moment, focusing on the cheers and congratulations surrounding him.
A week after that day, the sun shone brightly as Beomgyu and Yeonjun stood at the bus station, luggage in hand. The excitement of their recent victory still lingered in the air, but Beomgyu’s mood was anything but celebratory. He crossed his arms, frowning. “I can’t believe we actually won this trip. I didn’t sign up for a vacation with you.”
Yeonjun, looking visibly tired, tried to brush off the tension. “Come on, Beomgyu. We worked hard for this! Let’s fun.” Beomgyu rolled his eyes, annoyance bubbling up. “Fun? You mean annoying. You’re just going to hog all the attention like usual.”
Yeonjun sighed, rubbing his temples in frustration. “Can we please stop this rival battle? I just want to enjoy the trip without all this drama. I need a break. I’ll stay far away from you if that’s what you want.” Beomgyu glared at him, but sensing Yeonjun’s fatigue, he reluctantly nodded. He felt a twinge of guilt; he had never seen Yeonjun like this before. “Fine.” Yeonjun sighed in relief. “Thank you.”
As they boarded the bus, Yeonjun settled into his seat, leaning back with a deep sigh. The weight of expectations was evident on his face, and Beomgyu couldn’t help but feel worried. He sat on the opposite side of the bus, stealing glances at Yeonjun, who fell asleep almost immediately. Beomgyu remained distant, but his concern grew with each passing moment. *He looks so exhausted…*
Once they arrived at their destination, Yeonjun perked up, eager to explore. “I’m going for a walk to check out that market over there!” he announced, his eyes bright with excitement.
Beomgyu rolled his eyes but found himself following along, still feeling remnants of frustration. “You don’t have to come with me” Yeonjun said, confusion evident in his tone.
“I want to check it out, so I’m going with you,” Beomgyu replied, his voice a mix of annoyance and concern. The truth was, he was worried about Yeonjun’s well-being and want to stay by his side.
As they wandered through the market, Yeonjun’s gentle enthusiasm began to soften Beomgyu’s mood. Stalls filled with vibrant colors and enticing scents surrounded them, and Beomgyu found himself drawn into the experience.
“Look at this!” Yeonjun exclaimed, pointing at a stall filled with handmade trinkets. His excitement was contagious, and Beomgyu couldn’t help but smile. *How can he be this perfect? So cute * he thought, watching Yeonjun’s eyes light up with joy.
The more they explored, the more Beomgyu marveled at Yeonjun’s cuteness and kindness. It was as if each moment spent together chipped away at the walls of rivalry they had built. They laughed over small things, shared stories, and slowly, the tension between them began to dissolve.
“Thanks for coming with me” Yeonjun said, glancing at Beomgyu with a genuine smile. “I know you didn’t want to at first.” Beomgyu shrugged, trying to play it cool. “I guess it’s not so bad. Just don’t get used to it.” Yeonjun chuckled, “Deal.”
As they continued to explore the market, Beomgyu felt a warmth growing inside him. This trip might just be the beginning of something new—a friendship that transcended rivalry, built on mutual respect and understanding.
Later, as they sat down to eat, Beomgyu noticed how Yeonjun carefully picked his food, sharing bites with him without hesitation. There was a warmth in Yeonjun’s smile that Beomgyu hadn’t seen before, a softness that made his heart flutter.
"You really like this place, huh?" Beomgyu asked, trying to keep the conversation light.
Yeonjun smiled softly, his eyes reflecting the glow of the lanterns around them. “Yeah, it’s nice to just relax and not worry about everything back home.”
Beomgyu watched Yeonjun closely, noticing the tiredness and sadness in his eyes—a stark contrast to the vibrant persona he usually projected. A pang of empathy shot through him. *What’s weighing on you, Yeonjun? *
When they arrived back at the hotel after a long day, the atmosphere was filled with a sense of relief and comfort. Yeonjun, exhausted from the day's activities, quickly succumbed to sleep as soon as he laid down on the soft, inviting bed. His features relaxed, and a serene expression settled on his face, making him look almost ethereal in the dim light of the room.
On the opposite side, Beomgyu had just stepped out of the shower, the warm water still lingering on his skin. He wrapped a towel around his waist and took a moment to gather his thoughts. As he sat on his own bed, he glanced over at Yeonjun, who was now peacefully asleep. There was something captivating about the way Yeonjun's chest rose and fell with each breath, and Beomgyu found himself unable to tear his gaze away.
*What is this feeling? * he pondered, his heart racing with an unfamiliar mix of emotions. It was as if a magnetic force was pulling him closer, urging him to bridge the distance between them. Beomgyu felt a flutter in his stomach, a strange combination of excitement and anxiety that he couldn't quite understand.
Compelled by an irresistible urge, he slowly moved closer to Yeonjun's bed. Each step felt monumental, as if he were crossing an invisible line. When he finally reached Yeonjun, he hesitated for a moment, taking in the peacefulness of his friend’s sleeping face. Without fully realizing what he was doing, Beomgyu leaned in, his heart pounding in his chest. He pressed his lips softly against Yeonjun’s, feeling a surge of warmth wash over him.
But just as quickly as he had leaned in, he pulled away, panic flooding his mind. He glanced at Yeonjun, terrified that he might have woken him. The relief that washed over him when he saw that Yeonjun remained asleep was palpable. Beomgyu’s heart raced, a whirlwind of emotions swirling within him. What had he just done?
Lying back on his own bed, Beomgyu turned to face Yeonjun, his thoughts racing. *What am I doing?* he wondered, the weight of his actions pressing down on him. *Why can't I stop staring at him? * The questions echoed in his mind like a haunting melody. He felt a strange mix of guilt and exhilaration. *Why did I kiss him? * The memory of the brief contact lingered on his lips, igniting a desire he had never felt before.
As he lay there, lost in contemplation, Beomgyu couldn't shake the feeling that this moment was significant, that it held the potential for something deeper and more meaningful. The uncertainty mixed with excitement left him restless, and he found himself yearning for more than just a fleeting kiss. A desire to explore the possibilities of their relationship began to blossom within him, and he felt an overwhelming urge to reach out, to connect with Yeonjun in ways he had never imagined.
What if this was the beginning of something beautiful? What if the bond they shared could evolve into something more profound? Beomgyu felt a stirring in his heart, a hope that perhaps their relationship could transform into something deeper. He imagined what it would be like to kiss Yeonjun again, to hold him close, to share secrets and dreams under the stars.
As the night wore on, Beomgyu found himself caught in a whirlwind of emotions. Each passing moment only deepened his feelings for Yeonjun, and he knew that he would have to confront these emotions sooner or later. But for now, he was content to simply watch Yeonjun sleep, cherishing the quiet intimacy of the moment and dreaming of what could be.
As the days passed, the two began to bond more deeply. They shared laughter, explored new places, and had deep conversations late into the night. One evening, they found themselves sitting by the beach, the stars twinkling above them like diamonds scattered across a velvet sky.
“You know, I thought this trip would be a disaster. But it’s actually… nice” Beomgyu admitted shyly.
Yeonjun chuckled, his eyes sparkling in the moonlight. “I told you! Sometimes it’s good to let go of the rivalry and just enjoy the moment.”
Beomgyu nodded, realizing how much he had come to appreciate Yeonjun’s company. He saw a side of Yeonjun that was gentle and sweet, someone who wanted to enjoy life without the pressures of competition. “I guess I was too caught up in my own head. You’re not so bad, Yeonjun.”
Yeonjun smiled, relief washing over him. Even in the dark, Beomgyu could see the blush creeping across Yeonjun’s cheeks as he stared at him with soft, longing eyes and that made Beomgyu’s Heart skip a beat, he looked at Yeonjun’s lips, remembering the kiss.
“I stopped seeing you as a rival a long time ago, Beomgyu.” Yeonjun shifted his gaze to the stars. “I see you as someone I admire a lot, someone who helped me bring out the best in myself.”
Beomgyu was speechless. He didn’t fully understand what Yeonjun meant, but his heart beating fast. *He doesn’t hate me. He sees me as someone important. * Confusion washed over him, but there was also a sense of relief.
They sat in comfortable silence, the tension of their past rivalry fading away. This trip became a turning point in their relationship, filled with laughter, shared experiences, and a newfound understanding of each other.
By the end of the trip, they returned home, the bus stop bustling with students. “goodbye Beomgyu” Yeonjun said, turning to walk home.
