warm in the washroom

Summary:

Heat.

Hands, strong, on her hips. A mouth crashing into hers, rough, impatient, hungry. The taste of vodka and mint gum hit her all at once. Melissa’s back was pressed to the grimy bathroom stall door, her partner's body pressed onto hers.

She blinked, and her vision steadied just long enough to see her.

Shauna Shipman.

Work Text:

Melissa hadn’t meant to drink that much.

She was only visiting Wiskayok for the weekend, back from New York where college had been slowly eating her alive.

Finals. Roommates. Sleepless nights and too many damn energy drinks.

Melissa had been running on caffeine, pressure, and sheer survival mode for weeks. It felt like a fight for her life, in the fucking wilderness.

So when Gen and Mari insisted on a girls’ trip, she didn’t just say yes, she needed it. Needed to exhale. To be home, even just for a night. Needed to forget.

(And if, maybe, Melissa also wanted to blow off steam with a stranger, some hot, chaos in a bar bathroom, well… she was human. And stressed. And lonely. Who could blame her?)

The bar they picked wasn’t fancy. It was one of those, music loud enough to rattle your ribs, and lights too bright to be flattering, type of bars. It was crammed with bodies, sweaty, loud, laughing bodies, and the air was thick with perfume, spilled beer, and alcohol fed energy. Everyone was pressed together like puzzle pieces that didn’t quite fit, needless to say, Melissa was loving it.

Melissa had been leaning against the bar when it all started to spin into motion. She was ordering a round, margaritas for Mari, whiskey for Gen, tequila for herself, when someone said something funny. The bartender? Maybe Gen? Her memory was hazy, especially with all the shots she’d taken so far. One more shot, then another. The burn hit her throat like a warning shot, but it felt more comforting than painful.

Then more people showed up, familiar faces from highscool, Melissa recognized them instantly.

Lottie. Jackie. Tai. And, was that Shauna?

They drifted into the group like they belonged there, like they were orbiting moons of glowing planets. Laughing. Dancing. Drinking.

Melissa didn’t think any of them even looked her way. If they did, it was fleeting, Mari had their full attention anyway. But Melissa didn’t care. The music was loud, the drinks were strong, and honestly? They’d never noticed her back in high school either.

Time seemed to pass slowly, but Melissa wasn’t sure how late it had become, she lost track a while ago. Mari was on the dance floor, hair flying, hips swaying like she’d been built for dancing. Gen was laughing with someone by the jukebox, their heads close, like secrets were being traded.

More drinks. Someone handed her a cherry-red shot. She downed it without asking what was in it. Someone grabbed her hand, spun her in a half-dance, half-dare. She laughed so hard she choked on her drink. Then she was stumbling toward the bathroom, hand tight around the dancing someone, a flannel covered someone.

That part’s a blur.

But then.

Shauna’s eyes were dark and wide, her breath ragged, her mouth dragging across Melissa’s like she was starved. Shauna’s tongue pushed into her mouth, deep and fast, not even pretending to play it cool.

Jesus, it felt like Shauna was trying to crawl inside her.

(Not that Melissa minded, she always did have a bit of a crush on her anyways.)

Melissa moaned, whiny and involuntary, her fingers tightening where they’d found purchase, Shauna’s hair, her shoulders, her shirt. Melissa didn’t even know. Her body was responding before her brain caught up. The side effect of making out with Shauna, probably.

Shauna finally pulled back, just enough for their mouths to part. Melissa gasped, sucking in humid bar air like it was oxygen and salvation all at once. Shauna’s breath was hot against her face and they stared at each other for a beat too long.

Melissa was dazed. Her head swam, and not just with alcohol, but with heat and confusion and the insanity of it.

Shauna Shipman was kissing her.

Her arms were still locked around Shauna’s neck, and Shauna hadn’t let go either. Her hands were on Melissa’s waist, gripping tight, and now her mouth had moved to her neck, kissing down, sucking gently.

The air left Melissa’s lungs.

It was too much. She was burning. She was spinning. She was—

Melissa gently pushed Shauna back, trying to find the floor beneath her feet, and the ceiling above her head.

“Wait, wait, hold on.” Melissa stuttered.

Shauna paused, her brow knitting in concern. Her lips were swollen, her hair slightly mussed. She looked good like this, disheveled, breathless, and Melissa felt pride at the knowledge that she did that.

“Is everything okay?” Shauna asked, voice low, like she wasn’t sure if she’d done something wrong.

Melissa looked up at her. Brown doe eyes. Full lips. And suddenly her brain went static.

“Yes! I mean, uh, yes,” she stammered, sucking in another breath. “What I mean is, yes. This is amazing. You’re amazing.”

Shauna’s lips curved into a lazy, knowing smirk. “You sure?” she asked, teasing now. “You were pretty into it.”

