Work Text:

Lightning cracked the crying sky in half as a lone man stands alone, surrounded by two metal mannequins beside two coffins. The room was dark with the only light provided came from lit candles, a summoning circle drawn on the floor, taking up almost the whole room.

"I have to do this; I have to do this." A pitiful looking man quietly muttered continuously as he hastily walked around the room. His once pristine and well-cared for clothes suitable for the nobility that he is now disheveled.

The man's once handsome face that sent women swooning was now gaunt and pale with exhaustion and sorrow. The prominent eye-bags that bruised his face was a dark contrast to his sickly pale skin. The man's once well-maintained hair now a black shaggy, matted knot, long and obviously not brushed in days.

The pitiful man looked over to his work once he stopped by a setup of metal and rusted machinery, by a button, sorrow forever etched into his features, but a tiny tinge of hope and determination flickered in his icy blue eyes.

"For my Sofia and Violet." He whispered, before pushing the button.

The room crackled with light.

Allen Warr was a good man with a gifted mind. Born into the beloved Warr Dukedom household, Allen had grown up with high expectations. Being the first-born son and the heir, he knew from a young age that he must do his best at all times, lest he let everyone down. That's the lesson he learnt when his father left the family and more importantly he, his sister and his mother when he was 6 years of age.

Allen cared less than he'd liked but he was unable to do anything. He was unable to stop his father from leaving. He was unable to stop his mother from surrendering to death's will. He was unable to stop his sister's fate of being married to a man 3 times her age. Allen knew that he won't be able to stop his fate of most likely getting married to a women he doesn't love as well, so why bother trying to change his fate anymore.

Allen looked on to the party and dancing nobles with bored eyes and a goblet of wine in his hand, away from the mingling people and in the solace of the shadows alone. Just how he liked it.

"Good evening." A sweet, feminine voice spoke from beside him, making Allen almost jump in surprise.

Turning towards the angelic voice, Allen's breath caught in his throat at what he saw.

Her pale skins sun-kissed with freckles, with beautiful forest green eyes that reminded Allen of the forest surrounding his families estate, and long fiery red hair that was pulled up into a complicated looking braid.

All Allen could wonder was 'Who was this beautiful angel and where did she come from?'

Clearing his throat, Allen answered the beautiful woman.

"Good evening Miss-?"

"Oh apologies, I didn't properly introduce myself, Sir, I'm Violet Gaunt." The woman, Violet introduced introduced herself, her voice sweet and carefree as she gracefully curtsied before him, looking up and saying. "And you are, sir?"

"Allen Warr, Miss Gaunt, I'm pleased to meet you." Allen answered back, holding out a hand for her.

"Heir of the Warr Dukedom, I presume?" Violet said with her sweet, angelic voice, her dainty gloved hand slipping into his and smiling sweetly.

the smile and question of his identity made his heart skip a beat and soon, Allen found himself smiling nodding as he offers Violet Gaunt too a dance.

Electricity sparks like lightning as it fills the room, dancing as it bounces off the walls, attracting towards the lighting rod connected to corpses of lost loved ones.

Allen watched it all with insanity and desperation in his eyes, getting too close as a stray bolt of lightning struck him. This causing him to stumble with a pained shock, pushing the button again and stopping the experiment.

The Lightning stopped immediately and at the same time, so did Allen's resolve, eyes going dull with defeat.

All he wanted was his wife and daughter back, to not lose another person again. Whether it be from death's cruel grasp or from fate itself. Allen didn't even know but he felt like he doing was doing the right thing.

Until now.

Now all Allen felt a sick feeling he couldn't describe. He felt sick with himself that he failed yet another person, that he failed to bring them back. However, Allen also felt sick in trying.

'Maybe death is a mercy.' Allen thought as his life flashed before his eyes and he felt himself slip into purgatory.

Who knows, maybe he finally be reunited with his sweet, tragic mother. Maybe he'll be reunited with his beautiful care-free wife Violet and his sweet, smart daughter Sofia.

Allen was at peace with those thoughts, that it until he saw a marionette's hand twitch.