“Bye” Beomgyu replied, but as he watched Yeonjun walk away, he noticed a sadness in his smile. *Why does he look sad? Everything was all good until we got out the bus and he looks so sad *
Confused, Beomgyu ran to catch up, grabbing Yeonjun’s arm to stop him. “What’s your deal?”
Yeonjun looked surprised. “What?”
“Why are you acting all sad now?” Beomgyu pressed, holding onto him tightly.
Yeonjun smiled sadly again. “The trip is over now, Beomgyu. We’ll go back to the same rivalry thing, right? I’m just tired of it.”
Beomgyu let go, feeling a sting in his heart. “Why does it bother you? You said it motivated you to do your best, right?”
“Before it did, until I screwed it up, I am too tired to do it again” Yeonjun replied, looking down.
“What do you mean? What did you do?” Beomgyu felt a growing unease; Yeonjun looked defeated, and he hated that look on him.
Yeonjun sighed, taking a moment to gather his thoughts. “I have nothing to lose” he whispered to himself, but Beomgyu heard it “... Beomgyu, this might sound disgusting to you, but…” He paused, his voice trembling. “I love you, Beomgyu. Yeah, it sounds like a joke, but I fell in love with you.”
Beomgyu was speechless, shocked, and confused. “You… love me?” he asked again, disbelief etched on his face. He was lost, since when? Why? Is he playing with his feelings? “Beomgyu… I—” Yeonjun reached out, wanting to touch him, to bridge the gap between them.
But in a moment of panic, Beomgyu punched him hard, sending Yeonjun sprawling to the ground. He stared at Yeonjun’s bleeding lips, shock coursing through him.
Without another word, Beomgyu turned and ran away, leaving Yeonjun on the ground, laughter escaping his lips—bitter and hollow. Tears streamed down his cheeks as he whispered to himself, “You’re pathetic, Yeonjun.”
As Beomgyu ran, his heart raced, a whirlwind of emotions churning inside him. *What just happened? * Confusion and regret battled within him, but he couldn’t shake off the fear that had taken over.
Meanwhile, Yeonjun remained on the ground, feeling the weight of his confession and the sting of rejection. *Why did I say that? * he thought, wiping his tears with the back of his hand. The warmth of their shared moments felt like a distant memory now, replaced by the cold reality of unrequited feelings.
The trip had changed everything, but now, standing alone in the fading light, both boys were left to grapple with the new dynamics of their relationship—one filled with unspoken words and unresolved feelings.
A few days passed, and the air between Beomgyu and Yeonjun grew heavy with unspoken words. Yeonjun avoided Beomgyu completely, not even glancing in his direction. He was laser-focused, pushing himself harder in practice and any competition Beomgyu joined. Whenever Beomgyu was around, Yeonjun would either avoid him or leave as soon as he knew Beomgyu was participating.
Beomgyu felt a knot of anxiety tighten in his chest. He noticed Yeonjun’s absence, the way he seemed to retreat into himself, surrounded by others yet utterly distant. It hurt to see the person he had begun to appreciate so much shutting him out.
Soobin, ever observant, noticed the shift in Beomgyu’s demeanor. “What happened?” he asked, concern etched on his face.
“Everything was good until I ruined it” Beomgyu confessed, his voice heavy with regret. He explained the events of the trip, the confession, and the punch that had shattered their fragile connection.
“Wow, to think he had feelings for you all this time, yet you punched him! No wonder he’s avoiding you” Soobin sighed, shaking his head in disbelief.
“I panicked! I didn’t mean it that way,” Beomgyu replied, frustration bubbling up. “I thought of so many things that could be wrong with him, but not this. I always… saw him as my rival, but now that I see the true him, I don’t know how I feel. But why me?”
Soobin placed a reassuring hand on Beomgyu’s shoulder. “I told you before, Beomgyu, you’re also shining. You were just too focused on his shine to notice how others see you, including Yeonjun.”
Guilt washed over Beomgyu, tightening the knot in his chest. “I want to at least apologize for hitting him. even if he wont forgive me or agree to be friends”
Soobin nodded, his expression softening. “Try to talk to him when he’s alone later in the practice room. It might be your best chance.”
Later that day, Beomgyu found himself standing outside the practice room, his heart racing. He took a deep breath, steeling himself for what he hoped would be a chance to mend things with Yeonjun.
As he pushed the door open, he found Yeonjun alone, practicing diligently, the sound of his movements sharp and precise. Beomgyu hesitated at the doorway, watching Yeonjun’s focused expression. There was a beauty in the way he poured himself into his craft, but it was tinged with a sadness that Beomgyu couldn’t ignore.
“Yeonjun?” Beomgyu called softly, stepping inside.
Yeonjun paused, his body tense. He turned slowly; his expression unreadable. “What do you want?”
The coldness in Yeonjun’s voice pierced Beomgyu’s heart. “I… I wanted to talk. Can we?”
Yeonjun sighed, his shoulders slumping slightly. “I’m busy.”
“Please,” Beomgyu pressed, desperation creeping into his voice. “I just want to apologize.”
Yeonjun’s gaze flickered with something—hurt, maybe?—before he turned back to his practice. “I don’t think there’s anything to talk about and you have nothing to apologize for”
Beomgyu stepped closer, his heart pounding. “I know I messed up. I didn’t mean to hurt you, and I’m really sorry for what I did. I panicked when you confessed, and I didn’t realize what I did except for later”
Yeonjun paused again, his back still turned to Beomgyu. “You don’t have to pretend to care now, Beomgyu. I am not mad at you; I am mad at myself. I told you I am just tried of what we used to do and want to stop it.” Yeonjun tried to smile but he was hurt, and the smile showed it.
“No, it’s not!” Beomgyu insisted, frustration bubbling over. “I’ve been thinking about everything. I was so caught up in my own feelings that I didn’t see how much you meant to me until it was too late. I thought I hated you, but I realize now that I was just scared.”
Yeonjun finally turned to face him, his expression a mix of anger and pain. “Scared of what? That I loved you?.”
“no… what I feel about you” Beomgyu replied, his voice trembling. “But I want to understand. I want to fix this. I don’t want to lose you. I want to know how I truly feel about you. I’ve been so focused on my own insecurities that I didn’t take the time to understand you," Beomgyu continued, his heart racing. "I realized that I’ve always seen you as a rival, but now… I see you as someone I admire. I just didn’t know how to handle those feelings, they are new to me, I don’t understand what this is”
For a moment, silence hung in the air, thick with tension. Yeonjun’s eyes softened slightly, but he remained guarded. “Beomgyu… don’t play with my feelings.”
“I am not” Beomgyu said, stepping closer. “I want you in my life, Yeonjun. I want to be friends, or whatever this is. Just please don’t shut me out. Give me a chance” Yeonjun looked at him, uncertainty flickering in his eyes. “It’s not that simple, Beomgyu. But okay.” “I know” Beomgyu whispered, his heart beating fast. “But I promise I’ll do better. I’ll prove to you that I care.”
Yeonjun sighed, the weight of their past hanging heavily between them. “I need time. It’s not easy for me.”
“I understand” Beomgyu replied, his voice steady. “I’ll do my best. I just hope you’ll let me.” Yeonjun nodded “okay”
As Beomgyu turned to leave, he felt a glimmer of hope. Perhaps this was the first step toward healing, a chance to rebuild what had been broken. He would do whatever it took to show Yeonjun that he was more than just a rival; he could be a friend, and maybe even something more.
As Beomgyu was walking out of the practice room, he unexpectedly spotted Taehyun standing in the hallway, arms crossed, and an intense look of anger etched across his face. “We need to talk, now” Taehyun said firmly, turning on his heel and striding outside. Beomgyu felt a knot tighten in his stomach as he followed him, sensing the gravity of the situation. They made their way to the back of the building, where the noise of the practice room faded into the background.
“What do you want to talk about, Taehyun?” Beomgyu asked, trying to keep his tone calm despite the tension in the air. Before he could even process Taehyun’s response, a sharp pain erupted on the side of his face as Taehyun punched him with a force that sent him sprawling to the ground. “What the hell?” Beomgyu yelled, momentarily stunned and clutching his face.
“That’s for hitting Yeonjun the other day and for breaking his heart” Taehyun snapped, his voice filled with fury. “I heard what you told him just now, and you better be honest about what you said, or I will beat you up again. Do you understand?”
Beomgyu struggled to regain his composure as he pushed himself off the ground, his heart racing. Taehyun's anger was palpable, and it struck a chord deep within him. Just as Taehyun was about to storm off, Beomgyu called out, “I am honest, and I am sorry!”