“I am!” Melissa rushed out, then winced at her own enthusiasm. “I’m just confused. A little. Like, how did we even get here?”

Shauna tilted her head. “You don’t remember?”

Melissa blinked, still panting, still drunk. Still pressed against a bathroom door with the hottest girl in town.

Shauna laughed softly, brushing her thumb across Melissa’s cheek. “You grabbed me by the shirt and pulled me in. Told me to kiss you. And then you did it first.”

Melissa went blank.

Oh.

Note to self: drunk Melissa is bold. Reckless. And, apparently, a whole damn force of nature.

She stared up at Shauna, trying to piece together the last hour? Two hours? The timeline had dissolved into a clock that orbited Shauna, Shauna and Shauna. All that mattered was Shauna. Right here. Right now.

“Oh,” Melissa repeated, intelligently. Shauna’s thumb was still on her cheek, warm and grounding.

Shauna’s smirk widened. Melissa racked her brain to figure out what Shauna was smiling about, then realised that she was leaning completely into Shauna's touch. Unintentional, yes, but very blatant. Melissa was essentially a cat in the hands of a loving owner.

“Are you tired?” Shauna asked, sultry but concerned.

“No!” Melissa blurted out, then immediately regretted the volume. Someone banged on the bathroom door.

“Occupied!” she yelled, mortified.

Shauna chuckled, the sound vibrating against Melissa’s chest. “You’re cute when you’re flustered.”

Flustered? Melissa was a goddamn inferno. Every nerve ending was screaming.

“So,” Shauna started, her voice dropping again, low and dangerous. “Now that we’ve established you wanted this… where do we go from here?”

Melissa’s brain short-circuited. Options swam before her eyes, run screaming, apologize profusely, pretend this never happened. Or,

She lifted a hand, letting it drift up Shauna’s neck, tangling in the soft strands of her hair. Shauna’s breath hitched.

“I think,” Melissa whispered, her voice husky, “we pick up where we left off.”

And then Melissa kissed her.

The raw, urgent, collision of needs and desires reignited with her kiss. Melissa’s tongue plunged into Shauna’s mouth, demanding a response. And a response she was given.

Shauna met her head-on. Her hands, which had been hesitant on Melissa’s waist, now gripped her hips, pulling her flush against Shauna’s body. Melissa could feel the hard line of Shauna’s muscles, the heat radiating off her skin, and it was intoxicating.

The kiss deepened, tongues tangling, teeth scraping. Melissa moaned again, a needy, desperate sound that echoed in the cramped space. Her hands moved from Shauna’s hair to her shoulders, digging into the soft fabric of her flannel shirt. She wanted skin. Needed it.

Without breaking the kiss, Melissa started fumbling with the buttons of Shauna’s shirt. Her fingers were clumsy, fueled by alcohol and lust, but she managed to pop a few open, revealing a glimpse of collarbone and the dark shadow of Shauna’s bra strap.

Shauna pulled back just enough to catch her breath, her eyes dark and glazed. “Careful, Mel,” she breathed, her voice raspy. “You’re going to get us in trouble.”

Melissa didn’t give a damn.

She pushed Shauna back against the stall door, harder this time, and the flimsy metal groaned in protest. “Then let’s be quick,” she murmured, and went back to kissing her.

Her hands were under Shauna’s shirt now, sliding against the smooth skin of her back. Shauna shuddered, her grip tightening on Melissa’s hips. Melissa’s own shirt was starting to feel unbearable, tight and restrictive. She wanted it gone.

“Help me,” she mumbled against Shauna’s lips, tugging at the hem.

Shauna didn’t hesitate. Her hands flew to Melissa’s shirt, pulling it up and over her head in one swift motion. Melissa’s bra offered little resistance, the flimsy lace barely containing her.

Shauna’s eyes widened as she took in the sight, her breath hitching in her throat. “Jesus, Melissa,” she whispered, reverently. “You’re gorgeous.”

Melissa flushed, but the heat was more desire than embarrassment. She wanted Shauna to want her. Needed it.

Shauna lowered her head, her mouth trailing kisses down Melissa’s neck, her teeth nipping at her skin. Melissa arched her back, moaning softly. Shauna’s hands cupped her breasts, her thumbs teasing her nipples.

A sharp, insistent pounding on the bathroom door shattered the moment.

“Hey! You two! Get out! Some of us need to pee!”

Melissa and Shauna froze, panting, half-naked, pressed together in a grimy bar bathroom. The reality of their situation crashed down on them like a bucket of ice water.

They stared at each other, a mixture of embarrassment, frustration, and desire.

Shauna grinned, a slow, knowing smile. “Well, Mel,” she said, her voice husky. “Looks like we’ve been evicted.”

Melissa couldn’t help but laugh, the sound shaky but genuine. “Yeah,” she said, “looks like we have.”
