Chapter Text
On his first day at his new university, Hinata was taking a tour along with other new students. Hinata was surprised at how big the place was, but if he wanted to study, it had to be in a big place like this, he thought. The guide was a nice guy, always smiling, telling jokes here and there, and just making the experience of getting to know their new habitat a good one. The group's guide was showing them the feeders when he walked by. His animal ears perked up, round and small, alert, and his gaze sharpened, searching the crowd for something, Hinata didn't know what until he saw it.
A fox, or rather, a fox hybrid in half-transformation, walked confidently toward the group. It was tall, taller than the guide, who was already tall by Hinata's standards, and it wagged its fluffy tail from side to side, high up where it could be seen. The guide raised an eyebrow and bared his teeth, he seemed to be making a great effort not to go jumping at the fox, who came up to his side and ruffled his head.
“Are you trying to eat one of these vermin?” the fox asked graciously, the guide let out a threatening sound, Hinata had heard it many times before, in the field. He thought maybe his guide was a weasel or something.
“I'm showing them around” he technically barked at the other, removing the fox's hand from his head, "If all you can think about is eating, why don't you go with the chef? I'm sure you guys like easy prey better, or haven't you had enough of losing to me?"
The fox snarled, making his claws appear, but before he could even think of throwing a punch at the guide, the guide kicked his foot, grabbed and twisted his arm, and set him on the ground, held tightly in a headlock.
“I'd appreciate it if you didn't scare the first years, I still have a lot of places left to show them” the guide muttered against the fox's ear, releasing him and standing up again, he smiled at the group as if nothing had happened. “Well guys, as I was telling you, here you can get food for herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores, the students of the cooking career sometimes lend themselves to cook us their specialties...” and continued with the tour, but not before stepping on the fox and continuing with the tour.
Hinata blinked in confusion, but then remembered what one of the assistants told him before sending him off with his tour guide, Komori Motoya.
"If you see Komori get alert, there's probably a fox nearby. Don't worry, Komori knows how to deal with them, but if it escalates to a fight, don't try to help. I'm saying this for your safety, not his."
In a hybrid society, it's normal for some of the territorial ones to butt heads with each other. Whether to get more prey, mark territory, or secure their position in the social hierarchy. However, it was apparently common knowledge that Komori and two foxes Hinata didn't know, can't stand each other.
No one is sure of the reason, it is only known that, from the first moment they saw each other, the three could not help but clash against each other. It was an ugly fight, one of those where blood comes out with claws, there are snarls with teeth bared, and it is practically impossible to peel them off without risking injury.