Taehyun turned back, his eyes blazing. “You’re sorry means nothing to me! I won’t forgive you for hitting him or for all the times he cried because of you. If you hurt him again, you won’t be able to talk to him, or to anyone, ever again.” The intensity of Taehyun’s words made Beomgyu realize just how much pain he had caused Yeonjun.
“I didn’t mean it…” Beomgyu started, but Taehyun cut him off, his voice sharp and unyielding. “I don’t care, Beomgyu. I’ve known for years that Yeonjun had feelings for you. He admired you while you only showed him hate. He’s going through a lot in his life, and you came along and added to his suffering.”
Beomgyu felt a wave of confusion wash over him. He didn’t fully understand what Taehyun was talking about, but the weight of his words pressed heavily on his conscience. He wanted to ask more, to understand the depth of Yeonjun's feelings and the impact of his actions, but Taehyun shot him an angry glare that silenced him. With that, Taehyun turned and stormed away, leaving Beomgyu standing in the alley, grappling with a whirlwind of emotions.
As he processed the confrontation, Beomgyu felt a mix of regret and frustration. He had never intended to hurt Yeonjun, yet here he was, faced with the consequences of his actions. The realization that his behavior had deeply affected someone he cared about ignited a sense of urgency within him. He needed to make things right, but how could he do that when he was still trying to understand his own feelings?
Beomgyu leaned against the wall, taking a deep breath to steady himself. The anger from Taehyun’s punch faded into a dull ache, overshadowed by the guilt that now consumed him. He couldn’t shake the feeling that he had a responsibility to confront his own emotions and to seek forgiveness from Yeonjun. With newfound determination, he decided that he would find a way to make amends, no matter how difficult it might be.
The next day, Beomgyu was walking through the campus, lost in his thoughts as he navigated the familiar pathways. The sun shone brightly, casting dappled shadows on the ground. As he rounded a corner, he spotted Yeonjun sitting alone under a large tree, completely engrossed in his phone. Beomgyu couldn’t help but smile at the sight, but before he could call out, he accidentally stepped on a twig, causing a loud crack that startled Yeonjun.
“What are you reading?” Beomgyu asked, trying to sound casual as he approached.
Yeonjun jumped, nearly dropping his phone in the process. His eyes widened as he looked up to find Beomgyu standing over him, a playful grin on his face. The sudden appearance made Yeonjun blush, a faint pink creeping across his cheeks. “R-reading a report…” he stammered, but his voice trailed off when he noticed the bruises on Beomgyu’s face. Concern washed over him as he quickly stood up and touched Beomgyu’s cheek gently. “What happened?”
Beomgyu tried to brush it off with a light-hearted chuckle. “Oh, hehe, it’s nothing. I deserved it” he said, attempting to downplay the situation. But when he saw the worry etched in Yeonjun’s eyes, he felt a pang of guilt. *Oh shit… can he not be so cute? * he thought, feeling his heart flutter. “I’m really fine” he insisted, forcing a smile.
“Who did it?” Yeonjun pressed, his voice laced with genuine concern.
“It doesn’t matter, Yeonjun. It doesn’t even hurt” Beomgyu replied, hoping to ease his friend’s worry. He could see that Yeonjun wasn’t convinced, but thankfully, he didn’t push the matter further. Instead, Yeonjun let out a sigh, his shoulders relaxing slightly as he gathered his belongings from the ground.
“Where are you going?” Beomgyu inquired, curiosity piqued.
“To the practice room” Yeonjun answered, glancing at Beomgyu with a hint of determination in his eyes.
Beomgyu was momentarily confused. “But we don’t have anything scheduled today. What are you practicing for?”
Yeonjun laughed lightly, the sound brightening the atmosphere. “I always practice. I rarely go out to play” he explained, starting to walk away.
Beomgyu watched him for a moment, his heart sinking at the thought of Yeonjun isolating himself with his studies and practice, this is why he always acing everything he do. Without thinking, he called out, “Then skip today’s practice and let’s go have fun together!” He reached out, gently pulling on Yeonjun’s arm to stop him.
Yeonjun turned back, surprise flickering across his face. “Fun? What do you have in mind?”
“Let’s go to the arcade!” Beomgyu suggested, his eyes sparkling with excitement. “We can play games, eat some snacks, and just relax for a bit. You deserve a break.”
Yeonjun hesitated for a moment, glancing back at the practice room as if torn between his responsibilities and the allure of a carefree day. Beomgyu could see the internal struggle in his eyes, and he felt a surge of determination to convince him.
“Come on, Yeonjun” Beomgyu urged, his voice softening. “You work so hard all the time. Just one day won’t hurt. Let’s make some fun memories instead of being cooped up inside.”
After a few moments of contemplation, Yeonjun’s expression shifted, a small smile breaking through. “Alright, you win. Let’s go to the arcade” he said, his voice lightening with enthusiasm.
Beomgyu’s heart soared at Yeonjun’s agreement. “Yes! You won’t regret it!” he exclaimed, leading the way as they walked side by side. The sun beamed down on them, and for the first time in days, Beomgyu felt a sense of hope and joy bubbling within him.
As they made their way to the arcade, they chatted and laughed, the earlier tension dissipating with each step. Beomgyu felt lighter, grateful for this chance to spend time with Yeonjun, to reconnect and create new memories. He knew they still had a long way to go in mending their friendship, but today was a step in the right direction.
Upon arriving at the arcade, the vibrant lights and cheerful sounds enveloped them, igniting a sense of excitement. The air was thick with the smell of popcorn and cotton candy, mingling with the sounds of laughter and the beeping of machines. Beomgyu turned to Yeonjun, his eyes gleaming. “Let’s start with the racing game! I bet I can beat you!”
Yeonjun raised an eyebrow, a playful smirk forming on his lips. “Oh, is that a challenge? You’re on!”
They made their way to the racing game, the neon lights flashing above them. Beomgyu slid into the driver’s seat, adjusting the steering wheel as he grinned at Yeonjun, who settled into the seat beside him. The game started, and they both leaned forward, fully immersed in the virtual world.
“Ready, set, go!” Beomgyu shouted, gripping the wheel tightly as they sped off. The thrill of competition ignited their spirits, and they shouted encouragements and playful taunts at each other as they raced through the digital landscape. Beomgyu could feel his heart racing, not just from the game but from the sheer joy of being beside Yeonjun.
As they played, Beomgyu couldn’t help but steal glances at Yeonjun, who was completely focused, his brows furrowed in concentration. The way his lips curled into a smile every time he made a sharp turn made Beomgyu’s heart flutter. In that moment, everything else faded away—the bruises, the worries, the past. It was just them, having fun and enjoying each other’s company.
After a few intense rounds, Beomgyu finally managed to pull ahead, crossing the finish line first. “Ha! I told you I could beat you!” he exclaimed, throwing his hands up in victory.
Yeonjun laughed, shaking his head in mock defeat. “Okay, okay, you win this time! But next round, I’m definitely taking you down.”
They moved on to other games, trying their hands at shooting games, claw machines, and even a dance-off. Beomgyu found himself laughing uncontrollably as Yeonjun attempted to show off his dance moves, only to trip over his own feet. “You’re terrible!” Beomgyu teased, wiping tears of laughter from his eyes.
“Hey! I’m just warming up!” Yeonjun retorted, a grin spreading across his face. The playful banter continued, each moment deepening their bond and easing the weight of their earlier troubles.
After a while, they decided to take a break and grabbed some snacks. As they munched on popcorn and cotton candy, Beomgyu looked at Yeonjun, his heart full. “I’m really glad we did this.”
Yeonjun nodded, his expression softening. “Me too. I didn’t realize how much I needed a break until now. Thanks for dragging me out.”
“Anytime” Beomgyu replied, feeling warmth spread in his chest. “Let’s make this a regular thing. We can balance practice with fun.”
“Deal” Yeonjun said, a genuine smile lighting up his face.
As they continued to enjoy their time at the arcade, Beomgyu felt a renewed sense of connection with Yeonjun. Each laugh, each playful jab brought them closer together. He knew that while the road to healing might be long, moments like these were what truly mattered. They were building a foundation that could withstand the storms of the past, and for the first time in a while, Beomgyu felt hopeful about their future.
Days went by, and Beomgyu found himself following Yeonjun everywhere. It had become a routine—an unspoken agreement between them. Beomgyu didn’t care what others thought; their whispers and glances didn’t bother him. All that mattered was being close to Yeonjun, making up for lost time, and rebuilding their friendship. Even Soobin and Kai were confused of the sudden change, Taehyun kept eying them from far.
One sunny afternoon, as they strolled through the bustling school courtyard, filled with the sounds of laughter and chatter, Beomgyu’s eyes sparkled with excitement. The sun cast a warm glow, and the vibrant colors of blooming flowers surrounded them. “Yeonjun, let’s eat together today! My treat!” he exclaimed, his voice bubbling with enthusiasm. Beomgyu’s heart raced at the thought of spending time with Yeonjun, imagining the fun they could have.
Yeonjun smiled warmly but replied, “I would love to, Gyu, but I have somewhere to go. Let’s plan for next time.” His tone was gentle, but there was an underlying tension that Beomgyu couldn’t quite understand. Beomgyu nodded in understanding, but confusion clouded his thoughts. Although Yeonjun smiled, there was a hint of sadness in his eyes, and he seemed lost in thought throughout the day, glancing at his phone more than usual, as if waiting for something or someone.
After they went their separate ways, Beomgyu watched Yeonjun dash off, his backpack bouncing against his back. He noticed Yeonjun being stopped by Taehyun, who leaned in to speak to him. They exchanged a few words, and Beomgyu noticed Taehyun’s face shift to one of shock before he nodded and left with Yeonjun. Puzzled, Beomgyu thought to himself, *What’s going on? *
“Wow, now you have a new friend and you’ve forgotten about us?” Soobin teased from behind, still watching Yeonjun with a smirk. Beomgyu chuckled, trying to mask his concern with humor. “He’s more fun than you” he joked, nudging Soobin playfully. “Ouch!” Soobin pretended to be hurt, clutching his chest dramatically while laughing. “Come on, let’s go!”
This pattern continued for days. Every time Beomgyu asked Yeonjun to hang out after classes, he would refuse, claiming he had to go somewhere else. Yeonjun appeared increasingly tired, with dark circles forming under his eyes, and he forced a smile that didn’t quite reach his lips. Beomgyu couldn’t shake the feeling of worry that settled in his chest, like a heavy weight he couldn’t lift.
“What’s wrong?” Soobin asked one day as they walked together, the school hallways bustling with students. “It’s Yeonjun. He’s been acting strangely. We promised to hang out, but he always says he needs to go somewhere else. When we are together, he’s either checking his phone or spacing out” Beomgyu replied with a heavy sigh, running a hand through his hair in frustration.
“who are you? A month ago, you wanted to destroy him, and now you’re worrying about him?” Soobin remarked, surprised by Beomgyu’s sudden change of heart.
“Well…” Beomgyu looked away, feeling the weight of his unspoken feelings. He hadn’t shared the secret of their kiss or his growing affection for Yeonjun, which explained the confusion on Soobin’s face. “He’s turned out to be a nice and hardworking person, and I misunderstood him. But that’s not the issue now” he said, annoyance creeping into his tone.
“Why don’t you just ask him directly?” Soobin suggested, raising an eyebrow. “I’m scared. What if he thinks I’m annoying and is avoiding me?” Beomgyu sighed, feeling trapped in his worries, his heart racing the thought of confronting Yeonjun.
“You won’t know unless you ask” Soobin replied before glancing at their classmates, who were busy chatting and laughing. “I must go now. See you later” he said, leaving Beomgyu standing alone. Beomgyu waved goodbye and continued walking until he spotted Taehyun near the lockers, leaning casually against the wall. *Maybe he knows something* he thought as he approached him.
“Hi” Beomgyu called out, and Taehyun looked at him with a calm demeanor, unlike their previous encounter. “Oh, hi” Taehyun replied, his voice steady.
“Can I ask you something?” Beomgyu ventured, nervous that Taehyun might react negatively, fearing he might overstep boundaries. “Is it about Yeonjun?” Taehyun asked, sensing the concern in Beomgyu’s voice. Beomgyu nodded, his heart racing as he prepared to voice his worries. “I’m just worried about him. He looks tired and lost. Is everything okay?”
Taehyun let out a deep sigh, the weight of the situation evident in his expression. “Yes and no, but don’t worry; it’s not about you. He feels bad about not being able to spend time with you but there is something else going on in his life” he explained, noticing the worry etched on Beomgyu’s face.
“I don’t have the right to tell you if Yeonjun didn’t share himself, but I feel like I have no choice. I know it will hurt him if you keep thinking badly of him. Listen carefully, Yeonjun had a cousin who was like a little brother to him. Unfortunately, he got sick. The reason Yeonjun works so hard to be the best is that he made a promise to him. Two years ago, his cousin fell into a coma and he is getting worse now, and it has been incredibly difficult for Yeonjun. That’s why he goes to the hospital every day to see him” Taehyun explained, his expression serious and compassionate.
Beomgyu felt tears welling up in his eyes, his heart aching for Yeonjun and what he used to feel not knowing how hard it was for him. “Don’t blame yourself, Beomgyu. I know what you’re thinking right now, feeling like you used to be harsh on him when he’s struggling, right?”
Beomgyu bit his lower lip, overwhelmed with emotion. “I used to blame you too, but for Yeonjun, it was different. He took it as motivation to do his best. Competing with you was fun for him. When he first told me he fell for you, I thought I was going crazy. I’m really glad you’ve started to see him for who he truly is” Taehyun said with a supportive smile.Wiping his tears, Beomgyu asked, “Can you tell me which hospital he’s in?” His voice trembled with urgency, a desperate need to be by Yeonjun’s side during this difficult time.
Taehyun looked surprised but then smiled again, knowing that Beomgyu wanted to support Yeonjun. “Sure” he replied, offering Beomgyu a reassuring nod. “I’ll give you the details. Just remember, he needs your understanding right now.” As Beomgyu walked away, determination filled his heart. He knew he had to be there for Yeonjun, no matter what.
When Beomgyu arrived at the hospital, the atmosphere felt heavy with sorrow. The sterile white walls seemed to amplify the muffled cries and whispers of grief that echoed through the corridors. Fluorescent lights flickered overhead, casting a harsh glow on the faces of the families huddled together, their expressions streaked with tears. A sense of despair hung in the air like a thick fog, wrapping around Beomgyu and making his heart race with anxiety.
As he walked through the waiting area, he could hear the distant beeping of machines and the hushed conversations of nurses. Each step felt like a weight pressing down on him. Then, through the crowd, he spotted Yeonjun standing among a group of people, his expression a mix of shock and pain. Beomgyu’s breath caught in his throat as he approached, feeling a sense of urgency wash over him.
“Yeonjun” Beomgyu called, his voice trembling slightly as he looked at Yeonjun with a sad expression. Yeonjun’s eyes widened in surprise, and for a moment, he simply stared at Beomgyu, realization dawning on him. He knew that Beomgyu must have heard something.
“It’s okay. I knew this would happen one day” Yeonjun replied, forcing a smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes. The pain behind his words was palpable, and Beomgyu’s heart sank further, feeling a knot tighten in his chest.
Without thinking, Beomgyu opened his arms wide, desperation driving him to reach out. Yeonjun looked confused for a moment, uncertainty flickering in his eyes, but before he could respond, Beomgyu pulled him into a tight embrace.
In that instant, Beomgyu felt Yeonjun’s body tense, and then he heard it—the soft, heart-wrenching sobs escaping from Yeonjun’s lips. Tears streamed down Yeonjun’s face, soaking into Beomgyu’s shirt as he clung tightly to him. The warmth of Yeonjun’s body contrasted sharply with the coldness of the hospital environment, and Beomgyu’s heart ached at the sight of the person he loves in such distress. He could feel his own tears threatening to spill over as he held Yeonjun close.
“It’s okay, I’m here” Beomgyu whispered softly, patting Yeonjun’s back in a comforting rhythm, trying to soothe him. He felt the warmth of Yeonjun’s tears against his skin, each drop a testament to the pain that had been bottled up inside him for so long. The sound of Yeonjun’s cries echoed in Beomgyu’s ears, each one a reminder of the weight of grief Yeonjun carried all these years.
Beomgyu stayed there, wrapped around Yeonjun, offering silent support as the world around them faded away. The bustling hospital, with its hurried doctors and anxious families, became a distant memory. In this moment, it was just the two of them, lost in their own shared sorrow. He held Yeonjun tighter, wishing he could take away all the hurt, all the fears that had been haunting him.
Slowly, as time passed, Yeonjun’s sobs began to quiet, and his breathing steadied. Beomgyu remained patient, letting him release the pent-up emotions until he felt Yeonjun relax slightly in his embrace. They stood there for what felt like an eternity, two souls intertwined in a moment of shared grief and understanding. The sound of Yeonjun’s heartbeat began to sync with Beomgyu’s own, creating a rhythm of comfort amidst the chaos.
Finally, Yeonjun pulled back slightly, wiping his tear-streaked face with the back of his hand, embarrassment creeping into his expression. “I’m sorry” he murmured, his voice still shaky, vulnerability etched across his features.
“Don’t be” Beomgyu replied gently, a small smile breaking through his own sadness. “You don’t have to apologize. I’m here for you, no matter what.” He reached up to gently cup Yeonjun’s cheek, his thumb brushing away a stray tear.
Yeonjun nodded, the weight of his pain still evident in his eyes, but there was a flicker of gratitude there too. “I didn’t want you to see me like this” he admitted, his voice barely above a whisper, a hint of shame coloring his words.
“Seeing you like this makes me want to be here for you even more” Beomgyu replied earnestly, his heart swelling with determination. “You don’t have to go through this alone.”
As they stood together in that hospital corridor, surrounded by the echoes of sorrow and flickers of hope, Beomgyu felt a renewed sense of purpose wash over him. The sterile environment, filled with the sounds of distant beeping machines and hushed conversations, seemed to fade away as he focused entirely on Yeonjun. He knew, without a doubt, that he would stand by Yeonjun through whatever came next, ready to face the challenges ahead together.
As Yeonjun approached his family members, their faces etched with grief, Beomgyu remained close by, holding Yeonjun’s hand tightly. He could feel the tension in Yeonjun’s grip, a mixture of fear and vulnerability, and he made it his mission to provide unwavering support. They talked quietly about the funeral arrangements, the somber reality settling heavily in the air. Beomgyu listened attentively, nodding when necessary, offering words of comfort when he could. He didn’t let go of Yeonjun’s hand, not once, until it was finally time for them to leave.
The conversations around him blurred into a soft murmur, but Beomgyu remained focused on Yeonjun. He could see the way his shoulders slumped under the weight of grief, and he wished he could lift that burden, even if just a little. The sight of Yeonjun’s family, their eyes red and puffy from crying, only deepened Beomgyu’s resolve to be there for him.
With a deep breath, Yeonjun turned to Beomgyu, his gaze searching for reassurance amidst the chaos. “Thank you for coming” he said, his voice steadier now, though the pain lingered just beneath the surface. Beomgyu could see the flicker of vulnerability in Yeonjun’s eyes, a silent plea for understanding.
“Always” Beomgyu replied, squeezing Yeonjun’s hand gently, his heart swelling with affection and determination. “Next time, just tell me. I will be here for you, no matter what.”
Yeonjun nodded, a small, grateful smile breaking through the sadness. It was a fragile smile, but it was there—a sign that perhaps, amidst the overwhelming grief, there was still room for connection and support. Beomgyu felt a sense of warmth spread through him at that moment, knowing that their bond was stronger than the pain they faced.
As they stepped outside, the cool air hit them like a gentle wave—refreshing yet stark against the backdrop of the emotional turmoil they had just faced. The sky was a muted gray, clouds hanging low as if mirroring the heaviness in their hearts. Beomgyu glanced at Yeonjun, who seemed lost in thought, his gaze fixed on the ground.
“Do you want to talk about it?” Beomgyu asked cautiously, hoping to break the silence that hung between them. He understood that sometimes, sharing the burden could lighten the load, but he also sensed that Yeonjun might not be ready to open up just yet.
Yeonjun took a deep breath, his shoulders rising and falling as he considered the question. “I don’t know” he replied, his voice barely above a whisper. “It feels so overwhelming. I’m just… trying to process everything.”
Beomgyu nodded, empathizing with Yeonjun’s struggle. “That’s completely okay. We can take our time. I’m here for whatever you need—whether it’s talking, sitting in silence, or just going for a walk.” He gently squeezed Yeonjun’s hand again, a silent promise of support, feeling the warmth of their connection radiate through him.
As they began to walk down the street, the sounds of the city enveloped them—the distant honking of cars, the chatter of passersby, and the rustling of leaves in the breeze. Beomgyu led Yeonjun to a nearby park, a place he knew often provided solace amidst chaos. The vibrant colors of the trees and the soft chirping of birds offered a stark contrast to the somber mood they had just left behind.
Finding a quiet bench, they sat down, the weight of the world still heavy on Yeonjun’s shoulders. Beomgyu turned to him, his expression earnest. “You know, it’s okay to feel sad. It’s okay to grieve. You don’t have to put on a brave face all the time.”
Yeonjun looked at Beomgyu, his eyes shimmering with unshed tears. “I just keep thinking about all the things I wish I had said, all the moments I took for granted. It hurts so much. I did everything I could to make him proud of me, to see him smile.” His voice cracked, and Beomgyu felt his heart ache for him, a deep, profound love swelling within.
“I understand” Beomgyu replied softly, his heart aching in empathy. “Regret can be one of the hardest things to deal with. But remember, it’s not about what you didn’t say or do. It’s about the love that you shared. That will always be a part of you. I’m sure he is so proud of you, Yeonjun. You did what no one else could—you fulfilled your promise to him.”
Yeonjun nodded slowly, absorbing Beomgyu’s words. “I just wish I could go back and change things” he admitted, his voice heavy with longing. “But I know that’s not possible.”
“You don’t have to” Beomgyu said gently, his voice a soothing balm. “But what you can do is keep the memories alive, celebrate the good times, and allow yourself to feel the pain. It’s all part of healing. You went above and beyond for him.”
They sat in silence for a moment, the weight of their conversation settling around them. Beomgyu watched as Yeonjun gazed out at the park, his expression softening as he took in the beauty surrounding them. The gentle sway of the trees and the laughter of children playing nearby seemed to bring a flicker of peace to his troubled mind.
“Thank you for being here” Yeonjun finally said, breaking the silence. “I don’t know what I would do without you right now.”
“You’ll never have to find out” Beomgyu replied, a warm smile spreading across his face. He brushed a stray lock of hair from Yeonjun’s forehead, his touch lingering longer than necessary. “We’re in this together, remember? I will always be by your side.”
As the afternoon sun began to peek through the clouds, casting a warm glow over the park, Beomgyu felt a sense of hope beginning to blossom within him. They had a long journey ahead, but with each moment they shared, he believed they would find strength in their bond—one that was deepening with every passing second.
“Let’s make a pact” Beomgyu said suddenly, his eyes sparkling with determination. “Whenever you’re feeling lost or overwhelmed, promise me you’ll reach out. No matter the time or place. I want to be your anchor.”
Yeonjun looked at him, a small smile breaking through the clouds of sadness. “I promise” he said, his voice steadier now. “And I’ll do the same for you.”
With that, they sealed their promise with a firm handshake, a symbol of their unwavering support for one another. As they sat together, the world around them faded into a blur, leaving only the two of them, intertwined in a moment that felt timeless.
In that quiet park, surrounded by the beauty of nature, Beomgyu felt an overwhelming sense of love for Yeonjun. It was a love that transcended friendship, a deep connection forged through shared pain and understanding. He knew that no matter what lay ahead, he would fight to protect that bond, cherishing every moment they had together.
As the sun dipped lower in the sky, casting golden rays across the park, Beomgyu leaned slightly closer to Yeonjun, feeling the warmth radiate between them. “No matter what happens, I’ll always be here for you” he whispered, his heart full of unspoken feelings he hoped Yeonjun could sense.
And as Yeonjun turned to him, their eyes locking in a moment of unbreakable connection, Beomgyu knew that they were not just facing the storm together; they were also building something beautiful amidst the chaos—a love that would guide them through even the darkest of times.
Days went by, and Beomgyu finally admitted to himself the truth he had been trying to ignore, he loved Yeonjun. Since the moment he got to know him, he couldn’t help but fall deeper into this feeling. They had grown inseparable, spending every moment together, and with each passing day, Beomgyu could see the happiness blooming in Yeonjun’s eyes. Their bond had not only strengthened between the two of them but had also brought their friends closer. Now, all five of them would hang out together, creating memories that felt like threads weaving a beautiful tapestry of friendship.
As Christmas approached, Beomgyu found himself caught in a whirlwind of emotions. His family was busy with work, leaving him with the unsettling thought that he might have to spend Christmas alone. The idea felt heavy in his chest, as he longed for connection, warmth, and the joy that the season was supposed to bring.
However, Yeonjun had other plans. Sensing Beomgyu’s melancholy, he reached out, inviting him to join his family for the holiday. Yeonjun knew how much Beomgyu had been through, especially after the funeral, and he remembered how close his family become closer to him during that difficult time. Yeonjun’s mom had taken a special liking to Beomgyu, often praising him for his kindness and the way he supported her son.
On Christmas night, as Beomgyu arrived at Yeonjun’s home, he was greeted with the warm glow of lights and the delicious aroma of holiday treats wafting through the air. The atmosphere was filled with laughter and love, and Beomgyu felt a wave of gratitude wash over him. He realized how lucky he was not just to be welcomed into Yeonjun’s family but also to have Yeonjun by his side.
As the evening unfolded, they shared stories, exchanged gifts, and indulged in festive food. Beomgyu couldn’t help but steal glances at Yeonjun, who was animatedly chatting with his family. The way Yeonjun laughed, his eyes sparkling with joy, made Beomgyu’s heart swell. It was a moment of pure bliss; a memory he knew he would cherish forever.
Later in the evening, as the snow began to fall softly outside, Beomgyu found himself alone with Yeonjun on the porch. The world around them was silent, blanketed in white, and the stars twinkled like diamonds in the night sky. Beomgyu took a deep breath, feeling the crisp air fill his lungs, and turned to Yeonjun.
“Thank you for inviting me tonight” Beomgyu said, his voice barely above a whisper. “I didn’t want to spend Christmas alone, and this means so much to me.” Yeonjun smiled, his expression softening. “You’re part of this family, Beomgyu. You’re always welcome here. I want you to be a part of my life, especially during moments like this.”
In that instant, Beomgyu felt a surge of emotions—happiness, relief, and an overwhelming sense of belonging. He realized that this Christmas was not just about festivities; it was about love, connection, and the courage to embrace his feelings.
As the night wore on, they exchanged heartfelt conversations, and Beomgyu knew that this was just the beginning of something beautiful. With Yeonjun by his side, he felt ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead, knowing that their bond would only grow stronger.
As the laughter and warmth of Yeonjun’s family filled the house, Beomgyu felt a growing urge to have a moment alone with him. He needed to express the feelings that had been building inside him, and the magic of Christmas night felt like the perfect backdrop for such a confession.
“Hey, Yeonjun” Beomgyu said, glancing toward the door. “Do you want to step outside for a bit? I could use some fresh air.” Yeonjun raised an eyebrow, intrigued but willing. “Sure, let’s go.”
They stepped out onto the porch, the cool air wrapping around them like a comforting blanket. The snow continued to fall gently, creating a serene atmosphere. The world seemed to fade away, leaving just the two of them under the starlit sky.
As they stood side by side, Beomgyu took a deep breath, feeling his heart race. He turned to Yeonjun, who was gazing up at the stars, a soft smile on his face. “You know” Beomgyu started, his voice trembling slightly, “I’ve been thinking a lot about us lately.”
Yeonjun turned to look at him, curiosity shining in his eyes. “Yeah? What about us?”
Beomgyu swallowed hard, gathering his courage. “I… I really care about you, Yeonjun. More than I ever thought I could. Being with you makes me happier than anything else…. I love you Yeonjun.”
For a moment, the world stood still. Yeonjun’s eyes widened in surprise, disbelief flickering across his face. “You… love me?” he echoed, as if trying to grasp the weight of Beomgyu's confession.
“Yes” Beomgyu replied, his heart pounding. “I didn’t want to hide it anymore. You mean so much to me, and I can’t imagine my life without you…. I just had to tell you .”
Yeonjun blinked, his expression shifting from surprise to a soft, radiant smile. “I… I didn’t know you felt that way. I’ve been in love with you for so long, this doesn’t feel real.”
In that moment, all the fears and doubts melted away, replaced by a rush of warmth and excitement. Beomgyu took a small step closer, feeling the magnetic pull between them. “So, what now?” he asked, his voice barely above a whisper. Yeonjun looked at him, his eyes sparkling with emotion. “I think we should see where this takes us.”
With their hearts racing, Beomgyu leaned in, closing the gap between them. He felt a surge of adrenaline as he pressed his lips to Yeonjun’s, tentative at first. To his surprise, Yeonjun responded almost immediately, deepening the kiss. It was soft and sweet, filled with the promise of new beginnings.
As they pulled away, Beomgyu searched Yeonjun’s eyes, looking for a reaction. Yeonjun was momentarily speechless, his cheeks flushed with warmth. “Wow” he finally breathed, a smile breaking across his face. “That was… better than I ever thought it would be.” Beomgyu chuckled, feeling a sense of relief and joy wash over him. “I’m glad you think so.”
They stood there, wrapped in each other’s presence, the world around them fading into the background. The stars twinkled above, and for the first time, Beomgyu felt truly at peace, knowing that he and Yeonjun were on the brink of something beautiful together.
As the warmth of their kiss lingered in the cool night air, Beomgyu felt a surge of hope and excitement. He took a step back, looking into Yeonjun’s eyes, which sparkled with a mix of surprise and happiness.
“Yeonjun” Beomgyu began, his heart racing again. “I know we just confessed our feelings, but I want to take this a step further. I want you to be my boyfriend.”
Yeonjun’s expression shifted to one of delight, his eyes widening in surprise once more. “You really mean that?” he asked, a smile breaking across his face. “You want to be my boyfriend?”
“Yes, I do” Beomgyu replied, feeling a rush of confidence. “I’ve never felt this way about anyone before, and I want to explore this together. I want to be there for you, just like you’ve for me.”
Yeonjun’s smile grew wider, and he took a step closer, closing the distance between them again. “I want that too, Beomgyu. I’ve been hoping you’d ask me.” Beomgyu felt a wave of relief wash over him. “So, will you be my boyfriend?”
“Yes! Of course, I will!” Yeonjun exclaimed, his voice filled with joy. “I can’t believe this is really happening.”
With a laugh, Beomgyu reached out, gently taking Yeonjun’s hands in his. “I’m so glad to hear that. I promise to make this special for both of us.”
They stood there for a moment, hands intertwined, both feeling the weight of their new relationship settle comfortably between them. The world around them faded into a blur as they shared a blissful silence, soaking in the reality of their newfound connection.
“Let’s make this Christmas the start of something amazing” Yeonjun suggested, his eyes sparkling with excitement. “I couldn’t agree more” Beomgyu replied, grinning from ear to ear. “Here’s to us, to new beginnings, and to all the adventures ahead.”
With that, they leaned in once more, sharing another sweet kiss under the starlit sky, sealing their promise to each other. Beomgyu felt an overwhelming sense of happiness, knowing that this was just the beginning of their journey together as boyfriends.
Just as Beomgyu and Yeonjun pulled away from their kiss, the soft sound of laughter broke the tranquility of the night. They turned to see one of Yeonjun’s younger cousins, a mischievous little boy named Jihoon, peeking out from behind the porch door. His eyes were wide with surprise, and a cheeky grin spread across his face.
“Wow! You guys were kissing!” Jihoon exclaimed, unable to contain his excitement. “I’m telling everyone!”
“Wait, Jihoon!” Yeonjun called out, his face turning beet red as he instinctively stepped back, trying to hide his embarrassment. “You can’t just—” But it was too late. Jihoon darted back inside, his little feet pattering against the hardwood floor as he shouted, “Everyone! Yeonjun and Beomgyu are boyfriends! They were kissing!”
Beomgyu burst into laughter, unable to help himself at the sheer absurdity of the situation. “I can’t believe this is happening right now!” he chuckled, shaking his head. “Talk about an unexpected announcement!”
Yeonjun, on the other hand, was a picture of shyness. His cheeks were flushed a deep crimson, and he buried his face in his hands, half-laughing, half-mortified. “Oh no, I can’t believe he saw that! My family is going to tease me forever!”
As the laughter from inside the house grew louder, Beomgyu reached out and gently squeezed Yeonjun’s hand. “Hey, it’s okay! This just means we’re officially out there now. Besides, it’s kind of cute.” Yeonjun peeked through his fingers, a small smile forming despite his embarrassment. “Cute? More like mortifying!”
Just then, Yeonjun’s mom stepped out onto the porch, a knowing smile on her face. “I heard the news, boys! Congratulations!” she said, her eyes sparkling with delight. “You two make such a lovely couple!”
Yeonjun groaned, his face still hidden in his hands. “Mom, please!” he whined, but there was a hint of a smile in his voice. Beomgyu couldn’t help but laugh even harder at the scene unfolding before him. “This is the best Christmas ever!” he declared, feeling a warmth spread through him. “I wouldn’t trade this for anything.”
Yeonjun finally dropped his hands and looked at Beomgyu, a mixture of embarrassment and happiness in his eyes. “Okay, maybe it’s not so bad after all” he admitted, a shy smile creeping onto his face.
As they stood there, surrounded by the laughter of family and the warmth of their new relationship, Beomgyu realized that this moment, however unexpected, was just the beginning of many more joyful memories to come.
Before they could fully process the moment, Yeonjun’s family began spilling out onto the porch, drawn by Jihoon’s excited announcement. His cousin, Soojin, was the first to arrive, her eyes lighting up with mischief.
“Did I hear correctly? Our sweet Yeonjun has a boyfriend?” she teased, crossing her arms and raising an eyebrow. “This is too good to be true!”
“Stop it, Soojin!” Yeonjun protested, his face still flushed. “It’s not a big deal!”
“Not a big deal?” she laughed, nudging him playfully. “This is huge! After years of not dating anyone and having this big crush on your childhood classmate, you’ve got to tell us everything!”
Beomgyu was surprised to hear her words and turned to see Yeonjun’s face, which had turned so red with shock that he was speechless. “Wait… is Beomgyu your childhood crush? Oh my god!” she began to scream, her excitement palpable.
Beomgyu chuckled, stepping forward, still amazed by the turn of events. “Well, I didn’t know little Yeonjun had a crush on me” he said with a wink at Yeonjun, who groaned again, blushing furiously.
Just then, their parents joined them, and the atmosphere shifted from playful teasing to warm acceptance. Yeonjun’s dad, a gentle man with a reassuring presence, clapped a hand on Beomgyu’s shoulder. “I’m glad to see you both happy. Love is a wonderful thing, especially during the holidays.”
Yeonjun’s mom chimed in, her voice filled with warmth. “You two are adorable together. I always thought you had a special connection. Just look at how happy you make each other!”
Beomgyu felt a swell of gratitude toward Yeonjun’s family. Their acceptance made the moment feel even more special. “Thank you for being so welcoming,” he said, glancing at Yeonjun. “I really care about your son.” Yeonjun smiled shyly in response. “I’m really lucky.”
As the night continued, the family gathered around to celebrate the unexpected news. They brought out hot cocoa and holiday treats, creating a cozy atmosphere filled with laughter and joy. Jihoon, still buzzing with excitement, couldn’t stop sharing the story of how he caught Yeonjun and Beomgyu in their moment.
“Did you see their faces? They looked like deer caught in headlights!” Jihoon exclaimed, making everyone laugh again. Beomgyu leaned closer to Yeonjun, whispering, “I think we have a little spy in the family.” Yeonjun chuckled, shaking his head. “Yeah, I’ll have to keep an eye on him. He’s going to be a handful.”
As the evening wore on, Yeonjun’s mom raised her glass for a toast. “To new beginnings and love! May this Christmas be filled with joy and laughter for all of us!”
Everyone raised their glasses, echoing her sentiment. Beomgyu felt a rush of happiness as he clinked his glass against Yeonjun’s. “To us!” he said, grinning widely. Yeonjun’s eyes sparkled as he looked back at Beomgyu. “To us,” he repeated softly, his heart full.
As the night continued, stories were shared, and laughter echoed through the house. Beomgyu felt more at home than ever, surrounded by Yeonjun’s family, who welcomed him with open arms. They played games, exchanged stories from their childhoods, and shared their hopes for the future.
At one point, Jihoon pulled Beomgyu aside, his eyes wide with curiosity. “So, do you really love Yeonjun?” he asked earnestly. Beomgyu knelt down to Jihoon’s level, a warm smile on his face. “I really do. He makes me happy, and I want to be there for him.”
Jihoon nodded, satisfied with the answer. “Good! Because he’s my favorite cousin, and I want him to be happy!” Beomgyu chuckled, ruffling Jihoon’s hair. “I promise I’ll take good care of him.”
As the night drew to a close, Beomgyu and Yeonjun found themselves back on the porch, the stars twinkling above them. The warmth of the evening lingered in the air, and they shared a comfortable silence, both reflecting on how much had changed in just a few hours.
“I can’t believe how well that went” Yeonjun said, leaning against the porch railing. “I was so nervous!”
Beomgyu smiled, wrapping an arm around Yeonjun’s waist. “You handled it like a champ. And now we get to enjoy this together.” Yeonjun turned to him, his eyes softening. “Thank you for being so brave tonight. I’m really glad you’re in my life.”
“Me too” Beomgyu replied, pulling Yeonjun closer. “Here’s to many more moments like this.” With that, they shared one last kiss under the stars, sealing the night with the promise of love and adventure ahead.
As dawn broke the next day, the sun cast a golden hue over the house, and the sounds of laughter and chatter filled the air. Yeonjun and Beomgyu awoke to the smell of freshly baked pastries wafting through the kitchen. They exchanged sleepy smiles, the events of the previous night still fresh in their minds.
“Good morning, lovebirds!” Soojin teased as she walked by, carrying a tray of croissants. “Ready for another day of being the center of attention?”
Yeonjun groaned, burying his face in Beomgyu’s shoulder. “Can we just have a quiet breakfast?”
Beomgyu chuckled, brushing a hand through Yeonjun’s hair. “I think we can handle a little attention. It’s all part of the fun!”
As they joined Yeonjun’s family for breakfast, Beomgyu felt an overwhelming sense of belonging that he had never experienced before. The warmth and love radiating from Yeonjun’s family enveloped him like a cozy blanket, making him realize that this was the start of something truly beautiful. The aroma of freshly cooked dishes filled the air, mingling with the laughter and chatter around the table, creating an atmosphere of comfort and joy.
As they settled into their seats, Soojin, Yeonjun’s playful cousin, broke the ice with a teasing smile. “So, yesterday was your first time kissing?” she asked, her eyes sparkling with mischief.
Both Beomgyu and Yeonjun responded simultaneously, but with completely different answers. “No” Beomgyu said confidently, while Yeonjun exclaimed, “Yes!” A moment of silence followed, thick with confusion. Yeonjun turned to Beomgyu, his brow furrowing in disbelief. “What do you mean, ‘no’?” he asked, curiosity etched on his face.
“Well…” Beomgyu blushed, his cheeks turning a soft shade of pink. He looked down shyly, gathering the courage to admit, “I… kissed you before…”
“When?” Yeonjun’s voice was filled with shock, his eyes wide as he processed the surprise revelation.
“Remember when we won that trip together? After we came back to the hotel… you were sleeping, and I kissed you…” Beomgyu felt embarrassed to admit it, but the truth hung in the air between them.
Yeonjun’s cheeks flushed a deep crimson, and he buried his face in his hands. “Oh my god! My first kiss was when I was sleeping?” He was having a moment of realization, his mind racing as he processed the implications of Beomgyu’s words.
Suddenly, he turned to Beomgyu with an incredulous expression, his voice laced with a hint of accusation. “It was before I confessed… then why did you punch me?”
Beomgyu sighed, recalling that fateful moment. “I told you, I panicked! I wasn’t aware of my feelings at the time” he explained, taking Yeonjun’s hand gently in his own. “Sorry for stealing your first kiss like that” he teased, a playful smirk forming on his lips.
Yeonjun playfully hit Beomgyu’s arm, a mix of annoyance and affection on his face. “Admit it, you’re glad it was me, right?” Beomgyu continued to tease, his eyes sparkling with mischief.
“Surely he was” Soojin interjected with a laugh. “You don’t know how long he was waiting for this! He protected that first kiss with his life, wanting to share it with his childhood crush.”
“Stop it, Soojin!” Yeonjun yelled, embarrassment flooding his face. Unable to take any more teasing, he jumped up from the table and ran away, leaving Beomgyu in a fit of laughter.
Beomgyu felt a rush of happiness, realizing just how deep Yeonjun’s feelings for him ran. Soojin leaned in closer, her voice softening as she shared more stories. “he really loved you since day one, Beomgyu. He always talked about this boy in school who was so good at singing and dancing. Competing with him was fun, and I remember one time he came home singing a song I had never heard before. When I asked him what it was, he said that his crush wrote it and sang it that day. The way he was happy about the song—more than about winning—was so cute.”
Beomgyu listened intently, feeling a mix of emotions wash over him. Hearing Soojin share these stories about Yeonjun’s feelings made him realize how foolish he had been, viewing Yeonjun as a rival all this time while unknowingly making Yeonjun fall deeper for him.
As the morning sun streamed through the kitchen window, illuminating the room in a warm glow, Beomgyu felt a sense of clarity. He had been so caught up in his own insecurities that he hadn’t seen the truth right in front of him: Yeonjun had been his biggest supporter and admirer from the beginning. The realization filled him with gratitude and affection, solidifying the bond they shared.
Beomgyu’s heart was now lighter, buoyed by the knowledge of Yeonjun’s unwavering feelings.
On New Year’s Eve, all five of them decided to spend the night together, cherishing their friendship and the excitement of the upcoming year. They planned a cozy barbecue at a secluded spot just outside of town, a hidden gem known for its stunning views of the skyline. The location was perfect for watching the fireworks that would soon illuminate the night sky, creating a magical backdrop for their celebration.
As they set up for the evening, the atmosphere buzzed with laughter and anticipation. Beomgyu took charge of grilling the meat, his culinary skills evident as he expertly flipped the marinated pieces on the grill. The sizzle of the meat and the delicious aroma wafting through the air made everyone’s mouths water in anticipation. The group had brought an assortment of sides—fresh salads, spicy kimchi, and fragrant rice—that complemented the main dish perfectly.
Meanwhile, Yeonjun y kept feeding Beomgyu, smiling at him, “Is it tasty?” Beomgyu asks as his eyes sparkled with mischief as he was offered another bite, clearly enjoying the moment. Yeonjun, with a wide grin on his face, replied, “It is! You are doing a good job grilling the meat” His laughter echoed in the crisp evening air, and he savored both the food and the warmth of Yeonjun's attention. Yeonjun continued to feed him, taking bites himself, creating a playful and intimate atmosphere that made the others smile. Their chemistry was undeniable, and it brought a lighthearted energy to the gathering.
While the rest of the group found nothing unusual in their behavior, Taehyun couldn’t help but smirk at the pair’s antics. He observed them with a knowing look, fully aware of the budding romance between Beomgyu and Yeonjun, yet he chose to act oblivious. His playful demeanor added to the lightheartedness of the evening as he engaged with Kai and Soobin, sharing jokes and reminiscing about past New Year’s celebrations. They reminisced about their favorite memories, recalling the hilarious moments that had defined their friendship over the years.
As darkness fell, the first fireworks began to explode in the sky, painting it with vibrant colors and filling the air with the sound of crackling bursts. The group gathered around, their faces illuminated by the brilliant displays above, reflecting the awe and excitement in their eyes. They cheered and laughed, the sound of their joy mixing with the crackling of the fire. The sky was a canvas of reds, blues, and golds, each explosion more dazzling than the last.
Beomgyu held Yeonjun’s hand tightly as they watched the fireworks explode in the night sky, each burst of color reflecting the joy in their hearts. Feeling a rush of excitement, Beomgyu suddenly pulled Yeonjun away from the other three.
“Where are we going?” Yeonjun asked, a hint of confusion in his voice as he followed Beomgyu, who led him further away from Soobin, Taehyun, and Kai. They found a quiet spot, the sounds of laughter and fireworks fading into the background.
Beomgyu stopped and turned to face Yeonjun, his heart racing. Without a word, he leaned in and pulled Yeonjun into a kiss. It was soft at first, but as Yeonjun kissed him back, it deepened, filled with the promise of new beginnings.
“Happy New Year, my love” Beomgyu said with a bright smile as they pulled apart, his eyes sparkling with affection.
“Happy New Year” Yeonjun replied, his cheeks flushed with happiness. They shared another kiss, lost in their moment, until they were abruptly interrupted by Soobin’s loud exclamation.
“What the fu—” Soobin shouted, his eyes wide in surprise. Both Taehyun and Kai quickly covered his mouth, trying to stifle his shock.
“So… you two are like, together now?” Kai asked, an awkward smile spreading across his face as he tried to process the scene.
Beomgyu nodded, his expression a mix of pride and bashfulness. Yeonjun blushed deeply, glancing at Taehyun with a shy smile. Taehyun returned the look with a knowing grin, silently letting Yeonjun know that he had already figured it out.
Soobin, still recovering from his initial shock, pulled their hands apart and walked over to Beomgyu, a playful glare on his face. “You! All this time I wasted helping you feel better, and now you’re dating him and didn’t tell me? How dare you?” He shook Beomgyu lightly, his tone half-serious, half-joking.
Turning to Yeonjun, Soobin added, “I don’t know if I should be happy for you or feel sad for you that you’ll be stuck with him. wish you best of luck on that” He sighed dramatically, causing everyone to burst into laughter.
“Don’t worry, I can handle him and thank you” Yeonjun replied with a playful wink, his confidence shining through. The group erupted in laughter again, the earlier tension replaced by warmth and camaraderie as they celebrated not just the New Year, but also the blossoming love between Beomgyu and Yeonjun.
As the fireworks continued to light up the sky, the friends gathered together, their hearts full of joy and anticipation for the adventures that awaited them in the year ahead.
As the laughter faded and the last of the fireworks lit up the night sky, the group settled into a comfortable silence, each lost in their thoughts about the new year ahead. The warmth of friendship wrapped around them like a cozy blanket, and the excitement of Beomgyu and Yeonjun’s budding romance added a special glow to the evening.
“So, what’s our first adventure for the new year?” Taehyun asked, breaking the quietness. His eyes sparkled with enthusiasm, and the others turned to him, eager to brainstorm ideas.
“Let’s plan to go Somewhere we can all relax and have fun” Kai suggested, his face lighting up at the thought. “Or we could have a game night! Just the five of us” Beomgyu chimed in, still holding Yeonjun’s hand, feeling a sense of contentment wash over him.
“Game night sounds perfect!” Yeonjun agreed, his heart swelling with happiness at being included in their plans. “We can make snacks and just enjoy each other’s company.” Soobin nodded, his earlier playful annoyance forgotten. “I’m in! But just so you know, I’m going to win at every game!”
With laughter and playful banter, they began to discuss their plans, the excitement of the future bubbling within them. As the night deepened, they shared stories, dreams, and aspirations, each moment weaving their friendship tighter.
Eventually, they decided it was time to head back home, but not before taking a group photo under the fading fireworks. They huddled together, arms around each other, smiles wide and genuine.
“Cheers to a new year filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable memories!” Beomgyu proclaimed, raising an imaginary glass. The others echoed his sentiment, their hearts full of hope.
As they made their way back, the stars twinkled brightly above them, casting a gentle glow on the world around. Inside the car, the atmosphere was filled with warmth and laughter as their friends chatted excitedly about the night’s events. Beomgyu, however, was lost in his own thoughts, his heart fluttering with happiness.
He glanced at Yeonjun, who was sitting beside him, his eyes sparkling with joy. Unable to resist the urge, Beomgyu reached over and intertwined his fingers with Yeonjun's, holding his hand tightly. The simple contact sent a rush of warmth through him, a reminder of the bond they had just begun to explore.
As the car rolled down the quiet streets, Beomgyu leaned closer, his voice barely above a whisper. “I love you,” he said softly, pulling Yeonjun’s hand to his lips. With a tender smile, he pressed a gentle kiss to the back of Yeonjun’s hand, his heart swelling with affection.
Yeonjun turned to him, his face lighting up with a radiant smile. The warmth in his chest blossomed as he whispered back, “I love you too.” The sincerity in his voice made Beomgyu’s heart race even faster.
For a moment, the noise of their friends faded away, leaving just the two of them in their own little world. Beomgyu gazed into Yeonjun’s eyes, feeling a deep connection that transcended their previous rivalry. This was more than just a new chapter; it was the beginning of a beautiful love story.
As the car continued its journey, they exchanged shy smiles and soft touches, each glance filled with unspoken promises and dreams for the future. The bond they were forging felt strong and true, and they both knew that no matter what challenges lay ahead, they would face them together.
The night may have been winding down, but for Beomgyu and Yeonjun, it was just the start of something extraordinary. With their hands still intertwined and Beomgyu’s kiss lingering on Yeonjun’s skin, they both looked forward to the adventures that awaited them, hearts full of hope and love.
